    Rip to the legend John Madden. Showed his humility during the analysis of this drive by admitting that although he as a coach would've played for OT, the Pats made the right call. The goosebumps line is legendary.

      Some people complain about what he said. They're idiots. Most people wouldn't know how special that drive was if it wasn't for Madden using common wisdom for the time. And then being in awe of what the Patriots did. Rest In Peace indeed. What a career! What a life!

    This Superbowl win changed everything for Boston, in terms of sports. Until Superbowl XXXVI, the Patriots were the LEAST popular of Boston's sports teams and they were rumored to be on the move as recently as the mid 1990s. In addition, all four of Boston's teams failed to make the playoffs in 2000 and there was little hint that the Red Sox would win the World Series just two years later. What this Superbowl did was give hope to the city of Boston and to the region of New England. If the Patriots of all teams could win a championship, then surely the Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins could.

      James Trout Yup! I was 14 and a huge Sox fan, liked the Pats but didn't follow them religiously. They captured my attention that year, boy. I remember the day after the Superbowl I realized what had happened and I shed a few tears. Even at my young age I had experienced a lifetime of disappointment with the Sox and watched the Patriots lose to GB when I was 10. I didn't think I'd ever see a championship in Boston.

      We have to keep in mind that Pat Summerall was one of those play-by-play broadcasters that believed that, on a TV broadcast, pictures told the story much more than commentators ever could. Just look at his calls on key plays in the Steelers wins in Super Bowls X and XIV in the 1970s. On the play that ended up giving the Steelers the lead for good in Super Bowl XIV, Summerall spoke a total of seven words ("deep for Stallworth" when the pass was thrown and "touchdown for the Steelers" when Stallworth caught it) and let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Quite a few broadcasters of Summerall's era were like that.
      Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola also believed that on television broadcasts, the pictures told most of the story, so much that Garagiola did not utter one word on the final pitches of both the 1980 and 1982 World Series, but before those pitches were thrown that the crowd would tell the audiences what happened, and in the final out of Nolan Ryan's fifth no-hitter, Garagiola said four words, which were "this may be it", and let the video and the crowd tell the rest of the story.

      I disagree. This drive was good but Joe took his team down 92 yards and a TD for the greatest drive in Superbowl history against the Bengals Joe was so cool that to calm his teammates down on that final drive he pointed to the crowd and said "Hey isn't that John Candy"? Joe was badass and the best of all time.

    • @KHayes666
      @KHayes666 7 років тому +16

      Montana the best of all time? He only played in 4 superbowls, Brady's been to 6 and may play in a 7th. Montana doesn't have the stats that Brady does. Montana also had a losing season, Brady's never had a losing season. Montana had the benefit of Jerry Rice for most of his career and didn't have to deal with free agency. Brady's receivers in 01 were David Patten and Troy Brown. In 04 it was David Givens and Deion Branch. In 2007 it was Randy Moss and Wes Welker. In 2011 it was Welker, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. In 2014 it was Julian Edelman, Gronk and Danny Amendola. This year its Edelman, Malcolm Mitchell and Martellus Bennett. Brady's teamates have changed and he keeps on winning. You can't even say its the defense or the coach because Montana had a great defense in SF and Bill Walsh/George Siefert. The only reason Brady didn't engineer a game winning touchdown in Superbowl 36 or 38 was because they only needed a field goal. You also forgot on that 92 yard drive Montana had a few minutes at his disposal.
      Montana was damn good, but Brady's simply better. Brady has the rings, Superbowl MVP's, stats and wins to match Montana and more.

With that being said, I look at how QB's today do against similar situations and most would crumble as soon as the situation presented itself. He shouldn't even have to wait to be in the HOF at this point. The second he retires. HOF. And he's still going....
