Fun fact, the game was delayed so that this song could be made. Kono-san said he wanted “one final song with enough emotion to make you cry” and Daredevil, was that song.
From what I remembered it wasn't that it was delayed to make this song but to make the soundtrack more dynamic. The most prevalent example was in this music piece for the drop to happen right when the arsenal bird's shield goes down.
Not just the story of the lore, but of the franchise itself. From the fall into Assault Horizon, the failure of Joint Assault, to the last ditch cash grab of Infinity which led many to believe the entire franchise would end with it, to the redemption and wild success of 7.
This piece is exactly as it was called: 1. It was a last minute addition because Kono wanted something more. 2. They made it so, not only does the climax match the Arsenal Bird's shields going down, but also to the match the dialogue with it. 3. This was used on one of the ballsiest moments in the series, specially given how many drones are behind you shooting you down and how massive the Arsenal on the Bird is. Truly this piece is a Daredevil.
The track is named Daredevil because it refers to the operation's name, Operation Daredevil. Similar to Dragon Breath from Stonehenge Defensive, Operation Dragon Breath, or Werewolf or Dual Wielder. Also, 444 likes, solitary for you.
Finally Ace Combat gets the musical recognition it deserves! While I would have loved to see you review "Zero" instead, I am still happy to see the AC video from you. Kobayashi is such an amazing composer, I ADORE how he uses choir and voices in his music.

I think it's real important to know this at 7:40. I need to find it again but there was another analysis of Ace Combat music and how it relates to the storytelling of Ace Combat. For context, in the game one of the side characters is trying to smash a piece of equipment to bring down the "final" boss' shield, and your wingman is, in cadence with her trying to break the sensors, is shouting at the enemy. The drop is when the equipment finally breaks, and the shield on the boss falls with the rising choir being your signal as the player to go ham and shoot down the boss. If you're looking for more examples of this, look into the DLC music for AC7 as well. "Awakening," "Alicorn," and "The Hero of Comberth Harbor" in sequence tell a complete story in the final mission of the DLC.
I took this literally the first time I finished the game. Skip to minute 9:30 and listen for about 30 seconds. This is how it feels in game. (Sorry for the bad audio, it was my first time doing that mission, i had no idea, othereise I would have lowered the SFX volumes) ua-cam.com/video/ku-shKVF_Rc/v-deo.html

shocking but true. Every ace combat game is made this way. I can't put it in words but its more than just a game. In many ways, it is art. That composer throws his soul into it and honestly, ought be up there with Mozart and Beethoven.
Daredevil is probably my favorite track from Ace Combat 7, hands down. Just builds up epically after the saturation attack against the Arsenal Bird failed, everyone is desperate to stay alive long enough to try again as the Arsenal Bird begins wiping out the surface fleet and its drones start picking planes out of the sky, it's shielding preventing any damage from being done. Then it's shield finally drops and the one-woman wail kicks in with everyone declaring that only Trigger stands a chance at bringing the Arsenal Bird down and they have to keep the drones off of him while Trigger goes toe to toe with the Arsenal Bird.
Yeah kinda. The first part is quite sad. This is the end, there is no way to win Then the shield is broken and we reach the climax, a long climax! The arsenal bird is finally vulnerable! There is a chance! We can and we must win! Then when you beat the arsenal bird, everything calms down. Whenever I break down orchestral music, I could end up talking for hours about every single detail. I'm trying to keep things simple here though because these videos are made for casual music listeners in mind. However, if you're a composer and want to learn more about Orchestration in detail, I have an entire UA-cam channel where I've been teaching orchestration for several years: ua-cam.com/users/alexmoukala
The choir was humming the ace combat theme motif by the way. It's meant to bring you back home, it's welcoming you back to ace combat, and then it drops you in to the new generation with the boom and string ostinato.
@@KlausVolfield holy shit. For people who grew up playing the series, it must've been one of the biggest goosebumps of their lives. Sadly AC is not my type of game so I am in the dark there as I never played it, but boy do I love the music.
@@AlexMoukalaMusic Then i would like to recommend if you have time to check the Rebirth BGM from Ace Combat Assault Horizon, it does the similar playful motif Ace combat theme thing in a very arabian/black hawk down type feel. And the choir at 8:10 that blew you away was also a slight "motif" if you can call it that to the Ghosts of Razgriz and their legacy in the other ace combats , and then at 8:40 in your video, it lets you go. You're officially in the new ace combat. From then on, all of the new music is "new", until you get to old series callbacks. It was good, really good man.
The algorithm just kinda sent me here, But I gotta say watching this guy nerd out over how cool the music is really brightened my morning. You definitely got a sub from me.
Loved the analysis your channel really exposes and dissects a lot of music that I enjoy so it's awesome to see what comprises all of these great tracks! I'd love more deep dives on Ace Combat 7's OST-- it has no right being as amazing as it is. By the way, the only time I was this early, Three Strikes was still in flight training.
You should have it with some footage from Mission 19: Lighthouse, that "dehdehdehdehdehdeh" would show up at a very decisive moment in the game. Generally speaking, up the feel to the eleven.
I really wanna see him react to Mass Effect 3 Leaving Earth. That song honestly perfectly encapsulates that game and the main enemy and its beautiful. It manages to give the since of terror and loss at the same time. Honestly a masterpiece.
If anyone haven't, you should definitely watch "How Rhythm Drives The Music Of Ace Combat" by 8-bit Music Theory . It's always fascinating to watch somebody nerd the hell of something they love.
Sir? SIR? Thank you for this! I have never even heard of this franchise or even this song previously and now, I just can't get enough of it! Thank you so much for giving your thoughts on this track!❤
I cannot recommend Anchorhead Raid and Mimic from the Ace Combat 7 DLCs enough. Anchorhead Raid has just an incredible fusion of orchestral elements and electronic beats. Mimic on the the other hand has a unique layered style to it where its actually two songs placed on top of each other and one half drops away after a specific enemy is shot down.
Its criminal how video games have some of the most amazing pieces of art (music, writing, artstyle, etc.) in all of media but their merits are only celebrated within the industry itself.
One thing that makes Daredevil _even better_ is that it's the sixth(of seven) incarnation of Trigger's theme... The same way Daredevil builds on it's motifs, Daredevil itself is built on the main theme that was set up all the way back in the first mission, and it creates a consistent musical narrative throughout the game. Charge Assault represents Trigger's first mission, his "first flight" if you will. Dual Wielder represents Trigger gaining experience in his early missions. Faceless Soldier represents Trigger taking charge and leading the formation. Siren's Song represents Trigger's first time in command of a squadron. Battle for Farbanti is in many ways this game's version of Liberation of Gracemeria, it represents Trigger's redemption and the completion of his arc. Daredevil is for the final battle. and Hush is for the last fight between aces. You don't even need to play the game to hear the progression and build-up between these tracks.
There are so many tracks from Ace Combat that deserve this treatment. Off the top of my head, I'd pick Zero, Megalith, Archange, Hrimfaxi, Unsung War, and the Awakening/Alicorn/Hero of Comberth Harbor trio, but I'm sure there are many more. I'd pick Zero if you like Spanish guitar and Hero of Comberth Harbor if you like sinister choir.
This is one of my favourite tracks from any game in the last 5 years. So glad that you decided to do a break down of this one! Love your channel and content, keep it coming!
Ace Combat Zero ost “Zero” and Ace Combat 4 ost “Agnus Dei”. Definitely a must listen for us, AC fan. And one of the most beautiful ost from Ace Combat 5, “Journey Home” and “Into the dusk”. Also, if you feelin a lil funky, “Rage & Scream” from AC7 dlc
I absofuckinlutely love your breakdown and full midi showcasing. It adds so much value to your reviews than a ton of the other producer reviews that are on youtube. Your classical and technical proficiency is absoutely shining.
I was thinking of recommending you react to/dissect some Ace Combat music sometime, as it's a series I only ever tried out and fell in love with BECAUSE of the music, so this is a really pleasant surprise! Looking at the rest of Ace Combat 7's catalog, I think it'd be really cool if you could do a video covering songs with multiple variants, like Magic Spear I/II, Enchanter I/II, Last Hope I/II, and Mimic (which has a whopping three versions). It's really fun listening to how the different versions of those songs build and play off of one another, and while Keiki Kobayashi's great, those songs do a fantastic job of showing off the musical chops of two of Ace Combat 7's other composers: Ryo Watanabe and Mitsuhiro Kitadani. Either way, really glad to see you helping give Ace Combat more of the recognition it deserves! Keep up the good work!
First you capture my interest with XIV and now you get my attention with AC? MY MAN YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE! I heartily recommend taking a look at the DLC track "Enchanter 1", it's my favourite in the game bar none. From other Ace Combats, I'm going to throw a curveball and suggest Blue Skies Remix from Ace Combat Infinity. They managed to turn the chill, relaxing theme of Ace Combat 04 into an epic orchestral *explosion.*
Enchanter I is hella good yeah, I also wanna see a breakdown of Mimic because that song is chaotic and without taking the tracks apart from the files it's pandemonium lol
Hope you do an breakdown analysis on the AC7's DLC Alicorn Phase I,II,III soundtrack, I believe the music for that mission rival's Daredevil and can be also in the Top 10 tracks of Ace Combat's OST, The build-up to finding the mega-submarine under the sea, fighting off the defenses from sea and air from the Alicorn, hearing Torre's monologue, as well as dodging the railgun fire, and when you think it's over, the water starts blasting Latin at you as you have a timer to stop a massive railgun from firing again, Kobayashi's work on this game is something truly amazing and masterclass.
It's not often that I stop and watch people reacting to the music and things they "haven't heard before," but I love the fact that you broke it down and actually analyzed it instead of just mainly reacting. Subscribed.
You have no idea how happy I am to see you break this song down, I've played the mission it's from so many times just to hear it. Especially because of how the devs utilized it story-wise. Awesome video!
I’ve loved the Ace Combat series since the release of Joint Assault, and I must say it feels strange to hear a UA-camr I like talk about it. Daredevil was an absolutely great track, but since AC6 is my favourite game, I have to say that “Through The Heart Of A Nation” is my absolute favourite. Strigon Team is also my favourite enemy squadron of the series.
What more awesome is, when everything just fit together perfectly; the ost, the sky you're viewing, the mission "moment"... when you experiencing all of those for the 1st time, i legit got shivers down my spine for 1 hour straight
I’ve been watching your final fantasy content for over a year now, how did I miss the release of your analysis of a song from the franchise that literally shaped my childhood
Wouldl ike to recommend some tracks from Granblue Fantasy (or Versus), since god DAMN does it have some good stuff. Nobuo Uematsu worked on it for a while, and hes referred to Tsutomu Narita, the main composer, as essentially his successor. Some tracks I'd recommend are Platinum Sky, Wings of Terror (the Versus version of the track is the best rendition imo), Zero (bit long but still super good), In This Narrow, Small World, or the classic, Paradise Lost
"It feels like every sin I've ever committed in my life is being absolved" Considering "sin" and "punishment" is a major theme in Trigger's journey (what with his title 'Three Strikes' referencing him accidentally killing President Harling), that is scarily accurate, and I'm amazed you got that impression just from the music.
You should check Ace Combat Zero tracks Glatisant and Merlon, they're pretty aesthetic and a nice mix of electronic and orquestral music put together. Hell, every AC soundtrack is aesthetic in some way. For instance: Ice Cage and First Flight (AC5), Blockade and Emancipation (AC4).
I can't say in words how much I love Daredevil... and in game when you're actually in the zone, flying hard, dog fighting for all you're worth. It's just too much, and when the vocal solo hits... just damn.
I really want you to listen to "Hush" from AC7. End of the story duel for the end of the war soundtrack. By far one of if not my favorite track from AC7
Usually I don't like reaction channels but this was more like an analysis by someone who obviously knows the subject and also an homage to a soundtrack I love. Excellent video!
I'd like to offer a sincere thanks for making this video. After watching, I started listening to this track, as well as some other ace combat tracks and after a while I decided to just buy the game. I've since completed it and absolutely loved it. It's quickly become one of my favourite games. My sincere thanks to you for introducing me to this series.
Namco has a lot of really talented composers. If you ever take requests, I suggest looking into Lineage of Destiny from SoulCalibur VI. That's composed by Rio Hamamoto who's also done work on Ace Combat (like the Dogfight theme from AC: Assault Horizon).
There's no words to describe my happiness because of this video. If there wasn't AC in my childhood - there wouldn't be myself as me right now. And not by the last because of music. That means something.
I think the highest praise to this song is that even though I've been waiting for you to break down this track for as long as I've known you, every time you paused it to start talking about how it works and what you loved I could only scream internally at the heinous crimes you committed of pausing it at the best parts (also known as literally any part of the song).
Oh boy, into the Ace Combat pool you venture. Awesome, glad to have you here with us! Don't sleep on the Ace Combat 7 DLC music. 'Mimic Squadron (Rage & Scream)' is such an amazing and unique 2v2 dogfight theme, and the trio of themes Kobayashi created for the final DLC (Awakening, Alicorn, The Hero of Comberth Harbor) are an outstanding progression towards Maximum Grandiose.

@@mrandrossguy9871 I am making an analysis of what the music transmits. What osts are you refering to?
@@KlausVolfield Growing up on the series, that theme will forever bring up images of the sky. Dark blue...
Dude, you'll lose your shit listening to She Rules The Battlefield, a track from the Heaven's Feel pt.2 movie.
To all those who didn’t vote for him to make an Ace Combat video, see what you would’ve missed?
i reccomend alex 6month ago but lost to persona
How about the track MOBILE ARMOR from Gundam Unicorn? Or the Unicorn's theme itself. Gundam Unicorn has some absolutely wonderful tracks.
Omg yes
Hype and chills are a given since Hiroyuki "Hype-Man" Sawano did the Unicorn soundtrack 😆

Loved the analysis your channel really exposes and dissects a lot of music that I enjoy so it's awesome to see what comprises all of these great tracks! I'd love more deep dives on Ace Combat 7's OST-- it has no right being as amazing as it is.

You should look at the tracks “Sol Squadron” and “Archange” if you’re going to continue going over AC7 tracks

Sir?
Hearing such an insightful analysis of music gives me an ever greater appreciation for them! Thanks for such great videos!
Keiki Kobayashi is a god tier composer. That is all.
bandai namco composers are just on another level
There are so many tracks from Ace Combat that deserve this treatment. Off the top of my head, I'd pick Zero, Megalith, Archange, Hrimfaxi, Unsung War, and the Awakening/Alicorn/Hero of Comberth Harbor trio, but I'm sure there are many more.
I'd pick Zero if you like Spanish guitar and Hero of Comberth Harbor if you like sinister choir.
"OMG angry boats!" 🤣🤣🤣. But foreeal best track. AC4: last mission Megalith. Track: Rex Tremende. I will never forget that as long as I live. ❤
I stopped everything I was doing the moment I saw the thumbnail. I love this song so much. Always love hearing your thoughts 😁
Thank you so much Alex! This is awesome!!!
I’m so glad this popped into my recommended feed, jfc. I cried all over again.
It's been about 2 years since AC7 came out and I've lost track of how many times I've listened to Daredevil.
It STILL gives me chills.
Still waiting for some La-Hee analysis.
hahahaha! NOOO!

you should react to Unicorn by Sawano Hiroyuki from Gundam
Blue Skies (Infintiy Remix) is an epic piece.
Subscribed.
"That is some serious firepower. I for one was not expecting that." - Count witnessing the load of bull the Arsenal Bird was carrying
Every time I listen to this track, every time, hairs stand up all over my body, it's so intense. Wonderful analysis.
I’ve been watching your final fantasy content for over a year now, how did I miss the release of your analysis of a song from the franchise that literally shaped my childhood
Yooo, let him hear the holy trilogy of 'Awakening', 'Alicorn', and the game version of 'Hero of Comberth Harbour'.
Salutem Omnibus!
Having the Ace Combat Community like this is nice. We are thankful, and we welcome you to the Ace Combat World
Wouldl ike to recommend some tracks from Granblue Fantasy (or Versus), since god DAMN does it have some good stuff.

"It feels like every sin I've ever committed in my life is being absolved"
Considering "sin" and "punishment" is a major theme in Trigger's journey (what with his title 'Three Strikes' referencing him accidentally killing President Harling), that is scarily accurate, and I'm amazed you got that impression just from the music.
You should check Ace Combat Zero tracks Glatisant and Merlon, they're pretty aesthetic and a nice mix of electronic and orquestral music put together.
Hell, every AC soundtrack is aesthetic in some way.
For instance:
Ice Cage and First Flight (AC5), Blockade and Emancipation (AC4).
Oh my god, its finally here! I've been patiently waiting since I"ve subscribed, and finally we are here. Yes!
unsung War is one of the best musical themes ever made.
Usually I don't like reaction channels but this was more like an analysis by someone who obviously knows the subject and also an homage to a soundtrack I love. Excellent video!
Finally, my dude, you did Ace Combat.
this is the first video I watched here on your channel, and I'm impressed how you just like whatever you did at 3:00 damn
That's it. This made me want to play the game again. Gonna re-install it.
Awwww yeah! Our boy came through!

This made me buy the game. Wish me luck boys, it's my first ace combat game.
Its a joy to play. The dogfights and music. So good.
yes please! Zero and Unsung war. thank you for doing this. this series need more recognition!
