Many of those products you mention use polymers that stay behind on the surface, which do not have nearly as good of self-cleaning properties as the coating itself (or the maintenance products designed to go on top of them). Not a fan of rinseless washes...
That's interesting to hear. I have never heard of or observed polymers affecting hydrophobicity in any meaningful way. Plenty of people maintain ceramic coatings only using rinseless washes.
I’m considering applying MIYABI then ISM on my new Abyss Grey truck. It does have some vinyl highlights on the hood, would that cause a problem? Also when applying the MIYABI do you need to avoid the plastic trim that you can cover with the ISM? Thanks.

Of course I can imagine we’d want to act fast, would a spritz or two of Kamikaze overcoat on a plush microfiber towel be the way to go?

What’s a better looking product of the three options mentioned above? I would rather have a coating that looks good for 12-16 months over longevity.
You'll get just a little more durability with the Miyabi/ISM than you will ISM alone. On the Kamikaze site they say to use 2 coats on flat surfaces such as the hood or trunk. Is this after the 1-2 hour cure time? I didn't think ISM could bond to itself.
I know this works well on plastic. Is it also ok to use on rubber trim at the base of side windows or around the windshield or should I tape those off before applying.
Hi Todd, the issue I have with coating my car is that I don't have a garage, is ISM suitable for use outside ? (Obviously checking weather conditions). Or would I be better choosing something like Gyeon Syncro which states is ok for outdoor use ? Thanks
I have done 2 cars outside but not in direct sunlight as it will flash way too fast. I use 4 easy ups to give me the shade I need. A Garage would be ideal but I have the same problem you have. For me lots of dust in my area so I get tiny scratches from the dust collecting during the curing/wipe off process. I have installed ISM 1.0 and it was great, lasted 3 years as a daily driver with proper maintenance. I have also installed miyabi 2.0(2 coats)with ISM 3.0(1 coat) and that was the best combo for me. Gloss is amazing with both together but you will also get great results with just ISM 3.0. by itself.
Thanks for this video! On the Kamikaze website it says ISM 3.0 is layerable with ISM 3.0 again after 1~2 hours. Is that not true in your experience? Does ISM 3.0 not like to layer on itself just like the first two renditions of ISM? How does ISM 3.0 compare to the Kamikaze Miyabi Graphene Pro in Northern climates? Northern Canada with salt, ice, snow for 7 to 8 months of the year. I'm just wondering if the two component coatings like the miyabi graphene pro would do a lot better because of the catalyst, sort of like how 2k paints and clear coats are vastly superior to the 1k counter parts.
We haven't tried to layer 3.0 on itself since the others never liked it. As for the other coating, we haven't had the opportunity to do any testing on it as of yet.
Hi, super top video and explanation as well! what about top products for matte-satin paint? can I use the same? Even based on the fact that I do have both Matte paint and shiny cabon fiber. Ism3 plus cosmic or over coat? zipang? Enrei coat? thanks!
Thanks. Yes, you can use this over satin finishes. It won't make them "glossy", but it does add a richness to the finish. Just make sure you get it right with no high spots because you can't go back and polish it off like you can on glossy paint. You can then maintain it with either Overcoat or Cosmic Spritz.
Hi i did a miyabi sandwich today with zipang. i have ism 3.0 aswell i asked kamikaze about the sequence and they suggested i apply ism only on lower parts of my car as it has greater chemical resistance. can i apply ism on whole car?

Hi Todd, thanks for your informative video. Much appreciated. I really fancy giving this a product a go on my Ibis white S4 but first I have a question for you. On a white car how do you see where you've been? I want to be sure that Im not missing bits? Thanks Pete...
Pete...coating a white car is challenging for sure, and you have to have some good lighting to make the most of it. I find that looking at the surface from an extreme angle really helps to see where the coating is. On the hood for instance, get low to the surface and look across. You should be able to see a different kind of reflection from the wet surface in comparison to dry. After a panel or two, it should become easier once you get a feel for what you are looking for. Good luck!
So I have used 1.0 and 2.0 on my vehicles over Miyabi. Both are a bit thick, is 3.0 that thick in application? Is it a PITA like 2.0 when it comes to setting up and removal? Is the depth of gloss the same as the others?
As we talked about in the video, it's much easier on application, especially compared to 2.0. It's a thinner formula than 1.0 as well. Looks are very similar to what it has been known for.
Considering this product vs Gyeon coating. What if I’m in Arizona where it is a dry heat and no a/c in the garage (approx 95 deg). Can I apply this product? Will I have to remove it really quickly? Thanks in advance for your help!
Good morning, and great video. Can you do multiple layers? Or is one good enough. Going to be buying a new truck so I'm thinking of ISM 3.0 or Gyeon Syncro Evo.
When you say high humidity what is the percentage you base that on? I am in PA and anything 70% and above is considered high humidity. I like to apply my coatings in early morning to avoid the higher humidity levels in the afternoon like you talk about. I try to stay below 50% humidity when applying any coating. Kamikaze or Gyeon Pure, or MOHS.
Can ISM 3.0 be applied to Suntek PPF? The latest version comes with some form of ceramic coating on it pre applied at the factory. I’m very interested in applying ISM to my car, but the entire front half has said PPF on it.
If you have to do a large area in 2 separate passes, as you mention with a large hood, what is the best way to avoid high spots on the edge picking up where you left off as that edge has started drying? Also, can/should you use it on the glass engine hatch of an F430? ie, is it ok for glass and would the heat be a problem? One more question, would this be good to use on wheels? I have Ferrari 16m coated 5 spoke wheels. Thank you Todd, your videos are always helpful, informative and useful!
As long as you're doing the overlap section one immediately after the other, you shouldn't run into any issues with high spots. Do not use on glass, and you'd want their Stance 3.0 on wheels as it's designed to handle more heat and chemicals. Hope this helps!
Works great on white paint. Just wash with something like Gyeon Bathe, decontaminate with Gyeon Iron, and thoroughly rinse. When dry, wipe down with Gyeon Prep, then you're ready to apply the coating. All of those products (and videos) can be found at www.esotericcarcare.com
You say "SM doesn't like to layer on top of itself". What to do when the ISM eventually looses some effect? Do one have to polish it off before adding a new layer?
That only applies when it's freshly applied. Over time the coating will start to wear, and as long as it's still in good shape (no swirls, scuffs, etc), you can simply do a thorough wash with decon, and reapply ISM.
@@Esotericdetail I will def try on my next cars next month. How do you thing is gonna deal with UV rays and 90+ degrees days? I'm mobile and I don't if I should avoid sun exposure entirely or wipe it off quickly in small sections/panels.
I have used Over Coat on my Corvette that was coated with Miyabi and ISM. It look good, but I find that it lacks slickness. The microfiber towel seems to grab on the surface when I wipe off any dust on the car. Is there an alternative to Over Coat that gives some slickness and provides the protection you speak about in the video?
@@Esotericdetail so I apply it too the whole hood and then wipe right away or half the door and then wipe and then the other half? Same Ross for the door panels? Can this be applied too PPF?

On a white car how do you see where you've been? I want to be sure that Im not missing bits?
Thanks
Pete...
Good luck!
I do have a ventilated garage. Can i still apply a ceramic coating? I have not seen any condensation at morning, since probably December-January.
As long as you don't have condensation, then you should be good to go.
Will you guys have a video on the wet application on this coating? I saw in their video that is an option. Also, is a zipang 2.0 video coming soon?
Probably not on the wet application as I don't see it as necessary. New Zipang is in the works.
Hi, can you make a video for kamikaze Miyabi Graphene pro?? Is it possible to apply ISM on top of Miyabi graphene??
We do not have that product here in the USA.
Just apply and remove quickly, and try to do it early in the morning if possible.
Good morning, and great video. Can you do multiple layers? Or is one good enough. Going to be buying a new truck so I'm thinking of ISM 3.0 or Gyeon Syncro Evo.
Thank you. ISM doesn't like to layer on top of itself, but if you wanted to do multiple layers, put down Miyabi Coat first, and top it with ISM.
@@Esotericdetail Thank you very much Sir. Love your channel
Try not to over-think it in terms of percentages. If it feels really humid, then you know it's not the best time to coat.
Can ISM 3.0 be applied to Suntek PPF? The latest version comes with some form of ceramic coating on it pre applied at the factory. I’m very interested in applying ISM to my car, but the entire front half has said PPF on it.
It should, but you never fully know until you try it!
Can both products be applied over 3m or expel ppf.
Yes they can. We do it all of the time.
Tod would this be good on Jeep Wrangler fenders?
It would be perfect for them! That's one of the great things about ISM...equally fantastic on both paint and plastic.
Is it better to always use Kamikaze base then ISM or can you just do ISM product.
Miyabi / ISM is an upgrade level over ISM by itself, but ISM by itself is an incredibly good coating!
Hey Todd, Which coating brands do you use on your personal vehicle?
Sometimes Kamikaze, and sometimes Gyeon...
@@Esotericdetail What would determine you using one over another?
Do you recomment this on a white paint?I have a brand new bmw x7 and i don’t know how to prep befofe coating.TY
@@Esotericdetail No polish or clay bar?Thank you again sir
@@ggcyclonerc2708 Only if needed. NEVER clay without polishing, so if the surface is heavily contaminated, you'll need to clay and polish.
@@Esotericdetailwhat if you want to apply a different new coating? For example miyabi on old ism?
Better to apply one or two layers of MIYABI underneath ISM?
If you have time, then do 2. Just 1 layer underneath is still fantastic though.
Does ICM 3.0 work on vinyl wraps
Yes it does.
Can you apply to XPEL PPF ?
Yes, we do it all of the time!
How many cars does a bottle covers?
You should be able to get 2-3 applications out of one bottle.
@@Esotericdetail I will def try on my next cars next month. How do you thing is gonna deal with UV rays and 90+ degrees days? I'm mobile and I don't if I should avoid sun exposure entirely or wipe it off quickly in small sections/panels.
@@LLANTALOBOTOMIK You don't want to apply in direct sunlight, particularly on hot days.
This vs the new Gyeon Evo?
The new EVO line of coatings are fantastic, but this is going to be the premium choice.
@@Esotericdetail Awesome! Also, what is your go to coating removal towel?
I have used Over Coat on my Corvette that was coated with Miyabi and ISM. It look good, but I find that it lacks slickness. The microfiber towel seems to grab on the surface when I wipe off any dust on the car. Is there an alternative to Over Coat that gives some slickness and provides the protection you speak about in the video?
Give Polishangel Cosmic Spritz a try...my personal favorite. www.esotericcarcare.com/polishangel-cosmic-spritz/
Well, you can change that mf towel with wool duster.
Oh, you're a genuis. Understood.
439th like 😊 superb !
Todd I’m struggling to understand how do you know when it’s probably bonded and it time to remove?
How long do we let it sit before wiping off?
One panel at a time. Apply to panel, then remove...no waiting in between.
@@Esotericdetail so I apply it too the whole hood and then wipe right away or half the door and then wipe and then the other half? Same Ross for the door panels? Can this be applied too PPF?
