Hello Alex, please help me out here man. I bought a new controller, not even up to 2 weeks old and i'm having this similar issues. It just happened to be dead out of a sudden. I plug it on charge, it shows the yellow light, charges, then i press the PS still while on charge, it connects well, but as soon as i plug out the USB charger, it becomes dead. I press the PS button and nothing happens. It only works while connected to the USB, and not wireless.
My right toggle was drifting so u took it apart and cleaned. I put it back together it fixed the drift. And it works. But it doesn't light up and it doesn't seem to charge now
You saved my life man, was so confused on how to fix my controller charging isusse and you're the only one who told me to check the ps4 button, thank you and great job on organizing the whole video
You're a lifesaver! I was stuck for so long trying to figure out how to get my ps4 controller to talk to my ps4 again (it worked fine with my laptop when plugged in). All the guides I found online just said the same thing, 'press and hold the playstation button', with various useless suggestions like trying a different cord etc... Replaced the conductive film today and it's working again, actually turned my ps4 on while I was fixing it as I accidentally must have pressed the ps button xD
Iv got the same problem and I'd came to the same conclusion so it's nice to find somebody else with the same problem. I did get the blue light to flash once but that was it.
This was insanely helpful. I have the exact same issue and tried troubleshooting like you did. I was 90% sure the PS button was the issue. Took it apart, cleaned it and all that. I didn't go so far as to replace the film, but that's now my next step. Thanks.
Yo bro I don't know if you'll ever see this but you saved me $60😭🙏🏽I can't thank you enough man I was doing surgery on my controller for 2 hours and it worked..you Def gained a sub bro..
For me, the only solution that actually worked was deleting all bluetooth dualshock 4 devices that have been sinced through the bluetooth devices settings in playstation while using a secondary working dualshock 4 controller. I had to go to Bluetooth devices using a secondary working dualshock 4 device. Then, I deleted all the connected dualshock 4 controllers, excluding the one being used. After that I held the malfunctioning dualshock 4 controller's ps plus share button (without a USB connection) until it was in sinc mode. Once in sinc mode, I waited until the dualshock 4 controller shows on the bluetooth devices list. Once it was shown on the bluetooh devices list, I used my functioning dualshock 4 controller to enter that enlisted dualshock, and I pressed the options (select button) connected it from there (wirelessly) and voila it worked. So, the whole issue for me was a system syncing error issue rather than a controller reseting issue. This happened due to the fact that the PS4 controller was connected to a different ps4 system, and after switching back to the previous ps4 console. Reseting the ds4 didn't work. Only removing the sinced controller error and resinking it using a secondary controller worked for me. I hope Sony fixes this sincing error issue, especially for those who don't have a secondary ds4 controller. If this solution didn't work, this means that the battery needs replacement. Best of luck 👍
I would just like to say thanks for your problem solving skills! It saved me tons of time and money and I had the same issue and ordered the same part and now it works fine! £50 saved
Hi guys, my issue was very similar with only one difference, my ps4 would randomly turn on during the night which along with info from this video led me to believe there was an intermittent ps button problem. I followed the instructions up to the point of inspecting the connector film. I noticed some minor marking. I cleaned the film with a cotton tip and tested. This seems to have fixed my problem. I have reassembled My controller and the problem has been fixed. Thanks Alex.
Bro you are an absolute genius....I have been combing UA-cam since last week (posted on the 01/10/19). And the issue I have is the exact same one with this one on here. Unfortunately, I live in a crappy country (Nigeria) and I don't have a way of getting the conductive film ordered. You are doing some great detective stuff with these tech stuff....you are a gift to the world my good man....cheers. SUBBED!
i had the same issue, exactly the same, PS button issue, not responsive, DS4Windows confirmed that its the PS button, then i ordered a new conductive film, replaced the old one...annnd its works !!! BIG THANK YOU
This is very helpful! After replacing the left analog stick part, my ps button is intermittently being recognized to my ps4(When it is recognized, it works perfectly fine.). I'm going to re-inspect the conductive (also bluetooth wire line on the pcb) and clean them with pure alcohol. If issue still persist, will replace the conductive film.
THANKS BRO Replaced the film from a different controller to my broken controller which wouldnt turn on and it worked perfectly. Had the same problem, PS button wernt working, replaced film, boom, working. THANKS AGAIN
This video actually really helped me. My controller was flashing a BLUE light 6 TIMES. It also PULSED an ORANGE light when I plugged it in. I tried resetting the controller and thought that I did the pairing mode thing. My controller would flash the blue light whenever I pressed the PS button, but wouldn't connect to the console. I ended up using a second controller to go into the bluetooth settings and removing the broken controller from the list, and then holding the share and ps button until it blinked white. I then went into the controller settings and I saw a new controller to pair. And boom, finally my controller would connect, and it ended up being a SOFTWARE issue. I only say that last part because I swapped out about ever part imaginable (including the conductive film) and the controller would still not connect. Thank you.
I know how to fix it! (At least it worked for me) I unplugged my ps4 completely so it couldn’t turn on, and plugged it back in again. Once I turned the ps4 back on, I plugged in the usb cord and the controller and it worked for me.
Great troubleshooting video . Searched countless sites, videos for orange light of death and all of them told to reset or do the button reset tactic . Fail . Turns out the ps button and the conductive sheet were the culprit. Simply amazing. You have earned a like oh wonderful comrade 👍🏻
Had the same issue. My fix was making sure the blue film on the front of the controller was lined up with the contact for the circuit board on the back it was not lined up after I took it apart the first time. It being slightly off was my issue.
Mine does the same thing! It's been tormenting me to figure out what's wrong with it for over a year! I never would have suspected the PS button or the conductive film, controller was gently used and never got dirty. But now it makes sense because before mine was doing what you show in the video, I could get it connect only by rapidly pressing a bunch of buttons, but even then it was like half of the button presses wouldn't register when using it. So it makes sense the film part was going bad. Very weird issue considering it'll work with another device but not with the PS4 when this happens.
For me it was the exact problem which is mentioned in the video. For me i found the dirty place or burned maybe, cleaned it, pressed with screwdriver and it worked. So if nothing works, it could be the problem guys. Clean it or buy new one. Cheers
Yup that’s the problem. Dropped mine in the toilet, hard to explain but cleaned it got a new battery and the yellow light comes on then it does. Checked the conductive film and the connection is fried. Thanks !
So thanks for the massive help bro! This made my controller that was unable to connect to my ps4 usable now. I was this close to straight trashing it when I couldn't get it to work on the computer. But once I get my new graphics card, I can play with my computer set up on the controller that is no longer usable for the bluetooth connection ha
Do not take your PS4 controller apart!! Turn your PS4 on and connect the controller to the USB and press the PS button + Share button at the same time and it fixed my the issue for me. The ps4 has to be on for you to start the button process on the controller. I just fixed mine.
Well i hope this works and fix my dead controller which had the exact same issue from a year ago and i just told myself that it's dead, this video is light of hope now
i haven't yet tried the film fix but of all the videos i've researched your problems and errors seam to be exactly the same so i'll try to find the film too bad i'm in Ethiopia a country where you can't find things like that or even order online but i'll try my luck finding a broken controller i can switch the film with but thanks so much for the fight!!
I'm commenting this in August 2022. My controller was behaving in a similar way described here: Turn on the PS, controller was blinking yellow once and it wasn't working. Furthermore, pressing the PS button caused the controller to blink white several times which was the signal that the battery is nearly dead. After browsing multiple places, I found out the solution in my case which was TOTALLY UNRELATED... I downloaded DS4Windows, a piece of software which lets you test your controller on PC. This told me my controller was actually at 100% battery, fully charged. And all buttons were working, too... Then what I actually did was to boot in safe mode (long press the power button) and do "Restore Default Settings" - this will remove your PSN account logged in session (you have to login back and games are safe no worries) and reset your internet connection settings. Because that was my ultimate issue - the internet connection settings. The PS was trying to reconnect to my 5GHZ WIFI connection and was failing in a matter of moments causing my controller to become dead AGAIN. So there are two workarounds: If your router is dual band, use the 2.4GHZ connection instead (my approach). Use a LAN cable instead. I hope this helps... And thanks Sony for wasting 4h of my time troubleshooting after your crappy updates.
This man has literally saved a controller of mine that stopped working over a year ago. I literally had tried so many times and so many dead ends. Basically I ruined my other controller om accident making some repairs, so I had to use the motherboard and everything from this controller. Experiencing the same issues but determined to try a solution before paying due to a defective product, I went down a 5 hour rabbit hole that ended with me swapping out the conductivity magic plastic paper my shit working. Bless this man.
you can easily check the ps controller button by connecting it to your pc and go to control panel then to device and printer ,you can check there all ps4 hand bouton .
Hi. I watched through the whole video and noticed that you know what your talking about and I wanted your take on the situation that I’m having right now. For some reason my controller cannot function without it being connected to the charger. I haven’t opened it up. All the buttons work perfectly whenever I’m playing and I don’t think anything is wrong with the USB port considering that’s how I’m still able to use it, but yeah. Any kind of info would be greatly appreciated
Hi Alex ! Thanks for your video, my controller still works (though input is lagging) all buttons seem to be working and it does still power on, however it won't charge. It's a 20th century from a few years ago, I never used an original cable to charge and have used several power sources. Do you think the battery got fried?
Lots and lots of blessings dear...you saved my money..i was very upset what to do..ps4 experts said controller is dead...then i found your video and my controller is saved now...god bless dear ...but one question after changing the film controler is working in menu but now working in game i have to desconnect it from quick menu then press ps button then it connects...any solution for this sir?
@@Alex-jbz I have tried ebay but all or most of the parts are as cheap as can be and the ones advertised as OEM are cheap replicas. I have been trying to find a source of good or genuine parts which is surprisingly harder than I thought. Thanks for the reply.
@@PapaGleb yea that’s might be a tough one. Idk if Sony is the type of company that sells OEM parts or believes in “right to repair”. Tbh they probably outsource it to China anyway for economical reasons. Anyway, you can try to buy broken controllers to get a genuine one, but I don’t know if that would be worth it monetarily.
@@Alex-jbz yea your right. It makes sense why I am unable to find a source. Guess I’ll trial and error until I find a good quality parts. Thanks! Mine was doing the exact same and this helps, now works, Mine was part of the film near power button looked smudgy, cleaned and worked.. Except my L2 isnt working now -,-
My controller blinks yellow/orange (charging color) 3 times rapidly every time I, Press the PS button, Press the reset button, and plug a charger in while its connected to the PS4 or wall. The issue is I spilled a drink (choccy milk) and some of it got on my controller and leaked in through most of the gaps and buttons :/ when I first spilled my drink on it it still worked but the buttons were not responding, so I cleaned all the buttons and the conductive film and the buttons worked again but then out of nowhere my controller stopped responding, and started doing this Orange triple flash problem. Idk what to do, I don't think cleaning the parts again would help.
I had the same thing happen. Any idea where one buys film replacements? I assume there are diff variations based on build date. Nice troubleshooting video, well done.
I usually use Ebay. I also buy more than one because I fix multiple controllers and buying wholesale is worth discount and shipping. But if you're willing to buy from China, then it will be roughly $2 but you would have to wait a month before getting it. But if you buy it from the states it would be roughly $5, and you'll get it within a week. As for the part number, there are two different types: JDM-030, JDM-040. If your controller is like the one in this video, then get JDM-040. If your controller has two pieces instead of one, then get JDM-030. The best way is to take apart your controller and just see which one yours is and just compare it to the ones online. In no way am I sponsored by these links... Hello Alex, thank you for your video. My controller was completely dead, i went step by step using your video. I got the blue light to turn on through Ds4 windows. The only difference was that my PS button brought up a window on the laptop when i pressed it compared to yours that did not. Could the issue be the same as yours? Thanks.
Alex, I got a controller here. I press the PS button, it doesn't pair. I get blue lights when pressing the ps button. When I plug it in, it is orange (slow blinking). Tried letting it charge for hours. Tried disassembly (everything is connected and clean). Please help.
I’m going to try that. Thank you!! Every other damn video I watched, “Press the reset button. Plug it into your PS4, and you’re golden, bro-chacho!!”. Fucking obnoxious... So thank you for actually TAKING TIME to explain!! >M
@Zac Ballarin It's most likely the Circuit Ribbon shown at 11:00, i have the same issue, light goes off after i plug it in. Gonna buy one from AliExpress for 2 dollars and see if it works the only downside is that it arrives in 30-60 days
Hi I have the same orange light problem. But when I press ps button & share button together for some time, the controller resets(blinking white) ie ps button is ok. Do you it can be the same problem if my controller is resetting.
Do you know what the problem is with controllers not charging anymore after connecting to the ps4? Problem started yesterday tried about 5 chargers and even a new controller but nothing works
so i found something, if you connect the controller to a charging port or anything that makes the light light and disconnect the battery and connect it again. the controller would start charging but once you restart it or disconnect it, the problem would be back any thoughts?
ps4 controller was working fine a couple days ago but now it doesn’t do anything even when it shows it’s connected and the light is flashing and it even gets turned off by itself a couple seconds later of not working. I also went to device manager to check the problem and there is always a yellow symbol on bluetooth hid device even if I troubleshoot it the yellow symbols appears again and shows that it cant start. I dont know what happened suddenly please help.
Hi I have a ps4 pro controller which wont turn off, it shows charging even without the usb cable connected?? Ive changed the battery, usb and the ribbon, tried resetting but still the same?? Can you help?

Experiencing the same issues but determined to try a solution before paying due to a defective product, I went down a 5 hour rabbit hole that ended with me swapping out the conductivity magic plastic paper my shit working. Bless this man.
you can easily check the ps controller button by connecting it to your pc and go to control panel then to device and printer ,you can check there all ps4 hand bouton .
Yes you are right!!
I have the same issue but in my case the PS button is working fine. Wired works. Any suggestion?
This is probably due to your battery. Does is stay on without being plugged?
Did you find out what's wrong/a solution?
i have the exact same problem
I have this same problem as you and i change the battery so i dont think its thst
Hi Alex ! Thanks for your video, my controller still works (though input is lagging) all buttons seem to be working and it does still power on, however it won't charge. It's a 20th century from a few years ago, I never used an original cable to charge and have used several power sources. Do you think the battery got fried?
Yea it’s a possibility because using different cables at different voltages or current values that are not standard can degrade the battery over time.
Lots and lots of blessings dear...you saved my money..i was very upset what to do..ps4 experts said controller is dead...then i found your video and my controller is saved now...god bless dear
...but one question after changing the film controler is working in menu but now working in game i have to desconnect it from quick menu then press ps button then it connects...any solution for this sir?
Where do u buy your conductive film for the controller? What website do you use?
Thanks a bunch ,this really helped.
No worries!
Great video. Where do you order your parts from?
Depends. Ebay or Alibaba. I would go based on what's local to save on shipping lead times.
I know the sticks Sony and all console makers use are from Alps Alpine and those I ordered directly from Alps’ distributor but that is the only part that I could find the actual manufacturer lol. Iv always loved electronics and electronic repairs but it never made sense until just very recently and I got into it. Alex thank you very much for your time and replies. It’s so great watching videos but then when you have e a question no one ever replies. I get it the bigger the channel the most questions making it impossible to answer all but I’m still stuck with an unanswered question lol. Thanks again !!!
@@PapaGleb yea no problem! I try my best to keep up with the comments. Good luck with your search!!
Thanks! Mine was doing the exact same and this helps, now works, Mine was part of the film near power button looked smudgy, cleaned and worked.. Except my L2 isnt working now -,-
i know this comment is old but did you unscrew the controller then clean the button?
@@Sosatocrazyyy yeah took apart and cleaned the flex ribbon with a q-tip and it sorted the issue
@@Sosatocrazyyy I think in the end I ended up buying a new ribbon thing, was only a few pound and worked like new
@@frustration3263 Did you use alcohol with the q-tip?
@@SosatocrazyyyNo but isopropyl alcohol is fine to use
thank u, I really appreciate this video
What's the brand of the film ands where did you buy it? You didn't leave a link...
Amazing! I have the same failure mode. I didn't suspect that part. I wonder why that won't allow controller to turn on.
Thank you very much bro , worked like magic , pad fixed 100%
Thanx a lot man
Tho I have similar issue and honestly I don't really know who to trust on the fixing
I had the same thing happen. Any idea where one buys film replacements? I assume there are diff variations based on build date. Nice troubleshooting video, well done.
Amazing work. Cheers
My controller blinks once orange and turns off. Even plugged in. I press the ps button and it does flash white but it does not connect. Any advice?
awsumdogg gaming do u now how to fix it I’m assuming u did because this was 4 months ago
Thank you!!! I have the exact same problem with my controller. Where did you order the part from? And whats the part number?

So after your research did you find out how the film got damaged ? Just wanted to know if there's anything to be done to prevent it from happening.
Poor quality and and quick temperature differences.

Hello Alex, thank you for your video. My controller was completely dead, i went step by step using your video. I got the blue light to turn on through Ds4 windows. The only difference was that my PS button brought up a window on the laptop when i pressed it compared to yours that did not. Could the issue be the same as yours? Thanks.
Think u so much bruhh i was so desperate
Alex, I got a controller here. I press the PS button, it doesn't pair. I get blue lights when pressing the ps button. When I plug it in, it is orange (slow blinking). Tried letting it charge for hours. Tried disassembly (everything is connected and clean). Please help.
hey where would you get a relpacement film for that specific model?? PLEASE REPLY
Wait so if it does this does it mean it not charging? Or the light is just messed up
Worked for me, thanks a lot
Wow thanks u my mum just got me a new controller and it was doing the same thing
Thankyou so much Bro
I’m going to try that. Thank you!! Every other damn video I watched, “Press the reset button. Plug it into your PS4, and you’re golden, bro-chacho!!”. Fucking obnoxious... So thank you for actually TAKING TIME to explain!!
>M
Did it work :)) ?
@@erfan8200 It did indeed!!
Did you unscrew the controller and clean the button or you just cleaned it itself without unscrewing
my light will go on for like 20 seconds like its charging and then it will just go off...any ideas?
Same. did find a way to you fix it?
R2B2SW sameeee like when I try to log into my account it turns off and tells me to turn it back on
@Zac Ballarin It's most likely the Circuit Ribbon shown at 11:00, i have the same issue, light goes off after i plug it in.
Gonna buy one from AliExpress for 2 dollars and see if it works
the only downside is that it arrives in 30-60 days
@Zac Ballarin for real
@@bandreicatalin
Did that work btw? I'd love to hear the result.
when you plug it in it’s supposed to turn orange ? that means it’s charging ???
If you can’t replace it just put your controller in the freezer for 30 min it worked for me
Lmao are you for real?
Alex I’m deadass
Wtf
That actually work?
I tried it doesnt work for me 0
Your meant to show how to replace the film 😂😂
Thanks a lot! 👍
I just replaced my controller with a brand new controller and the problem remains. Can that be explained?
Hi I have the same orange light problem. But when I press ps button & share button together for some time, the controller resets(blinking white) ie ps button is ok. Do you it can be the same problem if my controller is resetting.
I need to see how you take out the blue conductive film
Do you know what the problem is with controllers not charging anymore after connecting to the ps4? Problem started yesterday tried about 5 chargers and even a new controller but nothing works
Same exact problem fixed it on my own though still thank you
Thank you this was really helpful!!!!!!
Glad to help!
thank you so much
Thanks bro this worked 4 me
so i found something, if you connect the controller to a charging port or anything that makes the light light and disconnect the battery and connect it again. the controller would start charging but once you restart it or disconnect it, the problem would be back
any thoughts?
Ur the best man
ps4 controller was working fine a couple days ago but now it doesn’t do anything even when it shows it’s connected and the light is flashing and it even gets turned off by itself a couple seconds later of not working.
