    Look how nice the corners and faces of those cants are. That mill really works nice with the geometry of that band.

      @BigelowWoodcraft it will make a HUGE difference if you start sharpening them at 7°, instead of the stock 10°. If you can get even 1 grind on them and run them each through 2 lives, they cost next to nothing.

      @BigelowWoodcraft  15 днів тому +1

      @williamprophett9148 I watched your video of grinding to 7. I've done that with rippers but not with one of these yet. I'll have to give that a try.

      @terryatpi I do have a system for loading up vehicles using a sawhorse and my tractor forks. I charged 55 an hour for this job. It almost always comes out to 50 cent a bdf. I'm upping my rate this year to 70 per hour. Thanks Terry for watching. Have a great week.

    Great looking “heavy” lumber. No tension either, that’s nice. I’d be curious if the log turner would have turned that behemoth.

    I thought you were going to saw into the log stop but looks like you had about 1/2 in clearance from our point of view. Those were some really nice looking boards. Looked very clear. We must shop for "work clothes" at the same place. My wife is always getting on me about the "rags" I wear when doing a dirty job. "Wear the old ones out first" is what my Dad always said.

      It wouldn't be the first time I got one lol. I'm sure it wouldn't be the last. I noticed that one I previewed the video. As for my clothes they are fine until they are not. It takes a long time until they're not lol. Have a great week Jim.

    I have to mill almost the EXACT same log and job this week. Log is just a tiny bit bigger around and almost exactly the same length. Gotta mill 11' 2 x 6 1/2" trailer decking. I'm gonna roll the log with the machine, I think. It's too much weight for the new hydraulics setup. The clamp works fine with the weight, but the log roller isn't built stout enough. It was flexing bad with the twin log last week.

    • @BigelowWoodcraft
      @BigelowWoodcraft  15 днів тому +1

      @@williamprophett9148 Bill, these big logs are no treat that's for sure. That's probably a good idea using the loader to roll. I too am milling up trailer deck boards. It's that time of year for repairs in the north. Stay warm my friend.

      I have a little of 1200. The extensions cost me 400 in steel. The z axis was about 600, the X axis was about 150, then switches, winch and odds and ends. For me, this is a great way to get into a mill that can perform many of the things a very expensive mill can do. It's been very fun doing all the modifications.
