These, paired with a smooth legal pad, are a dream. I've been putting the cartridges in hotel-branded bics and bic clones for literal "sleeper" pens. The ink does get depleted very fast, though! If this ink were in a "premium" pen, people would absolutely perceive it as such.
They really are, although I don't use them for normal writing. My handwriting is tiny and with a bold ballpoint it's almost guaranteed to smudge and blot.
Thanks to you for pointing out the little things that drive those of us who wish to preserve the English language and it's usage mad with frustration. With that in mind, you could well understand my surprise at hearing you say "this is A extra bold..." at 1:39, and "I guess that signifies this as A extra bold pen" at 6:47. When used before words beginning with a consonant, "a" is used, but before words with a vowel, "an" is the proper word. Just trying to help. Thanks for the great review...
Hi Luis! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your comment! Yes, we us "an" before a word beginning with a vowel or the sound of a vowel, such as, "It was an honor to meet you." Thanks so much!
If you ever come across Bic Pens at a garage sale, estate sale or thrift store and it has USA stamped on it you have found a vintage Bic Pen and can resell it for some good money an if you find the vintage round stic white body pens you can get even better money for them.
Excellent reviews! I have used BICs all my life. Today, I am only writing with BIC's 1.6 mm (Velocity or Cristal). I have one question: do you know why some of the colored ink fillings are not transparent but white? What's the rationale behind that? It should have to do something with the ink ...
Hi FH! Thank you so much, I'm glad you like the reviews. Like you, I'm a fan of the 1.6mm Bic pens. Funny how the ink tubes for the blue and black ink pens are clear (as they have always been on the Cristals) and all the other colors are in white ink tubes. This is also the case for the 1.0mm Bic pens - white ink tubes for colors other than blue/black. The white tubes don't let you see how much ink remains in the pen (unless you hold it up to a light). I think you may be right about it having to do with the ink. Maybe the formula for the colored ink is different and it requires a different type of tube to flow properly. This would be a good question to ask Bic. Thanks for watching!
Kevin, I honestly lost it laughing when you went on an unforseen "rant" about the word "Xtra" 🤣 No judgments though, it just caught me off guard after being so accustomed to the slower "smooth groove enthusiastic" tone in your voice! Aside from that, this video had some nice cozy vibes to watch and listen to in the evening, while enjoying some vanilla and peach ice cream! The footage has some really nice amber tones, like golden hour or a sunset lamp. Those pens look like a lot of fun! I like the look of the charcoal grey barrels. I've never tried these, but am tempted to some time! Fawn 😊
Hi Fawn - these are the opposite of a fine point - very thick and bold line. I think they write very smoothly and these have become a favorite of mine. Sorry about the rant! As someone who works in education, I'm easily bothered by things like that! LOL! Thanks!
I wish that the pens were French or American made. Maybe the reason my Xtra Bold BiCs look a little faded is because they're a little too old. Hence, I think that BiC Crystals give slight fading with age.
Hi Lucius - Bic no longer makes any pens in the US. These Xtra Bold pens have a smoky colored barrel instead of a clear on like the Cristal pens, I guess so you can tell the difference just by looking at them. Thanks!
Have you tried the Bic Crystal Ultra Fine? They have finer points like the orange "vintage" one, but in a smoky barrel like this Xtra Bold and - the best feature for me - needle pointed. They are actually my favorite ones because they are more pigmented even in a 0.7mm ballpoint tip. I use all the time. BTW, I love your handwriting. Thanks for the video, regards from Brazil.
Hi! I have not tried the Ultra Fine version of the Bic Cristal. Here in the US, they sell what they call "Xtra Precision" which has a 0.8mm ballpoint, but I haven't tried them. Great hearing from Brazil! Thanks for watching!
I just looked these up on Amazon in Canada, and they are label as Bic Cristal Exact fine point pens (0.7mm) and have a clear smokey blue barrel. Good to know you like them! I like Bic Cristal, but I do prefer a fine point, so I would like to try these. Thank you! 😊
I know the word extra is to correct spelling! But to my knowledge xtra was created for the the typesetters in the newspaper industry! This was to make it quicker to change something that came in at the last second to get it out on the newsstands. Now don't quote me on that but I believe that is the reason that became a so-called word! It's kind of like Christmas was changed to Xmas for space. Neither use is acceptable in my mind! But unfortunately those words are here and used.
Beryl you may be correct about xtra coming out of the typesetting trade. I will have to research this and see if it is the case. Yes, these words are here to stay.
Hi Michael - I don't have too many problems with these pens skipping (I seem to get that more in the 1.0mm version), but they are fun to write with! Thanks!
@Michael Landmann Really? For me most pen brands _but_ Bic skip and hang up. My Bics may be flowy or tarry, vibrant or dull, but they don't skip unless they have been sitting in a forgotten case for like 5 years or more.
@@michaellandmann2973 Very curious. That said I do get plenty of blotching with these Xtra Bold pens too. There's just so much ink coming out of the ballpoint. I can't even leave them tip-down overnight on my pen cup or the next morning there'll be an honest-to-god full-sized droplet hanging off the tip.
Yea, that was the Bic "For Her". It was marketed as a fashion accessory, which is ridiculous for a ballpoint pen, and really it was a solution to a problem that did not exist. And the pink and purple colors couldn't even be used in regular tasks.
Just out of curiosity do you do use the Palmer method when you write. I can detect the Palmer method in the beginning from the sound of the stroke! You say that to the young kids well 30s they don't even know what it is I wish they did.
Hi Beryl! When we learned cursive writing in school, our teacher used some of the Palmer method and some of her own. But she instilled in us that "your handwriting was a representation of your character," so she put a lot of emphasis on getting us to write legibly.
Now that grandma has passed my other half is gone and I'm stuck in Assisted Living each one of your new videos he's like having someone come visit me here and it's such Joy! It gives me such great memories of when I used to cook and when I had people around. Please keep up the good work. And all of your stoves and everything you keep showing brings back such great memories
You are the only pen reviewer on yt that actually has beautiful handwriting.
Thank you, Melkorify - I appreciate you watching!

How about Rhodia or Claire Fontaine, or Kokuyo Campus paper,? This will set your pen on fire--those are some smoooth papers.
Bic’s newer ink system is less spotty and skippy so I’m surprised they didn’t put it into this pen too.
Maybe the new ink doesn't work well with the larger 1.6mm ballpoint? But these are pretty smooth writing. Thanks!

What is this, an English lesson????????????????? Or am I being a little " XTRA" questionable?
Have you seen any of the calligraphy videos using the 1.6mm pen? Amazing art with "just" a Bic! There is one guy teaching "Kuligraphy" - very nice.
I did see one video where they were doing calligraphy with a Bic 1.6mm - amazing and beautiful! I'll have to check out the kuligraphy - thanks!
I like that digital simulated clipboard wood background. It looks better than the real stuff!

Hi Monica - thanks! I'll keep an eye out for them when I'm at the sales.
Why is the entire video so overly warm with a yellowish hue? The paper even looks yellow.
Hi CatLady - it was the old lighting that made it look that color. Thanks for watching!

just curious do they fade when you draw a straight line continuously with a blue pen?
I've only seen old pens have this problem.
