I've just bought this adaptor after watching the video but it doesn't work via the micro USB flash and the adaptor I saw in an earlier video? If i connect direct to the fire firestick then it works, strange!

Of course. But in order to get the increased Internet speeds shown here, you should get a USB hub 3.0 with Gigi Ethernet port and take advantage of that USB slot in your 3rd Gen Cube for connection. Add a flash drive to one of the hubs slots for storage & you're set.
