- WATCH THE FULL TAS SPEEDRUN HERE: • Left 4 Dead 2 in 48:10...
This is my breakdown and explanation of 2 campaigns in the Tool Assisted Speedrun of Left 4 Dead 2 All Campaigns 4 Player Co-op. This video was really awesome to analize and a big shoutouts to the original creators for letting me make this video. Tool assisted speedruns dont always get the credit they deserve and i hope this video can shed a little light on how much insane stuff really goes down in a speedrun like this.

Very great video to watch! It's great to have people understand one of the largest runs we've made so far... people will be able to bring this knowledge with them to understand the gameplay more into future runs. :)
I dont understand . do you guys youse aim bot or not cuz you lockon on to zombies
or perfect aim

@@CHaoS.GaminG and what that means xD
@@fakanecrofago9931 The time is slower for them so the game goes like 0.25 times the speed and in the footage is what the server sees or its just the footage of the slow game sped up
imagine being in an actual zombie apocalypse and see some dudes flying through the air at 1700m/s
A Hammer unit used to be (roughly) an equivalent of an inch in scale back in HL days. Not sure what the scale is for L4D2 campaigns, though.

My god did you just down your entire team and launched yourself across the county without hurting yourself? Why?

Imagine being in a zombie apocalypse and some guys set themselves on fire, shoot each other with grenade launchers and jump off cliffs and they be like "dude it's a strat, trust me"
imagine if bunny hopping was faster than running in real life. The Olympics would be hilarious.
technically the Olympic runners jump, because they spend more time in the air than touching the ground. (sorry, english is not my mother language)
Running is just bunny hopping on one foot and alternating
Technically they do it's just that they barely off come off the ground as they aren't doing record-breaking jumps every single time

I would love if you analyzed the rest of the speedrun in similar vids like this, I really enjoyed it.
Really love to see the techniques that are used getting explained, but I spotted 1 little mistake.
At 6:15 Rochelle isn't Idle warping, she isn't idle. Rochelle is teleporting because she is stuck.
Getting stuck on something (no movement at all possible) causes the player to be teleported to the closest teammate after a few seconds of being stuck.
Some people may have experienced this in L4D2 when walking up stairs and getting stuck between the stairs and a ceiling.
Just a minor mistake, but it's notable because it's an entirely different exploit.
Loved the vid! Watch the TAS guys, it's crazy!
oh shit i didnt even notice that is a stuck warp thanks for the help!
There must be a university class for this sort of a thing.
"Nick is stuck in place in an endless void."
*Don't we all?*
Run explanations like this are really interesting. It's hard to appreciate what people are actually accomplishing when you just watch a run as someone who has never tried before.
I'am not a active L4D2 player. I also haven't played any RE games but i really like watching your videos! Please keep up your good work :)
L4d and l4d2 are fantastic games. Should give one of em a try sometime with some friends
@@CGoody564 Well I Played L4D2 for 30min. But I guess today i will try it again.
Download the Resident Evil maps for L4D2 in the steam community downloads and DL all of the "working"(highest rated models, textures and weapons mods) in the steam community related to the RE maps you're playing on and you will find yourself having a very fun time.
At some points *shh* I actually got startled....
Dude, I will literally send you a copy of RE4. RE2 is a good place to start but RE4 is the best game in the series and the entire lore is almost explained in it and youtube can help fill in gaps. You're missing out by not playing them. People shit on 5 and 6 but theyre good in their own right. Just gotta separate them from the rest of the series or at least have a similar mentality. It's a great franchise.
@@jebd3293 I also heard those RE games. (1-4) quite scary. So playing them is so hard for me. I'am 18 but still i can get scared shitless

To more clearly explain what a TAS is or should be:
TAS stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun. Obviously. This may use things like RNG Modifiers. Which is how the players get things they want when they want them. Payday 2, a game that is about Heisters stealing things does have an RNG Mod for it so players can get good luck always.
Normally, a TAS is recorded Inputs that can be played back and watched by someone else. This is what TASBot does for AGDQ/SGDQ.
The rule for a TAS is no using Cheats (Almost always). The exception for Cheats is to either unlock something that is community accepted, like a Harder difficulty (DKC3 as an Example) or to enable a special mode. External Cheat devices or programs and developer cheats are not to be used in the TAS itself. (With exceptions as noted above) But, can be used to route and experiment with the game to find the optimal RNG and see what is possible.
For the Source Engine, the engine does allow the players to change the Timescale the engine uses. So, as an example. A frame perfect trick, can be made trivial by slowing down the game's internal speed. However, this is generally not approved by the Speedrunning community for Non-TAS Runs but is allowed for TAS Runs as the inputs when played back, show normal speed.
TLDR:
TAS is what a "Perfect" Speedrun looks like. Using various tricks to make RNG Perfect and Tricks trivial to accomplish.
about RNG, they RARELY if ever modify games for purposes of RNG, they just use save states or reload until they get lucky, since the game essentially plays itself this is just a matter of waiting
But modding the game to alter how it works it's rarely done
the way TAS "manipulates" RNG varies by game, but it is never directly manipulating the numbers. Take most fire emblem games for example. every time you change where a character is moving, and the pathing arrow re-draws, it advances the RNG, making it possible to manipulate. Games like Pokemon, or other RPGs can be manipulated by waiting for specific frames, or taking specific paths.
@@killroy458 Regarding RNG manipulation, a small fun fact is that i've found that most GBA games use RNG that changes the number every frame, while newer games only have their RNG update when certain actions are done
Weird considering that it's more CPU intensive and an older system would suffer more from it
@@rompevuevitos222 Programming the RNG to advance the seed every single frame is much easier to put into a tiny, limited space cartridge. It takes a couple of lines of code, where programming the RNG seed to advance for very specific actions takes up more and more space, the more intricate you want its behavior to be.
This counter intuitive approach, using the more CPU-intensive method on an older game, stems completely from GBA games having a very strict ROM size. It's a balancing act, basically. You sacrifice processor load in order to gain more space for the rest of the game.
@@CalculatedRiskAK Makes sense, i love learning about this kind of shit, even tho i'll never become a programmer
6:08 why does this sound so incredibly cursed and horrifying, the music and the way you said nick ends up dead makes it seem like one of those true crime murders you'll hear about on yt

cool video, this is actually the first time i hear about l4d2 speedrunning lol. it has very interesting and seemingly very difficult techniques, respect for people who speedrun this game.
i'm technically amazed that it's the first time hearing about a L4D2 speedrun, i mean... they're doing it since 2014 lol
Bruh...this is sick. 48 minutes of magical run, probably took a couple thousand (or more) hours to whittle down. Edit, test, review, repeat.
This was just as good as the RE4 RNG! Keep up the quality videos,
We love it!
thank you so much! i am so glad you enjoyed it
I've always known how insane TAS runs are and most of the tricks but having them explained in even more detail is nice i hope to see the rest
I really like that L4D2 speedrun in 48:10 and I love this video explaining how's that possible. great job Waifu
Man your stuff came up on recommend and I just watched one. I’m not even into speed running but this shit is gold!!! Keep up the great work
Wow, another amazing vid as usual I’ve been binge watching most of your content and it’s amazing how much you’ve grown as a channel, I love your content keep it up!
Dude, your play-by-play commentary over the TAS is awesome. I personally would like to see more of these play-by-play commentary videos of the TAS by you, as for someone like me, who has no idea on what speedrun strats the l4d2 use, it really helps make sense of the chaos; and I'm really curious on how you would cover the rest of the maps!
3 of my favorite speedrunners! it's really cool to see three or more of your fav speedrunners!! Also, nice video. I learned a lot and will use these tips to play better in my future runs. Thanks a lot and this will help me a lot. :D
Great video bro. I much appreciate the amazing breakthroughs in this.
Loved this video! Hope you make a sequel explaining the other campaigns!
Hey Trent. You're making great content on here. Clever, informative, and well put together. I've followed you on Twitch for quite awhile, but I generally just lurk. Awesome stuff, man 👍
Great job here, really can't wait for your next video please keep it up !
I too would really love to watch commentary for all campaigns! you did an awesome job, and I love the little jokes and stuff sprinkled along the technical commentary
the way you explain this is so well! I can understand all of this just from you!
This Speedrun is like an orchestra, every move is precisely perfected. Satisfying to watch
I love speed running the game and I love watching tas’s! Although I’m not great at speedrunning I do hope I can try this some day with some of the runners “sorry I got sidetracked” I love this video though it goes into depth on what’s going on as it’s supposed to and seeing the game be explained with good words is something I love to hear
Just happened upon this by chance on my homepage. Hope the algorithm treats you well bro. Definitely subbing! Only watched a couple vids so far but your production quality is excellent. :)
Yeah I'm gonna need you to do a full commentary of all the campaigns that was really interesting
really happy u started making this type of videos waifu
Your DMc run at gdq and your commentary in I think silent hill 2 made me a fan of you. Keep these videos coming please ♥
So much work done to go so fast. So much cooperation. Wow! Assisted or not, this is a huge accomplishment! Everyone involved should be very proud!!
very nicely explained and displayed
i usually dont like watching tas speedruns, since theyre so full of strats, that a first time viewer usually cant follow (now imagine 4 player coop tas)
you did a nice job breaking this tas down
This is PERFECT. Thank you. I had no idea what was going on in that video, and I would love to see a "full video" if you ever did one xD
Awesome thanks! I watch plenty of speed runs but have NO idea why they do what they do, this is great!
As soon as I have started this video, I paused it and watched the entire speedrun. It was awesome in some parts, but without the technical explanations about what is happening, most of the time you're left wondering what the hell just happened, and that's not enjoyable. Then I finished this video and I liked it even more than the speedrun itself. I hope you make more videos explaing the rest of the speedrun, because I think it's the way to enjoy it.
Commentated TAS are some of my favorite speedrunning content, please make more
Wow this video is really fun and informative! I'll watch the whole video 😁
lol the speedruns make this far XD
loved the video!!! really felt that bro ♥
Hey Waifu, i found your channel a few Days ago and i just wanted to thank u for the entertaining vids! Keep up the good work and the 100K subscribers will soon be yours! :) Greets from Germany, brother !

No idea how you're not more popular. Great videos!
Your videos are great man, i just have discovered your chanel and i am watching all the speedruns shit. Continue doing this !!!!
Please make more videos on all the levels this was an awesome watch!
awesome job again! glad i subbed
This is fascinating, what a composition
I found the speedrun but didn't understand what was happening so I searched hoping for an explanation and to my surprise I found this, thanks alot for making this I really like speedrun analysis
I love how even the TAS requires team work, in a game about cooperating with other players
Great video, really enjoyed it
The literal effort put into these runs is amazing.I can't u
Imagine how much time they put into it
So goddamn crazy. Watching this in awe while i get stuck by the first 2 zombies after opening the safe room.
id love to see the rest commentated/explained, this was great
I appreciate you referring to them by their in lore names like it's the actual survivors doing this
I’m glad people are still mentioning one of the greats, Left 4 Dead 1&2!
If the rest of the maps are similarly interesting to watch, you should absolutely make another video covering the other parts. I suggest this because i could watch the video 10 times and not catch half of these things, like why they were swapping difficulty levels, edge clipping to have safe falls, and that explosive shotgun shot to break the fall. All the calculations involved are very interesting to listen to!
you're telling me this guy just got recommend and just realised a l4d2 vid? insta sub
This is ridiculously elaborate. And also had to be done as a cooperative effort. Imagine how many tries it took for everyone to get their roles just right.
Great content! Much love from Brazil.
Come to brazil?!!?!!?

this was a really nice video, i think this channel's worth subscribing to.
I’m a huge L4D fan, despite not playing it much recently. I knew about insane Bhops & even bouncing on commons/various projectiles. But I never knew about explosive ammo like that
I love channels with these kind of themes
Holy crap that was awesome!
Yeah, no way I would have understood what was going on without this explanation. Quite stunning how much stuff is going on here.
Imagine trying this with three other people in real time... x_x
Tysm for explaining the difficulty change i was so confused
7:04 Having never seen nor played this game before, I just want to point out that in a bug-using, skip-heavy run like this, a player characters passes by a store called "Clipp's Classic Cuts". XD
Nonetheless, neat explanations! Thanks for uploading!
thank you for still making l4d2 content, great vid
I've got more hours than I care to admit in Left 4 Dead 1 (not nearly as many in L4D2), but this is still fascinating.
ur on a roll w/ your content
Damn...so much precise movements
I used to help a guy doing TAS speedrun, the precision required to pull all these stunts are insane. For example, if you throw item / shoot grenade launcher just a few milisecond too early, the person you're trying to boost will get blocked and straight up falls.
I used to help a TAS enthusiast who was later featured in a couple of chaos gaming speedruns. The skip elevator trick in Dead Center has a window of time of less than a second, if you warp just a tad too early you'll die and fail the entire speedrun. The bunnyhopping also takes a lot of practice as you have to constantly build up speed while avoiding obstacles. They even have a campaign map just for bhop training.
I really admire the L4D2 speedrunning community. TAS or not. Something about bunny hop, those precise movements and boosts are so satisfying to watch
How do you only have nearly 7k subs? You deserve wayyyy more
This is fascinating!
Do the rest of L4D2 speed running, love the vid. New fan
This is so mindblowing
Love the video. Please consider uploading in higher quality/resolutions in the future maybe.
Had to downscale for the source quality
@@WaifuRuns Ah, that's fair! Thanks for the great video.

This is absolutely insane
Great video, i have watched the TAS speedrun for l4d2 many times trying to understand things. And then you provided the view from other players that didnt show in the original video. How nice.
Any chance for the same video but with the other campains?
The hell I see my name 0:45, thanks man for featuring us
Very nice, thanks!
the subtle humor in this is amazing
Watching them bunny hop through the crowds of zombie in unison is LOL. Amazing what they can do made glitching a serious skill.
never have i been so happy for a video to be soon outdated with a new campaign for l4d coming out
This explanation voiceover makes me think that I watch some kind of uncracked case documentary
Great vid :D
Talk about good timing for this video
I'd watch a full series breakdown of each chapter for this TAS run ngl
oh man this TAS is awesome, im just curious what they used to go about it. i know the titanfall 2 community is working on a full game TAS at the moment.
this is insane!
whats even more insane is there is solo speedrun versions of TAS
The amount of teamwork on this run is ridiculously impressive
