His shows were cancelled due to low viewing figures. He had many years on TV. Nothing unusual in that. Why do people insist on this cancel culture rubbish around Benny Hill?
Benny and Jackie were Known for not Having cashed Numerous paychecks that were found in both Men's respective homes inside Bedroom Bureaus , Checks they recieved from there performances THAMES Television, showing that the weren't in showbusiness for the fame but the love of the craft it's self.❤😢
It's easy to forget just how fabulously funny Benny Hill could be and just how sweet and inoffensive his humour was. Yet he was an early victim of cancel culture. Much missed and a national treasure. The treatment he received when his show was not renewed was utterly shameful. Great post and lovely reminder of great times.
I am watching this with tears streaming down my face. How can u better this. RIP Benny you brought laughter to so many. Wish those times were back now!
You are so right!!! Not only was Benny Hill a brilliant talent in his own right, he was a brilliant talent spotter and understood the dynamics of comedy. I am sure Benny would be most appreciative that nearly 30 years after his passing, he is so fondly remembered. And Jack Wright too! Loved his Ulster accent!
Benny Hill, Morecambe and Wise, Dick Emery, Dave Allen, Russ Abbot, 2 Ronnies, Jimmy Edwards - sheer geniuses, the likes of which we will never see again.
Sheer genius . The last bastions of vaudeville. Next time we turn back the clocks I'm gonna turn mine back to when this was on tv instead of the shite on nowadays.
I write as someone who appeared on Mastermind in 1991. There have been one or two parodies of Mastermind over the years. My favourite is still the Two Ronnies' send-up but this one runs it close - and how sad that Benny Hill is remembered so dismissively as a crude comedian. He was far better than just that - and this sketch proves it! RIP all who appeared on his shows. Michael Schwartz, 17 out of 20 on Formula One motor racing.
Wee Jackie from Belfast was just the perfect foil! Just love when Benny rolls his eyes, his facial expressions are just legendary! Those two just worked so well together..God rest them.
Bennie Hill: To make people laugh...with just a half smile...a slight grimace....that's comedic mastery of the art....and Jackie Wright; for many, many shows; pummelled, scratched, patted on the head, half-drowned, slapped, poked, chased...an absolute star!
Utterly hillarious. Imagine a time when you had to think about the joke to understand the humor. You can tell Benny is about to crack up himself at some of Jackie's answers. The bachelor one - just classic. We miss you Benny - this world could use a good laugh.
Apparently he is said to have feft unlovable and man times it was reported it felt unattractive. Pity you are not around now Mr Hill, as the world would have proven y on wrong
Jackie Wright came from our neck of the woods, good old norn iron, Jackie used to travel back and forth from Belfast regularly and everyone knew benny slapped his head so he wore a hat, well he did the time I was at the airport but he was a very modest man and knew it was benny who made him famous
I absolutely love this sketch, a great pair. They really are one of a kind because nobody will come close to being equal to them. Both are very much missed.
In reply to punkoid 76. I am trying to say if there is a programme you see on tv and you dont like it switch over. Too many people are offended by everything today and I agree with you comedy does change. There were programmes I disliked in the 80s I disliked the Young Ones but I just switched the tv channel over now too many people want to take programmes off the air.
@@asnrobert "Pass" with the heavy Irish lilt of course sounded like..... Something a man does standing, a woman does sitting and a dog does on 3 legs, when not shaking hands! 😂
Benny wrote every show on his own, but he did accept ideas from producers and friends, but the main script was all written by Benny alone, who often spent weeks in the south of France writing the routines.
@@johnking5174 I was going mention a joke but have just realised it was actually by Stanley Baxter, so disregard this message. I can't seem to switch the message facility off, on my phone!
All the great comedians have done their own version of Mastermind, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise etc all very clever and funny. However imo Benny and Jackie here is not only very clever but by far the funniest. Ronnie Barker always managed to keep a straight face adding to the ridiculous authenticity of some of his sketches, but Benny here really struggles to avoid laughing which I think adds to the hilairiousness of it all.
The Barker and Corbett Mastermind was sheer genius due to the "answering the question before last" tag line whereas this one is just a series of clever gags, yes its very good but sorry not a patch on The ronnies
@@dlamiss I think each comedian brings his own style to it and all are enjoyable in their own way. Ironically, the Two Ronnies' Mastermind sketch uses an idea Benny Hill used twice: see the UA-cam Benny Hill videos European Questionnaire and Botched Interview.
Also the very funny clever news reader sketch Ronnie Barker did when there was an apparent fault with the typewriter which had mixed up the letters E and O is very similar to Bennys News Reader sketch where his glasses got trodden on and he couldnt see the auto cue properly.
I have the Benny Hill shows from the 1980's on DVD. My favourite sketches are Name That Tune, 1994, and The Video Machine. I also have songs from the shows on cassette.
I love it. But the ending is cut-off I think. I remember Benny telling Jackie "You have the lowest score ever recorded on Masterbrane" and then he pushes a button and the chair explodes LOL.
It was Mastermind.I think the all time champion at that time is a London underground train driver who is absolutely brilliant in common knowledge questions.
Comic Genius imo is what it is. I agree that Benny Hill was very funny but comedy changes with time, merely blaming everything on political correctness is wrong.
