  • PART 1
This E39 530d Sport (Manual) belongs to staff member Luke.
Being a staff vehicle we wanted to test the quality and fit of using the aftermarket Sill Panels available on eBay.
The corrosion growth around the Front Jacking Points and Sills has been getting larger and technician Luke decided it was time to investigate.
We knew the Genuine BMW Panels were either £495 or £1997 EACH SIDE depending on how long a section you need.
So we Luke was kind enough to be our guinea-pig and try a set of the aftermarket Sill Panels commonly available on eBay for around £100 per pair.
Hit subscribe to see our upcoming PART 2 once it's released.
We will have more info on our website regarding E39 Sills & Jacking Points soon.

Having just bought (yesterday), a 2001 e39 530d Touring with 218,000 miles on the clock, finding this video is so timely! Both sills have had work done to them previously and although I only bought it as a stopgap whilst my ML is away for a factory recall (another story altogether), I love e 39's so much that I'll probably end up having the sills replaced properly and keep it!
e39's are great cars - probably the best all-round executive car ever - and they should be saved wherever possible!
Looking forward to watching part 2!

This is exactly the type of repair I need on my E39 M5 from Chicago. Wish it was practical to ship the car to you guys; your level of work is second to none.

@@wawa168 a 530 is just as much worth fixing. These cars are only getting rarer and harder to find. One day there won't be many left if we don't fix them up.

My 530i 5 speed has met the same fate in IL I'm also looking to get that rust fixed on it ass the manual 530s are quite rare. Have you found a shop in IL that can do it? Luckily my 525i is pretty clean as it's been garage kept its whole life and only has 80k on the odometer.

For me, an underbody clean with wheel-arch liners removed has become another part of "routine maintenance" to reduce shocks to a minimum. Great to see some E39 love.

Really interesting video, my E39 is getting towards that sort of condition (just over 180k miles). This and the next part should give me an idea of what areas I need to get looked at in the near future. 👍

I took those covers off on my car back when i treated the rust. its gonna be dry now, and now water has a way easier time draining. Might me a good idea to put the front ones up for winter though so salt doesnt get in.

@@RedishMotorsportbmw Cool! It's just a really "interesting" problem I've come across in BMW ownership. They made a decent chassis overall and then hung the differential off metal from my grandparents' refrigerator. I've done the job but I'd like to see how you guys tackle it because your insistence on perfection or as close as humanly possible to it is a beautiful thing.

I was always jealous of the price you guys in the UK and the US can buy cars for but when I see them up on a hoist I feel sorry for you instead. I couldn't stand to watch my cars deteriorate like this. I have BMs and Jags among others. There is no rust at all but for a couple of minor spots in Jags that have been left in the weather. I had to pay $20,000 for my 645ci which is about as cheap as you find one but it's in great condition and completely rust free.

    My 2002 e39 530d
M Sport , black leather seats, with 222,000 miles on is now showing same rusting on the sills, has been dealer serviced throughout its life, is it worth spending to keep the car going, it still drives beautifully ? Thoughts 🙏

    • @Recklessness97
      @Recklessness97 Рік тому +2

Yes it's still worth spending the money to fix it. There's no other 5 series like the e39, last great 5 series in my opinion. Even better if you can do the work yourself then take it to a shop for paint. I'm planning to do so on my 03 e39 540i msport 6speed.
