Both of them are basically tracking the same way an optical trackball or mouse tracks. One uses infra-red and the other is human visible red. I also saw Janome's unit uses the older USB3.0 B connector while Bernina uses what appears to be an off the shelf TRRS connector like that on older smart phones. Personally I prefer the USB connector, more robust.

This really didn't compare anything as far as functionality. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Janome only has one mode, not two, and Janome cannot zig zag. Plus, the Janome ASR is much bulkier and has a long cord that can more easily get unplugged as you work. While Janome's ASR does have a ruler sole, Bernina does not. But, Bernina now since this video was made is building in their BSR so any free motion foot can be used. A comparison video should have compared all of these important differences.

      Hello,
Yes, Janome only has one mode for their ASR system and Bernina has two, I believe we showed both BSR modes in this video and never alluded to Janome having more than one mode.
In our experience working with Janome's ASR system, I have never heard any of our employees or customers reference the stitch regulator getting unplugged.
You can absolutely zIg zag with Janome's ASR foot, with the echo quilting foot sole.
Bernina's new BISR stitch plate for the new B990 has only been recently released...impossible information to include in a 10-month-old video.
The goal of this video was not to do a full comparison of BSR and ASR and pit the two feet against each other but to show the two feet side by side, and show off this incredible technology.

The sound that a sewing machine makes means a lot to me and I like the sound of the Janome 😊

Our employees are relatively split on which they prefer. I personally like the feel of the Janome ASR better. When using the ASR it just feels like the foot is gliding over the quilt producing perfect stitches, it's so smooth. The BSR is incredible, but it does have more of a bouncing feel to it.
