In this pair of vintage screwdrivers restoration video I removed all rust by using 7% white vinegar and steel brush wheel. Then I made two pairs of matching wooden scales for the handles and a completely new leather hanger for both screwdrivers.

Thank you for watching, see you in the next one!
You can be proud about such a nice comment from "by OldHand".
This guy does a brilliant job and produces videos in near cinematic quality.
Recommend watching his channel.
I am aware of his channel and I gladly subscribed to @by OldHand Love his work and videos. Thanks a lot for mentioning that to me, I appreciate it a lot 👊😊
@@FFD_Restorations I am wondering what are those shoes you wear called ? those are fantastic..
Thanks! I am not sure, but I will find out 😉
@@FFD_Restorations semi helpful. What brand are the socks? 😉😂😂😊
And hopefully you wear pro safety diapers, in case something goes terribly wrong 😂😜🤣😁
@@mercuryrising9174 the type of shoes I use is called wingtip shoes and the manufacturer is Italian brand Zett ClassiC. Hope this was helpful
...good to see old tools put back to use,, good work...
Thanks 👍
Great restoration
Thank you kindly Marina
RESPECT ! And thank you for sharing !
My pleasure
Nice restoration and leather holder.
Excellent job, once again Boris! It always amazes me the kind of work you can do with hand tools. Learned something too: using the wood block when hitting and shaping metal. Thanks! 😊
Cool, thanks a lot Kathy. I'm always glad to read your feedback and hearing that you found something helpful in my video is absolutely wonderful. You're very welcome! Take care!
To start, my Grandfather had a set of those screw drivers they were called 100 year screw drivers. Injoy seeing you in the old shop.
I didn't know that name, I am glad you shared it! Awesome, I appreciate that sir!
Very good. I really like the holster you made I’m going to do the same. It I have a pair just like yours. Only one will need restoring. They came from my Dad’s 1943 carpenter tool box that he used before joining the Navy for the war.
David made an excellent point “sound where needed silence where appropriate”. All to often people think they need to add music or jokes to make there videos good, when in fact they do not. I believe most people just want to be informed. Thank you
Thank you so much sir for such a lovely feedback, much appreciated!
😀👍
Great show! My grandpa came over from Norway started a dairy farm in Wisconsin. His last name was MOEN. Myself I was a carpenter. Retired now but still into woodworking doing everything the old school way hand tools, molding planes and such all so a leather worker lot of satisfaction and good therapy. Good luck on your Chanel I will be watching. Tim
Hey Tim, I was happy to read your comment. Thanks you for sharing sir! Awesome to hear that you still work in your shop and that you still enjoy the process. Beat wishes from Norway 👋😃
I was happy to see someone repair the "mushrooming" on the back end of the screwdriver the proper way. Most would have just filed it down which removes more metal than needed. Very good job!
Glad to hear that, much appreciated!
Those are beautiful! Especially the wood🤗 I have a basket exactly like your leather working basket. I use it for jewelry🤗 My leather working tools are in an Amish basket I bought back in the 90’s. I love both of them🐝🤗❤️
So cool Deborah! Thank you so much 🤗
@@FFD_Restorations You’re welcome🐝🤗❤️
Congratulations on your work! It is a forgotten art to use hand tools. I remember when my grandfather and father were alive and they had these tools that you use. Oh yes, I am 51 years old. I love your channel! I´m from Brazil!
Hey Eduardo, thank you so much! I am glad you remember these tools and bring back some old memories! Stay safe, kind regards from Norway!
yes yes yes, back to the old Outfits, enjoyed watching your work as usual. you a real master. always learning from you. thanks, and keep up the great work. you are talented.
Awesome, thank you sir!
Boris, you did a great job. The natural sounds of the video are of an amazing quality. You even turned the vinegar scene into a visual feast, congratulations. your work is excellent as always. Thank you so much for this Monday gift and I wish you a great week ✌🏻🌟⚙️⚒️
~And a little confession. I envy the bench drill.~ 🐈🙂
Thank you so much my friend, very happy to read your comment. I try my best, there is still a plenty room to learn and improve. Watching your videos is great motivation to make videos and for that huge thanks! I was thrilled when I bought bench drill, truly amazing piece of engineering. Stay safe my friend, I will be checking your newest video tonight 🤝😃👍
@@FFD_Restorations take care my dear friend. looking forward to your new videos ✌🏻🌟
Thanks, you too 👍
What a great workshop. All these old tools. Best wishes from germany
Thank you kindly sir!
Excellent restoration👍🪛!!
Thank you very much!
@@FFD_Restorations, you're welcome.
im amazed by your tool that using on restoring no need some electricity..and the result was awesome too.
Thank you so much!
I have 8 of these drivers from my grandfather. And several speciality tools for like model A and T Fords. Ancient hand tools for wood working- planes, scrappers, bit/ brace and bits. I’ve used them a lot.
Awesome 👌
Remarkable workmanship on both tools and leather work. Nice to see the old skills being kept alive 👍😊
Thank you very much sir!
I bought and "restored "" one of those Perfect screwdrivers a couple of months ago. Just used hand tools: oils, sandpaper, files etc. Didn't remove handle or make holster. I'm very happy with it but it's a world away from what you did. Loved your work and if I was starting out I'd aspire to a workshop like you are creating. Great fun which is as it should be.
So cool, thanks for sharing your restoration process sir! Result is not the most important but the process, experience and joy that restoration brings is to be counted! Well done!
Thank you so much! Hope you will continue restoring and enjoying the process! Stay safe!
Perfect job Boris, as always. Well done! 😃👍🏼
Thank you so much 😀
I’m seeing some of your older videos for the first time. Your work and the equipment that you use is incredible. Thank you for sharing information such as the % vinegar, types of oil, etc. Well done!
Wow, thank you so much 😃👍
I do have some of electrical equipments, but my passions still on oldschool ways.. love your shop 😍, thats envy me..

Thank you too Tony!
The old man Lothar from Germany likes your work very much. Nice that you showed us your restoration of an old screwdriver.
Thank you Lothar very much
@@FFD_Restorations I bought a screwdriver like that about 50 years ago.
@@lotharrommel3456 awesome, glad you did. Because they're really good 👌
@@FFD_Restorations The old craft should be preserved. Nice that you can see it. 👍
@@lotharrommel3456 absolutely, I couldn't agree more. Take care!
Love the fact that you also went the extra step and made yourself a holster for the 2 screwdrivers as well.
Excellent work on the restoration as always.
Glad you liked it! Thanks a lot!

I am truly impressed young man, outstanding outcome to the project, and the carry holster was the frosting on the cake, nice touch. Thanks for the video sir.
Much appreciated sir, thank you kindly!
Ciao
Ciao mio caro amico, grazie mille. Molto gentile da parte tua! Vi auguro tutto il meglio!
JUST LIKE NEW!!!
What a video you made Boris. Interesting, sound where needed, silence where appropriate, wonderful music to spice things up. The shop continues to evolve and your wardrobe is looking good. Just great! You do need a proper, period appropriate, cork for your vinegar bottle though. The silicone brings me back to the present. Again, love it. You can be very proud.
Many thanks David! I have difficulties having everything in the correct period because I can't just go to the store and buy them. It is a long process finding correct items, especially in Norway. Thanks again, take care!
Thank you so much
Amazing
Greetings from Mexico
You are welcome! Thank you so much 👍
couple of really nice tools for your collection restored just right so as to be useable, nice work, and more improvements to the workshop, coming along really well, and you really looked the part at the beginning of the video and the leather holster is a really nice touch to finish off everything
Thanks a lot, much appreciated 🤗
You do sure wonderful work.
Many thanks!
Every video I see from this channel is incredible. I love seeing all the vintage machinery being used as it was intended to be. Great job on making these tools be center focus on this wonderful channel.

I find you and your shop absolutely fascinating!! Slowly but surely I'm getting my Blacksmith Shop all human powered. Your machines are brilliant!! Perhaps someday you could give us a shop tour and explain all your tools and equipment.

🤗👋😀👍
Great job! You always do nice work! Always fun!
Thanks again Mike!
Saudações do Brasil.*
🤗👋😀👍
Tak for delingen. Dejlig video!
Bare hyggelig!
👏👏👏Great video as always...👏👏👏
Only that :
1. I would install another strap with 2 loops to hang the screwdrivers to keep them higher... those screwdriver tips looks like they shall poke a hole on your pants.
2. The old fashioned way to poke holes in leather with that fork to sew, it's to hammer over the top of a log with the fibers faceing up. So you have more control and less "caos" during the hammering, the fork can get deeper in the leather, and the tips don't get any blunt, jagged or unsharped you know... it's like the "leather's anvil" 😁
Cheers keep on restoring...🗝💪⚔️🗜🧐⚒️
Thank you, I appreciate your tips and suggestions! Sounds good!
Nice!
🙏😉
Your collection of hand and foot powered tools is astounding! I'm working towards that and am quite envious. I'm sure I've lost bids on ebay to you lol
Thank you sir!
Amazing work brother!
Thanks a lot brother!
Well done, your grandfather would be pleased.
Much appreciated 🤗
Very well dun sir 👍👍up to the time you did the leather poket screwdrivers should bin up higher sir dont look right that low but good job on screwdrivers my friend thank👍👍you for your time buddy stay safe.
Thanks for the tip and watching! I appreciate that!
These patterns of screwdrivers were known as London Screwdrivers. They were wonderful because they could be persuaded by Birmingham Screwdrivers!!
Absolutely *LOVE* the ambiance of your shop. I saw so many hand tools I’ve never seen before. You’ve definitely got a new subscriber. About to start binging your videos. Brilliant content!
Thanks and welcome 🤗
We need to get you an old pair of Red Wing IRON RANGER boots! (They will protect your feet, and so totally look the part). What kind of wood are you using for the handles? You do such a great job; you've gotta have an Elf helping out with the vids. If you're totally self-producing, my hat goes off to you twice!
Cool idea, thanks! Wow, thank you kindly! I'm using curly birch wood for the handles. It is a one man production 😀
Oh yeah 👌
First time on your page...now subscribed...very impressive...and i don't give compliments out very much...again nice job...🖖
Welcome aboard! Thank you so much sir, I appreciate that!
It's wonderful to see all old school tools running for a restoration ☺️ , love your videos.
Thank YOU for taking time to watch my videos! Much appreciated!
"Screwdrivers at dawn, Wyatt!"...
fantastico
👍
Superb restoration, well done sir. I take great pleasure in watching you use the tools of yesteryear.
One question though,
was there a reason you didn't "re-square" the tips?
Thank you sir! Square tips were too sharp, so I had to chamfer them down slightly.
What species of wood did you use for the handle scales? They’re lovely.
Hey there, I used curly birchwood for the handle scales 😃
Thanks for watching!
You should check out the UA-cam channel Mr. Chickadee. He’s all about using nothing but hand tools. He’s amazing as are you. I love your channel.
Hey, I am actually familiar with Mr. Chickadee's channel. He is an absolute master! Thanks, I appreciate that very much!
Nicely done! Say are those screwdrivers forged? Anyway well done as always.
Thank you sir! They are produced by method ¨drop forged¨ 😉
When was the belt sander and wire brush wheel invented? I always thought that the wire brush and sandpaper were fairly modern.
Hey, steel brush dates from the Roman period. They used it to create roof tiles as findings suggest. The first ELECTRICAL sander was introduced in 1927, while the belt system that I use in my shop dates way before. Thanks for watching!
@@FFD_Restorations Thank you for that information. The history of tools is something that I really need to learn more about.
Nice job, beautiful work. Where do you get the tools that you restore.
Thanks, mostly locally here in Norway ☺️
@@FFD_Restorations Thank you for the response. I’ll see if I can find some tools around here in Louisiana, USA. Keep up the great work and cranking out your videos.
@@nevilledarcy6434 no worries 😉
Have a good one!
Nice job. But video and sound aren't working at the same time. Sound is faster than the video
Thanks! Video and sound is synced, there should not be a problem there. I experience that before while watching videos on UA-cam and I just close the video and open it again and it works just fine. It seems that it doesn't load it correctly sometimes.
When you showed “parafin oil”….would that be kerosene here in the United States?
Yes, that is right. Kerosene is actually extracted from parafin oil. Both are good option for heating and light.
@@FFD_Restorations here we use mineral spirits same thing only different
Excellent restoration.
Thank you! Cheers!
