Brilliant ideas, another idea suggestion, pair of vinyl gloves. Good for work on the bike and can be used inside another pair of gloves for extra water proofing and blocking cold air and they do not take up much space.

Great suggestions, and I've been using Rok straps for years and can confirm they're fabulous. They're a bit more expensive than regular bungees, but an order of magnitude better and they don't crack and fall apart the way cheap bungees do. I have some top-opening Pelican cases that I custom-made brackets for as my panniers, and I definitely have a bit of "airspace" at the top under the lid that's hard to use. Definitely going to consider doing your bungee trick!
I’ve been doing the registration and insurance card in a ziplock, under the seat for years. I have not kept the $20 with them to avoid any “misunderstanding” ;-), but the “time for conversation/interaction" feature has, indeed, worked. I feel kinda dumb for not coming up with the zip-tie idea...I have miles of tubing for tapping maple tree! Thank you for that and the others! I’ve never see the Rok straps...headed to those after I cut some tubing!
hell yeah, good ones! I've been using a similar sorta foldable drawstring bag for a while now - thankfully it squeezes into a gap under the seat. This also makes me wonder why we don't see more storage nooks in bikes - at least for little things like a foldable bag, phone, wallet, and cards.
These are some of the best hacks I have seen and will definitely be getting the Rok straps. The storage area under the lid is fantastic and I might check how much room I have between my helmet and the lid on my topbox. Cheers from Australia.
Always open the panniers from the rear and hinge at front. If you forget to latch it the wind will keep blowing them shut. By opening in front if you forget to latch-bye, bye lid.

I was puzzled about keeping your registration and insurance on the bike. In the UK we don't have to present them to the police. They can get the information immediately online from DVLA, and if there are errors we have 5 days to take the documents to a police station. It helps to have a national registration database.
Registrations are done by the states, so there are 50 different rules here! I'm from Georgia and my proof of insurance is filed with the state, but you're still supposed to keep it on the bike (maybe in case their system goes down). Other states may not be able to access the information from Georgia, so it stays on the bike.
I used to ride a DR650, and I never got a ticket on it. When I got stopped the police officer was usually so happy that I just stopped instead of trying to take off through the woods that they would give me a warning. A couple of these hacks I'm going to implement this afternoon, that lid bungee trick is my favorite.

One thing to consider about the Rok straps is that they can work your load out of position if you hit washboard roads, the elasticity can be a detriment in some cases, use wisely. I'm definitely going to get some tubing for my zipties - they are always a bit of a pain to store otherwise.
I usually carry cash, but having some extra on the bike sounds like a good idea. I also never thought about bringing stainless steel zip ties. That's a great idea. I also have a hide a key for the bike in case I was to somehow lose my ignition key. I keep it stored under some of the panels, zip tied to the bike. Thanks

Additional package tip: Keep a phone in one of your jacket pockets, so not in your bike luggage or backpack. Should you ever drop your bike and be immobilized (cliffs...), you have a better chance to call for help. Always keep a damp soft cloth at reach, e.g under a bungee cord tied over you pillion seat. Good to remove large insects or bird poo ((assuming that occurs often as with me)
First time viewer and new subscriber here! I went from riding a BMW R1100RS to a KTM rc390 and the only thing I really miss is the storage. I've been carrying one of those cheap drawstring bags under the seat of my little bike and I can stuff a light sweater between the fairing and frame on one side, that's about it. The compact backpack you showed would double my carrying capacity, I gotta figure out where I could stash one. I've carried zip-ties for years but never in such an organized manner.

@mustachemoto already ahead of you! I bought a Royal Enfield INT650 about 3 weeks ago and have put almost 300 miles on riding when I can. I can't understand how people will buy a buy, keep it for say 2 or 3 years, and barely turn 500 miles in that time. Putting miles on a bike isn't hard, you don't even have to go on big journeys to rack up miles and experience

5 bikes, have $20 with every registration/insurance....never know when I need to bribe a cop I got bags laying around everywhere, all of them are for a purpose and setup to go on a particular bike but they can be easily altered Point is I've never not had the room to carry what I need......Versys is only bike setup for a wk or more travel....the XR only has space enough for registration and insurance......and it doesn't travel, maybe some day I'll take it the dragon and wear a backpack, but its made for riding the dragon NOT riding to the dragon I have never carried quick ties.......in a tube is certainly the way to do it I have these keychain wallets, 3-4 dollars at Walmart, close with Velcro stuff goes in pocket with zipper, then in plastic bag, then in bag on bike......now I found keeping it in the saddlebags of the Versys is not good idea, I went to my brothers in Tenn, stripped off the bags and went to the dragon, pulled over no registration insurance, and no $20.......there are advantages to being old and bald

Nothing heavy for sure, but having a pair of gloves or a rain jacket tucked up there only adds a few ounces. Besides, the hinges on the Touratech boxes are pretty much indestructible

I fitted a sidecar and I store all of my essentials in there…

Duct tape, small compressor and tyre reparation kit, baby wipes.
