Thank you so much for having clean videos without constant foul language. Just good, downhome, family safe videos. Much appreciated!

My daddy (a retired entomologist) was a bee keeper for many years, but before I came along in the family (he was near 40 when I came along!). You are a gentle man, Dirt Rooster! I love watching you do your work, and interacting with people, but most of all, the education you give is impressive. I love bees, and Idk if I’d ever be able to keep bees, but I sure enjoying living the bee life vicariously thru your videos. Say hi to your wife for me cuz she’s a sweetie!

You can see the queen! 9:15 to 9:27 right in the center of the picture. That is so cool! I have kept bees for years and that never ceases to thrill me!
Love that he's discussing the queen and she's right there in front of him wandering around on the comb at 9:27 and again at 10:00, but you spotted her 😁
*"The venom of the golden silk orb-weaver is potent but not lethal to humans. It has a neurotoxic effect similar to that of the black widow spider; however, its venom is not nearly as powerful. The bite causes local pain, redness, and blisters that normally disappear within a 24-hour period."*
628DirtRooster Also, the that is a female, the males are the size of your finger nail. Also, for some you can swell really bad from a bite. It does vary from person to person.
We have a lot of those spiders up here in North Carolina some big ass one there's probably 10 to 15 of them around the outside of my house up on the eaves
I don't have a fear of them even though I'm deathly allergic to all their bites. Any spider in my house is dead meat. Black/Brown Widows and Brown Recluse are dead inside or outside. I have been known to take pictures of them before I execute them. My sister, mum, and step-dad never understood my fascination with them when they were all afraid of them.
I’ve been using all 8 frame equipment with the Ceracell feeders since 2018. Very happy with these setups. They will build serious burr comb in the middle dome though.
When I was a small boy walking to school in Southern California, I past by a house with a back door with screen door and small roofed stair to the sidewalk. Right in the middle, covering the entire entrance was a huge perfect radial orb web and right in its center was a massive (even bigger than the spider in this video) white, yellow, and gold spider. I had never seen such a thing in my life at the time, though I have seen some since. It was beautiful! I do not really have a fear of spiders, but large ones inside my house I do not like, most especially black widows.
Totally agree with you on the comments about 8 frame hives. I am only using 8 Frame medium hives. All the same frame means everything is interchangeable. The weight is wonderful for me to handle, and I am a 60 year old woman (not exactly small at 5'10" lol) in pretty good health. I committed to the 8 frame size so that even if I am not feeling my best I can still lug a full box around if need be.
That Texan, as a 42 yo woman in Washington, I appreciate this comment. I am still just researching, but plan to start gathering equipment a few years ahead of time. I would like to avoid regrets or not enough boxes when splits or supers need added. Thank you for commenting. It is hard to find many women beeks
My Grandpa lived in GA when I was growing up and there were loads of Banana spiders around when we came to visit. Nothing like riding your bike through the woods and coming face to spider with one of those bad boys!
great video- well explained- those feeders look amazing and the multiple access looks like it would also help the bees keep invaders out- much love... blessings..Glo
We call them Golden Orb-Weaver spiders in Australia. They are really quite docile, they'll crawl on your hand and up your arm and don't normally bite unless you really annoy them. :)
I've been running 8 frame, when I put a nuc in I just put the honey frame up and the brood down in 2 boxes to start with. Using drawn comb and feeding you might get a month before they need room but they pack drawn comb quickly.
Thanks for that, my right arm ain't what it used to be after the accident so an 8-frame box might be what I needed. Also in the FWIW That's a Female Golden Silkweb Spider, (Nephila Clavipes) the males only get to be about the size of a quarter. As for their venom, well let's just say size matters. Their venom is less painful than a bee's venom but she would give you a lot more of it. Luckily she only bites people when they get her caught between their clothes and body or a similar situation. And on top of that she is almost completely blind despite having 8 eyes so she depends on her webs to feel her way around. Thanks for not squishing her. I know she eats bees but she would probably prefer larger flying insects to the bees.
That was definitely a large female of the Golden Orb Weaver family, named for the yellow tint to their silk and the shape/style of their webs. Most likely _Nephila clavipes;_ scary-looking but harmless to humans, and the ones you have down there only live about a year. The males are teeny, a bare fraction of the female's size. The top drawer coming off was a near perfect separation; nice one! I hope they get over the beetles and do well by you~
You’re incredible. I don’t live in an area where I live but watching you has made me interested. Do you have any hats for sale with your logo on it? I would love to wear it.

Love your videos man, it means a lot to see there's still people that make content of things they enjoy. Keep up the hard work my friend you deserve the best!
8 frame boxes have not been the best choice for the hard winters we have near the canadian border. I don't know why, but side by side the 10 frame hive overwinter much better. The vast majority of my hive boxes are 8 frame. Thinking about changing over to a large brood box on bottom, and using 10 frame honey supers for brood boxes the rest of the way up. Thank you for all you do for us.
Hope you are doing well. You haven't posted in a month. Hope "good" life is getting in the way and that you and your family are happy and healthy. Love your videos and your happy go lucky attitude!
I was taught as a little girl here in Nebraska to leave the big, spiders alone, they are the GOOD ones. They kill the much smaller and dangerous ones. So yep, leave them be, God did not put them here by accident. Happy BEE Wrangling. That's a good looking end table hive!!. God Bless.
I work with warré hives. They are 8 frames and quite small. I prefer them a lot over the simplex hives most people around here (belgium) work with. But you do make a good point that you need to stay on top of them. It is surprising how fast they build out two eight frame warré boxes.
HOLD MOTHER OF GOD! I’ve never seen a spider than big in my life! Guess that’s what happens when you live in Washington; nothing grows that big...except for me, that is! LOL! I think if I saw my husband using my wrapping paper - my (EXPENSIVE!) wrapping paper - for a drip cloth...ooohhh...he better hide! LOL! Much love, Shelbie =)💚🎃👻💜

The spider, at the beginning, is a Basilica Orb Weaver. Only females spin webs, and (just like other orb weavers and garden spiders) they’re harmless to humans and pets, unless your pets are bees, lol. They’re more inclined to catch flies, mosquitoes and beetles, than bees, though. Pretty much anything that spins a “halloween decoration” type web is good to have around the house.
Hey Rooster I'm a professional woodworker and I myself would not use PolyShades for exterior applications. I would start with a simple oil based stain, topped with a thinned down oil based clear coat. Do not build up more than two coats. You thin 10% to 15% the top coat for penetration and addhearance.
@@628DirtRooster this one is good for now. Just remember that Poly means plastic, might crack over time. If you use something like Minwax Urathane, or Marine Varnish they are a little softer and more durable.

Did you hibernate for the winter. I miss ya. Was in the hosp and rehab for a month, blocked intestine, ouch! I had my I pad but couldn’t find much to watch. See ya soon!
Love the Ceracell gear, even if it is made by our cousins across the ditch😁🤭. I have been switching over to their frames and not had any extractor blowouts. I have the top feeders but not needed to use them yet but I am sure the day will come.
Mr. "Dirt Rooster", I haven't seen you post a video in a while. I pray all is well with you and your family. God bless! (although, to be fair i am a new subscriber - so im not exactly sure how often you upload new content) Still, be encouraged. I really enjoy your videos they are encouraging entertaining and educational.
Thank you very much for subscribing. I typically post once a week but I've been on the road working since the hurricanes hit. I'll be posting again soon but uploads will be sparse for a couple of months.
I was thinking the same reduce reuse recycle, or you can post it on craigslist "FREE nightstand" works great, slightly used. Or if you have frames that could fit that you could use it like that.

"What do the Beetles do?"
My first thought was "Sing mostly".
They keep the bees up all night sitting on the roof playing music. :D
Ah so that's how they defeat them. They make them dance and party until they fall out.
Long-haired, huddled together, and stink of weed.
"i can never find my queen clips" casually throws it into the truck bed.

A buddy of mine said if when eating a watermelon and not getting it all over you, you ain't eating it right.
I haven't had much trouble with beetles, except for a weak nuc. Bought some Guardian Hive Entrances to try out this next spring 😊
Strong hives will usually keep them under control.
Dirtrooster, will you be adding those fancy roll-out boxes to the store? The bees only built on the bottom because there were no frames in it.😎
I’ll have to get them in my store for this coming spring. What kind of price do you think I should put on them?
them big ole banana spiders will eat mosquitos and the like too, very nice to have on property. love your vids :) thank you for what you do
Spotted the queen before you hit the slow mo. :)
Nice folks and definitely quality equipment.
You know this is going to be serious when the Rooster takes that fancy hat off to git'r did!!!!
I didn't wan't something to pop out of that bottom drawer that might ruin my hat.
Lol Yappy
Thanks for the video.
I saw the queen in the slow motion. Wish I could do it in real life. :)
I slowed it down for Jeff. Glad it helped you out too. ;)
9:19 queen in centre of shot ;")
I was thinking the same reduce reuse recycle, or you can post it on craigslist "FREE nightstand" works great, slightly used.
Or if you have frames that could fit that you could use it like that.
Hello tenks for the ansuer, the queen cell looks slick, do not look peanut texture,
Funny! Amazing hive in a drawer....
