Oh wow I never gave it any thought of painting this kind of background first then drawing on top of it. Usually I do the drawing first & then the painting. No wonder I have been struggling with this situation. These tips are great and makes for wonderful success. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you! I find granulating colours work best with texture techniques, like salt, cling film, wet into wet etc
