Let's explore negative painting technique! In this video I will show you how this technique can enhance your work and allow you to create beautiful watercolor effects. Enjoy
New generation of children should be taught to color outside the line. I remember in school my teacher will say over and over " Make sure you color inside the line" Now I struggle with my mind to grasp negative painting technique. I just have to practice every day. You do beautiful work thank you.
Also, thanks for the transcripts. Because of them I can focus entirely on the video and then use the transcripts later to make a summary of key points for me to learn.
What I learned from this tutorial is the white edge perimeter of the leaves. I've been practicing botanical leaves and negative painting on the veins but hadn't realized to do that on the edges of those in direct light. So beautiful, Anna and you make it look so easy!
Gorgeous painting. You make it look so easy but it demonstrates your intuition and skill. Has inspired me to keep trying to master this approach. Thanks.
Wonderful, I really appreciate the tutorial because it shows a magnificent technique for painting floral arrangements, thank you for showing step by step how to proceed, thank you again
I recall seeing this on early videos, but it didn't register until the explanation about what was actually being done- very eye opening. I really like the effect. I like the composition of this piece, as well- great work!
Absolutely beautiful! These "complete" paintings, i. e. where the whole paper is covered, and the main subject is integrated with background objects, are my favourites.
My favourite colours not to mention the actual flowers. This one I definitely need to try. I’m trying to learn the layering technique and not go in too hard with strong colours from the start. This will be a good test for me. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial. Your commentary and the immediacy of your painting style together make instruction crystal clear. I have learnt so much about wet in wet and layering I had never thought to do before. Thank you, Anna, for the quality of your videos. Now, I must try to replicate your techniques in my watercolour pieces.
Anna, with each video you bring joy, peace, inspiration, education and so much more! Thanks so much! Absolutely impressive work. I love how you manage layering the colors and gradually bringing contrast and harmony to the painting. Such an amazing master teacher. Much success and blessings.❤❤❤
This was an amazing tutorial on negative painting! I enjoyed painting along with you so much. I've always had a hard time thinking 'negatively' while painting ;) and this helped tremendously. I love my picture! Thank you Anna!
This is gorgeous! You have a unique style that is really quite fabulous. I am trying to learn watercolor, and I really appreciate you sharing your techniques and great tips with us! Thank you, so much!🌹
Corinne - thank you so much for your message! 💙 I really appreciate your feedback on the video quality as editing footage is the most time consuming thing for me 😊 it means a lot that you appreciate the effort and I feel encouraged to make more 😄
Thank you so much for helping me finally start to wrap my head around negative painting!! 💕😃 You have the best and most thorough explanation of this technique! 👍❤️😃
I am so glad 💜 I hope it comes in handy! I think especially for botanical paintings and any kind of backgrounds it's the easiest way to get smooth results. Enjoy!
Absolutely stunning. I have been taking watercolor classes for a few years. I’ve been drawn to pours with masking off each dried value layers. Building darker values on top, masking, pouring until the darkest layer. I was been disappointed when removing the masking material since it lifts paint. I’m really interested in this technique. I will give it a try. Thanks for sharing your artwork.
Thank you for sharing, Anna! Everything about this video is perfect...detailed description, soothing voice over, editing, speed of demonstration, decisive execution, etc. You're very talented...your artwork is so elegant and beautiful! 💜 Luv luv luv
Thank you so much for your feedback (sometimes I am self conscious about my voice because English is not my 1st language) this was an older video that seem to generate a lively discussion and I recently did a more detailed real-time follow up class using just leaves 😊 have a wonderful day!
So beautifully illustrated along with your commentary and explanations. Makes me want to try watercolor painting. It always seems so difficult. You make it look easy but I know it's because you're a pro. Wonderful!
I am so glad that i came across this video. . I love watercolour but was doin great with it. Finally i can learn and improve. . thnx so much..❤️ Blessings to you❤️💓🎨
Wonderful! I am intrigued by the concept of negative painting. It all makes so much sense when I watch you paint. Not so much when I'm sitting in front of my own paper. LOL! I think a lot of practice will help my brain grasp the concept. I now see that part of my problem is going too dark early on. Thank-you so much!
Thank you so much Lisa! 💜 Yes, it definitely took me a few paintings to get used to, but it gets easier and more fun the more you practice :))) Have a wonderful day and thank you for visiting my channel!
I really appreciate how you display start and finish side by side, that way we can know the goal as we go along. Great negative painting tutorial. Thank you so much!
Thank you again for an amazing tutorial Anna! I really really love this one. And the outcome is mesmerising. It's almost a dreamy fairytale visualisation. Can't wait to try this technique, as I just received a lot of amazing DS, QOR & arches birthday presents 🎉✨🌺 I'm a big fan! I'm teaching myself to paint following your very elaborate, versatile and clear tutorials. Thank you for making and sharing these 🙏🏻❤️
GREETINGS Anna, from The Land of 10,000 LAKES, Minnesota. I am totally blown away by your skill with watercolor. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE ONLY BEEN PAINTING WITH WATERCOLOR FOR ONLY 10 YEARS. I WOULD BE REALLY INTERESTED IN SEEING SOME OF YOU OLDER BEGINNING ATTEMPTS WITH WATERCOLOR PAINTING. CAN YOU POST A TIMELINE OF YOUR PAINTING PROGRESSION. I THINK THAT WOULD BE REALLY INTERESTING TO ME AND THE REST OF YOUR FANS! THANKS 😊
What a great suggestion Rhonda! I will definitely do a “run through” my old work (especially now that I am taking a few weeks off doing new work due to health issues - not sure if you saw my latest post regarding this). I am going to have fun digging through my archives - really appreciate you sharing this idea 😊 have a wonderful week ahead!
@@AnnaBucciarelli I hope you get well soon. I just found you. I want to learn watercolor, I am an Artist, who had a hand injury 20 years ago and lost the fine motor skills in my dominant hand. I loved calligraphy. Now, I feel inspired to try watercolor. I used to do oils a long time ago. I am just checking out videos and learning as much as I can from other Artists. I'm so grateful for you sharing your lovely videos. Thank you.
This wonderful tutorial has given me the confidence I need to tackle the background of a hibiscus flower that I have painted but have been afraid to take the next step on. I'm looking forward to coming back to this one when our nasturtiums bloom, that will be more like September for me. Thankyou for your generosity.
Your comment made me so happy! 😊This is the reason why I started UA-cam in the first place - to share these things I’ve learned along the way in a way that makes sense for botanical Watercolorists primarily - that make it possible to create new and exciting botanical work! 💙💙💙 thank you!
It's so relax to watch you paint. I love your tutorials. Also love you put a after picture on every step. Very helpful for beginner or who afraid of using wet on wet technique, like me XD

I agree. I don't like masking fluid. It's Messy many times. I like your negative technique ❤❤❤
You are a fabulous teacher! I love the way you explain techniques and especially when you show stages of the paining side-by-side. Thank you so much!
Also, thanks for the transcripts. Because of them I can focus entirely on the video and then use the transcripts later to make a summary of key points for me to learn.
Wow that’s awesome, negative space is kinda like painting backwards. It gives so much depth. I love it.
That’s such a good way of describing it 😊 painting backwards and planning shapes in reverse - exactly! 👌💕💕💕
You have a beautiful soothing voice, and a great teacher, thank you
The color harmony in this painting is amazing 🤩
19:41 I was blown away by the leaf on the right suddenly popping out from the shadows!! I'd love to see the rest of your videos!!
