It’s not “E-Zest”, it’s “E-Z-Est” as in “Easiest”.
I only dipped bullion to remove finger prints or other surface contaminants but i like to use a real weak solution and i use the water from my condensor to rinse the coin. What about the baking soda and aluminium foil reaction for removing toning. Removes copper spots from gold well.
I wonder why everyone pronounces it E-Zest? It's pronounced E-Z-est as in... "easiest" Coin Cleaner.
What we think of toning is subjective. It depends on the person but you'll find someone who wants that jewelry box Morgan just the way it is.
Years ago, a person put round adhesive taps on a bunch of pennies with the dates written on them, probably to identify it better. Over the years the taps came off leaving behind the old adhesive that wouldn't come off no matter how I tried. I used vinegar, lemon juice, even a cleaner for precious metals, nothing worked. Sixty unidentifiable coins in a bowl, I accidentally dropped a cheap water soluble paint stripper on them and in minutes they were clean. Some laid in it longer but eventually they were all cleaned and the stripper wasn't changed in color. I ran each penny under water and let dry on a paper towel, no rubbing at all. They are all in fine shape, not shinny, some still have the old patina but otherwise in good shape. Try it.

The only time you should use that stuff is to get the PVC coating off silver coins . And never soak it . Dip it , rub off under running filtered water.
If you want a tarnish remover that won't kill you mix 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1tbsp salt, and enough flour to make a thin paste paint it on with a paintbrush let stand 15 to 20 minutes and tarnish is gone. Can be used on silver brass anything tarnished.
I have a lot of experience with that when I first started collecting the way I do it were gloves dip the 999 silver coin rinse well let it dry or pat dry thanks for the info on the distilled water mix never tried it that way before do not put penny's in it sometime I will use a Qtip for the edge of the coin I had a lot of trial an error with that
I have a peace dollar I just bought, it is a high grade but there is something spilled on it like coffee, some smudge. Can I use e.z.est on it?
Probably, if you watch CoinHelpU’s video on how to restore those and follow his steps, it think it would turn out very well!!!
I would use aluminum foil in a Tupperware, line the whole tray, add baking soda and warm water, and a pinch of salt.
The electrolysis will remove toning, dirty grime, and won't damage the coin

I had a jar of that and used it to clean pennies before melting. All cleaners are acidic. Some take more time than others. Be it vinegar or out and out acids.A good bunch of info today bud.Too bad about the Totem. I have many of them and would NEVER clean them.
Would windex do the same? Which o haven't tried. But if so, Will it take away the original shine? I don't know so I'm asking. Thanks

I tried to clean actual coins it doesn't work. Maybe on silver coin do the job.
I am confused..you show all these coins all shiny and clean and say there MS 68 worth thousands of dollars....and an ugly coin MS 58.. worth 60 bucks....we pullout coins with gum, tar, grease, sweat etc on them and were not suppose to clean them ??? Then spend money to PCGS FOR GRADING to get a MS58 score??? So do we clean or not ? Another question , do the coin gurus receive money from PCGS for recommending them for grading and if so should they post a disclaimer? Just questions I have and I mean no disrespect.
Most coin stores dip coins. Most coin stores will tell you to not dip coins, even though they do it themselves. This makes their coins look better than your coins, and thus easier to sell.
I used boric acid to clean dirty change. Not good for modern coins

That Morgan was fine with the tone a really black coin needs cleaning .there's a diamond product will restore the luster on an over dipped coin 🤠
How many times can u dip a single coin?
If i use a wipe for cleaning can be a problem to send to PCGS to grade????🤔
On an MS or Proof coin, the wipe may leave a scratch. On a circulated coin, they'll never be able to tell.

Some coins are worthless unless you clean them. Like many I find while metal detecting.
It’s subjective Pcgs dips them then slab them without the clean label
I use silver jewelry cleaner to dip coins because it comes with a dip pan and it's far less acidic than EZ-ZEST. I've ruined many coin using EZ-ZEST because at the time I didn't know I needed to delute it with 50% water. Draped Bust dollars should never be dipped as it lowers the value because collectors don't want a white coin. Over dipped coins are also known as burnt coins because they look lifeless as the original surface has been completely destroyed. When you get into collecting older coins you need to know a lot more about it than just the grade on the slab. Most modern coin collectors don't have the patience to learn about older coins.

When I treat a coin with MS70 I rinse off the coin with water from a muti-pure water filter on my sink. Is it OK to rinse off a coin this way?

If you grabbed your pennies out of pocket change, don't worry about it. They are already scratched and the baby wipes won't hurt them.

I hear you talking of etching... have you ever tried nicadate? My son has a ton of poor Indian heads and wants to complete his set for completion sake and we were looking for it but I can’t seem to find it anymore. What are your thoughts on it and have you ever yourself used it?
BlueRidgeSilverhound yeah I figured you were talking about this product that it only is to be used in extreme cases in these cases as you mentioned coins with melt value. Nickels themselves when don’t have the date really haven’t a value but as place holders so I was wondering your personal opinion on that. But I know a lot of people who think it’s destroying the coin but then one has to ask themselves how to destroy a coin with no value at least as a holder it has a value of sort. Thanks.

Only dip it for 6 seconds double rinse. Says 15 but 6 and maybe 6 again then double rinse.
Wonderful information as always I recently had some experiences with that same cleaner I tried and my nephew was with me and he dropped a silver quarter in there and it was in for about a minute and a half before it was taken out in full strength it did clean the quarter like you said it took the finish right off of it now it looks White like if you were looking at Silver under tissue paper it is that kind of white. Good information as always thank you for sharing your knowledge also what is your opinion on the dried baking soda for cleaning coins silver particular I have not tried it but I see a lot of people use it on Silver because it is supposedly safer and less damaging
You obviously did not read the instructions as they say to dip a coin for 10 to 15 seconds and then rinse under running water, not a minute and a half! Baking soda is an abrasive and will scratch the surface of a coin.
Can you take a coin to your local coin shop and hire them to dip it?

Thiourea is nasty stuff. I used a cleaner once that had it...ruined a low grade Walking Liberty Half with it. It gives off sulfur gas when u use it, that's why it stinks. But yes, permanently etches the surface of coins and gives un-natural tone.

I believe this is called dipping. A no no with graders.
Dip a silver coin in E Z est for ten seconds and then rinse under running water and pat dry with a soft cloth towel. PCGS and NGC will not be able to tell that you removed some of the toning / tarnish.
I just clean them with a soft eraser, I can see the date, hope I didn't harm them
An eraser is abrasive and will scratch the surface of the coin.
Soft white erasers, will positively absolutely leave behind micro scratches, therefore damaging your coin
