    Wonderful! Just finished your lessons for Cripple creek! Still working a bit on my slides/speeding up the tempos but I can slowly play the entire song without any mess-ups! Great video Jim, I was just watching The Andy Griffith show and there were the "Darlings" (Dilliards) getting ready to play a tune with Andy and the one they picked was Dooley! I let that sink in for a few minutes and realized that "Hey, I bet Jim Pankey has the video on this one and !!!...BAMM....!!! here it is, just in time too. I did notice that you play it in "G" and their banjo player was capo'd up 4 frets, a key of "B" I believe. I figure you did it that way so as to make it a little less crapped up so it's easier to teach 😂

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  3 роки тому +1

      It's rare for me to teach something with the capo on. I figure you can capo it to suit your own voice. For me, G is the right key.

    You do Thomas Land proud 😊 I've always wanted to learn banjo and I think because of your videos I'm just gonna buy one. Been a guitarist for about 20 years but I think banjo is only mildly similar. It seems to be in a class all its own and I'd like to utilize the internet and your videos to not just learn how to play the banjo but to learn about its roots and culture.
    I used to live in East Tennessee off and on almost 10 years total over the course of my life and as a traveling man I've always had a soft spot for the Appalachians even though the laws out there are questionable 😅.

    My pinky knuckle locks up and I’m having trouble stretching it over the C chord shape during the chorus, then having trouble bringing my pinky backwards after. I injured my left arm years back and still have nerve damage down my arm. Is that it or is it just because I’m new and need to stretch my hand and practice? My wife could do the positioning without even trying. But I have to push my hand til it hurts, and make a ridiculous face.

    Jim,
    I am having major trouble trying to sing the song to this song after I have learned to play it. Is this the Dooley that is on the Andy Griffith show?
    If so I can't figure how to sing the part at the beginning "Dooley was a good ole man
    He lived below the mill
    Dooley had two daughters
    And a forty-gallon still"
    Could you help?

  • @wallacelayman7551
    @wallacelayman7551 4 роки тому

    Jim, so for the entire song, is the Chorus what needs to be played? Aside from the very beginning, and then we are able to sing the song to the second part you taught us?
    Thank you.

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  4 роки тому +1

      So... Don't teach a "break" for the verse portion of the song because there's not banjo break there. Just play the chords. Also... the banjo break is just the first bit of this. Refer to the Dillards (Darling Family) version. You "could" sing the verse to the kickoff portion since it covers the same changes.
