We moved from Colorado in 2017. Colorado is one of the states that allows an exchange for a French driving license. I did laugh that I could drive in France longer than my visa lasted!
Thank you for this video Diane. The whole video I really enjoyed especially when you talked about your favourite places to visit. And, I found it really interesting when you described the best way to talk to someone when you need to get something done. It made me smile, as I have worked with many doctors and there are certain (old school) doctors you have to talk in such a way that you get them to think your idea is theirs. Lol Thank you again Diane. I always value your honest, kind, and detailed answers. Hope you and your husband have a great day! Best wishes. 🇨🇦 🇫🇷
I think 16 states in the US have driver's licence reciprocity agreements with France. In this case you simply exchange your American driving licence for a French one without retaking the tests, with the associated costs and risks to fail! If you plan to relocate in France you can drive with your American licence (from any state) for 1 year. After 1 year you'll have to either exchange it or retake all the tests in France and get a French licence. Note that with a French licence you can relocate anywhere in the EU without having to exchange your licence ever; you may choose to do it but it is strictly voluntary, no obligation.
J'ai découvert le Morvan récemment. C'est très calme, agréable, avec de jolies villes anciennes (Autun). Et les gens sont plus calmes que dans mon coin (Orléans). Sinon, j'adore la Manche.
Hi Diane. Another brilliant video. As we have been all over France several times we love the Dordogne, Carcassonne, Arles, Carmague, Nimes, Avignon, Aix, Nice, St Paul de Vence, and perched/mountain villages, Menton, Gordes area just to name a few. My hubby is a WWI historian so have spend much time in eastern France as well. Have not done Xmas markets but think we have been pretty blessed regardless. The Cote d'Azur is by far our most favorite place. Also really love the 4 t-shirts from your product page that came very quickly.
so i wrote a book for high schoolers going off to college and one of the big things i'm big on is getting involved. and just like you said, especially with teens, people tend to make their friends when they're young and going away to college really throws you for a loop. all of a sudden you have to make friends or else you just end up staying in your room. i encourage people to go out there especially during welcome week when clubs are out there recruiting. find something you're interested in. talk with others in class. making friends can be hard especially if you're an introvert. if you ask someone how do you make friends, you probably get a blank face for a bit because we forget. i had a hard time freshman year until i came to the realization that it's going to be up to me to make that effort. haha decades later, it's become a lot easier to put myself out there!
Hi!! Thanks! YES!!! The approach… so important…!!!… they hate any kind of criticism… but.. it IS their sense of humor … taking the piss out of others…😂😳🙄 Have a great day!
You mentioned Amboise . I love Amboise. I love the Loire. Amboise is not too big and not too small I’ve been there thrice and I hope to go back next year.
I used wire transfer about 20 years ago to buy a book from a German seller. The seller was someone I knew about and I had no problem but I wouldn't do a wire transfer today without a lot of checking.
Bonjour. I'm honored that you read my question. Small smaller cities on the Loire are on my wish list. I'll be in Paris in Nov and we're taking the TGV to Strasbourg for 3 days...going to the Christmas Market. Very excited. I too love Brittany. I've visited Dinan, St Malo, and Mont St Michel. The beaches of Normandy are amazing...I have a great uncle buried in the American cemetary. Btw, my regular posting name is Dev5963 but not when I post from my phone. We're looking for a way to retire to France but it's not easy...and my French is bad. Your channel is by far my favorite since it's about everyday life in France, the good and bad. Not something that is glamorized to get views. Merci.
Hello Diane. Another excellent video. On my last trip to France i visited the D’orsey museum. I took a cab from the stand Tesla 3 with a seemingly pleasant driver. My destination was under 3 kilometers (my feet were aching). The fee was 8.10 euros. He said he didn’t have change or a 20 so I paid by master card. He said it didn’t go through and ran it through again, gave me a receipt for 8.10 euros and left. I checked my inline account and sure enough I was charged 810 euros. The bank (Barclay) thought it was a decimal point error and it would be corrected. Despite providing a copy of the receipt and a written narrative, the cab vendor which was with Square insisted my card was used with a valid chip but the location was on the right bank. 7 months later a customer service representative located in the US determined I was charged twice. The driver first rang up 810 euros and next 8.10 which produced the receipt. I was the second customer that week who was cammed by taxi drivers in Paris. (His was $500.00 for a brief ride too) Lesson learned, Uber or pay by cash and always get a receipts and check your card accounts daily no matter what you use it for. Thank you. Joe and Gigi.
I'm so sorry that happened, Joe. I hope your bank refunded you since it was obviously a fraudulent charge. But I know you had a great trip overall so atleast there's a silver lining.
Tysm for your answer, Diane 💐😊 With my question on the self care scene, I was thinking how in America, "self care" can be spun as woo woo and consumerist, like with ✨energy cleansing crystals✨ and doing a face mask haul to spoil yourself. It sounds like the French lean more skeptical in their base attitude than us bubbly Americans, plus with slow living not being a trend to them but a lifestyle, I wondered how their approach to self care might differ 💝 Thank you for your thoughts, I always enjoy 🙏👑
In Canada we have online money transfer from your bank, you send the money by email or text then the other person deposits the money into their account.
The divers license do expire now in France. Mine expires is 2030. It depends on what year you got yours and the format of it. If it is a small plastic card like the American ones it does expire. it is the old paper one, it does not expire.
Bonjour Diane, thank you for a very insightful video. I totally missed the call for questions, but I do have one that I’m curious about. What language do you dream in?
You're very welcome! Mostly English although I've had a few French dreams here and there... although my first one was maybe a couple of years ago. And 95% of my dreams aren't set in France.
I was just in France and I sadly got scammed by a fake taxi. He tried to charge me €150 euros for going 15 miles. All I had was 100 euros. I’m lucky I got my bags back. I felt so stupid and angry
Tom aurait dû prévenir Diane que certains français risquent de faire des vannes douteuses au sujet de la ville qu'elle n'aimerait pas visiter à nouveau...
William from Canada. Honest question here...do you have any misgivings living in France with all the political turmoil it is experiencing and by extension, all of Europe? A Bien Tot!
Have you gotten another dog or cat since the one you had? I’m asking cause there’re SO MANY ANIMALS IN SHELTERS NEEDING HOMES!!! Many get euthanized cause so many people don’t adopt them. Please do something about this.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hello, Dagny was my heart and soul and not replaceable. Respectfully, there are many valid reasons why someone would choose to adopt a pet (or not). We have no plans of getting a pet but glad that you've been able to adopt some furry friends. ;-)
Great video, as always. If you know anything about the French citizens marriage, I’d be interested in hearing that in your Part 2. I’ve been married to a 🇫🇷citizen for many years. My language level is B1 & I hear the new immigration law going into effect within the next year will require B2. 🥹 I’ll be working on it, but the step up from B1 to B2 is huge.
Hi there, Part 2 is already filmed and all about language-related stuff (I plan several weeks in advance) but I'll keep it in mind for next time ;-) I'd recommend applying for citizenship now then!

Hello! A frenchwoman here. Consider visting the Cevennes, my région, quite a picturesque région you should enjoy.

Love how candid this video was. Why can't all UA-cam videos be this great? Can't wait for part 2.
Visited Corsica the year I graduated and fell in love with this beautiful island. I was there a month and I dream of returning some day!

I appreciate your attitude about the differences and inconveniences which would serve anyone living anywhere abroad well.

Ooh, I had the same response to Beziers. Just didn't feel comfortable there. Very pretty place, historically interesting but not in a hurry to return

Hi, We’re fellow Americans who’ve just bought our house in Saumur. 🙌 We’re kind of voisins 😊 You’re right, the Loire Valley is simply magical.
HI Sandra, congrats! I love Saumur but haven't been there in ages. Enjoy!!
You mentioned Amboise . I love Amboise. I love the Loire. Amboise is not too big and not too small I’ve been there thrice and I hope to go back next year.
Waouh... Bretagne is also my favorite place to be if you want to relax, take it easy and breath... Thanks to answer my question😜
You're very welcome!
@@OuiInFrancemy husand is from there, we go every year. I am going to tell him that you like it.

Bonjour Diane. I lived in Porto Vecchio, Corsica for 2 years. 🇺🇸🤝🇫🇷 I was an "assistant de langue" there too!
SUCH a beautiful place!!

I very much enjoy the channel!
Thank you, glad you're here!

Very informative video. My mother had a green thumb, but I'm also a plant killer, so we have something in common. 😂
Thank you 😊

I particularly always enjoy your emphasis on cultural systems being DIFFERENT from each other, and NOT better/worse.
Love your new specs ;)
Thanks, I've had 'em a couple of years. I have a bunch of pairs of glasses that I rotate between. They're a fun accessory!
