OCLP has made this SO easy now. I updated a number of unsupported Macs last night and today. Every single one updated seamlessly. Follow directions. Update patcher, apply patches, click on software update on Mac, let it run and Boom - done. The patcher is so easy to use now - such great work, that I made a donation - you should too. The Mr. Macintosh videos make it almost fool proof! If you still can't make it work I suggest chewing on the green crayon.
Runs like a charm. Computer runs like a charm. It’s criminal apple doesn’t upgrade machines that are perfectly usable for many years to come. Even with a “lighter” version of the software perhaps. I could afford to upgrade but I believe in using these things until they are completely broken or beyond their useful life.
before Christmas i done a trade and got a mac mini 2011. updated it to big sur with the patcher and then to Monterey. when i checked for update it gave me the Sonoma 14.2.1 update. it works great. i am very new to mac os.
I am happy to say, that I just updated successfully my Macbook Pro 10.2 (early 2013) I first updated OCLP to version 1.3.0 and for safety sake I downloaded the KDK Kernel_Debug_Kit_14.2_build_23C64.dmg prior and installed it while the download process of 14.2 starter from system setting was in process. This is the first time, I succeeded updating my unsupported Mac from Sonoma 14.1.1 and had no issues during the update. Before I had always install Catalina first, before installing from an USB stick installer. Have to add, that I connected a LAN adaptor and did not rely on a working WIFI connection. At the end everything went well.
Thank you for the detailed video Have a late 2013 iMac and 2012 Mac mini. Pre installed the new KDK’s first then updated both machines. Both machines updated to 14.2 flawlessly
To whom it may concern: I updated my late 2012 Mac Mini (was running OCLP 1.3.0 already) successfully to Sonoma 14.2.1 - as usual, it needed a manually started root patching via OCLP and another reboot before everything was up and going again. But now it‘s fine. ✌🏻
I am gonna wait with my 14.3 imac. Despite the previous update having introduced an old bug again. Sometimes after hibernating bluetooth isnt working. I use an extra mouse with usb dongle to toggle bluetooth off/on so the apple keyboard and magic mouse work again. Hope this is solved (again) in 14.2.
Last night I updated OCLP to v1.3.0 via a prompt at startup, then updated to OS Sonoma 14.2 on my late 2013 iMac 27" (14,2). For some reason I lost my WIFI connection after installation and reboot, but this may have just been coincidental, as when rebooted my router everything worked just fine again. Other than that, no issues other than the usual sluggish response for the first few hours, which I assume is due to Search re-indexing.
Yeah, this one is well worth doing. Also the new Ventura update fixed a lot of my slow down issues I was having in my Dolby ATMOS Music studio here. Thanks for your great reviews, which are the best I've found!!
Yet another great video. last update really played with my video playback in safari to where youtube videos won't play unless I restart. Hoping this update resolves some of those issues.
So I installed OCLP 1.3. Downloaded 14.2. Started installing. Rebooted a couple of times. Now I am staring at blank screen for 30 minutes, with my keyboard lit. This is on MacBook Air 2014. I will let it stay overnight FWIW, but looks like it is botched right now.
Every time I do an update on my late 2015 iMac the process hangs at about 10%. I end up restarting and then everything seems to go smoothly. I’m always holding my breath and praying for a good outcome. I’m on 14.2 now.
Works great. Seems to have fixed a little graphics glitch I was having with the last build as well. iMac 13,2. One little warning to all users though. I needed to run a windoze program so decided to use BootCamp ( this was before this update). Somewhere in that process the EFI Bootloader got deleted. So, no boot. And you cannot use macOS recovery to fix this. Luckily I had kept a usb drive with a Monterey installer created by OCLP back when Monterey was new. Apple's Volume system meant that I could install this alongside the other OS I have. This brought back the EFI bootloader and all was good. Few nasty moments there though.
💡Tip: Before updating Sonoma, I recommend disabling the live wallpaper & screen saver. On my iMac 17,1, if the screen saver kicks in _after_ the update but _before_ installing the root patches, my system will hang with a black screen, beach ball, and fans blaring. Although holding down the power button to hard-reboot, recovers the system, I rather avoid. I'm not always there on the final restart to catch it before the screen saver kicks in.
Hey Mr. Macintosh Thank you and the OCLP-Team for your hard work. Very much appreciated. My MacBook Pro 15" mid 2015 works great with Sonoma 14.2.1 with the help of OCLP 1.3.0. except for Apple Keynote. Keynote (both 12.2.1 and13.2) crushes every time I start the presentation or view an animation in the preview. Keynote did work fine under Ventura on this machine. Is this a known problem and is there a fix for it?
Hello, I have a MacBookAir 7.2, a 2015 model, upgraded to a Sonoma 14.2, and WiFi has not been showing up properly. Looking for a solution or video instruction, thanks!
Hi sir! im trying to upgrade my old Macbook air late 2009 2gb ram (El capitan 10.11.6 update). I trying so hard install BigSur 11 with no success. Can u give some suggestion please or recommended OS for this old Macbook air? Thanks! you are the best on yt by far!!
My macbook pro 2017(14,1) was updated Sonoma(from Vantura to14.1 to 14.2 ) . When I closed the screen(Not shutdown), the next day I lifted the screen and the system restarted. It never appeared before.
Hello, thank you in advance for everything. I have a Mid2010 macbook pro laptop. I upgraded it to MacOS Sonoma with OCLP with your videos. But Bluetooth does not appear and therefore does not work. What can I do to make it work? I am writing from Turkey. I wrote it using translate. Sorry if I made any mistakes. Thanks.
It was working great than 14.2 happened. Im on Mac mini 2012 later version. Wifi would not connect. Something happened, had to restore to mountain lion. Mountain lion works BUT safari doesnt. Even on LAN google search shows results but clicking on anything from the results does not connect. I just spent 3 days trying to restore with open core but no luck. Im at a stand still.
i have done everything "correctly" latest everything on my iMac 2017 but all i get on reboot with alt key is a padlock icon and a field for a passcode but I never set this? getting frustrated now. 3rd time creating an installer.
MBP 8,3 upgraded smooth as butter... except the time without root patches after installation. It was painfully slow but with patches everything is good again. MBA is still wip
Hi mate, would you be able to make a video on how to uninstall OCLP? I have it on my old Macbook Air and can't find an easy guide on how to uninstall anywhere.
Hello, Mr. Macintosh. Thank you for an update. For those who are on Monterey 12.7.1. and OPLC 1.3.0: is it safe to update to 12.7.2 via Apple Software Update?
I updated to Sonoma 14.2, but the touchbar is now different. I mean the touchbar won’t change when i open a different app. I use excel a lot and the touchbar won’t give my excel tools, it stays the same with its original tools as if i had no app open.
Can someone kindly guide me on how to upgrade MacBook Pro late 2016 with Touch Bar. I am afraid of losing the Touch Bar or Touch ID, I am currently having OCLP 13, and having Ventura 13.5 installed. I am facing some issues now with inability to download and install any app from the App Store, unable to update any app through the App Store, and I want to do clean install to Sonoma 14.2 using the OCLP but my main concern is the loss of Touch Bar functionality. Thanks for whoever considering to help. I appreciate it.
Hi Mr.Macintosh. Thanks to your guide I've installed 14.2 on my 2012 15 inch MBP. Everything is fine but system loading time. I remember @10.15.7 starting time was like 20secs. @14.2 starting time is significantly longer - ca.60 secs. Is there any opencore option to make system loading faster?
Late 2012 27 inch iMac was ok without any problem. A root patch needed to apply and after the reboot everything is working good. However, ones all the running application was quit, even the finder, was no response, and had have to restart with the long press of the power button. It happend few times with the previous versions of Sonoma, but after it works good. It's also important to install the OCLP 1.3.0 first, and only after the 14.2 update.
I'm stuck in the logic page after updating it loads to upto 40% and then stops can anyone print me in the right direction, ive tried everything, i dnt have a spare Mac
Two items. First, I can't get the battery level to display on the top row in 14.2 as it did in 14.1.2. Second, I tried making a comment on this video on the MacBook Pro running 14.4 with Firefox Browser 120.0.1 and it didn't recognize the space key. I typed the exact same message into Safari version 17.2 and it worked fine. This message was typed on my MacPro5,1 running Monterey 12.7.1.
MacBook Air 2017 (i5 old base model; MacBookAir7,2) 2. OCLP 1.2.1 -> 1.3.0 3. Updated all apps 5. Sonoma 14.1.2 -> 14.2 (from System Preferences) 6. Installed it to disk (OCLP pop-up window as usual) 7. Post-Install Root Patch 8. OCLP -> Settings -> Disabled “Show OpenCore Boot Picker” and set “Boot Picker Timeout” to “0” 9. “Build and Install” again It all went smooth no problems ✅ AirDrop, Bluetooth, Wi-FI, Night Shift, Sound, iCloud… everything works for me. Only thing that doesn’t seem to work is Xcode running code… (btw I am on the newest build. I’ll try reinstalling to see if it works).
@suflaj9314 Thank you for the report! I'm glad everything went good for your MacBook Air! I used to disable show boot picker every time but for some reason I stopped and now leave it on haha.
Hello, I have a MacBook Pro 17 inch late 2011 with High Sierra OS, and I tried to upgrade to Sonoma via opencore 1.2.1 and 1.0.1 but unfortunately it stuck so can you please tell me which opencore should I use for my upgrade considering that it’s a 17 inch late 2011. Thank you.
I have a mac mini 6,2 with dual ssd's, was running very well with Ventura, Failed twice installing the Sonoma. It seems to be setup but suddenly apps stop responding and then keyboard doesn't get a reaction. Wondering if dual SSD is confusing the OCLP setup process. I tried installing when first available and got same symptoms. I always dedicate the second ssd for carbon copy cloning of the other ssd.
I have installed OCLP 1.3.0 on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro running MacOs Monterey 12.7.1. Then I have asked MacOs update service to download v12.7.2. 12Gb later, I immediately have an error message saying that the update failed installing. I tried then the manual installation with the proper v12.7.2 14Gb file. The installation goes right but lasts 10 seconds. Like if Safari was the only update to be done. No system restart asked and still on 12.7.1 🤷🏼♂️. Anybody experienced the same issue ? Any advice to make in run ? Merci !
InDesign still isn't fully compatible with Sonoma (or, to be more accurate, Apple still didn't fix their bugs that prevent InDesign from working properly on Sonoma under some conditions). Although if you're an InDesign user you already know this anyway.
Hello Mr. Macintosh, I have a favor / video request. I’ve followed your videos to learn how to update my 2015 MacBook Air to Sonoma 14.1.2, but your only video concerning unlocking Universal Control was from a year ago. Could you please update that video and let us know how to spoof our Macs to a version that supports Universal Control using the new Opencore Legacy Patcher? Thank you in advance.
after installing the update, about 50% of my needed professional programs were removed from my macbook pro, and when i tried to reinstall, they either did not install at all or they run with corruption and crashes, when i called and did a screen share with an apple professional i received no help in fixing my issues and when they said it would take time for the system to restore and they would call me back, they did not, or maybe i should say i am still waiting they did not say they would call me back so a few days later i guess they are still correct that a "call back" is coming. For me in my work flow need, this was the worst update ever, just giving you "MY" side of this update
Hi @Mr.Macintosh, i updated macmini 6,1 to sonoma 14.2 with OCLP 1.3.0 , when i lock and unlock my mac is restarting and also on sleep wake, can you suggest any fix for this issue.
I tried 1.3.0 with Ventura 13.6.3 on my Late 2012 Mac Mini, installed the root patches, rebooted, but got the hanging up progress bar with no boot, I've reverted to OCLP 1.2.1 now after a very frustrating number of hour's getting the MM to run again. Not sure why this happened??
(Hello, thank you in advance for everything. I have a Mid-2011 21,5" iMac. I upgraded it to MacOS Sonoma with OCLP with your videos. But Bluetooth does not appear and therefore does not work. My 2013 15 inch MBP is on 14.1.1 it runs better now then it ever did on big sir. There is absolutely no reason apple doesn’t support these older Mac’s. Only to sell new machines. Apple should be ashamed of themselves
Can we get a command line/Terminal UI version of OCLP? Each time I upgrade my iMac it runs at 0.5fps, and it feels even worse when I remote desktop into it. It is so infuriating trying to enter long passwords to login and to just even open OCLP, and then it wants to restart to run with escalated privileges and I have to enter the long password again. I want to be able to SSH into my iMac with my pubkey authentication and just run the root patches from there using sudo. This way I can avoid having to remote desktop into it and dealing with the excruciatingly slow graphics upon upgrading. Would you kindly pass this suggestion on to the devs?
So I have had mixed success on updates and had to go back the USB route. Can someone confirm this procedure. First install OCLP 1.3 Then install to EFI of Hard Disk Then reboot and hold Ctrl button to select OCLP EFI. Then reboot normally. Then download 14.2 and simply double click to install and it should work?
Does anyone experience bugs with all recent macOS versions with the mouse cursor? Seems to do it on all desktop macs. When I use Photoshop and then use a web browser I no longer get the hand cursor when I hover over links. In Finder I get the side stretch mouse cursor rather than the pointer. Really wish they’d fix this. Also find there’s no way to change the font size in open / save dialogues. Minor things but I really wish they’d solve.
[Mid-2015 MBP] After updating to OCLP 1.3.0, I tried 'update now' from system preferences for updating 14.0 to 14.2. However, the OCLP pop-up for downloading new KDKs did not occur, even after I few minutes. Out of an abundance of caution, I cancelled the 14.2 download. Is there a way to manually install the new KDKs if OCLP isn't detecting it?
Macbook pro 10,2 early 2013 I was running Sonoma 14.1.2 with OCLP 1.3.0 I created a bootable installer of Sonoma 14.2 with OCLP 1.3.0 just in case OTA update didnt work. I also downloaded KDK manually. I did the OTA update and I get stuck with progress bar at 40%. Then I tried to reinstall 14.2 using the usb I had created. The same result. Entering 14.2 in Recovery mode stucks also. I entered in 14.2 Recovery Mode using the usb and I was able to. Then I mounted my disk and blessed last snapshot. No errors. But when I restart again the stuck progress bar. I have a Time Machine with my system and data when I was using 14.1.2 and I have also a Catalina USB installer, but this later option would make me completely erase the HD first. Could anyone help me? I don’t know what to do.
Solved. Although Recovery Mode didn’t work: black screen and it finally reboot backing to the stuck bar; SAFE MODE did work. Just pressed SHIFT for a long time during reboot and that solved the problem. I hope future updates will be flawless 😅
I did updates with no problem but after update I can not tether my nikon z camera to the capture one or lighroom! Is there a big change on hardware firmware update or something? Before 14.2 and 1.3.0 was working!
Hello @arash7even , the update should not have caused any issue but it is still possible. Does the Mac recognize the camera? Are you able to read and transfer from it ?
@@Mr.Macintosh Well I just did try with Capture one and lightroom tether option which I use to work with! But I notice that there is no connection at all between camera and computer since before update when I connected the camera it would start blinking the memory card inside camera that showed camera is trying to connect to a device! I have tried with 2 different camera body, cable and computer which all did not work after 14.2 and 1.3.0 update! But other devices live card reader or external hard drive works fine!
NOTE: For unsupported macs before updating, make sure you have the latest version of OCLP AND uninstall root patches to prevent to download a huge size for the update.

Absolutely! My battered late 2013 27" iMac actually runs as smoothly as it did orginally (perhaps even better!)

Merci !
Love these videos. Keep up the good work!
InDesign still isn't fully compatible with Sonoma (or, to be more accurate, Apple still didn't fix their bugs that prevent InDesign from working properly on Sonoma under some conditions). Although if you're an InDesign user you already know this anyway.
Im using Macbook air 2017 and I uninstalled opencore since I can't use my tplink ethernet usb dongle. Is it working in this update now?
Hello Mr. Macintosh,
I have a favor / video request.
Hey maybe I missed it in the video but is the recovery bug that exists in OCLP 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 fixed on 1.3.0 or does it still exist?
Great presentation! Thanks so much!
after installing the update, about 50% of my needed professional programs were removed from my macbook pro, and when i tried to reinstall, they either did not install at all or they run with corruption and crashes, when i called and did a screen share with an apple professional i received no help in fixing my issues and when they said it would take time for the system to restore and they would call me back, they did not, or maybe i should say i am still waiting they did not say they would call me back so a few days later i guess they are still correct that a "call back" is coming.
Would you recommend updating OCLP to 1.3.0 before updating to macos Ventura 13.6.3?
I tried 1.3.0 with Ventura 13.6.3 on my Late 2012 Mac Mini, installed the root patches, rebooted, but got the hanging up progress bar with no boot, I've reverted to OCLP 1.2.1 now after a very frustrating number of hour's getting the MM to run again. Not sure why this happened??
(Hello, thank you in advance for everything.
I have a Mid-2011 21,5" iMac. I upgraded it to MacOS Sonoma with OCLP with your videos. But Bluetooth does not appear and therefore does not work. What can I do to make it work? I am writing from indonesia. I wrote it using translate. Sorry if I made any mistakes. Thanks.
A1298 MBP 15 MID 2012, Did not work stayed freeze on black screen after installation.
My 2013 15 inch MBP is on 14.1.1 it runs better now then it ever did on big sir. There is absolutely no reason apple doesn’t support these older Mac’s. Only to sell new machines. Apple should be ashamed of themselves
Consider why Apple won’t sell touch capable laptops. $$$
Would you kindly pass this suggestion on to the devs?
do you know if OCLP will ever figure a way around egpu not haviung to be dual boot? thats the only reason why im not on ventura on my 2012 mac pro
So I have had mixed success on updates and had to go back the USB route. Can someone confirm this procedure.
First install OCLP 1.3
Then install to EFI of Hard Disk
Then reboot and hold Ctrl button to select OCLP EFI.
Then reboot normally.
Then download 14.2 and simply double click to install and it should work?
No one talks about OPCL not usable on macbook pro 7,1 mid 2010
what is your macOS size after update in storage?
im having issues with bluetooth 2.1 OEM card on imac 27 mid 2011 (i5, 2.7hz), can anybody help? bluetooth wont turn on
Does anyone experience bugs with all recent macOS versions with the mouse cursor?
How about updating OCLP For NVMe support macbookPro9,1 ....?🤷♂️ Thank You.
Oh this is interesting, are you talking about SATA to NVMe? Or is this something else ?
Installed IOS update after installing latest version of OCL on late 2012 Mac Mini 6. All is well!
I been commenting on these videos asking if someone can show me a safe way to update my mid 2012 macbook air from ventura to sonoma please
obs failed to initialize "invalid parameters", sonoma 14.2.1. M1

Macbook pro 10,2 early 2013
I was running Sonoma 14.1.2 with OCLP 1.3.0
I created a bootable installer of Sonoma 14.2 with OCLP 1.3.0 just in case OTA update didnt work.
I hope future updates will be flawless 😅
thanks, @@valorn76
@@Mr.Macintosh Fixed an issue where tethered cameras were not detected on macOS 14.2. new updates from Capture and Lightroom today!
great thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
It a normal thats i dont have Apple Watch Pay confirm and AirDrop on my iMac 2011 Sonoma ?
Hello @TipssDE if I remember correctly I think you need a 2012 or newer Mac for AirDrop etc.
@@Mr.Macintosh thanks! U are the best 💪🏻🫡

Hours later i managed it to reinstall
What happened?
@@soumyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa updated to14.2 after updating olp to 1.3.... and then I got Black screen... and I can't even reinstall my os now f****
@@Tachiguro You can unfu** it if you made an OCLP bootable usb.
@@kwiknip actually doing this now 😅
Oh no @Tachiguro! Were you able to rescue it? Did you try reverting the root patches?
going to give Sonoma a miss.... hopefully the next MacOS will be good
I'm taking his advice to wait until next year when Sonoma is stable.
NOTE: For unsupported macs before updating, make sure you have the latest version of OCLP AND uninstall root patches to prevent to download a huge size for the update.
