The technique probably, I mean it’s Velcro, it supposed to get stuck but if it’s getting tangled in them I’d just practice different techniques taking them off, I had that problem with Velcro rollers but then once I got enough practice with them they were a breeze
Make sure your hair is dry nearly completely if you don’t already. I would also put a detangler in your hair and brush it real good before you roll them. Then to take them out just be extra patient and gentle with your hair, roll in the opposite direction you rolled them in. Idk, some are just worse than others!
I sleep in a velcro roller in that position all night. When I get up, my hair has some volume at the roots, but no pretty curl like yours. And the volume might last till noon. 😢

Wash your hair, run whatever product you have on-hand through there, like a tiny bit of that cheap-ass walmart aloe vera gel -- the clear unscented one. Wrap your bangs around a toilet paper tube and secure it with 1-2 bobby pins. Then wait until it air dries. I've also used a banana and secured it with a bandana on top of my head. It was fine but kind of beat up the banana unnecessarily. Cool styling is better for your hair than heat. Broke bitches who aren't afraid to be a little creative can look just as nice. Who's going to know my curler was a cut up water bottle or a rinsed out can? That's behind the scenes. Just find something with the right circumference and a way to secure it. Check your recycling!

Try some flexi rods. They come in all sizes and easy to sleep in. I never have an issue
