The problem with such reviews is that it would make me buy the instrument instantly, but then I remember that it wouldn't sound anywhere as nice in my hands 😒... Great skills and very nice instruments, thanks for sharing!
Thx a lot for your kind words! You are right, the fingers are the biggest and most important part of the whole sound. BUT, an instrument has to give you all possibilities to develop feel for good tone and technique. And the Sires most definitely do that! For a very good price! Stay safe and healthy!
Just purchased me the Sire MM V7 2nd Generation 5 string. OMG. Only been playing 2 years so I'm mostly still a novice compared to all you others out there who have been playing for double digit years but I have two other basses which I started out playing and which I will not name and they just do not compare to the V7. All I can say is this is a great fantastic bass. The kind that makes you want to practice all day every day. A little on the heavy side than what I am use to but that I will deal with that. The sound and quality of the bass makes all the difference. I thought my other two basses sounded great until I heard the V7 coming out of my amp. I am now in the process of upgrading my other basses to get close as possible to the V7. It has inspired me to do that. What a bass.
Watching this in 2021, i ordered a V7 Vintage just this morning. I play bass just for fun and i'm not too good at it, i have a cheap but good Peavy Milestone that i bought 6 or 7 years ago, i don't have much time and mental will to practise anymore, but today i decided to make myself a gift in these dark times, and i bought a V7 instead of a V3 or a Harley Benton (that was my initial choices). I play occasionally with friends or alone, and i think that this new Marcus Miller V7 will give some nice chills down my spine when playing.
Man, you are such a great player! Your feel is wonderful. Such groove, I could listen to you all day. You must play in a lot of bands. We'll done, on such a great review. I'm buying one next week. Thanks for your amazing talent!!
What an amazing review, what an amazing bass, the most "Expensive" bass i have played is the Yamaha TRB505, i liked it but i really never fell in love with it and sold it, still playing my RBX774 made in Taiwan which i got for a $80USD 10 years ago in a pawn shop, i just ordered a Sire V7, im in love with its sound since i heard it at the Free Cover channel, sounds so good for latin music.
Hi there! Great! So glad to read, that my videos are of some help for some of you guys! :-) I´ve ordered my Sire online as well. I could have sended it back within 30 days, if I wouldn´t have like it! But man, I LOVE it! All the best, bro!
For $550 this is a great bass. I personally play a Music Man StingRay special 5hh. If was to purchase an affordable bass, I would totally buy this one. Having a pre-amp with that much control is helpful. Plus that green color is awesome.
Man, that part exactly at the 12:30 it just sounds so exquisit. I liked to much! I have some lyrics and will try to make a song with it. Great video, great review. I have a v9 and a fender MM. Greetings and we'll be in touch.
The screws for the battery cover could be improved by using press fit brass threads. Sire is the kind of company that will adjust this in their next ver. The cost of the threads is negligible but a very good update. Thanks for a very constructive and relevant review.
What a great review man! Congrats, you play so so so brilliant, I enjoyed a lot. I have a question for you. I'm thinking about getting a 1994 Fender Mexican JB for 500$ or this Sire V7. I'm really vonfused about it, could you help me? I play in a multi-genre band now. Thak you a lot!
Thx so much for your kind words. I'd take the Sire. With its excellent PUs and preamp, it's an extremely versatile bass. And playability is top notch as well! 👍😉
Thx a lot for your kind words. Your comment is highly appreciated! And isn't that Sherwood green just an amazing color? Have much fun with your beautiful instrument! All the best! 😀🙏🏻
beautiful bass I recently got myself a duesenberg triton gold top bass which cost a small fortune but now got my eye on this number which costs a quater of the triton, great playing btw great variety
Soundwise, the difference won't be huge. I would make the decision, based on your preferred color. However you'll decide, you'll love this bass. All the best, Pascal.
Thx a lot for your kind words, Roderick. A Stingray is always a great option, it's one of THE classic and iconic bass sounds. When I looked into buying a SR5, all instruments I came across were a bit too heavy for me. I finally found a used Ray35 by Sterling, which is extremely light and sounds fantastic. Have much success with picking a instrument that fits your needs. And please, stay safe and healthy.
I love the Sire basses and hope to own one soon, but I would love to see them try their hand at a straight up passive 70s style J Bass. They sound amazing but I personally do not enjoy having that many knobs and controls on my basses. Also I believe this would create a better instrument for less experienced players. Imagine the nightmare of someone playing their very first gig with a Sire bass and simply turning all the knobs to 10 because they don't know any better. Great video though, thanks for sharing
@@TheRainmanBachelor I've never played one myself, but I know a couple guys that use them regularly. From what I've gathered they're not somewhat heavy, but nothing crazy. I've seen online that they weigh between 9.5-10 lbs. I play a Stingray 5 mainly which is about 10-11 pounds usually, so I doubt I'd have a problem with them since I'm used to my bass. But it did take me some time to get used to it.
You can play it in all passive mode, and you'll still have tone for days. That's what I do most of the time. 😀 But its nice to have the control and the possibilities, if you need them. Thx a lot for watching and commenting. Stay healthy.
Hi Michael. Just stumbled on your channel in the search for V7 reviews. And what a great review you made. And boy, great playing there! I subbed of course straight away :-) I love the green color very much, but don't think they make the ebony version in green :-( If you have tried the ebony version, can you describe the difference? (I have a Fender J with a maple neck, so I'd like a bit darker sound on my next bass) Thanks again!
Asger H J Hey, bro! That’s cool, welcome to the channel! :-) Thx a lot for these kind words! Glad you’ve enjoyed my little review, I hope it was of some help for you! I haven’t played the ebony version yet. But I’ll probably get a burgundy mist 5-string with ebony board, early next year. :-) There should be a difference, but not a huge one. The character of the bass is most definitely a very open and modern sound, mostly due to the electronics and the PUs! All the best!
Hey Michael, great review to begin with, thanks a lot! I have been playing with a big band for a while and I have realized, that I have to change my bass. (I currently have a Harley Benton MB-4, don't get me wrong, a great bass, but it just doesn't really fit the vibe and in my opinion a jazz bass is a lot more versatile, which can come in handy for me) So I have done research and I was unsure if I should get me a Squier 60s Classic Vibe Jazz Bass or V7. I have played both Squier and MM before, but they were different models. (Affinity and V3 respectively.) With Squier I had a better neck feeling and liked playing it a little bit more, but I recently played a V5 and I liked it as well. Still, I am quite unsure.. Since you mentioned having both of the basses, can you help me please? Thanks a lot in advance!
Hi there! Thx a lot for your nice words! If I had to pick one, I'd personally go for the V7. But how one likes the feel, is purely personal taste. The Classic Vibe Squiers are amazing instruments (probably better in quality than some more expensive Fender offerings). And you will surely get a great bang for the buck. I love the pickups in the Sires, and especially the V7 is an extreme versatile instrument that offers everything from traditional vintage to super modern bass sounds. Maybe you could get used to the feel of the V7 neck...
Great playing. Very inspiring. Just ordered the same model, same colour earlier today at Thomann. For that price I will accept a bit of fret dressing. But let's see.
@@MichaelSchmittEleven I really like the feel, better than the gen 1 and it's got a sound of its own. The VV7 is similar, yet so different. I'll still be getting a gen 2, V7 because I like the voicing. Yours sounds like an Atelier Z!
Gerry926 Cool, be sure to grab one in these amazing custom colors, with matching headstock. They look so good! I love the Sherwood green on mine! All the best!
Get one, you won't regret it. The build quality is absolutely superb for the affordable price. But the playability and the sound are really top notch! 😀
Hi Micheal! Thanks, loved your video and love the way you play. One question: i heard SIRE basses are extremely heavy. Is 2nd gen improved on the weight? Thx bro
Thx a lot for your kind words! 2nd gen V7s definitely seem to be lighter! Mine is very light, and most others, I held in my hands, did feel the same! All the best & stay safe!
the flip battery compartment was actually a nightmare on the first, very easily fell apart. Not just me, a few guys I know, same thing. Had to go on utube to see if there was a way to fix it. Just a warning if anyone goes for a second hand one, check battery compartment:)
Great review. I got the 5-string lefty version of this bass. I've still to do a vid on my channel too. Great playing and review! The feel of the Sire basses really is something. Love the matte finish. I'm tempted to get the burgundy as a fretless.
DiceBass90 Yeah, they burgundy looks so good, right? I’ll probably get a 5-string V7 next year in this color. Thx a lot fir your nice words! All the best & stay safe!
Hi, thanks for the great review! I thought about buying a squier CV JB but I think I will go with the V7. Unfortunately, I have no Option of trying it before buying (in Germany only available at thomann, not at music store). Ive read that quality really differs among induvidual models. Do you think I could bis one "blindly" If I like the squier Jazz Basses?
Hi there! The Sire basses are a fantastic bang for the buck. I'm pretty sure you'll love the V7. And if not, you can easily send it back. All the best & stay safe!
I love the passive mode. Actually, that’s what I use 90% of the time with this bass. It sounds extremely good and reacts so dynamically, all in passive mode. And thx a lot for these kind words! ;-)
Incredible playing. My only question is I'm having aa hard time distinguishing the V1's and V2's. I also have seen what is seemingly the same colored bass described as Surf green, and Sherwood Green. are they the same? Regardless, thank you for this!
Thx a lot for your kind words. Well, the differences are hardly visible. But the curved fingerboard edges allone are worth getting a V2. Plus the fact, that V2s seem to be consistently lighter. The color of my bass is definitely Sherwood green. I've never seen a surf green finish on a Sire bass yet. All the best, stay safe and healthy!
Hey Michael, amazing review, very detailed. Can you tell me would a Sterling stingray be a better alternative to this one? Because I am just starting out , never played bass before. I am really confused between a jazz bass like this or a single hum bucker based bass like the stingray. Both have got active preamps. Again, great content, keep posting videos like this.
Hi there! The Jazz Bass is definitely the more versatile instrument. As a first, I´d suggest the Sire. It´s really an amazing bang for the buck! All the best!
Hmmm, to be honest, other than looks, I can´t think of a way that makes the screws better than a compartment. But that might just be me! ;-) However, thx a lot for watching and commenting!
Yeah I know what you mean. I have seen the little plastic tabs break mid gig when they get snagged on a sweater or belt, a lot of people put tape over their plastic battery compartment so it doesn’t screw them mid gig
@@rasmillion Oh wow, the wildest things happen... ;-) I´ve gigged a SR5 with that sort of compartment on so many gigs, over so many years, without any issue. But these screws won´t fit tightly anymore, after changing the batteries several times...
Yeah, I've read about that. I'm playing m basses passively most of the time. And both my Sires are still on the first batteries. So, that point isn't really that negative! Thx a lot for watching and commenting! 😀
Thx a lot, glad you´ve enjoyed it! I think, the pickups are very good and make a huge part of the whole sound and responsiveness of the instrument! So, there´s really no need to change anything... ;-) Stay safe & all the best!
I've had a view squires CV and VM Jazz basses. They had bad fretwork and paintjob. Now I have a Sire V7 2nd gen ash in tobacco sunburst. My copy is overall perfect. Healpocket, fretjob etc. Better than the squires I had. So your comparison with Sire vs Squier is only your personal experience. Mine is completely opposite. Both great brands though!
ED KB Sure, it’s only my personal opinion. But even if some people experience similar “issues” with their Sire basses, one has to keep the price in mind. And my personal finely verdict is absolutely positive. I love my Sire V7, I can highly recommend it and I’ll probably get a V7 5-string next year as well. :-) Thx a lot for watching and commenting.
Thx a lot for watching and commenting! I´ve written the different setup descriptions into the video (active/passive, which pickup, etc.). I play he bass into an EBS MultiComp (my always on pedal), and from there into a MarkBass LittleMarcus 1000, which has been recorded via DI in this video. I hope, that helps! All the best & stay safe!
I really like these basses . If we wanted a Marcus Miller Fender signature bass . It would cause an arm an a leg to buy a used instrument . I realize you don't think these are done perfectly but I've heard glowing reviews about them and thay sire has great tone .
Moin!
Well, the AC Jazz Bass is s favorite of mine. I love the color, the lollipop tuners, the overall 66 vibe. But I'd honestly say, that feel wise and sound wise, the Sire is more versatile and definitely the better bang for the buck! 😉
Thx so much for your kind words. Although I've seen many other good reviews of this instrument, I wanted it to do my way. 😉 Please stay safe and healthy, brother!
Hi Michael, I noticed you mentioned 60 to 40 pickups blend. I have Sire M2 and it seems like this knob is more like a switch between bridge/both/neck pickup. Are you sure you able to blend it smootly on your Sire bass? Just wonder if they differs on V7 and M2.
Yeah, you´re right. Very little movement on the knob goes a long way! You get the hang of it after some time! ;-) Have a lot of fun with your wonderful bass! All the best & stay safe!
Dae LaCruzz Choose the one you like better, look wise. Technically, there are minor differences (like pu spacing, etc.), but with both instruments, you’ll get the same killer tones. ;-)
@@MichaelSchmittEleven I just purchased one, I also have the 2nd Gen P7 and M7 wanted to hear something about the new V7 before I bought it, I didn't like the V7 at all sold it, thanks for the insight
Hallo, couldn´t read all the comments to find out if sombody asked before ;-) Could you tell me what strings you have used on the Sire for this demo and which Interface? Greets Arpi
Hi there! No prob, Arpi! The strings are D´Addario Nickel wounds 045-100, and as an interface, I use the Behringer U-phoria UMC-404HD. All the best, stay safe & healthy!
Hmmm, I thought the neck itself was always maple, but the fingerboard would be maple or rosewood? 🤷🏻♂️ Either way, the difference shouldn't be a huge one. As a rule of thumb one can say, the harder (denser) the wood, the more pronounced the upper mids and highs become.
@@Scarabee80 Ohhh man they all looks gorgeous!!! That green looks fenomenal but also the natural one.. so yeah i think that i pick the natural finish, 4 o 5 strings!!! Sorry with my english lol.. 😬

I love the pickups in the Sires, and especially the V7 is an extreme versatile instrument that offers everything from traditional vintage to super modern bass sounds. Maybe you could get used to the feel of the V7 neck...
Thank you, I feel that I've chosen a bass guitar now.. Very helpful!
Thx a lot for the kind words. I wish you a great time with your Sire bass. I really love them. All the best! 😀🙏🏻
Great playing and review! Maybe Sire should go with a magnetic battery cover , for convenience. All your points are valid , well done sir!
Thx a lot! Yeah, maybe that´ll come with the 3rd gen. All the best!
Great playing. Very inspiring. Just ordered the same model, same colour earlier today at Thomann. For that price I will accept a bit of fret dressing. But let's see.
Have a lot of fun with this fantastic instrument. Thx a lot for your kind words!
Im on verge of ordering one, I liked the tobacco sunset but like this green too. Tough choice!
Excellent review Paul from.Liverpool Uk
Thx a lot Paul! Glad, you’ve enjoyed it. :-) Greets to the beautiful UK!
Omg .. that green is ... 😍
Yeah, she's really pretty! 😉
Very good review. I heard exactly what I needed, to compare with my VV7 gen 2.
Thx a lot, Gerry. Glad you’ve enjoyed it and it was of some use for you. :-)
And thx a lot for watching and commenting!
How do you like your Sire?
@@MichaelSchmittEleven I really like the feel, better than the gen 1 and it's got a sound of its own. The VV7 is similar, yet so different. I'll still be getting a gen 2, V7 because I like the voicing. Yours sounds like an Atelier Z!
Gerry926 Cool, be sure to grab one in these amazing custom colors, with matching headstock. They look so good! I love the Sherwood green on mine! All the best!
Good review and cool playing, thanks!
Thx a lot.
Hey Michael amazing content, how did you record this? DI OR ANY PREAMP?
Thx a lot, Mariano. You can find the exact signal chain at the end of the video. All the best, stay safe and healthy!
Awesome review and excellent playing😎!!
Thx a lot for these kind words, Osama! Really glad you enjoyed my video! All the best!
Love the colour. Never tried a MM bass. What’s the nut size? Thanks.
Thinking about buying this bass! How is the build quality?
Get one, you won't regret it. The build quality is absolutely superb for the affordable price. But the playability and the sound are really top notch! 😀
I bought it! As you say, it's a great bass! Still trying to figure out what string gauge to go with, though. Great video!
Cheers!
Great play, just bought one :) What type of string do you play with ?
glad, you've enjoyed it! These are definitely superb instruments! I use D'Addario nickel wounds on it, 045- 100.
Stay safe and healthy!
Sweet jamming there dude.
Thx a ton. Glad, you've enjoyed it.
Where can I find this bass? Haven’t been able to find it in the green color anywhere. You said it was Sherwood but I’m only seeing Swamp Ash?
Here in Germany/ many other countries in Europe, you can buy them at Thomann.de
the flip battery compartment was actually a nightmare on the first, very easily fell apart. Not just me, a few guys I know, same thing. Had to go on utube to see if there was a way to fix it. Just a warning if anyone goes for a second hand one, check battery compartment:)
Very interesting. I'm still on the first battery. So, it's not too dramatic... Thx for watching and commenting!
Literally ordered this exact model last week, just arrived. Now on internet to find out why there are seven knobs and what they all do!
.
You´ll love this instrument! And by the way, I explain the preamp in this video! ;-)
Just got mine, I dont know why no info leaflets supplied. My frets look perfect though.
All the best & stay safe!
same pre amp in the V3, I'm picking one of them up and them putting it to a tech to get it set and dressed and ready to go!
@@MichaelSchmittEleven just wanted to let you know that I bought this bass some months ago and I'm very happy with it :) thanks for the review :)
@@gh991 Thx a lot for letting me know! Hope, you enjoy it as much as I do! All the best, stay safe and healthy!
Man you a beast!! Thank you for review and playing finger style. Been thinking about this bass for a while ,because of price. How about passive mode?
Get a jazz for versatillity, then get a stingray a few months/years later for that extra awesome mids (which is useless if you can't play)
Hi there! The Jazz Bass is definitely the more versatile instrument. As a first, I´d suggest the Sire. It´s really an amazing bang for the buck!
All the best!
Many people would say the screws on the battery compartment is a huge plus for gigiing
But I hear ya man
Hmmm, to be honest, other than looks, I can´t think of a way that makes the screws better than a compartment.
That does suck
There has to be a middle ground
Maybe a magnetic wood cover
@@rasmillion That would be great! But the cost would probably too high. At the end of the day, this is still an affordable instrument...
you are great player amassing God bless you
Thx a lot for these kind words! All the best and stay safe, brother!
Brilliant playing!
Thx so much.
Sire went to screw in battery compartment covers because the plastic battery covers on the first gen versions kept breaking after a short time
Yeah, I've read about that. I'm playing m basses passively most of the time. And both my Sires are still on the first batteries. So, that point isn't really that negative! Thx a lot for watching and commenting! 😀
what’s the thing at the top of the bass that makes the strings lower?
It's the string retainer that keeps the open strings from rattling.
Could you do a sound comparison between the alder and swamp ash versions ?
That would be a great idea for sure.
Great sound
Thx a lot!
Hey nice review and play! Do you think that pickup upgrade worth or need for this guitar?
Thx a lot, glad you´ve enjoyed it! I think, the pickups are very good and make a huge part of the whole sound and responsiveness of the instrument! So, there´s really no need to change anything... ;-) Stay safe & all the best!
Sick bass, dude, keep it up! Killer grooves!
Thx a lot! :-) Glad, you enjoyed it! All the best & keep it low! -)
Thx a lot for watching and commenting.
Frets on my V3 are perfect.
That's great, Ted. Most basses don't seem to have this issue. Have a lot of fun with your instrument. All the best.
I have the very same bass. How the hell do you get that sound out of it?! It's like butter
Michael Schmitt thanks my friend! Great channel 🤘
@@JohnSmith-cl2sq You´re welcome, John! :-)
How is the action? Did you make changes?
I prefer go low avoiding fret buzz at all (from 2 mm to 2,5 mm on 12 fret). Thanks for the review
Action is quite low witout problematic fret noise. And I tend to dig in pretty hard.
I really like these basses . If we wanted a Marcus Miller Fender signature bass . It would cause an arm an a leg to buy a used instrument . I realize you don't think these are done perfectly but I've heard glowing reviews about them and thay sire has great tone .
You're totally right. Amazing bang for the buck. 😀👍🏻
Sire Marcus Miller 👍
Correct! 😀👍🏻
Moin!
How would you say this bass compares to the Adam Clayton Jazz Bass?
Well, the AC Jazz Bass is s favorite of mine. I love the color, the lollipop tuners, the overall 66 vibe. But I'd honestly say, that feel wise and sound wise, the Sire is more versatile and definitely the better bang for the buck! 😉
Finally, a player who can play the thing! Enough of these poor players with all the gear and no idea.
@@MichaelSchmittEleven great, thanks)

Cant decide between this one or the vintage one :'(, which one would you recommend?
Dae LaCruzz Choose the one you like better, look wise. Technically, there are minor differences (like pu spacing, etc.), but with both instruments, you’ll get the same killer tones. ;-)
Excellent video !

@@MichaelSchmittEleven Thanks, very much, same to you, Greets Arpi
Michael, does it matter on the Sire if it has a maple or alder neck ?
Hmmm, I thought the neck itself was always maple, but the fingerboard would be maple or rosewood? 🤷🏻♂️ Either way, the difference shouldn't be a huge one. As a rule of thumb one can say, the harder (denser) the wood, the more pronounced the upper mids and highs become.
Sweet!!! Nice tone and playing
Do you also play bass?
Yes and i love it 😁👍
@@isaiasrivera9302 if you could choose, wich basse would you take?
