Both basses are fantastic. But the 2nd Gen is much more refined and you can really hear the difference. Sire basses just blow me away how good they are and for their price range.
I finally bought A swamp ash/maple V7 vintage 2nd gen. I have several other really nice ( and more expensive) J basses inthat same family . I feel like I can sell all of them now because this one sounds and plays so much better. I did change the tuners and installed a Gotoh Quick release bridge. I could not be happier. Thanks for the great review.
As I was checking out this player's groove and tone, I was wondering, how come I've not seen/heard him before, and then I realised, 'Of course I have''. Great player! Nice review. Bless. Peace.
Thanks for these videos. Explains a lot as I ordered a V7 vintage right before they announced 2nd gen. Great instrument! Mine is actually a hybrid since I have a V2 headstock and neck but a V1 body and electronics. That's why my fret edges are nice and rounded.
I bought my Sire V7 on October 9th 2017 from Thomann and it's a 1st generation, but it looks exactly like the first one that you play, except it's an Alder body, Rosewood fretboard and 2(!) separate 9 volt compartments in the back. The 2nd has a single battery compartment. Maybe it's a transitional model between the 1st and 2nd? In any case, it sounds fantastic and like your 2nd one here. Thanks for the great video!
Nice custom colors, wish Sire would make them for the general public. The matching headstock is especially a nice touch. C'mon Sire, custom colors already!!!
Mike von Hohenstein Just noticed I must have one of the first of the second generation! I ordered it last August 2017 and delivered around October 2017 but noticed I have the new string tree and the Sire etched name plate! And my frets are rounded ! I just assumed it was a first generation.
Interested in this comparison because I have a V3 second gen (sounds awesome) and have a used V7 fretless coming that is first gen. It will be interesting to compare the two. Thanks for doing the vid. And yes the cats were hillarious!
will probably treat myself to a maple fretboard pj 2nd gen this Christmas. Enough time to go for opinions to settle on the 2nd gen ones. I really enjoy my 1st gen V7 jazz with rosewood fretboard
Great latin groves. Reminds me of one of my favorite bass players Ney Conceicao. I'm amazed at how huge the difference is between the two basses. I like both but the gen 2 is much clearer on the low end..
I have the idea that this 1 st gen example bas also has older, longer used so less brite strings on it, I have 2 of these 1 st gen basses, a fretless and frettet, they sound brighter than in this demo, but the 2 nd gen have something extra nice to me too. Nice cat :)
hello mr vitti. Your video is very helpful , thanks for that. One question ,from your experience what would be the sound difference if the body was ash?I am thinking about buying the ash body with maple fretboard.
Menelaos chatzist hi, the alder body is usually a little lighter and warmer sounding like the 60s basses. The ash was used in the 70s. Usually edgier sound and a little heavier.
@@JBass69 hi anthony thanks for the video. do ash or adler body effect the comfort of the play or not? i am not talking about the weight. i am talking about the slight hand and neck. i am trying to ask that when we say body are we talking about the neck and fretboard?
Hi anthony i have got one of first generation with a good sound but also a big buzz when i play solo with the bridge pick up . With the both it’s ok . There is the same probleme with second géneration ? or the pick ups are with hum cancelling ? sorry for my english and than’ks a lot for your video and all you’re teaching work
I was never satisfied with the first generation. The A and D string where just a little too low volume compared to the other two and the pickups where just ab bit too clean sounding but this new genaration with a flatter board and a little more dirty sounding pickups could be nice - i only wish it was a bit lighter.
i can't see the color of the guitar on the official website of Sire. There is no orange colour at the V7 vintage 2nd generation section. How do you explain that?
Great video! How about the weight? One of the things I thought the Sire had is that it was quite heavy. Other than that, the 2nd gen sounds really good. I was about to buy the 1st gen but after watching your video, really thinking about getting the 2nd gen.
@@JBass69 I got my bass SireV7 vintage a few weeks know... You lied to me man... you said I would like it.... The problem is ... I LOVE IT! No worries, I forgive you👊🏾

I don't think they got it wrong. Those basses are great for the price. Better than anything else I've tried. These 2nd Gen cost more, but youare getting more. They have made improvements on the original. That's what I would hope they would do. I like my 1st Gen too.

I am a Fender Fanboy but my new V7 gen.2 blows me away.
What an instrument 😍👍
I was inspired by the groove you were playing. Real nice. Latin funk is what I am feeling.

Both sound fantastic!!! I really like my 1st gen V7 5 but I must admit that the 2nd gen bass in your video definitely has more presence and punch.

Well well played! 👍🌟✌️ You helped me to choose the 2 ND gen over the first which I was going to get... Glad I came upon your post
Excellent review, very clear , articulate and focused, great playing too!
Thanks for this great review the 2nd gen is definitely an improvement which is saying something !
Nice custom colors, wish Sire would make them for the general public. The matching headstock is especially a nice touch. C'mon Sire, custom colors already!!!
I'm going to ask them if they could offer a limited addition color or something like that.
Ive been waiting for someone to do this video, thanks ! From Canterbury, Kent UK!
senseislayer thanks man, hope it helps.
YOU HAVE TO REALLY GIVE IT TO MARCUS MILLER AND CO. FOR THESE BASSES THEY ARE FANTASTIC .
They really are, and they are getting better all the time. Looking forward to the V10, but I love that 2nd gen V7
I have the first generation but could definitely hear the difference. Nice overall improvements to an already solid bass.

I focused to the cat
I know! I saw the cats playing after I posted this. ha ha
@@JBass69 is that your cat?
@@cherieltanog8501 yes, there are two there. One is behind the screen. You can see him poke his paw out at the very beginning
That's Lily. Winston is behind the screen. Lily is his mother
Cat V1 or V2 ?
I recently got a first generation Sire in a trade and I love it. The tone of the 2nd Generation is dead even with high dollar boutique Jazzes.
Sounds good, Love the new features. These guitar hands of mine will appreciate the neck and fret upgrades. 😃🎸👈🤘👌👍🎶🎵

Killer playing. Congrats!
Excellent review Paul from Liverpool Uk
Thanks for the cool music and video Anthony :-)
Nice cat, he was trying to play bass @ right corner....ha ha ha.....
the 2 generation bass strings seem newer and this changes the sound a lot!
They were the same strings as I said in the video

Jacques Angel that happens with all single coil pickups. That’s why I use EMGs in my other basses. If you run both pickups full, it won’t hum.
thank you ever so much Anthony!

Where can one try one of these new basses? Looked around in SoCal stores and unable to find.
good feeling and good sound
It is a shame they don't sell it in this awesome yellowish color or other nice color options - just the same old boring colours :o(
I'm talking with them about offering colors. I changed the strings on both basses before I recorded, so they were the same new strings.

The weight is like my 60's with the Alder body. Not heavy like the 70's J's with the hard Ash bodies.
Great review! Thanks for this! Could you say that this bass is heavy, though? I've heard Sire basses are quite on the heavy side.
No, this one is not that heavy. Not as heavy as my green 1969 Jazz.
@@JBass69 I see.. Cool! Thanks for the info!
Fender must have freaked when these basses came out for the price . They are pro instruments

Dean Markley Blue Steel
Great sounding strings! What gauge did you have on the two basses?
Love the 2nd gen Vintage. Have you ever played the V5?

Are both basses EQ'd the same way? also are u using the same (NEW) strings on both basses? old strings vs new strings makes a huge difference.
Same new strings and both are EQd the same as I said in the video.
Do both basses have alder bodyes? Or gen.,1 is swamp ash?
alexey zavolokin yes, Alder
The gen1 has a turtoise plate, so must be Ash. That's their thing. Black=Alder.
Hey Anthony - how did you come by that particular color? nowhere to be found on the site. Thank you.
That's aone off color they made for me. I'm hoping they will offer it in the future
Hello. What is your v7 2nd made in? I can only find a v7 2nd made in indonesia in my country. I don't if it is okay.
how much is the weight ?
I have the Alder bodies. They weigh about as much as my 60's J's. Medium weight. Not to heavy
was that on the same settings?? as the 1st gen sounded better to me?/ anyone else agree??
I agree
Thanks
Are the new pickups singles or humcancelling?
I believe they are singles
Fanny cat.
Nice Bass!!!
What about the 5 strings of both?
To me the string spacing is too narrow on the 5 string v7. I bought one and sold it.
What does it weigh?
It's a medium weight. Very much like my 60's J basses. Not super heavy like the 70's Ash bodies
w color is that (2ng gen)? 👍🏻
this colour doesnt exist on the official website of sire. how do you explain that?
V7 1st gen or v3 2nd gen?
The 2nd Gen is more "Three dimensional" if you will.
The differences??
Does the 1st gen have any advantages over 2nd?
Not for me. The 2nd Gen is an improved version of the 1st.
Btw, Nice cat :)
CAT
So punchy that orange
Cat V1 slaps the cat V2 behind the wall
Ordered a P7 It came in at 10.4 pounds, for a 4 string. Way too heavy
The head stock looks like a dodo bird...or the designer left the building
Not much difference in sound.
omg cat~~~~~~~~~~~ahahahahahahahaha
So they got it wrong first time round, think I'll look for a refund !
