    SD stands for special Duty. and the E stands for enhanced. and the pre-drilled holes are for the sanding lines to be installed by the customer. Although it should be done by the factory

      Yes, I forgot how bad the older releases wiring was, and really had to fight to get all the wires back in there on the 4141 unit.

    This is the best review that I have ever seen on U-tube in any scale! There are two other channels that are excellent as well...but this was exceptional!
    Looking forward to your next reviews.
    P.S.: I just found your channel and subscribed.

    I’ve got all 3 BNSF coming… I am slightly disappointed that they couldn’t make the rotating bearing caps work since all ScaleTrains locos have them but the lighting and detail upgrades look great! Excited for mine to arrive.

    • @SideTrackX
      @SideTrackX  2 роки тому +1

      Yea they're still great models regardless. I think I'll have to pick up a BNSF in the 84XX Series eventually.

    Thanks for sharing another review, it's nice to see these models in a upgraded form. After talking with one of the developers he said that they are still working on improving this model.
    The two holes under the sill are for the extra sanding lines that are in the box, they chose not to add these because the people that run ~18R curves will cause them to come off.
    Animated roller bearings on the trucks are hard to implement on these specific trucks, but they are still working to maybe redesign the trucks.

    • @phillipsakalik4877
      @phillipsakalik4877 2 роки тому

      Great to hear they are still working with the rotating bearing caps…my guess (could be wrong) is they’d have to completely retool the truck. Even without them, these are beautiful models!

      Yea I noticed that too late in the review, I actually saw on a Facebook page about the sanding lines and it seems my box did not include them. Luckily Athearn is sending them out to me, but I didn't want to delay the video any longer.

    Excellent review, I had been thinking about purchasing a BNSF ACe when Athearn announced these 2.0 version, especially since the CPRAIL SD70ACU did so well, but I may hold out on the ACe for now after seeing this review and wait and see if I can catch any overflow stock on sale later on. One note, if you plan on pulling really long trains with this or any Genesis, Ready to Roll, or Roundhouse unit, swap out the McHenry couplers for Kadees. The McHenry couplers are only good for about 30 to 35 cars, beyond that, they begin failing as the couplers simply cannot handle the added stress on them.

    • @SideTrackX
      @SideTrackX  2 роки тому

      Yea, the Mchenery couplers don't stay long, they are swapped out after the review for kadee 158's. Broke too many of those plastic couplers on long trains.

    Great review i agree with you on it not having rotation bearing caps that should be on them plus i do like how when you remove the shell there's no wires all around in the inter body shell definitely likehow the weight got improved and stuff definitely agreed with you on the price i think it a little high for a locomotive like this i got the 1982 & 1983 in ho I'm happy with them but i had to turn the volume down on them because it rallied the speaker i had a SD70ACE Tsunami2 and it blew the speaker and so now i turn them way way down and they don't rallied around and sounded much better other than that great review and I'm glad they did release these in the UP heritage schemes

    Thanks for the great review. I'll give Athearn the benefit of doubt and say that they did "all they could do" with this unit upgrade but I'm only waiting for the NS Heritage units(IT & NYC) and the other NS SD70ACe's to be released. Beyond that, I feel like they could've done more.

    I wonder when they'll be releasing the other three HP units ? Also I know that some people it's important to have the prototypical railings but I wish they were a little bit thicker so they don't Warp so easy I don't know what's so prototypical about having warp railings I'd rather have them a little thicker and straight.

      @@AbelG8781 You'll be seeing some really great stuff in N-scale from Athearn. There's a locomotive being worked on that N scale people with be satisfied with. Expect detail comparable to HO. Take the N scale tank cars that were just announced recently for example.
