I have a question. Why i see most pro players they hold their racquet pointing downwards? You can see all the replays. Is it because opponent usually do jump smash to them thus it is better to defend with racquet pointing lower to the ground so that it is easier to lift? I find it easier to lift if racquet is point lower. It also reduce my time a lot without the need to swing the racquet back so much. If i put the racquet facing front, i only can return the smash to the net. And if the racquet is facing front, i need to do a 180 degree swing to the back rather than just 45 degree swing to the back thus give me faster reaction. Please explain. Thanks.

      1. Professional players’ smashes come at knee height.
      2. Professional players raise their rackets at the correct timing even when they are lowering their rackets. This is because they know exactly when the shuttlecock is coming. However, even professional players raise their rackets upward during short rallies. That's the basics.

@@full-swing Yes, i was taught long time ago when i learned badminton to raise rackets upwards front. But when i see pro players play (especially when they are waiting for receive a smash) their rackets are lower. I will try to observe more on the knee length explanation how their quick response to raise the rackets. For quick and fast rallies, yes i notice they do need to raise the racquet to return faster. Thank you for the explanation.

I'm just a advance player. Normally i only do my racket downward when my opponent is faster than me so I pull slow the game. And if their smash is sharp, but when I got the chance I saw opponent not in a good position to give a pressuring smash my racket will be forward eye length so can change from defend to attack but when you build your gameplay reading good enough you should know when to do a good high defend or low counter defend..
