it's not 'das Abend', it's 'der Abend'. There can be an article for today/tomorrow/yesterday but it's not very common. Das Gestern, das Heute und das Morgen sounds pretty poetic to me, it's not used in everyday German. Same as in English actually. When do you say 'the tomorrow' or 'the today'?

My school did a project where we were asked to do projects on countrys. Me and some kids were put in charge of Germany and we had to say our whole project in German. It was hard but this helped.
