The CEO understands the issues and I think he displayed that in this brief interview. I love his comment about the Italian government asking for 1MM in annual production and he responds, "then I need 1MM customers". It's all about trying to figure out what a customer wants and then finding a way to supply their needs. They are in one hell of a fight, and I wish them the best.
I'm in Australia and Stellantis brands are struggling...the total of all of their brands January-June sales combined is around 1% of the market. Combined the Stellantis brands would be 22nd.

You cant say Profits and Reliability and affordability when it comes to Stelllantis or Detroit- Dodge/ Chrysler/Jeep., and Unions are part of that problem.
I stumbled on news about ridiculously expensive Jeep/RAM recently, some models so expensive like entering Porsche territory. So this guy imagined he could rebrand Jeep/RAM like overnight and charge so. I am not into trucks but I know that much Jeep/RAM were always a bit lagging GM and Ford, but could offer tempting deals to stay afloat. And the guy doubled down on that, according to pricing and heritage, Jeep/RAM should be something like a Porsche experience with Toyota reliability (at least of recent past) to justify prices in terms of image to start with. In terms of sales that is not going to happen. And I doubt he managed to raise quality so much just based on the fact how long Japanese charged quite a bit less for decades as Japan after WW2 did not have a reputation for quality. At least he is right about EVs of now.
I will never forget when my Volvo dealer wouldn't take back my V70 with 160.000 kms in order to buy a new one. Ended my 12 year relationship with Volvo. The sales guy explained that Volvo wanted to concentrate on leasing with low mileage deals.
there is absolutely no chance to be any where near competitive to EVs from China...I wonder whether europeans can become competitive even at 100% tariff for cars from china...
Chinese are not that competitive at all in Europe. Even BYD pricing is at least 20% to high. Nio needs cut of 50% at least. Chinese competitiveness is overrated at this point in time...
Wishful thinking. Few in the US want electric cars. That market is saturated and the infrastructure is inadequate. Car manufacturers need to move to hydrogen engines or synthetic fuels.
What would people say if they could purchase a nicely equipped EV sedan with 620 miles of range and a battery that charges in 11 minutes at temperatures between - 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit?
If a jeep wasn't 100k and was more around 60k they would have this problem. Plus dealer ain't dealing. They are holding on to vehicles over 2 years and try to sell them as used at 9% interest. They just need to listen to the costumers and sell their vehicles.
So he says some of the right things. Seems to understand the business, somewhat at least. Actions displayed by Stellantis in recent history, on the other hand, demonstrate a profound lack of understanding of the car business. Kill the Cherokee without a replacement planned? Kill the Charger & Challenger and replace them with electric cars? Huge price increases across the board? Has anybody in charge at that company ever even MET one of their customers? They function as if they are absolutely clueless. Kill the V8 when a huge percentage of their core buyers are "V8 only" people. Ford, GM, Toyota, etc continue to produce compliant V8s so they can't blame it on the EPA if they are actually telling the truth. These and many other corporate decisions are not just little miscues that could have been called either way & still been at least partially good decisions. As a former GM owner who transformed all our vehicles over to FCA vehicles a few years ago, I am transitioning back to GM as quickly as possible. Stellantis has zero chance of survival under this incompetent management team.
This guy doesn't understand that here in the United States, we do not want your BS EV cars. Also, we do not want to overpay for trucks or cars. Also, the Chinese vehicles are EV, and if the cost is low, it doesn't mean that they will sell well. I see more Chinese EV vehicles catch fire then domestic ones.
Let me help Carlos. Customers do not want to pay $20K more for a car in the same segment as a competitor. $20K for someone in the middle class is a lot of money. You will not be bringing in profits that you did during covid. He has cut over 90% US jobs so who is going to purchase his vehicles?
Being from Europe, I have no prejudice against European brands, in fact, I've been preferring Italian cars all my life because of the Fiat group engineering (FPT). Which means, I'll not remain a Stellantis client since it seems almost all their ICE will be the Puretech from the old PSA group. If it's ICE, I want an italian engine. If it's EV, I only consider Tesla. So there you go.
Carmakers have stopped producing affordable small cars like the Peugeot 108 or the Ford Fiesta, trying to force customers to buy bigger more polluting and more expensive cars. Customers have responded by buying Chinese EVs.
Many manufacturers were rubbing ther hands, thinking the Gov’ts were mandating the public to by a new EV car. No reason to pay more for a car with far fewer parts. EV is a flashlight on wheels. No reason to pay such a high price.
If it’s not taboo to cut brands off, Tavares should just sell Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram (along with the rights to Plymouth, Imperial, AMC, etc.) to Mr. Frank B. Rhodes right now. He obviously doesn’t care about America, Chrysler’s employees, or just making good products in general, so he should sell them off to someone who does.
How bad are things for Carlos right now that he does an interview in front of peg board with drywall screws in it… Hey Carlos I think they might be hiring for night receiving at Walmart.
I bought a brand new VW Passat for three years and got back 500 dollars back. reason, wrong engine oil filter made by service station, whole engine became crap.
I don’t think than Ev price is the only problem. The real issue is that EVs are functionallly worst than ICE and they do not add so tangible advantages. The so called transition is more likely a sort of rebalancing in engine and energy type. The price is not the cause but I think the consequence of a bigger problem.
Stellantis acquired a bunch of European brands because it’s cheaper and easier, especially since they used government loans, rather than developing their own platforms and models. But all of this needs to be managed, and it seems like they’re struggling; the American management model isn't working. As a result, there will be layoffs in Europe and the U.S., and ordinary people will lose their jobs.
This is what happens when a company gets greedy and buys everything to make themselves big but anyone with a sense of reality will tell you skimp on quality and overproduce and having all these eggs in one basket it will fall from a great height and not many eggs will remain seen it before and I started in the main dealer side of the motor trade in 1976 and greed has failed every time and it's always the bosses that walk away with the big wallets,
High margins and affordability don't go together. Stellantis does not understand that, it's a volume game, they need to use economies of scale and need to be competitive with their pricing which they are not. GM market share in NA keeps rising, and Stellantis' keeps dropping; how much market share can they lose until they realize that their strategy is not working.
A few short years ago, when a typical consumer like myself compared an FCA vehicle (Grand Cherokee for example) with anything in the GM fleet, there were valid reasons to buy the Jeep, and I did. Today - absolutely not so. Given Jeep's excessive pricing these days, you can get a better vehicle from GM for the same $, hands down.
Truth is all USA car companies cannot compete against china. It is over. The only way to avoid closure of all companies is to emulate china but with gasoline cars, not evs. USA needs to make a compact/sedan gasoline low emission car. Car needs no abs brakes, no traction control, no tpms crap. Just a good car like civic or corolla loaded but sold at rock bottom $13k no extra fees, delivery and other scams. $13k on the road zero down and financing at 2% 48 months. The struggling working class in america need these cars. At least 40 million people would acquire these carsnin usa and canada within 6 months if usa car makers want to survive.
It might make sense to sell European production units to the Chinese if more appealing cars came out of it. But let's hope the Europeans take the competition, which Carlos also advocates.
Stellantis is irrelevant. In less than a year, they will be broken up and sold piecemeal. They dont have any attractive brands, their technology is outdated, and their management is very poor. They are gone.

But here is the thing, in 10-20 years EVs will be awesome, as good as gas in every aspect you will not even notice a difference. The more EVs get sold, the cheaper and better they will get.
@@drscopeifyYeah, okay!! 😂
Stellantis has destroyed 40 years of cooperation between Peugeot and Citroen workshops. Reducing margins and complicating the collection of guarantees. In addition to not providing a definitive solution to the PureTech engine in 10 years. Entire families only bought Peugeot or Citroen. Now they buy Toyota.
There is not a single reliable brand under this umbrella. You need to really want the car if you know they are not as good as Japanese.
Carlos Please wake up nobody want EV cars!
The only ones who are pushing hybrids are the partsmakers like Bosch because they admitted hybrid powertrains cost the most and breakdown the most. Great for them, not for consumers... This is why they are being pushed. BTW, that's a direct quote from a Bosch spokesperson on Autoline After Hours who also admitted they drive a Tesla... That's all you need to know!
Hybrids sell as fast as they get on the lot just ask Toyota it is their bread and butter
This guy just doesn't get it, EVs are not going to save this company. Its not all about the cost
Michael Manley hatte Chrysler, vor allem Jeep, Dodge RAM gut entwickelt.
Schade daß er weg ist. Vorher und danach ist es wieder das alte Krisenunternehmen.
We don’t want EVs
"good reliability, good appeal, good affordability...." Carlos, what about those puretech motors...known to be the opposite of reliable...yet you keep pushing them everywhere. An electic peugeot 308 priced within 2k of a Tesla model 3....is that good affordability? Talks a good game, the facts speak differently. Carlos will be out of a job within 12 months.
This is "Mr. Home Depot" Bob Nardelli all over again...
I really miss Sergio (RIP), he was the epitome of a carmaker CEO...
These former bank CEO's just show again and again that they do not understand the carmaking business..
Stellantis must bring affordability to all vehicles again or their kapute in 12 months. Overflow lots will look like Mt Everest at this rate. A $80k decent pickup, $$120 loaded... that's just insane.
I remember when Marchionne said in an interview that he would like anyone not to buy their electric cars since they were losing money…
New cars are too expensive here in Europe, they are not affordable even with subsidies. The strategy of making profits by just raising prices is not good for the long-term
Lol they raised prices 50% over the past 4 years
Who will pay them high UAW wages otherwise!?
@@kaseyc5078 well there cars are priced out 100k pickups ? A 50k Durango with a hellcat engine 110k its crazy
@@Jb-mp1in They have way cheaper than 100k pickups LOL.
The guy just bragged Opel survived wars… he means the wwii. Opel along with most German brands built parts and vehicles for the nazi war effort. This guy is such a clown 🤦♂️
In Europe, consummers want EV's. They just don't want YOUR ev's. There is a difference. We need cheaper cars overall, not just evs, but overall. Some models have gotten like 50% increase in price, what did you expect?!
Although gas price is much higher in Europe, EV sales are also dropping.
@@miks564BMW +36% EV Sales in 2024, Volvo + 27%. It depends what the brands are offering.
The CEO understands the issues and I think he displayed that in this brief interview. I love his comment about the Italian government asking for 1MM in annual production and he responds, "then I need 1MM customers". It's all about trying to figure out what a customer wants and then finding a way to supply their needs. They are in one hell of a fight, and I wish them the best.
the Italian government must be in some ways loving the sharp decrease in stock price....will make it cheaper to get a decent stake in the company
...The biggest stakeholder is still the Agnelli family (Fiat founders)
Stellantis might close factories in Italy, but I believe the unions won't allow that to happen.
I'm in Australia and Stellantis brands are struggling...the total of all of their brands January-June sales combined is around 1% of the market. Combined the Stellantis brands would be 22nd.
And Chinese cars are appearing everywhere.
Stellantis loves competition when China is forced to pay 100% tariffs. Carlos Tavares states that he wants to fight but prefers not to have tariffs. Without tariffs the fight is already over.
"If "Out of Touch" was a... Person " SMH 😄
Big corporation thinks they are boss, until time comes 😅😅
Dodge and RAM = V 8 HEMI
Maserati V 8 or V 12
what did you expect when they pulled out "make believe" MSRP's out of their arses?? LOL dealer lots just keep piling up with vehicles
No Taboos in not buying Stellantis products either
As long as Carlos is attached to anything I won’t be signing on anything.
That is plain sad. That guy is no car guy.
This guy has no business becoming CEO of brands that belong here in America.
Let me help Carlos. Customers do not want to pay $20K more for a car in the same segment as a competitor. $20K for someone in the middle class is a lot of money. You will not be bringing in profits that you did during covid. He has cut over 90% US jobs so who is going to purchase his vehicles?
Bring Back the Challenger 392 HEMI.
Bring back the Charger 392
Bring back the Chrysler 300 SRT8 392.
Stop the tiny turbo crap.
From the moment he said that all of the brands are profitable...i stopped watching.
Carmakers have stopped producing affordable small cars like the Peugeot 108 or the Ford Fiesta, trying to force customers to buy bigger more polluting and more expensive cars. Customers have responded by buying Chinese EVs.
I wonder if Stellantis started putting out a well built reliable vehicle for a competitive price if they'd do a little better... Hmm.
All I heard was a bunch of nothing! He doesn’t even know how the American market works. LOWER THE PRICES AND YOU’LL HAVE MORE SOLD VEHICLES!!!!!
If the brands are not able to monetize the value of the brands….you mean “you and your team” are not good enough to make them work?
Many manufacturers were rubbing ther hands, thinking the Gov’ts were mandating the public to by a new EV car. No reason to pay more for a car with far fewer parts. EV is a flashlight on wheels. No reason to pay such a high price.
Stellantis CEO has got to Go..
It's awesome how he blames everybody else for the mistakes he has made.
Make better cars at reasonable prices and all your problems are solved.
How bad are things for Carlos right now that he does an interview in front of peg board with drywall screws in it…
Hey Carlos I think they might be hiring for night receiving at Walmart.
The only bump that should be is the company bumping you to the unemployment line.... delusional
hahaha they will bring their EV affordable car in a few years. hahaha. TESLA AND CHINESE car builder will win over the conventional cars industry
It's a political matter, you can't compete with Chinese, you need to impose tariffs to Chinese products, all
Stellantis acquired a bunch of European brands because it’s cheaper and easier, especially since they used government loans, rather than developing their own platforms and models. But all of this needs to be managed, and it seems like they’re struggling; the American management model isn't working. As a result, there will be layoffs in Europe and the U.S., and ordinary people will lose their jobs.
Stellantis need to get out of the US Auto Market.
Definitely it's everybody's responsibility except the smartest CEO...What a joke.
This is what happens when a company gets greedy and buys everything to make themselves big but anyone with a sense of reality will tell you skimp on quality and overproduce and having all these eggs in one basket it will fall from a great height and not many eggs will remain seen it before and I started in the main dealer side of the motor trade in 1976 and greed has failed every time and it's always the bosses that walk away with the big wallets,
The modern British Leyland.
Bye Bye Alfa Romeo
@@1Steson Exactly. And that’s why I decided to buy from Cadillac instead of stellantis again!
Do not throw yor money on their shity cars. Let them beg for yor money
These guys dont understand the brand Alfa Romeo, there is no „Cuore sportivo“ anymore; only a Peugeot 3 cylinder in the new Junior.
He pretty much is telling us that anything is on the table!
This guy wants to charge $73k for a Ram with no Hemi...lol.
Carlos ghosn OR Tavares all are going to jail ...
This guy doesn't give a sh*t about the auto industry. If he did, he would understand how stupid their lineup is based on what American customers want. Instead, he's going all in on EVs knowing that people either don't want them, or cannot afford them. He's absolutely killing brands with his decisions. Who's going to buy a $100K Jeep or RAM?
Sind 15 Marken zu viel um diese Kundenspezifisch zu vermarkten ???
Peugeot Citroën forever
This guy is killing what used to be a great american brand. He is in denial!
Nobody wants EVs Carlos. Look at your numbers. We want V8, reliability and quality. That’s it. Nobody believes EVs are a viable option at this time.
He talks lots of talk but has no walk. Bastard Fiat products were always crap, just as they are now.
A large number of those brands have tiny lineups.
He's been just fired from Stellantis
In my opinion they should start with getting rid of the wet-beld 3cylinder engines and use engines which are trustworthy.
The people didn't want EV's. The energy needed produces pollution elsewhere.
People are losing their minds, but i think its a great idea. Some of these brands have been dead for years, like Chrysler.
Oh ! So, you needed a message by the consumers on EV costs? You couldn’t figure on your own that 40 - 60,000€ electric cars are not acceptable?
@@esr243 my thoughts exactly. Don’t they have access to hold house median incomes?
