I feed my dog and 3 cats homemade raw diets. They do not have food out all day to "graze". They are fed regular meals, one in the morning and one at night. They are all lean, shiny and have tons of energy. My 17 year old female cat is the most active of the bunch whose paw/eye coordination has not lost anything with age! I have not been able to find a recipe for cats on Rodney's site. I started out using the recipe on Dr. Lisa Pierson's website: catinfo.org. For the past few years I've also been using a recipe from the book, "Whole Health for Happy Cats" by, Sandy Arora. You most likely won't be able to access any recipes from this book on her website though, you'll need to purchase the book. I am starting to introduce once a day feedings, my dogs and cats have an amount of food per day that I use to split into two feedings, do I assume they will get there whole days portion in one meal? And is there a best time to feed their one meal or should we mix it up so their bodies don't go into panic because they were not fed at 8 a.m. or noon or whatever? Thank you in advance.
Is this for all type of dogs? I have a Yorkie and when he was little he had like a tremor, and after researching, I found out that small breeds like Yorkie tend to suffer from low sugar. Could I still be able to help him fast without fear of his sugar dropping too low?

Be careful giving your dog MCT oil. I gave my 9 lb Yorkie 1/4 tsp of Mercola's Ketone MCT oil and he has been vomiting bile! I would just stick with coconut oil.
Be very careful of the amount given, this is pure fat, not fat mixed with meat, organs etc. They can get pancreatitis quickly. It would just be better to feed raw organs etc. That’s how they have thrived for many many years
Yes I hear ya.My 12 lb. chihuahua does not do well on 1/2 teaspoon.I think it is too hard on his pancreas .He gets slick from it.He can handle fat in liver in small amounts,in the meat but the oil causes an inflammatory reaction..too strong or something
I would never deliberately put my dog on a fast but she does it herself! She will sometimes not eat for days even though she has food in her bowl. All my previous dogs wolfed their food immediately it was put out but Daisy takes all day sometimes to eat her food. She likes to take out pieces and put them on the rug in the dinning room. Once she has at least 3 pieces she will eat them! She won’t drink tap water so I tried filtered water neither was acceptable and she got dehydrated. I finally tried Evian! I finally have to top her water bowl up regularly. I told my vet who fell about laughing calling her a diva. She is a tiny (4kg) Bichon! 😂😂

Jenn you only want about to feed around 20-25% protein. if you feed raw meat then around 75% of it is water and pretty much everything else is protein. so if you're feeding a raw diet (like PMR) then it's almost impossible to feed too much protein. but if your food is made in a lab then things get complicated. first off if you're drying the food like most lab made dog foods do, then you need at least 30% starch in order for the little kibble rocks to hold their shape through the drying process. that leaves you 70% of the food that can be stuff other than starch, and none of it can be water because you dried it out already. now if you decide to make all the rest of it protein then what you've done is create a dried food that is dangerously high in protein.
what about dogs that have very high numbers of pancreatitis, my dogs numbers were 1,947 - Feb6/7;2024 he should have probably died but he didn't. He was on tripe, beef/bison with organs & bones - mixed with a bit of turkey/organ/bones; since the librela shot that he took on December 14, 2023, he's got all the bad symptoms; he fell coming up the stairs the following day, then he ate some Christmas cookies/white bark on December 23rd, felt groggy - vet on 24th; they did xrays blamed this on his hip dysplasia, sent home with gabapentin, 31st same thing, charged me more for xrays, sent us home, then Ataxia kicked in, his left side had foot rolling, paralysis for 3-4 days, went to chiropractor was okay everyv3rd visit, so my fog wanted to walk, wed go for to long, then he felt icky again, he's been lame since the 18th of March;, Feb 9th he went in for blood work For pancreatitis check and anything else blood related kidneys liver Etcetera. Then on the following Monday I was back in again because he hadn't peed and pooped for a few days since Wednesday and I asked if they could see if he had a blockage in his intestines they told me that his pancreatitis numbers were 1947 and that I should put him down that day fast forward to today I haven't put him down he has finally started to eat and drink on his own and he's lifting his head up a little bit on his own. I did go to a different vet and she did a full body check on him and feels like there might be a slipped disk maybe in his neck as to what's kind of causing him from not wanting to stand up. TL;DR If you're dog is on an appropriate diet without carbohydrates, if you see the dogs getting fat, you can just skip a meal for your dog. Also, you should probably only be feeding them once per day maximum.
a dogs health should be better than their owners health because the owner should be able to control their diet a LOT easier than themselves. the dog is forced to discipline themselves while we have to muster the discipline within ourselves.... which most people fail at..hence why majority of the worlds population is unhealthy.

Hello all! Please help! To research which dog food is best for dogs and puppies is not easy, millions of dog food brands and products in the market and hard to know which of them is real best and safe. I got my puppy just this year, we tried pedigree blue buffalo canned food, but we heard that its really bad for puppies, so I tried the blue freedom canned food he eats few of it only, then blue wilderness canned food but he eats few only, then I tried the blue buffalo dried food for him the pink one packaging, he doesn't like to eat it, so I tried to put his dried blue buffalo in the blender to make it powdery so i can mix it with his canned foods. He started to have mild vamit, but I still gave him that foods in one month while searching which puppy food is best for him. It's painful to see him vamiting even though its mild, then one day I found a dog in a stranger car because that dog was barking, then when I saw the owner, we talked a little and I asked her what dog food she feed her, she said that its iams, so the iams is started in my mind. But before that, I talked to my puppy's vet and asked her what dog food I can give to my puppy, she recommended me the royal canin dried food, iams, or purina proplan dried food, then I emedeitely bought the iams canned food and royal canin dried food for small poodle puppy, then I feed that food to him as his dinner at night, he eat them a little, but on the next day in the morning after I give it to him as his breakfast, he vamit twice and it seems not mild to me, so I had to stopped to feed him the iams and royal canin, my heart is so freaking breaking! I cooked hamburger with few rice for his dinner, he loves to eat it without handfeed, and no vamit, but I remember the vet told us that dried food is important because it has good nutritions in them, so on his next day I mixed his hamburger with few rice to his blue buffalo dried food, after I feed that to him, he vamit again. I did go back to his blue buffalo dried food because his vamit was mild only before, but when I feed him back with his blue buffalo seems not mild anymore. Then I called the hospital today, told them that he vamit but his not acting having sick really sick, a little lose energy only but still playful, and I asked what should I feed to my puppy, they recommended me boiled chicken with rice in few days then slowly to go back to his puppy food, if he will vamit again they will inject him to stop his vamits. Right now I'm still searching which puppy food I should give to my puppy. 😢 its so hard and very really not easy, I dont want him to get sick and lose him, he is just a puppy 4 months old, I want him to be always happy and healthy to live really long years. Yes it can if you are not slowly introduce him to fasting. It's depends a lot on dogs character, I was heard some dogs was started chewing stuffs and some was a bit nervous towards other pets. If you slowly get him used to, it will be fine.

My dog was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and she is freaking our over the Keto Diet I put my dog on. She claims I would be abusing sick dog by fasting it. I am concerned she will turn me in for abuse! What published science can I refer to? Help! She has prescribed eating every twelve hours for optimal insulin injections. So that is what I am doing! :-(
She also probably told you to give your dog Hills. Anyhow, you would not be abusing a dog. All mammals cells do autophagy if allowed to, so your vet should have already understood that. The study Dave Asprey is talking about was first conducted in rats and applied to humans, it does work on dogs as well. There is a ton of science behind it, like a ton. Do the research yourself. Get other vet's opinion, and try to find one that won't have you buy Hills diet. Progressively switching your dog from bad kibble to great kibble to homemade to raw food will do wonders for your dog. Keep giving your dog great food and keep track of the results with blood/urine tests, weight and behavior.
I love your reply. In the human world they say these are all animal studies, what human trials are there on many aspects that David looks into (although for fasting there are now enough human epi data gathered). The animal studies are not usually dogs though. Usually mice, monkeys etc. If your pet is taking insulin listen to your vet as even in the human world of fasting they say if you are taking insulin beware as it can kill you. You need to do it with your Dr and reduce the insulin. If you want to look at researchers look up Valter Longo as a start he has many studies on diabetes and fasting.

NEVER fast cats, kittens and puppies unless your vet says so. Kittens and cats especially, their system can shut down and even if it doesn't shut down, their organs will be affected.
This entire video made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Seems like he's promoting his coffee again and his other products. But other than that all I got from it was one day a week no food for the dog which is nothing new to me dogs can go two or three days without food just like humans.
Seem like you've fed him too much junkfood. When a dog fasts his body gets energy for cleaning itself out. If your dog's body does not clean itself out now through fasting then your dog might get really sick later on. Get rid of the source of his disease which is probably the junkfood that he's eating. I do not know what you're feeding him but just so you know kibble for dogs is typically extremely unhealthy. In fact most dog food is very unhealthy. Dog food often contains waste by-products from other industries and is used as a profitable method of getting rid of that waste. It's also often layered with unhealthy flavouring because otherwise the dog would not eat the waste. So in that case it's toxic waste that the dog would normally not eat flavoured with toxic waste meant to trick the dog into eating it. Best is just to give your dog raw fruit and lean raw meat. Especially the fruit is important since dogs are not carnivores, they're omnivores. And do not combine fruit and meat because fruit needs a alkaline stomach to be digested while meat needs an acid stomach. The stomach cannot be alkaline and acid at the same time, fruit and meat do not mix well.
@@oneheckofabanana2016 He eats the best food I could find in Canada which is Orijen. What I read that some dogs have their stomach irritated by the stomach fluids if not eating for long time. If I don't feed him in the morning or if he doesn't eat more than 13 hours he will most likely vomit.
@@shantilul Mine also starts vomiting bile if you miss his breakfast by an hour. He's fed raw, high quality food. And he's food obsessed and gluttonous. Possibly due to the fact that he is a rescue and went through some starvation as a pup. Don't know if it's a physical or psychological thing with him.
@@genevievenevala From what I found online it's physical, when the stomach is empty for too long and there's too much bile it will irritate the stomach and trigger vomiting. And the best way to avid it is to feed them 2 times a day. I try to feed him every 12 hours, so 7-8am and 7-8pm. My dog is a rescue too but I didn't see any psychological cause on my research so far.

But before that, I talked to my puppy's vet and asked her what dog food I can give to my puppy, she recommended me the royal canin dried food, iams, or purina proplan dried food, then I emedeitely bought the iams canned food and royal canin dried food for small poodle puppy, then I feed that food to him as his dinner at night, he eat them a little, but on the next day in the morning after I give it to him as his breakfast, he vamit twice and it seems not mild to me, so I had to stopped to feed him the iams and royal canin, my heart is so freaking breaking! I cooked hamburger with few rice for his dinner, he loves to eat it without handfeed, and no vamit, but I remember the vet told us that dried food is important because it has good nutritions in them, so on his next day I mixed his hamburger with few rice to his blue buffalo dried food, after I feed that to him, he vamit again. I did go back to his blue buffalo dried food because his vamit was mild only before, but when I feed him back with his blue buffalo seems not mild anymore. Then I called the hospital today, told them that he vamit but his not acting having sick really sick, a little lose energy only but still playful, and I asked what should I feed to my puppy, they recommended me boiled chicken with rice in few days then slowly to go back to his puppy food, if he will vamit again they will inject him to stop his vamits. Right now I'm still searching which puppy food I should give to my puppy. 😢 its so hard and very really not easy, I dont want him to get sick and lose him, he is just a puppy 4 months old, I want him to be always happy and healthy to live really long years. Today I bought the orijen for puppies, I opened it and let him smells it for few minutes, but not giving him yet as his food, Im giving him boiled chicken with few rice for now, Im still searching if this orijen for puppies is really safe and best. 😢 My puppy is a small poodle. My Vet is totally against this. Says "no science" behind this. What links can you provide that show the Human studies are transferable to dogs and cats? My dog was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and she is freaking our over the Keto Diet I put my dog on. She claims I would be abusing sick dog by fasting it. I am concerned she will turn me in for abuse! What published science can I refer to? Help! She has prescribed eating every twelve hours for optimal insulin injections. So that is what I am doing! :-(

She also probably told you to give your dog Hills. Anyhow, you would not be abusing a dog. All mammals cells do autophagy if allowed to, so your vet should have already understood that. The study Dave Asprey is talking about was first conducted in rats and applied to humans, it does work on dogs as well. There is a ton of science behind it, like a ton. Do the research yourself.
Get other vet's opinion, and try to find one that won't have you buy Hills diet. Progressively switching your dog from bad kibble to great kibble to homemade to raw food will do wonders for your dog. Keep giving your dog great food and keep track of the results with blood/urine tests, weight and behavior.
I love your reply. In the human world they say these are all animal studies, what human trials are there on many aspects that David looks into (although for fasting there are now enough human epi data gathered). The animal studies are not usually dogs though. Usually mice, monkeys etc. If your pet is taking insulin listen to your vet as even in the human world of fasting they say if you are taking insulin beware as it can kill you. You need to do it with your Dr and reduce the insulin. If you want to look at researchers look up Valter Longo as a start he has many studies on diabetes and fasting.

Seem like you've fed him too much junkfood. When a dog fasts his body gets energy for cleaning itself out. If your dog's body does not clean itself out now through fasting then your dog might get really sick later on. Get rid of the source of his disease which is probably the junkfood that he's eating. I do not know what you're feeding him but just so you know kibble for dogs is typically extremely unhealthy. In fact most dog food is very unhealthy. Dog food often contains waste by-products from other industries and is used as a profitable method of getting rid of that waste. It's also often layered with unhealthy flavouring because otherwise the dog would not eat the waste. So in that case it's toxic waste that the dog would normally not eat flavoured with toxic waste meant to trick the dog into eating it. Best is just to give your dog raw fruit and lean raw meat. Especially the fruit is important since dogs are not carnivores, they're omnivores. And do not combine fruit and meat because fruit needs a alkaline stomach to be digested while meat needs an acid stomach. The stomach cannot be alkaline and acid at the same time, fruit and meat do not mix well.
@@oneheckofabanana2016 He eats the best food I could find in Canada which is Orijen. What I read that some dogs have their stomach irritated by the stomach fluids if not eating for long time. If I don't feed him in the morning or if he doesn't eat more than 13 hours he will most likely vomit.
@@shantilul Mine also starts vomiting bile if you miss his breakfast by an hour. He's fed raw, high quality food. And he's food obsessed and gluttonous. Possibly due to the fact that he is a rescue and went through some starvation as a pup. Don't know if it's a physical or psychological thing with him.
@@genevievenevala From what I found online it's physical, when the stomach is empty for too long and there's too much bile it will irritate the stomach and trigger vomiting. And the best way to avid it is to feed them 2 times a day. I try to feed him every 12 hours, so 7-8am and 7-8pm. My dog is a rescue too but I didn't see any psychological cause on my research so far.
