@@jaydhillon4960 It'll be interesting to see if that holds true. I suppose the biggest issue is temperature. Unmodified, the CPU and GPU can get up to 95°C which is very hot. The fan covers wha? I love the smell of bs in the morning. So that plastic suffocates the laptop and raises the component temps and voids the warranty if you remove them....
aaahm actually it makes perfect sense to have them since those grills are intake grills not output and when air comes in the plastic sheets slightly lift up and let the air come in, this video explains it so bad, Im sorry that people watch this and then get the wrong idea. Those are there just to keep the intake filtered kind of from taking in large pieces of dust and other things you don't want in your laptop.
@@gokalpcetin4763 Holy shit cant believe people actually buy into this shit. The grills exist on the intel variant without any shitty cover in the back, but they expect to undermine the performance of the 4800h by using it. How tf does a 100% opaque piece of plastic work as filter?
@@prathamdave5849 Yea, I found his comment odd too. I have also seen both in person. It's the same vents, with exception of covers applied to the AMD variants. Wonder why they did this? ;)
Excellent review, literally the best I have seen yet. PLeasant surroundings, described everything, pros and cons, especially the screen and graphics editing. Kinda of torn between this one and spending a bit more. I have a desktop with Ryzen 5 3600x and Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB and it's great. Trying to find a laptop comparable since mine is a loner.
Trying to stay with Ryzen, I am looking for a laptop that will give me excellent gaming and editing abilities. I play via HDMI to TV, so 15” screen is s fine. Suggestions since you are knowledgeable? Thanks
You have to unscrew the bottom cover like shown in this video. For the covers, you would have to use a thin flathead tool to pry off the metal parts holding the black plastic covers. I took out both the metal cover and the plastic cover. This worked well for the laptop’s performance and was worth it for me. But yeah if you haven’t bought this laptop I just wouldn’t.
Nice review, also kudos for factoring in the height of the laptop in your review, a small but good to know detail a lot of other reviewers don't usually add into their reviews
This was a perfect review. Thank you so much. I’m considering this laptop (spec’d the exact same) or a P1 Gen 3. I’m now leaning towards the thinkpad because of the single ram slot, lack of camera, less color accurate display, high temps, and slightly less ram, even if it is around $150 dollars cheaper. What are your thoughts on the P1 Gen 3?
@@TechTesters The Thinkpad's primary use is for workstation things such as Solidworks or other similar applications. This means that the P1 Gen 3 has a Quadro GPU. I currently am looking at one with an i7-10750h, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, Quadro T1000 Max-Q (about the same performance as a GTX 1650), and a 1080p 60hz display that is pretty bright and color accurate. I've done a little bit more research since posting that comment, and it seems to me that a P1 Gen 3 will stay just a few degrees cooler, but the AMD performance and a GTX 1660 TI is a very tempting offer (at a lower price, too). The only drawbacks that I see to the Zephyrus is heat, lack of webcam, and single ram slot, which means that the maximum possible ram is 24gb running in single-channel mode (assuming I understood everything correctly). What are your thoughts on the matter, if any? Sorry I kinda typed a whole essay.
Given that Asus tuf a15 1660ti model which starts at a mere 1000$ with Ryzen 4800h instead 4800hs in the g15 which costs 1250$, given that both have displays with 60% srgb which one should I buy? Between how bad is 60%srgb in real life?
I bought this laptop 4 days ago and have to say it runs like a champ so far. I had no problem playing Hitman 2 on the highest settings and the processor blazes through games like football manager all countries loaded (most are view only) and total war games. I checked the temp on Armoury crate at times and the highest temps I saw were between 85-87c. The fans are loud and ran around 45db max. Overall I love it but have to caveat I also have a MacBook and really only use the Asus for gaming. If I could only have one laptop I probably wouldn’t buy this because of the lack of webcam and color accuracy but as a secondary laptop used entirely for gaming it’s absolutely fantastic.
Once again, great review like always. And also would you guys review the new MSI GS66? I really need to know it's temps and battery life for i am a student and also a competitive gamer
Just picked up the last year GU502GV last week on sale with RTX 2060 and 9750H 240HZ 16 Gb 512 gb variant, So far its good running all the demanding titles on high settings and giving decent thermals on fan settings set to windows. And I am sure there won't be hardly any more than 10 FPS difference if I would have gotten the newer version so save yourself some bucks and pick the last year version instead.
Always a catch. Asus lower end have bad screens. Msi gs66 looks amazing but very expensive for its specs. And they have well known build quality issues! Lenovo seems to be the best overall in the budget region
I'm not actually too fussed about the colour accuracy for myself, but the response times on the 144Hz panels used on Intel based Asus laptops have been great and since the colour accuracy in them was better than this I can only guess it's not the same panel model. I don't understand why they didn't just use the same bloody panels :(
Maybe they are not confident with AMD processor for laptop yet, i think they are still "testing the waters" before they fully give in with better screen and non maxq gpu.
Glad that you mentioned the 144hz panel downside as i was about to get this laptop for autocad, illustrator, gaming and day trading . It would be a let down if I had not seen your review , thx heaps!!
you have definitely got the price wrong. I’ve watched a few videos and checked some websites and the 240 Hz RTX 2060 Ryzen 7 4800HS version costs 1399$.
great review. i just got one of these in may. i did not get a warranty with best buy and i might just go ahead and open it and remove those fan covers in a few months
Nice review cheers! Waiting for G14/G15 to start popping up for sale in New Zealand and Australia, keen to buy one just need to decide which one and with what specs.
Hi there, Can I ask you, if you would choose this laptop over the Razer Blade Base model? This one with 240hz and 2070 gtx. Razer with 144hz and 1660 gtx. Same price range. Have a nice day :-)
Watched your review before i bought a G15 with R9 4900H and Rtx2060 max Q 3 month's ago, since I was confused whether to get G14 or G15. so far I'm satisfied with how it performs while gaming and working.
Very good and detailed review. I'm still not understanding why Asus is using MAX Q graphics card even in their bigger 15 inch chassis. For 14 inch chassis, I can understand the reason of thermal constrains but for 15.6 chassis, this does not make any sense at all.
Minor correction at around the 3:00 mark: Zephyrus laptops are actually metal. I don't know if they keyboard deck is covered in thick paint or if it's just a plastic shell, but if you open the laptop and peak underneath near the battery and trackpad area, you can see it's made of a magnesium unibody.
There's definitely metal in the chassis, but the final feel (whether due to an extra layer, or the paint) remains plastic-y. Not sure how much it matters in the end, but it does become a bit complicated to talk about :D
@@TechTesters it certainly is a complicated subject, just thought it was worth mentioning as in my personal experience, plastic chassis don't last as long. Still a great review and I hope my comments don't come off the wrong way
Man I have to subscribe to your channel. You're like the only one who got the MSI Bravo reviewed and now you got the G15? Subscribed! I would get a Bravo IF the screen improves for a productivity device. Mainly music production. My current laptop is a Whiskey Lake quad core i5 that runs well enough (I tested it in Cinebench). But for heavier tasks, I wouldn't mind having the power of that Ryzen.
Thanks! :) For music production though, does 60% sRGB hurt? I know it sounds low, but in reality it's not that huge a difference imho until you get to color critical work.
Bought the 1660Ti version which went on sale in memex for $130 off last week. They sold LOTS in store. It's really good as an all arounder, minimal design and doesn't scream "HEY I'M A GAMER LOOK AT ME" like the TUF A15.
Whats was the SSD drive in there? The previous version had an Intel 660p SSD and it's performance was terrible in Windows 10 unless you turned off System Protection. I'm not a fan of any gaming laptop having soldered in RAM. 16 GB is the minimum for today, but in the future, I can see 32 GB being more ideal, plus I like to get a good combination of speed with the lowest CAS latency possible. Were you able to see the CAS Latency of the soldered RAM?
Wonder why the vents are blocked? Why does the *AMD* version with 144hz display uses a panda display 144hz 20ms 56%srgb colour accuracy? Why the intel version has unblocked vents, great 144hz display 3ms 100%srgb colour accuracy?
This. Fuck this Asus G15, horrible temps, silent mode has abysmal performance, basically either way you're fucked using it lmao. Either loud airplane-jet with good performance or silent with terrible fps.
Hello! Great reviews and channel, very interesting to watch. I'm currently looking for a gamer/creation laptop and I'm hesitating between the Asus M15 240Hz and RTX 2060 and the MSI Stealth (with the RTX 2070 Max-Q). I'm concerned and the heat and 4k videos editing performances. Which one would you recommend (or do you have any other suggestion perhaps)? Thanks a lot!
Just bought this laptop mainly because you also showed the 2nd M2 slot and benchmarks :) My first AMD pc since the early 00s and a good upgrade from the 7700HQ
I frankly just wouldn’t recommend this one because of the vent covers. I removed my covers and the performance improved significantly, but just buy a different laptop without this flaw.
Wow,what a wonderful pc review! Your video is better than most of the pc review video in Chinese website. You succinctly tell us about the perforence and appearence about this G15,which give me such a good impression.Thank for your afford!
Thanks! I can't see a mentioned response time. Feels pretty similar to most recent panels, so I'd assume it's 3-5 as well. As for the speakers, they're "meh". Good enough for informative videos, not something to really get excited over, watch movies on or play games with. Grab a headset for gaming for sure.
Anandtech was saying that on their unit there's a bug where the display stays at 120 Hz even during desktop use, causing the Nvidia GPU to fire up and use more battery than necessary. Did you encounter the same issue? Did you try testing it at 60Hz
This is best laptop review i have seen. i have ordered Asus zephyrus G15 Ryzen 4800H version. so more performance... was removing covers from fan good idea?
I still stand by removing the covers. Still a warranty risk though, but wait a bit, I was talking to ASUS about how they would handle warranty cases with covers removed.
Hey, Great review. I heard the zephyrus G15 would emit a lot of fan noise and become quite loud while gaming. Any ideas about that? Would it be too loud/annoying to use in an office setting?
Thanks! It's quite loud in gaming while in turbo or performance mode, the results for Turbo are in the video. But that goes for every gaming laptop ever. But! It has a fan-stop mode in idle/low power use, so it's almost completely silent in office use! :)
i just got the laptop its wonderful thx for the review but since i can't take out the battery should i use it plugged all the time or take out the charge when its fully charged
Have you seen the G14 and G15 next to each other? I like the form factor, better color accurate 240Hz display and upgradability of the G15. But the plastic keyboard deck and plastic bottom case concern me (I've had plastic laptops in the past and they don't wear well). I like that both the G14 and G15 are fairly slim and doesn't have the childish gamer PC design. I wonder if any other manufacturers might make a more premium, magnesium or aluminum build with similar specs, slim and not screaming gamer PC.
Hey Techtester, do you have a 2021 review of this unit w all the AMD hardware installed? I’ll wait for a response before I buy and subscribe!! Trying to decide what the differences are: i. e. Zephyrus vs Strix vs Gigabyte etc. etc.
Hi i want ask one quesion... Its god idea to buy this notebook or not? I want somethink with i can du school workout and huge fps games.. Its laptop good for this? :)
Hello, thank you so much for the review And it's been really helpful, just a few questions: 1. I had seen a review somewhere else where the host said the 1660ti was bottle necked by the Ryzen CPU and ram? So is this true in this laptop? And how does the fps get affected if it is? How is the Wifi on this? I'll be gaming + programming on this laptop so I'll need a pretty good speed? Thank you
There will always be some games that are more CPU heavy than GPU heavy. But as a whole, no this is not a CPU bottlenecked machine in the majority of games. Also, if you get a good WiFi 6 router, yeah this'll go really fast on WiFi ;)

Wonder why they did this? ;)
@@gokalpcetin4763 Nope!
Thanks
For editting you'll want that sRGB gamut. 240Hz G15 should be a good choice there. But I can't judge other models I haven't seen yet.
Can you make a video on how to remove the fan vent blocks without damaging any other components?
Just dont buy this laptop
You have to unscrew the bottom cover like shown in this video. For the covers, you would have to use a thin flathead tool to pry off the metal parts holding the black plastic covers. I took out both the metal cover and the plastic cover. This worked well for the laptop’s performance and was worth it for me.
But yeah if you haven’t bought this laptop I just wouldn’t.
Nice review, also kudos for factoring in the height of the laptop in your review, a small but good to know detail a lot of other reviewers don't usually add into their reviews
Loved the * disclaimer you put on the advert in huge letters .. 🤣
I don't know the P1, does it have gaming specs at all? I like Thinkpads in general though, but mostly as durable office laptops.
Your hair looks wonderful. I'm guessing hair salons are still open in the Netherlands?
Oh I wish! They are all closed, unfortunately. DIY :)
Given that Asus tuf a15 1660ti model which starts at a mere 1000$ with Ryzen 4800h instead 4800hs in the g15 which costs 1250$, given that both have displays with 60% srgb which one should I buy?
Between how bad is 60%srgb in real life?
Okay time to go down the rabbit hole with this channel and see what’s up haha
I think I will buy ROG Zephyrus G15 or ROG Zephyrus G14. Which one should I buy?
G15 for sure.
How the heck are people getting these laptops retail? I want to buy one, but it looks like I'll have to wait until at least May.
They have stores
@@S1nw1th1n i was pretty close to picking that one up for $1350, but I think I will wait instead.
I got mine the day that Newegg put them for sale, I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and I absolutely love it, it flies

Hi what about alienware m15 r3 you think is a good laptop? Thanks so much for your reviews
Seems to be a theme with these AMD laptops so far: hobbled with sub-optimal screens :(
Always a catch. Asus lower end have bad screens. Msi gs66 looks amazing but very expensive for its specs. And they have well known build quality issues!
Lenovo seems to be the best overall in the budget region
the 240Hz should be much better color wise!
I think they do that to achieve the price point.
Good review! Been thinking about buying this or the G14 version when they come out. Might go for this one because of the bigger display.
And much better screen response time!
@@gianmarcopow-sang8690 so does the G15 have confirmed better response time for the screen than the G14 on the 1080p 120/144Hz screens?

Glad that you mentioned the 144hz panel downside as i was about to get this laptop for autocad, illustrator, gaming and day trading . It would be a let down if I had not seen your review , thx heaps!!
you have definitely got the price wrong. I’ve watched a few videos and checked some websites and the 240 Hz RTX 2060 Ryzen 7 4800HS version costs 1399$.
Shubham Shakya that’s the US region. She is talking about prices in the EU region, which can have quite a big difference in retail prices.
Thanks for calling out thermals and the screen. Good honest review 👍

great review. i just got one of these in may. i did not get a warranty with best buy and i might just go ahead and open it and remove those fan covers in a few months
Nice review cheers!
Waiting for G14/G15 to start popping up for sale in New Zealand and Australia, keen to buy one just need to decide which one and with what specs.
Fantastic review, but what is the sound quality like?
Hi there,
Can I ask you, if you would choose this laptop over the Razer Blade Base model?
This one with 240hz and 2070 gtx.
Razer with 144hz and 1660 gtx.
Same price range.
Have a nice day :-)
First review of the laptop! thanks!
Love your plants!! As a landscape designer I appreciate to see also the nice gaming laptop
Watched your review before i bought a G15 with R9 4900H and Rtx2060 max Q 3 month's ago, since I was confused whether to get G14 or G15.
so far I'm satisfied with how it performs while gaming and working.
Nice, enjoy it 😁
Just discovered this channel. Keep up the good job!
Very good and detailed review. I'm still not understanding why Asus is using MAX Q graphics card even in their bigger 15 inch chassis. For 14 inch chassis, I can understand the reason of thermal constrains but for 15.6 chassis, this does not make any sense at all.
I haven't seen the G14 yet, but I assume they put more money into the cooling?
@@TechTesters G14 is also having RTX 2060 Max Q but the considering the form factor, that's expected.
Still a great review and I hope my comments don't come off the wrong way
Hi

Please help...
Svaka cast na prezentaciji. Ove godine u svakom slucaju kupujem AMD Renoir laptop, pa cekam vase buduce testove. Hvala.
Thanks! :)
For music production though, does 60% sRGB hurt? I know it sounds low, but in reality it's not that huge a difference imho until you get to color critical work.
Bought the 1660Ti version which went on sale in memex for $130 off last week. They sold LOTS in store. It's really good as an all arounder, minimal design and doesn't scream "HEY I'M A GAMER LOOK AT ME" like the TUF A15.
Enjoy! 😁
First time watching this channel, I love the review, subscribed.
Great video Nada!
great review, thanks for posting so fast
Is this laptop good for architecture students in running autocad sketchup lumion etc.? I really appreciate the reply. Thank you so much.
I dont know lumion, but it should handle most tasks. Just if you need accurate colors, you'll have to consider the 240hz panel.
Just bought this laptop mainly because you also showed the 2nd M2 slot and benchmarks :) My first AMD pc since the early 00s and a good upgrade from the 7700HQ
What is Panel's Response Time ?

How are the thermals while gaming?
Due to Easter I will receive the laptop coming Tuesday/Wednesday. Very excited.
Have you noticed any throttling issues? Thinking of buying one myself.

Which one would you prefer for high spec games?
Great review. I'll definitely be investigating the thermals more before making a purchase decision.

I frankly just wouldn’t recommend this one because of the vent covers. I removed my covers and the performance improved significantly, but just buy a different laptop without this flaw.

Just bought it. This laptop is beast! Its nice!
Anandtech was saying that on their unit there's a bug where the display stays at 120 Hz even during desktop use, causing the Nvidia GPU to fire up and use more battery than necessary. Did you encounter the same issue? Did you try testing it at 60Hz
Maybe there was a bios update before they tested this version?
Crystal clear video even in low res. You got a great camera.
@@TechTesters waiting 👌

Hi i want ask one quesion...
Its god idea to buy this notebook or not?
I want somethink with i can du school workout and huge fps games..
Its laptop good for this? :)
Hello, thank you so much for the review And it's been really helpful, just a few questions:
@@TechTesters Thank you so much! It means a lot :))
