  • Once again we travel down the path of Auction Regret as more stuff finds its way into the bed of my truck... But, who am I to argue against prices so low? This old Jiffy Ice auger was too good to pass up.

    Nothing on this thing is scrap as you could part it out on Ebay and fetch 35 bucks just for the carb. I have a model 30 jiffy from the 60s. It still runs awesome! Originally a "one arm bandit" these things last forever.

    Best line. "Definitely keeps people from wanting to borrow it." That was just too funny man. Having a lot of fun watching your vids. That's the best part of just finding your channel the other day, lots of content I ain't seen yet. *:-)*

    There was a recent article on these by Dave Pender. If the Carb flange has an embossed F on it, the diaphragm goes next to the carb, not the gasket. I suspect you got it correct.

      Cool, good to know. I always tilted the auger to the side when priming to keep the fuel from dumping out.

    Love the auctions! Shoot, I paid $80 plus 20% fees for one about the same condition without stinkbugs! Only has the low speed adjustment. Just cleaned the carb and hope to punch the ice tomorrow.... heck , you paid less than I pay for a pint of Guiness. Bet you mix that xmas beer with that old petro and ya gots drinkability!

    I own four jiffys. I just can't pass them up when the price is right. And I'm sure smoking two stroke engines and the overall noise level piss off liberals. During trips to Canada I've experienced "two extension years" where my model 30 blazes through the ice with no problem while others are sidelined.

    Well, new diaphragm and welch plug, cleaned the sealed high speed jet (may have damaged the check valve with torch tip cleaner? DAMN!) and it doesn't seem to want to wind the rpm's up except when you initially hit it. Acting just like yours did........hmmm may be time for a Chinese carb

    I wish I could get Yuengling *easy* where I live. Used to drink it every time I visited my relatives in New Jersey. They're all gone to the great big beer tent in the sky now so I don't get it unless I happen to drive 2 plus hours to a place that sells it. Too many beers closer to home if ya know what I mean. Haven't had it in a long while now so I don't know if it's still as good as I thought it was then. Does that make any sense?

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  4 роки тому

      Haha, I hear ya. I like it cause it's semi-local, tastes good, and is usually pretty affordable. I would recommend Straub American Amber if you ever see it, since you like yeungling.

    I just got my one armed bandit going today. Parts took 2 weeks to get her to Alaska from someplace lower 48, put new elect package with magneto and points condenser. Forgot to order a spark plug, but got it going after probably 25 years of sitting in an army storage here in alaska. what do you recomend for low speed screw and high speed ?

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  5 років тому

      Nice! I usually start at 3/4 - 1 turn out for both screws, then adjust from there. High speed screw has to be adjusted on the ice with a load on the engine, otherwise the governed makes it hard to reach full throttle

  • @samrichardson3851

    Is it possible to still get blades for these old augers?

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  Рік тому

      I believe you still can. These blades are pretty simple though, usually straight and sharpened on one side, easy to get sharp again with a stone or file.

  • @packofhounds
    @packofhounds 5 років тому

    Did you end up also adjusting the high speed screw? Sounded a bit boggy and 4 stroking. Would probably need a 3rd hand to do it on an auger.

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  5 років тому

      Not yet, it's hard to do the high speed on these engines unless you can put a good load on the engine. The governer just cuts the throttle back when you pull the lever, that makes it sound choppy. Will have to wait for ice for final tuning, haha.
