    Two-funnels-tastic mate! I had an epiphany a few years back - I bought Slinky Glide clutch cable for my Blade when Fowlers had the OEM one on back order - thinking I'd put OEM back on when it turned up - I realised however when it finally arrived that the Slinky was actually better quality and not just half the price - been using and will use their cables ever since! Great job. Go safe!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому

      Hi Mike, that's been my experience too with Slinky Glide, a few viewers are saying they've had issues, but personally, like you, mine have always been a quality upgrade over the standard and a better price, best of both worlds, but then we always know that OEM stuff can be overpriced purely because they can get away with it, but let's not go there aye lol Keep safe and well there and ride safe.

    Those look like the same denso coils on my ZX9r. ✌🏻. Experiences always vary. I didn’t have a positive one with Slinky Glide. The clutch cable was 3 cm too short and the throttle cables wouldn’t smoothly run through their casing without binding terribly. This is the second time I've seen you use what looks like an extra deep, perhaps modified socket to remove and install the spark plugs. Did you make that tool or is there someone who sells it? It would certainly make removal/installation of spark plugs on this motor so much easier.
    Thanks for taking the time to show just how extensive a restoration project should be and the level of care to do it right.
    Cheers.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому

      You're most welcome Sir, and that spark plug socket is an OEM tool from a Suzuki toolkit... the best spark plug sockets are the ones designed for the job by the manufacturer and they include them in the toolkit, they come with the rubber bung inside and as you can see, they reach perfectly but are still short enough to feed in to the centre hole under the frame tube... the Suzuki Bandit plug sockets actually have a hinge in the middle which is even more trick, you can probably buy them from the main dealer if you can't find one online!

    Interesting to see that the coil sticks stand a little higher here than on my Speed Triple. The coil seals are not quite making such a good seal (arguably) as I can see you had to slide them down revealing a slight gap/recess.
    I had the old seals on mine which have now been replaced. My plugs were in an appalling state.
    Advise to check condition of plugs once a year.
    Just an observation.

    Del, Interesting to watch your reassembly of the top end! One question is the coils, meaning you have removed the side mounted coils and installed individual spark plug coils. I am interested as I am restoring a 1995 Triumph TBird and would like to up grade my system.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому +1

      Yes Rick you have that right, you remove the 3 coils mounted on the frame tube with the HT leads as well, junk the whole lot, you fit the stick coils on top of the plugs and then plug in the low tension wires to the original coil feed harness... it all comes colour coded, ready to plug in, or you can cut the wires and solder them together if you prefer, contact Paul Messenger on Facebook for more info!

    Hi, serious question (I know, I like the shock value). Why did Triumph insist on fitting the engine's air filter within the most inaccessible part of the intake track? Great if you want to sell more engines than filters to your customers, but why not fit a nicely made 3-way plenum chamber jobbie that need not be disturbed, itself amply fed by smooth, flexible trunking from a generous filter lurking in some unseen yet more easily accessible locale?
    And as for where they stuck that 'Bent Zeppelin' spine tube . . . a little more Viagra & it could have been an Egli : ) xx

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому

      Hi Ben, modern casings are so flat and correct they can indeed go on dry, you could put a little grease on the gasket just to soften it and allow it to bed quicker in to the two faces, and that will also make it more removeable in the future!

      The advantages mate are you remove the HT lead and you fit the coil directly on top of the plug so there is zero resistance and a far heftier spark, they're not something you can make yourself, and check out Paul Messenger on Facebook, he makes them and can answer any questions you may have... and there are few Paul Messengers on there, he's the guy stood by the yellow Triumph in the avatar... hope that helps!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  3 роки тому +1

      Same as on your car mate these days, it puts the high tension coil directly on top of the spark plug with no HT lead... you'll notice a far heftier and brighter spark, more instant start up and a smoother tick over, specially if you're running old OEM HT leads as they break down over time... all engines run stick coils now pretty much, it's just a better and more direct way to feed power to the plugs!

      Hi Terry, I did use red rubber grease on the dust boots for the stick coils, yes. When you say head gasket, am presuming you actually mean the rubber rocker cover gasket? If you do, then the best thing for that is some proper RTV sealant as they're prone to leak on the left hand front corner. Hope that helps!

      There has been a lot of talk about COP (coil on plug) conversions on these carbed Triumphs. Apparently it's more successful on the 3 cylinders than on the 4s.
      I think it has something to do with the impedance of the coils and the fact that the 4 cylinder machines run 2 coils with each coil running 2 plugs with a wasted spark, whereas the 3 cylinders have a dedicated coil per cylinder. I think someone once said you have to use sticks with a higher impedance on the 4 cylinder engine than you do on the 3...? Not sure now, it was a long time ago.
      Similarly, there can be issues with switching to aftermarket air filters (K&N, Pipercross, pod filters etc) on the 4, but they can work quite nicely on the 3s.

      @@Dead_Assassin Great that you got it sorted. Did you get the COPs and stuff in a plug-&-play kit, or assemble stuff yourself? I have often thought about doing the same to my 94 Trophy 1200 but thought it wouldn't work, for the above-stated reasons. If yours works, I could go the same route. I have heard people use stick coils from the TT600, others say the ones from an R6.
