This is a companion video to my review video I did on my Zolo Liberty wireless earbuds by Anker shown here:
• Anker Zolo Liberty Wir...
I couldn't find these exact earbuds anymore because they're old like me but here's the upgraded ones for even cheaper!
amzn.to/2t7g8bG - Yes, I'll make a little money if you use this link to buy something. Thanks if you do! 😬
The same process can be used for most brands of earbuds on the market today. I hope this helps someone having any questions on cleaning steps they might take to ensure proper function of their wireless earbuds!
Not only did you help me with my earbuds, but you also sold me Q-tips.
🤣🤣👍

Target q-tips, to be specific 😂
LOVE THEM! ❤️
I love zolo liberty earbuds I've had the same pair for 2 years and it still works GREAT. but I've never cleaned them they are looking a little rough so I'm giving them a good clean thanks for the video
This was incredibly helpful! I genuinely was worried I was losing hearing in my right ear when my right earbud was sounding incredibly quiet. It turns out it was just that sound hole in need of a clean! Thank you!
Don't get it twisted you can get tinnitus from not cleaning them as well and of course from playing them too loudly. I'm on some ear and nostrils medication because of my ignorance.
So glad it helped!

Already have my man… long ago.
Great video! I'd recommend removing the tarnish (copper oxide) on the copper terminals using chemical means, rather than mechanical (scraping). This can lead to scraping of some of the underlying copper away with each cleaning, as copper is a relatively soft metal.
Any non-oxidizing acid will do the trick. I've found that HCl (pool cleaner) at ~30% concentration works best, by dipping a Q-tip in it and rubbing over the terminals. But since not everyone is comfortable with handling strong acids, acetic acid (vinegar) will do just as well. These acids dissolve the oxide, but are unreactive towards the underlying copper. In either case, rinse them with water after cleaning.
For getting rid of ear wax, electronic contact cleaner works slightly better than the isopropanol used in the video, but truthfully it's a really minor improvement. If you have some laying around (MG chemical 404 contact cleaner), might be worth testing it out.

I wouldn’t scratch those connectors with a knife. They have a thin layer of gold just on r the the surface for maximum conductivity. Once you scratch through that thin layer of gold foil, they will start to corrode immensely. Mostly because of the salt in your sweat, mixed with electrolyzes. I’ve noticed this a lot on my Apple chargers little gold fingers where you plug it into the phone. I have made the mistake of scratching the surface and those fingers will corrode and turn green and not take a charge anymore
I clean with alcohol then use a pencil eraser.
They lasted for a long time. I’ve since moved through several pairs and phones and now use Apple AirPods Pro. Love them!
I- you have no clue how happy I am that I don’t need to buy another pair of headphones!
Then my job is done here! 😉👍

I've been cleaning mine this way for the past year or so with alcohol and qtips. I always wondered if I should be doing it that way. Glad to see that I am! 😅 And your absolutely right about ear wax getting into the actual speaker. Alcohol works for all of it without ruining your earbuds. Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for watching Brooke.
Yay! this sure helped me deal with my own little scruffies. Thanks mate! cheers!
You bet! Thanks for watching! 😊
I was about to clean mine like you did just before I saw this video but the tip of the knife method made good sense and Voila! Smart man Schmidt! You remind me of John Goodman by the way.
Everyone has ALWAYS said I look like John Goodman. I worked in a hospital for a few years when I was young and one of the nurses stuffed a life-size Fred Flintstone in my locker as a joke. 😂😂👍 Glad my trick helped! 👌😊
Side note. When I gain a little more weight I start having lots more people say I look like John Goodman. When I lose weight, not so much. I really wear it in my face I guess. 😊
Does your wife look like Rosie? Here I bitched to the company where I bought mine and they're sending me an upgraded version of what I own. An early birthday present I guess. Now I'll have a backup 🙂
This really helped me today, thank you 🙏
Thanks for "Q tip" tip. The last ones I bought were rated great on amazon, and they actually broke under wimpy pressure.
Thanks , you helped me a lot to clean mine
Thanks man, you really helped out!
love the comment about cleaning your ears!!! thanks much very helpful information
That little comment has been the source of the most contention of this video... that and scraping the little connectors with my knife... Haha!
Dude WHAT! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I have tried EVERYTHING and I really didn’t think this would work but it did all I did was take it apart and I didn’t see anything so I just put it all back together and when I did that It ust started working like new again! Thanks man!
Super glad to hear it! Happy New Year to you and yours! 👍🎊

Cool video! Thanks
I bought myself JBL Vibe earbuds, but I think this will work just fine for me. The only thing is I use 70% ethanol for electronics, because that's the best they have in my local pharmacy. For all other electronics is great, should work for them too.
BRO FINALLY A VIDEO FROM AN IDAHOAN. Much love from Shelley Idaho

Really helpful
In moving I somehow lost my extra ear tips and then later lost the ear tips on my earbuds. So basically my ear buds were raw dogging my ears untill new ear tips came in the mail.I had wax inside those tiny holes in one side of my ear buds so I almost bought a new pair. thanks for this also if you have a syringe or some kind of small suction tool you can suck that junk right out then clean then the way this guy does.
Thanks all the Creator for recommending all my search topics

Thank you my earbuds are nice and clean now
Thankyou this worked , i used sanitizer and it worked so good , thankyou❤️
I don't have the same model but the alcohol qtip thing helped. Funny cuz it felt like I should know this but I didn't bother to do it. I thought it was defective or cuz it dropped out of my ears a couple times. I'm good again thanks mate
Glad it helped! 👍
Thank you so much. I was worried my right earbud was broken because it sounded much lower than the other one and no matter how much I cleaned it's still sounded lower... Just like a lot of problems in life it was just a matter of adding alcohol 🤣
Yup, especially ethanol. ;)
This really worked. I´m so happy it did because I was already thinking of sending them back to the Baseus. BTW, folks, give Baseus Bowie MA10 earbuds a try. They´re under 35 dollars and have the best quality sound and battery life. Thanks so much for this video and your help.

Griffin Benchmark I MY SELF AM NOT a big fan of putting things into my ears. like these ear buds. but this is a interesting video. thank you for doing this. Bobby
You bet! Thanks for watching! To be honest, I'm not crazy about ear buds either but I've just found that it makes my life easier when I'm on the go all the time or needing some ear protection in the garage. 👍

Skullcandy's sound surprisingly good.
@@GriffinBenchmark They do! They’re also a very good investment. I made that comment two years ago and my indy evos are still going pretty strong. 💪
Might this also help with a weaker sound coming from the more often used earbud?
I used tootbrush and everything working fine.
Maybe?
Will the connectors in the battery case not gonna break when you clean them with alcohol? As well as the small metal connectors in earbuds?
Didn't bother mine at all. I used those earbuds for over a year. Lost them , found them and then, finally, gave them away when I bought my new ones that I need to make a video about. Galaxy Buds +! 😊👍💯
A military doctor once scolded me for suggesting I have my earwax washed out. It’s grossness is to repel bugs. Some of which can cause real harm.
i am so so so desperate like i dont even think this matter but im most definitely gonna try it. like i am so lost its terrible i am in bad shape.
Great video so this is OK to use I thought you can't use any type of water base product to clean headphones?
I've been using this method for a long time on all my ear buds. It has never caused problems yet. It's just the way I do it. 👍
@@GriffinBenchmark Well my right earbud that I use all the time the volume in the ear seemed very low so I cleaned it and now it's much better
I love Anker Soundcore
I loved them for a long time but have gone through different brands and companies for phones, ear buds and everything else since this video. For the first time in my life, I'm carrying an iPhone now so I now have the AirPods Pro 2's. With that being said, I still clean everything the same way! Still no problems with any of the electronics or anything else using the methods I described here. Thanks for watching!
Nice video man
Just something simple... I'm not really a 'creator.' 😊 Thank you! 👍
thnx sir it help me
This video is concise and educational.
Thank you. Just an old redneck that likes clean things... including my ears! :)
When you cleaned the connectors with the knife I panicked XD bc I thought that doing it that was would damage them 😂 and I’m still not sure about it 😳😳
🤣🤣 Yeah, I've been doing that for a long time on all my earbuds now. Seems to work great! 😉👍💯
@@GriffinBenchmark I don't know much about earbuds but I just bought a pair that are real nice but for some reason when I use them with my Tablet they sound beautiful but when I use them with my phone I hear lots of static.
@@TheWilder30 I would try unpairing and repairing them with each device starting with the phone.
@@GriffinBenchmark I dont know much about earbuds specificly. But i have worked a lot on electrical components on motorcycles. And its common that there is some type of coating on the surfaces, scratching the surface may damage the coating. Like a metal coating to improve Connectivity
@@GriffinBenchmark Also using alcohol on cheaper silicone tips can stain them, in my experience. Not sure if it effects the higher quality ones, although since it’s something you don’t usually throw away even after the earbuds may break, hand soap works just as well. It can also stain or ”melt” some plastic shells. Happened on my jbl on ear headphones when i spilled som onto the right Shell. Since earbuds or headphones is something you dont have for more than a couple of years. You probably wont see any effect on using alcohol unless the plastig reacts right away. Most commonly something else Will break before. Great video
Is this also recommend for the Tozo T6 earbugs?
Not familiar with Tozo T6's
Actually don’t stick a quip in your ear, it only pushes the wax further
This is true for some people.
I hate the ear smell when i wear them and it moistened up luckily the silicone tip is washable i can keep it fresh and good smells
That sound hole is your speaker!! Or driver as it sometimes is referred by!!!
Sweet! Thanks!
So what magical property prevents the dirt from getting INSIDE the screen? And how would we clean that?
I don't think there's any magic that will prevent ear buds from eventually becoming disposable but this method appears to help.
Thanks, man! "Check, check." Do you do a lot of sound checks plugged into amps and monitors? Maybe rock a venue or something? Soundhole. It's like a musician displaced. LORD bless you
One more question LOL, not sure if you can answer it. I have been charging my earbud case with earbuds in it and the last white flashing light has been blinking for 4 hours ,? I'm assuming something's wrong. Maybe not I'm just not sure
Hmm, I would try resetting them by pushing and holding the buttons down until both LEDs turn pink. Release then turn them back on and insert them into the case. I had to do this with mine a few times but it always solved the issues. Hope this helps! 😊👍
@@GriffinBenchmark awesome thanks I'll try that
My right earbud stopped making sound and I'm pretty sure that some earwax got through the mesh and is stopping the bit from vibrating. Can I somehow clean that out?
That's a tough one. You'd think it would still make a little sound of some kind. It may be that they finally bit the dust? You could just try to keep cleaning it lightly with 70% isopropyl alcohol. It night come back?
@@GriffinBenchmark when I tapped it against the table a bit it started to work a bit but when I put it back in it stopped
@@rydersigmund6252 Sure sorry it's giving you problems. I hope it starts working for you.
@Nordin First, thank you for watching. I have a couple things I would tell you. 1. Be careful wearing them to bed. I have a good friend that ended up with a terrible ear canal infection from doing that. If you do wear them to bed, I would recommend washing your hands thoroughly and then gently wiping down the silicone tips with at least 50% isopropyl alcohol each night before you put them in for bed. 2. The Galaxy Buds really don't have that great of sound to begin with so you're right in saying they probably lose sound quality with even the slightest wax buildup. There are memory foam tips you can buy that have that protective mesh in them that you talked about with the Apple airpods. I've not tried them yet but I see mostly good reviews. As a side note, I tried the Apple airpods pro for a while and didn't like them. Aside from looking terrible in my ears, I wasn't impressed with their function with my Android phone. No surprise I guess. What I did like with them was the noise cancelling feature was very nice for tuning out my kids at times! 😊💯 Thanks for watching and best of luck!
could you make a video on reconnecting the two ear buds for me only one puts out sound
I would love to but I actually just recently and sadly lost my left bud! 👎 Now comes the task of finding replacements! I will be concentrating on call quality with my next buds. Specifically call quality in noisy environments.
This man just sold me some q tips
Amen! Best wax busters EVER! :)
the sound hole on my wf1000xm4 are packed with earwax, will isopropyl alcohol be good to clean it or will it ruin the sound, as I do not want to buy another pair ($280 USD)
I'd carefully pick it out with a needle first. You don't want to saturate anything with alcohol, it's just meant to be a light solvent/germ killer.
One stupid mistake I made was cleaning the ear tips with alcohol. Now, when I removed the earbuds from my ears, the ear tips are left inside my ears. Then I realized that the alcohol sagged the rubber/silicone and now they're loose.
I didn't have that problem. I always use alcohol on my ear tips? Strange...
What if I just dip the eartips and the wingtips into the alcohol? Is there any downbreak of doing it?
I'm sure that would be fine. The only drawback I can see to using alcohol on silicone and rubber is that it dries out there natural oils and makes them dry and brittle over time. There are cheap replacements though. Hope this helps!
@@GriffinBenchmark Thanks you so much for your help dude!
Small eraser is easier on the metal contacts than a metal knife. Could wear down the metal to point it doesn't make contact anymore. You DON"T CLEAN YOUR EARS WITH Q-TIPS
Never had a prob lightly scraping contacts with my knife... ever. Never had a problem cleaning my ears literally EVERY DAY with Q-TIPS for 50 years now... You do you.
Great advice in cleaning your bud's , minus the scratching the gold plated connectors , and the advice in using qtips in cleaning your ears , well doctors would 100 % disagree with you on that, and would tell you to use warm water and suck the melted wax with Syringe whith out the needle , other than that good video!!!
🤣🤣🤣 Just showing what's always worked for me. Do what you want. 👍
I don't have alcohol so how I can do that with any home accessories
Get alcohol.
What if I don’t have rubbing or isopropyl alcohol?
Amazon Brand - Solimo 91% Isopropyl Alcohol First Aid Antiseptic, 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1) a.co/d/jbzHKiX
One of my earbuds is crackling? Is this a cleaning problem, or is it to do with the sound being broken?
Hard to say. If it's still doing it after cleaning, I'm guessing it's time for a new pair.
Good tips.
But tell us about that little pocket knife.😅
That pocket knife is the original Benchmade 940. Loved that knife so much! I still have it. I've got the mini 940, several Bugouts and other more exotic Benchmades now. Absolutely love them all! My favorite is the mini 940 now.
Any alternatives for concentrated alcohol?
I've never used anything else.
Griffin Benchmark tried hand sanitizer and my earbuds still sound nice
I'm not sure I'd use hand sanitizer much. They use fillers to gel the alcohol and I'm guessing that would clog the very small ports in the buds. Over time this may hurt the performance.
Griffin Benchmark noted,I’ll try alcohol next time
Try vinegar.
Would wet wipes work?
Wet wipes can leave residue. I'd use the alcohol. 👍
I've found the "Q-tip" brand q tips are the worst! The ones I get at the dollar store are the best!
The last time I bought and used the q-tip brand when I opened the package they were still wet from the manufacturing process. That was the last box I ever bought.
Does it have to be a specific type of alcohol
Isopropyl to clean the ear buds and your choice of ethanol to consume and enjoy on the side while you do it. ;) - *Don't mix them up!!!! ;)
I have wireless earbuds from "heyday" and i somehow managed to stain them a bit badly, is there a way i can clean them?
Depends on what they were stained with.
Has anyone else tried rubbing the metal grate with the tips dipped in alcohol but it did not work for them? I can hardly hear from my ear bud and rubbing them did not help. Any suggestions?
@@kinanaldebei7732 Search for a video showing how to open the metal mesh and clean from inside. That worked for me.
Tip 1: Don't "dip" anything in alcohol. Tip 2: Buy a new pair.

Sorry, I wish I could help. I'm sure there's message boards if you Google it though. 🙏
@@GriffinBenchmark dang, alright thanks tho
Don't you just push the dirt deeper into the sound hole when you rub them with a qtip? I'm not sure I should do this, it seems like the manufacturer has a specialized tool for this. :(
You could use a specialized needle first. :)
I need help with cleaning Jbl 230nc😅
Always wanted to try those. Do they have good sound? As for cleaning them, this method should still work.
Is scratching is OK or just ruin it?
I still have those buds and they work as good now as they did then. As I've stated many times, I've used this method for a long time on several different brands (currently AirPods Pro 2's) and it's never hurt anything. You just don't want to saturate things or scrape too hard on anything. Common Sense.
2:00 please do not use q tips in your ears there is a warning on them for a reason
Thanks but I have been for 47 years and I don't intend on quitting.
how do i get rid of water damage quickly?
Buy a new pair.
The only thing I would argue with is the last tip. Q-tips aren't great for cleaning ears. They can compact wax in the ear. You should invest in a proper ear cleaner.
There's a special technique that needs to be used when cleaning ears with a qtip. I've been doing it for 48 years. 😉
@@GriffinBenchmark A mixture of peroxide and a irrigation is the best method but you're too old to be told what to do.
These are an improvement over the 1st gen buds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxK5mc3yw4xA7Mf2j6k6n1Uqv_KUgrKdeM Pros: The fit is fantastic. This is the biggest plus. They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.
What if you don't have alcohol.........can we useanything instead of it
Get alcohol. Everyone should have some on hand.
What part of the human anatomy is he referring to?! The ear canal?? Don't apply that much pressure with a qtip!! You'll pierce the ear drum!!
Been doing it for half a century and it hasn't happened yet.
Earlier today i used qtips and hand sanitizer to clean my earbuds and now the left one has low volume what do i do?
Don't use hand sanitizer because it has an ingredient in there to turn the alcohol into a gel which leaves a residue. Not sure what to have you do now that you've already done it other than possibly using 91% alcohol. You may have ruined them.
@@GriffinBenchmark online it says hand sanitizer doesnt ruin them
I wouldn't use anything but straight alcohol

Be careful don’t scratch the connectors too much
Agreed, very lightly only. Never hurt them yet! 😉🙌
My left side not working
Uh oh
Alcohol fixes everything 😂
Yup! This is especially true when using ethanol. ;)
Use cotton using cotton will not take longer time to clean earbuds ....
Can I use hand sanitiser, I don't really want to buy a whole bottle of alcohol.
I wouldn't, they add stuff to make it gel. Don't be afraid to buy a bottle of alcohol, it's handy for many many uses.
There are few important points that I want to talk about here.
First, don't use a highly concentrated alcohol if you don't want to damage the sensitive parts of your earbuds. I recommend 50% water and 50% Alcohol. Second, you don't wanna clean your ears every single day unless you want hearing loss early on. Other than that, good video.
Still rockin the same bud (lost the left one), been cleaning them the same way since I bought them. Been cleaning my ears every day for almost 47 years, still hearing fine. Not disagreeing with you, just my experience so far. Thanks for watching! 👍💯
Some people like me get crazy wax so I have to clean a lot too.
Good thing I forget to clean my ears
Can I use sanitizer
I wouldn't.
I dropped my earbuds in the toilet there was no 1s or 2s in the toilet do you think after doing this they will be clean
After you put alcohol on them, they'll be clean. Whether or not they'll work properly again is another story. If they were the Ankers I was working on here, probably not.
Fucking isopropyl fucking alcohol. The only isopropyl alcohol I found was a 200 liter barrel for 3 bucks online. Literally noone has it idk how all the people in the tutorials have it
Not sure where you live but every single pharmacy has it in America.
don't use q tips in your ears. other than that good advice
Been doing it for half a century. Can't stand dirty grimy ears...
I think you forgot to clean the most important part.. The actual earbud that goes deepest into your canal. Perhaps just an oversight. I just took a wiff of mine and I almost collapsed.. ear wax city. Anyway thanks for the tips.. pun intended
