good info brother. this helped alot because i would be in chirp and really thought i was in a bunch of fish and while i caught a few i was also getting hung up and remembered this video and when i also had down scan along with chirp i noticed that what i thought were alot of fish were actually small tree stumps with some fish and i realized what i was getting hung up on often. definitely have to have both views along with side scan to really get the true picture below. thx Mike starting to feel like i know what am doing out there. lol

Have that unit and I love it. I matched it up with the panoptix transducer for ice as well as the boat for shooting ahead and off to the sides to make decision on which direction I want to travel. I'm able to refine my depths for proper presentation and depth decision. I'm covering less water but more effective and productive.
Great video Mike ty. I see you running the high wide and the medium chirp 175. what gives you the best look when running on plane, the medium chirp or the high chirp when trying to spot fish when running.

I'm trying to keep up and have 2 questions:
1- Pycnocline shows salinity, so this is NOT something to think about in freshwater lakes and rivers.....correct?
2- Your upper left and right screens show 20.6' while the other screens show 20.7' depth. This is a very small difference, but why is there any difference at all?

Hi Mike, one of the things that impress me most about you , is your confidence in your electronics! I wish I felt as good about looking at a screen as you do! I recently purchased a boat equipped with a Lowrance EliteTI. Can you share your thoughts about this unit and maybe recommend a transducer for it if available? Thanks for willingly sharing your wealth of knowledge with us!
I appreciate the kind words brother!! Unfortunately I am quite limited in my Lowrance knowledge, especially on the smaller units. Although they have similar operating systems to Simrad the settings and specs can be quite different. I do know that the Elite can run this transducer here, amzn.to/2ErP9ug.
which is tough to beat for the money. It has The best side scan I’ve ever used and it also has down scan high and med CHIRP 2 d sonar and 200/83khz fixed frequency. Although the CHIRP performance won’t be as high as a $1000 transducer it does pack high AND med CHIRP into one transducer which even the high end Airmar transducers don’t do. I think you will be quite happy with this transducer, but if you find yourself wanting more you might want to consider stepping up to the Lowrance Live or Simrad Evo3 displays paired with a higher end Airmar transducer. Hope this helps brother!!!

Good afternoon Mike. I have a Solix 15 and Helix 10 with side scan and my screen isn't that clear, sharp. I read that bottom paint with copper can cause a problem. I was going to add blocks, but it might mess with my clearance (Volvo I/O). Any news about paint and side scan?
Typically if you are seeing reflection off of your bottom paint you would see some crazy things happening like noise and not just a reduction in resolution. The Solix does have some clarity adjustment. We saw some huge difference when playing with it. Alan Batista on Facebook is good with it. Shoot him a message there or on UA-cam. Light tackle trolling the Chesapeake. Tell him I sent you. He’s good.
Great video! I would like to see more about side imaging. My transducer is mounted on my boat where I have to tilt up my motor to see good images on both sides of the boat. On the side image that you are showing in this video is your transducer mounted on the right side of your motor?

Great video! What is the chirp kw for the 3n1 active imaging? I cant find that power rating anywhere. Is it 300 or 600. Im sure it is not a 1kw like the b175's Second question should a b165hw be plugged into sonar port 1 or 2 on a nss evo3?

Glad you like it, every transducer has different characteristics, but you should be able to mark on plane in all frequency settings. 👍👍

A lot of times transducers are included as a package deal. How does one know what transducers are compatible with different brands of fish finders?
Is there a significant difference between side scan imaging using 800 kHz and 1200 kHz (Humminbird's forte)? Same question for down scan. Thanks.
I would only use transducers that come with the unit when they are for down and side scan. 1000 has better detail but less range. 455 has the opposite. Airmar makes great high end CHIRP transducers. They have adapters for all brands.

Fish will be on the main lake on points near deep water. Look between main lake points and the main channel. Cruise around looking on your fish finder then drop down lines and Herring on them.

What are the persistent vertical dark bands just to the left and right of the bottom return on SS?
It’s just the way the bottom is perceived when the signal first makes “landfall”. It’s where the center of the “cone” or “sliver” (in the case of Side Scan) bounces off the bottom so it’s the strongest return. It appears like a zig zag because the boat is rocking in the waves. Good question. Thanks!

Mike, great vid as always! Got a quick question, I just upgraded my LSS2 3in1 to the a new 3in1 AI transducer for my Go7. Do I have to tell my unit there is a different transducer? Or is it plug and play? I was hoping to put my boat in the water this weekend but Cuomo just shut down the marinas till May 1 😒.

hey mike how high of a contrast do you typically keep your units on? I run a garmin echomap plus sv and tend to have an issue seeing the shadows behind the fish. Just got the unit about 2 weeks ago and still trying to dial it in.
Michael Buchanan I normally leave it in auto. In bright sunlight I may increase slightly. You might want to try another pallet.
Mike do you know of any modestly price side scan units only for purchase. Thinking of just adding a side scan without replacing entire existing unit of DI, sonar, chart, gps etc. Thanks

I talk to lots of guys that have older units like the Evo2 that can’t run the new Active Imaging Transducer which has the best side scan I’ve ever seen, ESPECIALLY for marking fish. For a VERY reasonable price you can add one of these complete systems and get side scan, down scan, decent high CHIRP and Med CHIRP as well as a great chart plotter with decent base map, even WiFi to control or mirror with your phone or tablet. It’s smart for every larger vessel to have a second MFD as well.

Mike Smedley I checked the links out and they don’t seem to refer to a unit that has a transducer. If I go to the Simrad site you have choices of transducers. So I am sure on what to order I choose either the GO9 or GO7 and change transducer choice to which transducer?
