It’s said clear as day. The games and the creator say Mario.
ITS MAH-REE-O NOT MAY-REE O
its johnny
That last guy does a good impression of Mario's jumping sound.
0:41 This, Accurate pronunciation, Mario is the typical Italian name.
When speaking english and saying Mario you should use the way you pronounce the 'a' when you're at your dentist e.g. 'aaaaa'. Or as in "waffle" but the a is "long"
Sekai no Senshi Or Spanish too, they share somes similarities for being both Romance languages.
yeah no shit
EVEN AFTER THE EXPERIMENT HE WONT ADMIT HOW DEAD WRONG HE IS
It's about pride, i respect that in a man! haha
@@Lukey-ts2xv you respect ignorance in a man?
That's because everyone with an Italian accent said it the same way he does. You're deaf if you think otherwise.
Why not just play the games? They pronounce it the correct way in the games. It's not Marry-o.
It’s mahrio he even fucking says it in his game
Its a me mahrio. -Mario 64
There is literally no debate on how to pronounce his name. In every game he says "Itsa me... Mario" Mario going mah-ree-oh.
Agreed! I don’t care what anyone says, that’s how you say it. I cringe whenever calls him “marry-o”
Very interesting that he pronounces "Wario" as War-ee-oh and not "Way-ree-oh"...
The debate will live on? Literally one person pronounced it Merry-Oh
Im italian and his pronunce is Mario not merio
In Spanish is pronounced the same as in Italian, in english pronunciation is wrong.
It's MAR-ee-o. Hearing someone say "Mary-o" is like nails on a chalkboard to me, whether it's the Nintendo character or anyone else (e.g. Mario Cuomo or Mario Andretti.)
No one pronounces it "Mary-o". Not even people in this video. Mary's a girl's name.
nah you both wrong its pronounced mario
Merry-Oh... that bothers me sooo much. It's Mah-Ree-Oh.
I am Italian and used to say Marr-io but then got over my stupidness and said it correctly. But I will never say Bros instead of Brothers. That is just insane.
Yo-shy and pea-ache
Marry o is really maddy o and Mari o is really Madi o
Itsumi mario
ma - rio
It's mario not morio
People who say morio are marons.
His name is not Mary O why do people call him Mary?
Play super smash bros to find out
How do you say it
You forgot *way-lui-juy*
I didn't think my tweet would be part of the cause of this video LMAO
But it's mar-e-o.
That's legit.
Saying "mar-e-o" doesn't actually clarify how you pronounce it. Do you say MARR-i-o or MARRY-o?
@@Scripture-Man I think she meant MARR-i-o
0:42 is accurate. There's this whole debate on whether it's Maryy-oh or Mar-ee-oh, but it's actually Mah-rree-o. You roll your 'r', and the 'o' sounds like the start of the word 'or' just cut out the r sound. There we go peoples. Italian pronunciation, wohoo.
I agree with this completely, but I cannot for the life of me roll my r's, so it's Mar-ee-oh for me.
Mah-rree-o = correct
Mar-ee-oh = ok for Americans/said with an "American" accent
Maryy-oh = What is wrong with your mouth?
My teacher pronounces mario like Mary-o
Even had one italian person. Debate will live on? One person said mayrio, even the charater himself says SUPAH MAHDIO
No one said "mayrio". Everyone either says MARRY-oh (correct) or MARR-ee-oh (incorrect).
@@Scripture-Man no no no. see everyone either says MARRY-oh (incorrect) or MARR-ee-oh (correct)
its not mayonaise its mario
Mario is an Italian name
not Japanese
technically is a Latin name wich includes the italian language =)
nope, it's an Italian name, not Latin (in Latin it's Marius).
pretty sure its a spanish name
I just say the name in spanish so there is no problem for me xD, in spanish is just /mário/ just like it is written
Italians pronounce it maiyreeo. The way that Italian lady said it. Since that ahh sound isn't in the American dialect of English it goes one of two ways. East coasters say Mair-ee-O... Mair like hair...and the rest of the country seems to go Mar like car. Neither is right so everyone is saying it wrong... Except for the italian lady.
I agree that the Italian lady said it right. I'm stunned to learn that Americans don't (can't?) pronounce Mario's name! I've been playing Mario games since 1991 and never heard it pronounced the American way before, except for the weird way Peach said it in the intro to Mario 64, which me and my friends used to laugh at because the voice actress clearly got it wrong.
As a British person, I find it fascinating how Americans pronounce Mario! I've been looking at this, and there actually seems to be *FIVE* different ways of pronouncing Mario…
1. *'MAIR-io' or 'MARE-io'*
This one's less common, more of an East-coast sound. Like how Peter Griffin might pronounce it!
2. 'MA' as in *'Mall' or 'Mosquito'*
This is how UA-cam's Gaming Historian pronounces it - very low placement in the mouth - almost an "o" sound. I find this pronunciation very peculiar indeed.
3. 'MA' as in *'Ma and Pa',* to rhyme with 'car'
This seems to be the most common American pronunciation. It has a longer 'a' sound. This is how Peach pronounces it in the intro to Mario 64. When my friends and I heard this we laughed, assuming it was just a bad voice actor. (No one says it this way here in England.) This also seems to be the most common way of pronouncing "Wario" - allowing his name to begin with a kind of emphatic cry: "Waaaah!"
4. 'MA' as in *'Marry' or 'Map'*
This has a short 'a' sound - this is how Rich Campbell pronounces it, and it's the best American pronunciation. However, it's still nowhere like a pure Italian "a" sound.
5. The *right way*
To me, it seems that Americans have no ability to pronounce 'a' the correct, Italian way. Their 'a's always sound slightly like 'e's, with a slightly closed, wider mouth. But Mario's voice actor pronounces it the Italian way (the same way we pronounce it here in England). It's just a pure 'a' sound. You need to lay your tongue completely flat and speak the vowel right from the very back and middle of your mouth.
Having said this, I do find it cute how Americans pronounce "Mario". It's a softer, friendlier way of saying it, and when Peach says it, it sounds more feminine than the hard Italian pronunciation. So it's all good! LOL
If you say "May-rio" and think you're right, you're absolutely delusional. Italians say it with the 'ah' sound, as do the Japanese, the voice actor for Mario, and also the Nintendo representatives.
But not one person in this video said "May-rio"! Everyone either said:
MARR-ee-oh (wrong)
or
MARRY-oh (correct - how the voice actor says it)
@@Scripture-Man MARR-ee-oh is how everyone at Nintendo says it lmao.
@@insertnamehere5193 This Scripture Man guy is a doughnut head.
maw- ree- oh
It’s “marry-o” and I will not accept any other answers. It’s literally how he says his own name.
This was very cringy.....
Japanese pronunciation is MAH-ree-oh
First
It's MAA•REE•OW and not MA•REE•OW
Its mahreo not märiö
You know, Super Mario Maker has a character literally designed to mock people like you (Mary O.).
It's not supposed to mock them, it's called Mary. O to sound like Mario, because it's pronounced MAH-rio.
mar-e-o: gamers
mare-e-o: non-gamers
may-re-o: come on man
