Suicide Squad, as a game, seems to have a history of following trends. For the last 14 years, WB Games has been trying to make a Suicide Squad game, and it seems they've done it with the release of Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. Let's review the project's history and why Rocksteady became the developer.

Why couldn't they just go with an idea like "suicide squad vs the justice lords" or "teen titans vs the justice league" instead of the diarrhea filled dumpster fire that we ended up getting?
My only issue with the concept is that they don’t play into the concept of the team. They’re called the Suicide Squad but the game never kills off any of them or make the player feel like they’re in genuine danger. I’ll assume that’ll change with the DLC characters
@@WarpingFistSeeing as how there's a multiverse and they wanted modern Harley, i think it would've been possible to introduce her as a multiverse variant from a universe where Batman died in Arkham city instead of Joker and the latter entered a depression and became more agressive, Harley realised Joker didnt love her and left him and then teamed up with the Bat family to take him down and became somewhat reformed (not without her regrets though, after all she killed a bunch of people), i imagine she'd be introduced at 1/3 of the campaign and would acompany the squad for a bit trying to reform base Harley, but failing as she would betray the squad because of Brainiac crearly false promise of bringing back Joker, Waller explodes the bomb in her head and she gets replaced by variant Harley, ultimately she'd die for someone that never loved her, turning her into a somewhat tragic character and an irredimible Harley compared to other versions, plus It would play with the main gimmick of the suicide Squad
or how about "Suicide Squad: Kill The Crime Syndicate". I would've liked to have seen an adaptation of "The Forever Evil" story arc from the new 52
@@williamreid823 Damn dude, i wish i can make you the director of Rocksteady, because that idea is cool as hell
it's literally a good game with good gameplay, and batman isn't even dead so you can stop bitching, we all know that's why you don't like the game, because you haven't even played it
i'll honestly never not be mad that we got this instead of the Batman Beyond inspired game with Damian Wayne as the new Batman; the concept art from that game looks amazing and it's such a shame that we got stuck with this instead.
Honestly, Terry McGinnis will always be THE Batman Beyond, but a game with either him or Damian, set in a Gotham that has moved on from the legend of the Batman and it's your job to remind the criminals of this new Gotham why they should fear the night, would have been amazing.
That concept art was not even for the Damien wayne game, shit is from like 2007 before asylum even came out
Then you make it my guy 🤣
Their Suicide Squad game, the Damien Wayne game, their Superman game, so many projects that WB Montreal were working on that sounded SO much better than the crap we got with Gotham Knights and SS:KTJL.
We're living in the worst timeline. Barry! Do your thing!
What if this is the optimum timeline though?
your either on to something or the shrooms were just that good@@WarpingFist
It's Rocksteady who made Suicide Squad. WB Montreal's Batman Arkham Origins wasn't that great btw.
Agreed 😂 I wanna go to the universe where JLA Mortal got made in 2007. That beginning really makes me wanna know where it would have ended up.
@@MKL3165 Barry it's time to do a flashpoint
0:28 if you have any 💀💀💀💀💀💀
When the backstory of the game is more interesting than the game itself lmao
Also R.I.P Project Sabbath
For me the arkahm Story Ends After Knight :)

It doesnt tho, cope harder

Interesting stuff, one more thing to add related to what you mentioned: I remember reading a leak back then suggesting that one of the reasons that higher-ups weren't happy and that the project was given to Rocksteady was that WB Games Montreal was struggling with the traversal mechanics and at one point had given every character a system similar to Batman's grapple gun to travel the open world.
Right, that was mentioned by James Sigfield. Every character used the Arkham traversal mechanics.
This WB Montreal game, And the canceled sequel to Arkham Knight (Project Sabath) It only leaves me to think that not even Warner was sure what to develop As for DC Outside The Arkham games, they experimented with ideas until they assigned Gotham knights to Montreal, And yet I doubt they know what the next step will be after SQKTJL
They should just make a Superman game and Arkham Asylum remake with Unreal Engine 5. Folks will magically forget about this Suicide Squad game if they do
@@WarpingFistAn Asylum remake would be such a massive waste of time. There aren't really any major faults with the original that warrent a remake. You might say that they could add the gameplay improvments from City/Knight, but that would kind of undermine the point of those sequels from a gameplay perspective. Just a hard no to that idea.
What character would you like to play in a Suicide Squad and how would you want them to play?
It feels like WB Montreal and Rocksteady switched projects mid development considering that Gotham Knights took place in a similar position to Arkham Knight narratively. It starts to make alot more sense the more you think about it
I've been thinking about that for the longest time, it's such a bizarre situation.
Rocksteady really tried to commit suicide with suicide squad.
Expect to hear news of a new Arkham game or Asylum remake within the next year if this game fails
@WarpingFist I've been saying the same about Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed. They haven't remastered or remade the original game. I think its just in case their upcoming 2 games flop.
Game isn't bad just not worth it's price.
"this game took 14 years to finally get off the ground" should've stayed on the ground
It's crazy that there might have been a universe where WB Montréal released both a Sucide Squad and Damian Wayne game. They even had concepts for a Superman title. But mismanagement or lack of a clear vision meant that the studio took 9 YEARS to finally ship out a new project, one that didn't justify its long development cycle imo.
Btw, according to Jason Schreier, Rocksteady were developing a multiplayer game set in an original universe before they shifted over to SS: KTJL, which helps to prove that Rocksteady always intended to create a multiplayer game of sorts, maybe not a looter shooter, live service experience but still something in that arena. I mean we already know the Superman game rumors were incorrect, so this narrative that WB Games "forced" them to take the company in a certain direction makes less and less sense when stuff like this is revealed.
What character would you like to play in a Suicide Squad and how would you want them to play?
i think the game should have been like dishonored where you have a target and choose your character who has certain powers and permadeath.
I think a game that combines Hitman’s infiltration mechanics with the multiplayer elements of games like Rainbow Six or Pay-Day where players have to work together to achieve certain goals with the threat of permanent death would have been perfect
The entire time I was playing through SSKTJL, I couldn't stop wondering why Arkham Origins Blackgate wasn't ever being acknowledged. I'm guessing there will be a few throwaway lines about it if/when Deathstroke becomes a playable character (I say if becuase with how the game is performing both commercially and critically, I honestly don't know if they'll support the game for that long). Very interesting to learn more about how all of these old, new, and cancelled projects were intertwined. I wouldn't be shocked if we see an Arkham Asylum remake in the next few years to try and make up for how bad Suicide Squad seems to be performing
I agree heavily that Rocksteady will return to the Arkham series to make up for the soon to be poor performance of this game. It’ll either be an Arkham Asylum remake with new unreal graphics or a new arkham title in general. Seems to be the typical response of developers to return to their old popular IP’s when a new endeavour fails.
The rumored dlc characters are complete shit too. Nora Freeze and deadshots daughter.
Deadshots daughter? What could they possibly do with her? Wouldn't someone like killer frost or death stroke make more sense?
@@ashuraomega1000they'll make her Lawless, Yess that's her supervillain name AND she's a twich user, nuff said
Not even Nora, we're getting a genderbend Victor Freeze
Why put nora if they already have an female ice character that is an staple of the team
Killer frost should be here
@@valletas probably cause Mr Freeze Is More popular then killer frost, but hey that's just a theory
I still would have much preferred a Terry McGinnis Batman game over Damien Wayne because I’m a massive Batman Beyond fan, but still I would have been excited and much more interested in the cancelled Damien Wayne game over Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, at least some of the stuff that they had planned for Project Sabbath sounded interesting and probably would have fit into the Arkhamverse much better then what they’ve done in Suicide Squad.
I would’ve preferred WB Montréal’s version of the game then what we end up getting if I’m being honest. It actually sounds very interesting in concept, and I would’ve liked to have played it.
I’d prefer the original idea instead of the awful idea we got!
That "Deadpool" Harley looks awesome
All of that development hell wasn't enough, they had to hire Sweet baby Inc to make it extra shite.
0:48 Harley-Pool? I dig it.
What a surprise. Seriously I'm still tyring to understand why why WB is pushing the suicide squad so hard.
Hopefully the reception for kill the justice league will let them know that it's not going to stick.
Nah having more Suicide Squad isn’t a bad thing, they just need better writing. Though out of the five Suicide Squad centric projects that have been released(Kill the Justice League, Suicide Squad 2016, The Suicide Squad, Hell to Pay, and Assault on Arkham, Isekai isn’t out yet), more of them were good.
Well it was mostly due to the massive and surprise success of the first movie
@@brewmaster2912 The isekai isn't really appealing but I've never liked the genre, Assault on arkham was good but contradicts the continuity it's set in. The rest is meh hell to pay was decent but forgettable.
Bro I would MUCH rather have this game than the trash we just got! I've always been curious about the suicide squad endings in Origins and Blackgate, this is depressing like Star Wars Battlefront 3 levels of depressing... Damnit
I Said a lot before. But the og wb Games Montreal's version would be James gunn version but more serious. I get this vibe like it would be something like the James gunn version but more serious.
Let say in og Montreal version is would be deathstroke, Deadshot and Bronze Tiger. That i think it would be the plot.
Suicide squad kill the justice league was not great yeah it had it's fun moments but it gets repetitive at times I consider this game not Canon to the Arkhamverse lol
Setting it in the Arkhamverse was definitely a marketing tactic, there’s 0 reason to have set it in this universe otherwise . I think this would have worked a lot better in its own universe
@@WarpingFist I completely agree, SS:KTJL really has no reason to be set in the Arkhamverse, especially with the heavy focus on the Multiverse going forward. It really should have been set in its own universe, but they decided to set it in the Arkhamverse to lure in Batman Arkham fans.
So much missed opportunity out there. If there were another Arkham game, it better be with WB Montreal. Since Nightwing should become the next batman.
I'm not into the life cycle of most game developers but I'm willing to bet on Rocksteady's fall as one of the fastest, and most devastating in recent memory. it's truly a shame. A shell of a studio.
I don’t think this will be the end of them. I reckon they can pump out another Arkham title in 2-3 years.
After this thing, maybe best to never touch it again, the devs aren't he same at all who made Arkham and the damage is done. @@WarpingFist
A game on Justice league vs the crime syndicate would be awesome
If they had to make this game, they should’ve just released it on its original date of 2022. By delaying it 2 more years, it just makes the game even more disappointing. They could be working on a new game by now, but instead we’re stuck with this never ending mess.
I’ll assume they have a second team working on a new DC game as we speak. Hey, they made City in two years, it wouldn’t be hard to crank out another Arkham game by 2026
@@WarpingFist by this Rocksteady? I doubt it.
There are two suicide squad style games that i would find interesting, one that replicates the comics with then doing black ops missions that the government dont want to be associated and each character has their own moves and abilities no loot and shoot, another would be a game set in earth 3 where we play as the heroes from there trying to fight agains the sindicate of crime, both could worm with the idea of characters staying dead trough a playthrough till you replayed, maybe could even had a achievement for having everyone alive.
SS:KTJL fails because the main cast consists of normal human beings and a shark. If it was actual meta humans (like Killer Frost) or human characters who have gone toe to toe with meta humans before (like Bloodsport) it would have been a bit more believable
That shark was pretty much the only interesting character or compelling.
3:47 what are we some kind of suicide squad- Will smith
It's so weird how in the mid-2010s WB just randomly pushed the Suicide Squad so fucking hard and I hope after the failure KTJL they just stop pushing them
It's clear after the success of Vol. 1 WB wanted their own team of douches to market (even getting the GUY who did Guardians to do a Suicide Squad movie) but Gunn's films make it abundantly clear that the Squad are a bunch of psychos when the Guardians all mourn each other and the Squad just brush off each others deaths.
They're just not endearing, charming, or interesting characters
Trend chasing, trend chasing, trend chasing. That’s all this team is to WB. The perfect group to chase popular trends in whatever industry you use them in.
WarpingFist posted let’s gooooooo!
We dont even get to play as actual bad guys anymore. The whole "play as the bad guys" thing has just become "play as bad guys... only to have bad guys redeem themselves as good guys". Get real people. Not all bad guys can or deserve to be saved. Look at Joker and Jack Horner, purely evil and soul-less villains, for the sake of being actual villains. Even villains dont get to be villains anymore. Im so sick of it. Let us just be the fuckin bad guys and do as we wish already. When do you get to run through the streets of gotham with croc and eat people just because its fun, you know what i mean?
At this point, I don’t even want to hear (or read) that name. Somehow that idiotic villain team managed to have trash fire movies and a trash fire game that pissed Batman Arkham games.
8:08 Rocksteady just broke my man Warping
YOU ARE THE BEST
The Idea that was better than the Release
Hey WarpingFist
I have two video ideas for you if you’re interested
The cancelled the flash game by Brash Entertainment and the early development of arkham knight
I'd love to talk about the Brash Flash Game, and the Arkham Knight video is something I have planned for March
I love how all the comments are shit like “The idea is better than the game” but isn’t the gameplay just a 3rd person shooter with a hint of Arkham (basically what we got😂)
Right, pretty much the same game. The original could have had looter elements too so I can really rule out that it was basically the same experience.
I'm looking forward to the dissection of suicide squad kill the justice league.
All of those ideas were much more interesting than the crap they gave us
The wb Games Montreal's version of suicide squad would be like James gunn version but more serious.
8:07 Straight up laughed at himself for saying that 💀
Damn I would have loved a first person shooter of the suicide squad back in 2012
6:01 what game is this?
i remember a suicide squad movie tie in game on mobile featuring harley, deadshot and el diablo and genuily was amazing back then but it was canceled
They could’ve done a movie tie in game and it would’ve been better received than what we got.
rocksteady's biggest mistake was this game.
They made the Batman dirty
WarpingFist do you think if they made a tie in game based on the 2021 suicide squad movie it would’ve been a lot better or end up just like the game we have and what would king sharks gameplay be like
Ps hope your doing well❤👍
If they made a tie-in game, I'd still be a multi-player game. Would it have Been better than the one we got? Maybe, maybe not. It really depends on the studio that makes it. Tie-in games don't have a reputation for being good, so probably not.
@@WarpingFist which is a shame because I think the potential for a tie in game is there it’s just needs a good studio that will put there hard work and talent in the project or maybe they should try to work on another popular IP to try to redeem themselves like maybe a tmnt video game but seeing how the suicide squad video game’s development went out that is unlikely but we can still hope 👍
Do you think that they'll bring any ties from the Batman: Assault on Arkham movie? Hopefully some characters
Unfortunately, ‘Assault on Arkham’ doesn’t seem to be canon. At least anymore.
@@WarpingFist well the only reasons ive been given for why thats the case is king sharks death, when theres always been 2 of them. We'll see what the devs say, its all confusing
What character would you like to play in a Suicide Squad and how would you want them to play?
THIS TOOK 14 YEARS TO MAKE?! The last time i heard a joke like that it was the hype around that POS movie "Boyhood."
Had to get some chips
The current one missed the mark but it can work , it should of been a edgy spinoff looter shooter with arkham style combat
Early on, Geoff Johns mentions that he loves the idea of a Suicide Squad game because of how expendable the team members are and permanent nature of death in their stories. The funny thing is, that's completely missing from the final game, as the team would rather act as a knockoff of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy (ironic, considering Gunn actually used this "expendability" feature in his take of the Suicide Squad).
Why do i feel like the og suicide squad game would be like something the James gunn movie but more serious
I agree Batman died shitty but I liked the gameplay
Y'all Mad cause y'all Heroes die, Stay Mad
