the MAJOR differentiator is it will be the first iphone using tandem oled technology, enabling it to be super thin, with extreme resolution in any lighting condition, and low battery drain....
iPad Air is mid tier. How is an iPhone Air going to be mid tier with one camera with no additional hardware than current vanilla iPhone. This seems to be a better base model: SE today
The 16 pro max has 1 camera that that they tout as having multiple cameras in 1 lens, I feel like it’s gonna be something along those lines. I doubt they’d create the Air with 1 lens without accounting for that
I love tech products that put low weight and portability in the forefront. This seems like it's right up my alley... personally I don't think they'll release a slim. I think the air will take care of that space.
Not everyone needs so much battery. Also, a smaller battery cell doesn't mean that it will have some drastically short lifespan. Apple can improve efficiency. It will probably be comparable to the base iPhone 16.
I have the iPhone 13 mini. I love the standby mode but it doesn’t stay on. I will buy iPhone 16 pro very soon and the standby mode will stay on all the time. I am very pleased with that feature.
One thing i don't get is most people would prefer a slightly thicker device for better battery life but apple is like lets do the opposite of that people are stupid and buy our shit anyway

Not at all the same though, right? That phone is twice as BIG as the iPhone Slim would be. Since it's a folding phone. Folded, it's more than 8mm. that's extra space for battery, chips, etc.
😭 Because it's a terrible phone?! The rear camera is garbage and low resolution. It's terribly underpowered (which means it can use a smaller battery). It's also wider, which definitely helps them sideload the components. Not to say it's not impressive, but I think Apple wants to do this WHILE also being a super powerful phone.
I think we're still too early for that. I also dont know if Apple will do it. So far, flip style phones are niche and unpopular. They're just different!
@AppleInsider I don't see the big benefit for that design either. It just frees up some space in my pocket but does so with significant compromises. But I would buy a foldable style iPhone, like Z Fold, with iOS when folded and iPadOS unfolded. I'm currently on my second Fold, and it's hard to imagine going back to a regular smartphone!
I think I'd probably buy one, but I think it woudl be more because it's fun and different, not necessarily because it's better. We had bar phones and we had flip phones. Flip ones went away because the bar design was better. I think it makes the most sense.

Maybe my phone is too old but Standby NEVER stays on. After about 5min the screen dims and turns off.

Make sure you have the always-on display enabled. Go to Settings > StandBy > Display > Never.
