It's a great time to be a car person, with great quality channels like this, my Weekend mornings are set. Subbed! Keep up the great videos!
Awesome! Glad you like the content!
Great vid straight forward and well made and I like that you don't cut corners. You're quickly becoming the import car forum mythbusters haha
Am loving your videos. The play lists of different projects makes it really easy to choose what to watch next. My only gripe is the super repetitive bgm. I know its hard to find non copywright breaching music but surely there's got to be something better to choose from. Keep the top class vids coming !!
We ditched the BGM in all our videos from 2016 forward so you wont be subjected to it anymore!
Thank-you, I'd been reading a heap of resources about doing the z32/r32/33/34 handbrake swap into s chassis and wasn't sure whether I'd need an adapter or not to fit the 33 cables into an S14A. This video helped answer that question and explain what to do with the r33 cable brackets.
You guys deserve a lot more views! Great work, keep it up 👍👍
Do you have any update about the pad compound you are using? Like pedal feel and any lock ups?
Did this on my S14 today. Was able to swap the factory s14 brackets to the r33 cables so they bolt onto the subframe. Added security.
If anyone else needs to buy the nuts and washers to attach the handbrake assembly to the uprights/knuckles, I found that all the part #''s listed for R32/33/34 were discontinued. Z32 listings were still available though so the nut PN is 01211-00531 (qty 2 required) and washer 01311-01291 (qty 2 required). Hope this helps someone out 👍
So my questions for the S13 are.
Can I use the stock dust shield or do I need the 300zx one?
Can I use the stock parking brake pads with just the added 300zx hardware or do I need the 300zx pads and everything?
I've made a simple spreadsheet to calculate line pressure front/rear...so you can predict performance before hitting the track. I got the equations from a Racecar magazine. I could send it to you. I'm concerned that the rear calipers are way undersized. Do you have a proportioning valve? Did you keep ABS?
The rear calipers are just slightly smaller than a Brembo STI/EVO rear caliper that would match the front EVO so I don't think the rear is undersized by much at all. I have no proportioning valve, if my bias is an issue I'll definitely install one. No ABS either.
Great video. One question, do you need to change the booster (we call it booster here not sure what you guys call it. it pump connected to bug black circle)
Awesome video man. Really makes me miss my 240. But I can't wait to get my STi back on the track.
+Do Boy's Garage Truth be told, I think the STI is the better track toy!
What’s the part number for the rotors? Thanks
question about the parking brake!!! I been trying to research about it, but couldn't find a trust worthy answer. I see you guys are using the 1991+ anchor bolt. In order to use 1991+ anchor bolt. You'll need a NA 300zx hub(does year matter?), which should be a bolt on ?? Please and thanks you>_
yes, but i need a metal plate for that in the body area
did you now de mesures?
I really like your videos, but how to know witch car calipers will work on mine, what rotor size etc.
Is there a diagram for which hard lines connect to a specific orifice? I'm trying to see which one you actually connect to each hole in the video.
+pancakes562 I just follow the lines and see which one leads to the front and back. AS for the BMC this site may help you: importnut.net/300zxbrakeswap.htm
+Speed Academy Thanks for the quick response, Pete. I've been up and down that site and it doesn't really tell me which orifice is which but I did figure it out just in case anyone stumbles upon this thread lol. This applies to the 1-1/16" BMC. Furthest Back / Middle / Furthest front = Passenger / Driver's / Rear Brakes.
+pancakes562 Gotcha, thanks. I'll actually try to add this to my story on the website. Thanks for the info!
those hubs are from the z32 right? Cause I have s14 hubs and they don't have the anchor bolt tab
Can you do this to my 600hp s2000? im on all stock brake pads and rubber lines.... Turn up a heater
is upgrading the master cylinder necessary, i mean, to obtain full stopping power, or is it just for modulation?
+Mr.xxxxxxxxxx17 Just for better brake feel and modulation. You'll still have 100% stopping power with the stock 240SX master cylinder.
Congrats on the article in SpeedHunters! I was thinking about doing a 370z Akebono setup in the front but this looks promising. I've got the 300zx brakes I'm using a 5mm spacer to clear the calipers already, how much less clearance do you think the evo calipers gave you?
The Evo calipers reduce clearance by quite a bit and as for exactly how much, I didn't measure since I'm running a +28 offset with a 5mm spacer (for looks) there are zero issues. If your wheels dont clear the 300ZX calipers its doubful they'll clear the brembos.
you guys make great videos !
keep up the good work car looks really good. just a quick question I recently bought the caliper brake adaptor kit same as yours and I'm just wondering what Evo rotors I need 320mm or 350mm or do both fit
can anyone help
how about a parts list on what u used
Can't this set up fit on a 1992 nissan sentra b13?
dont the 300zx 2+2 ebrake lines work? thats what i used on my s13 just had to make custom brackets for them
Nope, they're just a tad too tight on the S14.
I have an s15'
can I use the z32 brake lines or do I have to use r33s
will front calipers and brake discs of evo 7-9 fit on rx7 fd3s ? with caliper adapters
+Georgi Kuchuberia We dont know the answer to that question but if you have adapters then surely finding the right rotor shouldnt be too difficult.
+Speed Academy no problem I make it fit,
Is aluminium driveshaft stock on S14? Or is that aftermarket? That may be a stupid question but I still thought I'd ask. :)
+Atrax R It's an aftermarket option, made by thedriveshaftshop.
Speed Academy Thought so. Although some Fords do have aluminium drive shafts so I thought it is possible to be stock. :D
Can i use the z32 caliper with my o.e.m 5 lugs?
+Raymond Borunda Yup!
Great video, what size wheel does those big brembo caliper need?
You'll definitely need low offset wheels with the Brembos. I run a 17x9.5 +28 SSR Type-F wheel and it clears with zero issues. I suspect you can get away with a +35 offset wheel.
I'm sorry for your under body, looks like Canada isn't too nice to the hardware and exposed fasteners. Great video though, I'll have to keep the Evo Brembo upgrade in mind if I decide my current Z32 setup is inefficient.
Also I was able to use the brackets on the E-brake cable. I have them drilled and tapped into the forward portion on the subframe. I did this because I had issues with the cables rubbing the drive shaft during a road trip.
Ryan Barber Winters and rust in general suck up here but what can you do!
Thats smart, I ziptied mine onto one of the brackets since it was coming loose on me and was worried about the same thing!
Speed Academy Yes I consider myself lucky, I've had very few issues with rust down here in the southern States.
You can use S14 5 lug hubs right?
Great videos guys. I thoroughly enjoy them.
Thank you!
I loved this video guys it was fun to watch and I leard some stuff to I was woundering if you guys can do a garage tour I would love to know about that RX7 and Datson in the background thanks for the awesome video
The RX7 is a friend of ours, Ken Wagan, who writes stories on the website (speed.academy) about the project but once it's all completed and ready to go we'll have some videos showing it in action come spring time.
As for the Datsun, that's also Kens but he's still not sure what he'll be doing with it.
Thank for responding and I have been on the webset its awesome.Just had to know about the cars they look so good.
Thanks so much for this series! Subscribed!!!
what size of thread and length of the 4 bolts on the front evo brake adapter?
+tam pham I have no clue. They were included with the kit that I bought from TougeFactory
Thank you for the relied. i found the information online,
the thread is M12 x 1.75 x 35 mm long.
What about master cylinder?
Spade connectors!? Wouldn't it have been better to cut the plug off the old unit and solder it on?
+UndergroundTrev Nope because the plug was different so it wouldnt fit. Id have to source a plug from a Z32 and I didnt have one.
What size wheel and tires are you using
+Mitchell Ngo he uses 17 x 9.5 + 28
Would 300zx rear brakes fit on s13 240sx?
+eric _1257 Yes, they fit up like the S14. If you are 5-lug already then it will be even easier.
Great video :) I might do this on my s14
Can i use the R33 brake cables in a S13?
+Moises Gonzalez Yup, they'll be just a tad on the long side but they'll still work.
¿tad?
(My english is thath good)
+Moises Gonzalez I know it's a late reply, but "tad" means "a little bit." As far as I know, most people used the z32 300zx cable on the S13, which is a little bit easier to find.
what body kit is on the S14?
That's all oem jdm
definitely liking the swap so no hate intended but this isn't a budget swap. just the rotors are a grand front and rear. and evo calipers are expensive as hell. it's a great swap it's what I'd like to do with mine but this is very easily a 2k swap.
they arent AP Racing money though, which they used before
calipers 200 bucks, get some regular rotors 150 bucks, r33 lines run you about 60 bucks used for both, e-brake assembly(shoes, backing plate, etc) 80 bucks. and rear z32 calipers are about 100 bucks or less.
What size tire I mean
Dayyyymmmm Daniel
I'll be leaving now
Wouldn't the specV brembos work too
Edgard Nightingale Yes Indeed, they're supposed to be a bolt on as well. However, the caliper is smaller then the Evo one. Nevertheless, it's still a worthwhile upgrade.
The explain was so good
could this be done on a 88 s12
after converting to s13 5 lug
+Travonte Sturgeon i want to know to for my s13, if i get the isr 5 lug kit
Whats up with the FD?
Its a Speed Academy project car, you can read all about it on the website speed.academy
Update on the brakes please
If you watch the track videos the brakes work too well, there's not enough modulation so I went with a smaller booster and it improved the performance and feel big time.
Speed Academy thank you speed academy. I have a new to me 1998 240sx. I love the brake booster mod. Cleans up the Engine bay a bit being smaller. Really after the hole brake set up you have here and hoping I won't regret it for a daily driver.
If you stay with a nice street friendly brake compound you shouldnt have any issues! If you have ABS then you'll be even better off!
Very Nice!
This video reminds me how much of money pits 240's are.
I miss my s13 but they require so much modding and upgrades to become decent. Then on the flip when you go to sell they don't hold value for nothin. I still regret all the time and effort I wasted into mine.
Bring back the ASS2000!
Or sell it to me. Either or lol
+NoOneImportant556 It really depends on the car you start with. If its a rat bag with problems then yeah but when you modify one from stock its not so bad.
+NoOneImportant556 Well, your first problem was not realizing that before you bought it.
I dreamed of having a 240sx since I was a kid. So for me, it doesn't matter how much money and time I sink into it, because I won't resell it ever. It's mine and only mine. 240's aren't your refurbish and turn for a profit kinda car, if that's your thing, they're more lifelong children that need to be raised from birth to adulthood.
Why don't you gravity bleed the brakes? The car isn't moving. Just pop a bleeder open and wait. You can do it all winter!
Good point! If the bench bleed didn't work I'll be doing it that way.
Speed Academy how much did this cost in parts? How much would it cost for someone to do this instead of me? Is there a way to get a complete parts list for this swap?
MePeeOnYourFace A breakdown of what you need is in both these stories: speed.academy/nissan-240sx-brembo-evo-big-brake-caliper-upgrade/
speed.academy/nissan-240sx-step-by-step-300zx-rear-brake-conversion/
As for cost, I'd hazard a shop would charge about 2-4 hours of labor so you're looking at $160+ and the parts of course.
Speed Academy thank you. That was a huge help. I'm doing everything myself in a one car garage while supporting a family. Need all the help I can get. Happy modifying!
Garage goals lmao
+Danish Naeem Our garage is not that great! You should be able to find something similar locally for relatively cheap.
master cylinder
Why the fuck aren't i subscribed yet! lol subbed
+1MartinPL Haha, thanks for the SUB!
Will the s15 brake booster work with this setup on an s14? My s14 booster is not working.
