Bookworms, who was your least favorite main character in a book? I really couldn't choose between Quentin from The Magicians and Holden from The Catcher in the Rye. What's yours?
I just re-read Catcher in the Rye and Holden is the worst.
I loved this book! Looks like we share some reading taste as I also enjoyed The Switch a lot!
Have you read The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson? It’s like a cross between these two books as the main character keeps to herself (not as dark as Eleanor though) and it has the cozy setting like The Switch 😊
Thanks for the review!!
I’m currently reading it. And I really want to enjoy it but I got to page 40 and found myself here rather then reading. I’m going to push through and hopefully I’ll be able to connect to it more. But at the minute I’m not sure.
I was in the same boat. I was listening to the audiobook and it was very awkward for me and I was questioning whether I wanted to continue it. My advice: stick it out. There is a lot to sink your teeth into by the end. There is definitely a payoff at the end that makes the first bit worth it.
yeah, the last third part of the book is so incredibly gut-wrenching and emotional, i would suggest to keep reading as it does have a good ending
I just thought Raymond and Laura were nice people, or maybe even neurodivergent and were able to understand her quirks a little. I did think it a bit unbelievable how out of touch she was with pop culture though. I get not understanding people and social norms but she didn’t recognize SpongeBob? Was she living under a rock? Like Patrick.
I will say that I was NOT expecting the ending. Thought that was really well done and changed the whole story for me.
I’m not that far through so I haven’t gotten to any mention of SpongeBob. But, I have just read a passage where she says her mother didn’t allow the tv. I went to school with a girl who’s mother was an RE teacher. They weren’t allowed to watch tv unless it was videos specifically approved by the parents and her and her sister were seen as pretty weird and genuinely didn’t understand most of the pop culture references our peers made. So, in my experience, it’s really not that unbelievable.
I’ve read a bit further now, and realise that she would have already been in foster care before the age I even knew said girl. Which does make it more puzzling. Since it does mention her foster homes seeming a lot more ‘mainstream’ then life with her mother. 😅
I loved this book!!
Chatgpt recommended this book to me and I love reading this. I am halfway through it
Same here
@@KakeSingh213 wow, enjoy reading
I would like to know WHO recommended to you? As I loved this book and her other recommendation The Switch By Beth OLeary
I'll try to look her up and will update... Can't promise anything though...
@@thebookworm6554 Yeah, I think if you know enough and more details about what all was recommended by this person, its important to mention the person too. I'm sure you wanted to, but couldnt. Still waiting to hear back from you on this.
@@ShivaniMenons Sorry, I tried but couldn't find that video. I watched it more than a year ago and only months later I picked up that book. It's not a UA-cam channel I often watch so I can't really see how I would find it again.
this book its the most reviewed book on Amazon
