Bought this game at launch. No regrets because it's easily one of the best games I ever played. It gave me a sense of awe that most other games failed to do in recent memory. Plus, I treat Gravity Rush as a lucid dream simulator because I would always fly/fall for fun in my dreams. The world itself is already dreamlike anyway.
The funny thing is that both this game and the first had some parts of the plot imply that it really is all a dream. Cynea is the Creator of Dream and in the first game she implies the reality they all live in is a dream of the real Cynea.
curryvid it was good, but after all that e3 hype it came off as more traditional and linear than people gave it credit for. There's nothing really groundbreaking about the game at all.
It's a shame how so many shity half-assed unoriginal broken and unfinished AAA games get more attention and sales compared to a game like Gravity Rush 2 witch is something so refreshing and original compared most modern AAA games

Indeed. I don't understand how this game has received so mediocre scores because it's really a great game. The atmosphere is lighthearted, the missions and characters are often amusing, the art style is gorgeous, the soundtrack is great and the gravity shifting is tons of fun. It's quite unique experience and I haven't played anything quite like it.
Gravity Rush 2 made me sad at the end, not because of the ending itself but because this is possibly the last in the series and Kat is such an endearing character that I didn't want her story to end. Just hearing the soundtrack gives me this great sense of depression. I dunno it's weird to explain.
Think about replaying years from now, or some time far enough in the near future where that experience will be comparable to ur first play through. That’s what I’m thinking about

i started playing gravity rush 1 the day you made your first video, by sheer coincidence. i platinumed it last night and started on the second tonight, by sheer coincidence. these games take me back to the ps2 era when games were *fun*, its been a feature missing for nearly a decade
the games were meant to be ps2 games original, keichiro toyama has had gravity rush 2 in his mind for over 10 years and wanted to make it their debut game as project siren after him and a bunch of team silent members formed it. I guess in a weird way its a bit of a blessing in disguise that it was a vita and ps4 game instead cause the tech of the ps2 era would not of done this justice.
Never got too far into this one, due to a large backlog, and fatigue after just finishing the first one, but I got it at launch to support the developers. This really feels like the game they truly wanted to make. It's bigger, better, and smoother in every way. Definitely gonna finish this one soon.

I love the first game but you forgot to mention the very bad stealth missions the game forces you into. The game mechanics do not lend well to stealth as this game is not made for those types of missions. Now, I would be fine if there was just one stealth mission and then it was over but the stealth missions continue throughout the whole game adding a level of continual annoyance to the experience. Also, the instant fail sections (which are also in the stealth sections) were terrible. I can understand having instant fail in a challenge section as that is labeled as a "challenge", but the instant fail parts were in the story missions creating even more frustration. I agree that the different styles that Kat can use is cool and provides optional ways to tackle missions but you forgot to mention the main story missions that restrict the style you're allowed to use. One mission has the player forced into the Heavy style against a Lighter enemy. This is really frustrating as I would try to switch styles to adapt to the situation, but I had to use the Heavy style. And yet again, this was a main mission not an optional "side" or "challenge" mission. I love the visuals and movement in the game but the level design really hurts the inconsistent experience. I will say that anyone interested should try this out! The Annoyances that bothered me may not bother you. Thanks for the video :)

I love this game it was a 9 for me most of the way through but after the mission that u described where u get the juniper power, and that stealth mission with the robot. This game became an 8 too many archaic gameplay mechanics. Instant mission fails and forced stealth and unskippable cutscenes are not fun at all. Which is a shame since the gravity powers are so unique and fresh... oh well
I love love LOVE this game. It's my favorite "superhero" game and that's coming from a guy who also loves the shit out of Infamous. This to me is the Kiki's Delivery Service of videogames
I just finished this game earlier today, I loved it. Not only was it expanded from the first game, but the story also was more multi-layered and it felt like our questions were finally answered. I'd also like to mention that the ending climax was nothing short of breathtaking, reminded me alot of Final Fantasy XV.
GR2 E3 demo footage was the reason I got into the series in the first place, and I'm really glad I did. So much passion and love was put into these games.

Kat's one of the most likeable characters ever due to her non-lewd cuteness, positivity and simple empathy. Best example of an female character done right. Whole series is just so compfy because it reminds me of Sega's "crazier" Dreamcast-days.
Personally I thought she was kinda bland and had no real motivation to do stuff other than being a really nice person. Even her goal of going back home falls flat almost instantly as she starts to get along with everybody in the mining within the first hour of playing. I didn't play Gravity Rush 1 so I might be missing something, but at least on 2 I saw no character development on her part. She starts and ends the same. That being said, I also liked that they didn't oversexualize her for the sake of fan-service, nor tried to force a romance just for the sake of having one. Her relationship with Raven is great too, it looks like a real friendship and not a fan-service-y lesbian ship in disguise.
Well, you've convinced me. The style didn't appeal me at first, but the open world set up is something I crave. And I've even dreamt of moving like the moon mode, as if you were in water, but without all the friction and weight, it felt amazing. So if I can get that in a game, I'm in.
One thing he should have mentioned is to skip all the side quests. The first game had five side quests that were DLC and gave new costumes, while the second one has way too many with almost no worthwhile reward or world building.
I spent the entire day yesterday exploring each city before I even started the next mission. Already loving this game. A step up in every way (except for the framerate, but the larger scale makes up for it)

Holy shit, I thought this series was just some puzzle game thingy but damn this looks awesome, I think I need to get PS4 cause this is what I need in my life.
I remember choking up when I finished this game, and really I didn't want to say goodbye to Kat, Sid, Raven and the other amazing characters. Definitely one of my favourite PS4 games.
I played both games back to back and I must say the second game felt ridiculously fast and much smoother than the first one. The change was so jarring to me that I couldn't keep up at first, because the first game had trained me to expect a certain slowdown between actions. And I think that's wonderful! The game is beautiful, feels good and has a story that really takes you places. I really liked Kat's and Raven's relationship in this, which was so different from the first game's. Also they released a free story DLC that explains a certain plot string that was seemingly abandoned from the first game, but turns out to have a very tragic yet nice explanation.
Took me 87hrs to get my Plat in Gravity Rush 2. Could have easily gotten it earlier, but didn't want to because like you said it's so much fun to explore and just play the game. Gravity Rush 2 is definitely one of my new favorite games.
One of my favorite games from this gen. My goty so far too. It is a crime this game selling so poorly. It kinda makes me lose hope regarding future games. Hell, even RE7 sold bad, a more recognizable series. You can't make interesting and out of the box games with the current gen of gamers. Regarding the director and possibility of a third game. The game ends without leaving much space for another sequel. As Kat says, that was the story of the gravity queen. And the director being who he is, i doubt he would want to milk the series more. If there is a third game it will probable have a different director. Not to mention the poor sales which is another barrier. I love the series, both games. It is sad knowing that this is probably the last time we will see Kat and her "gang" and the amazing world of gravity rush. But at least we got to see it and experience it. A great series and universe to explore.
CabooseAzul Sadly, games like TitanFall 2, Watch Dogs 2, Dishorned 2 and Resident Evil 7 don't seem to be doing well despite the critical acclaim. The good part is that we know the developers are paying attention to how well these games are doing.
I'm very choosy when it comes to picking game. I didn't want to play gravity rush but when I played it.. instantly became a fan. Can't wait to play 2nd part
I'm like 80% through the game, and my biggest issue is the that sidequests are all pretty annoying. Especially the ones where you have to run around and talk to NPCs until you finally stumble upon the one that will tell you something. Moving around in this game is so much fun, and it seems like most of the missions in the game want you firmly on solid ground. I had more fun with the timed challenge missions, to be honest. Stealth missions suck all the fun out of the game, and there's way too many of them. The new styles feel a bit underutilized. The combat is definitely improved, but I still find myself using gravity kicks much more than other moves. I do really appreciate that throwing objects is now not only viable, but the best way to handle large groups. Still a solid game, like the first one. Story and characters are better, which is nice.
This game is just full of charm! And the throwing mechanic was improved almost too much in this game! In the first one, I only ever used it when it was necessary, the auto gravity shift was annoying and the aiming was all over the place! But in this one I've invested all my points into gravity throwing!! It's so much fun and so much easier than the gravity kick or normal attack xD Also, this review just reminded me to replay the first and second game... god i love it
It's also my favourite series since the vita and soon we're going to get the free Raven expansion! l hope that draws more supporters to get more GR games.
Just finished this game and I've got to say this was some of the most fun I've had in a game in a long time. Reminded me of my time as a 7/8 year old playing Super Mario Galaxy when it came out. Definitely recommend. I won't say it's the "best game ever" as some of the fans seem to say, but it's definitely one of my favorite games I've played

I've instantly became a fan of the series. One of the best games i've ever played. Looking forward for the free DLC comming up next week.

I'm planning to get this game somewhere this year. I just got myself RE7 and having a good time with it at the moment. I like the first GR game so getting this game someday is a no-brainer to me. I hope to see unique games like this in the future. Finally this generation is picking up some steam after few dry years.
I also delayed the end of the game, cuz it's basically my most favorite thing ever, and I was really disappointed about the dlc. I really want this game to continue, and not just as a game. With a little changes in story, this would make the best anime ever, since it has the characters, the music, the art, and the story! Not to mention they have Kat :-)
Loved the game myself. Although I have to say that even if it's technically a better and more substantial game than the first, I did come out with more mixed feelings. I feel like it gets a bit bogged down around 2/3-3/4 point. The main story missions feel like a bit of a slog at that point, with some bad boss fights and terrible stealth sections. Also a lot of unenjoyable challenge missions get introduced there too. But thankfully it gets redeemed by the last string of missions. I loved that epilogue sequence. Even though they answered a bunch of questions the first game left open, they presented a whole bunch more new questions too. I'd love the series to continue so they can explore that stuff. But at the same time, I kind of like that there's a sense of mystery to the games, and there's always more to know. So if we never get a Gravity Rush 3, I'm okay with what we got. GR2 is a great game and a great sequel, so I won't be left feeling "what if?"
Got Remastered and 2 at once during the week 3 of sales. (Along with a shit ton of other games earlier in the sale cuz I have psvr, oh and I got a lot of pc games too) Overall I played Gravity Rush Remastered super quickly (and I even pretty much collected a shit ton and did a bunch of the test things) It was amazing, one of my favorite games of this generation. I'm going to play a few games between it and 2 even though I know I'll miss out on the online stuff and a costume, I think it's worth it to not get burned out on it even though I really want to play 2. I'll probably play final fantasy type 0, finish resi 7 in vr (whenever my friend comes along), and a few others on pc before I hop back into Gravity Rush 2. Gravity Rush just from the remaster of a vita game I can confidently say: one of the best video game series around. Lol at my free time with the inpatient, ni no kuni 2, and yakuza 6 coming.

I'm not really interested in this kind of game, but I gotta say the world in Gravity Rush 2 looks stunningly beautiful. The draw distance looks great and the art style is this cool drawn style that I find pleasing to look at.
I kept hearing the story gets bad in the second half of the game but I finally got it a week ago and took 5 days to platinum it (in retrospect I got Gravity Rush Remastered back in May during a sale and got the platinum in 6 days and then a month later I got the platinum for a friend in just 3 days) and I thought the second half of the story was perfectly fine. Sure, it felt like it could've fit into an anime or something and the final boss made me go "wow this is something" but it didn't bother me or anything. They laid out some sequel hooks so a 3rd entry is possible but I guess we'll have to see. I've played plenty of games from 2017 but I have to say this is definitely my GOTY, it truly is one if the best sequels to come out in a while and I wish more AAA games did sequels as amazing as this one was handled.

I've been meaning to pick this game up. Mind if I ask how jarring the drop to 30 fps is? When I played the remaster of the first game, with so much camera movement going on, I sorta felt that 60 fps was almost a necessity for this kind of game. So when I heard that Gravity Rush 2 was targeting 30, I was a bit surprised. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but I am curious.
just to add, the 30 fps drop actually wasnt noticible for me and it actually took me a bit to realize the frame rates were different cause the game runs very smoothly all around. That said there is 1 part of the game where it goes full drakengard 3 in frame rate, the rest of the game runs at a perfect 30 without frame pacing but in 1 side quest very late in the game kat impersonates a movie star and has to attract over 100 fans to follow her through the streets, and rendering said 100 individual character models all running towards you causes the game to dip so insanely low its kind of comical especially cause its the only part of the game with any dips.
Bad news for Gravity Rush 2 players: The online feature will be going off in 2018. So buy the game if you haven't and try to get as many unlockable as possible.
This is the best PS4 exclusive. It's also one of the only good exclusives on that system, and Sony should be ashamed of themselves for shafting it. If we're not getting any more incredible Japanese-developed exclusives like this, then I'm not interested in getting a PS5.

This game would've failed badly on the PS2. Even on the PS4 the controls are wonky to say the least, good thing they waited.
Shortly after releasing the video, Bit died from exhaustion from 14 hours of work and one hour of sleep before going back to work.

I didn't play Gravity Rush 1 so I might be missing something, but at least on 2 I saw no character development on her part. She starts and ends the same.
That being said, I also liked that they didn't oversexualize her for the sake of fan-service, nor tried to force a romance just for the sake of having one. Her relationship with Raven is great too, it looks like a real friendship and not a fan-service-y lesbian ship in disguise.

Well, you've convinced me. The style didn't appeal me at first, but the open world set up is something I crave. And I've even dreamt of moving like the moon mode, as if you were in water, but without all the friction and weight, it felt amazing. So if I can get that in a game, I'm in.

One thing he should have mentioned is to skip all the side quests. The first game had five side quests that were DLC and gave new costumes, while the second one has way too many with almost no worthwhile reward or world building.
I spent the entire day yesterday exploring each city before I even started the next mission. Already loving this game. A step up in every way (except for the framerate, but the larger scale makes up for it)
I'm so sad we'll probably never get another Forbidden Siren game from these dudes.
Man, I saw a review of Gravity Rush on the Australian T.V. show Good Game about 5 years ago but never remembered what it was called. I'm so glad to have found it finally.

I remember choking up when I finished this game, and really I didn't want to say goodbye to Kat, Sid, Raven and the other amazing characters. Definitely one of my favourite PS4 games.
I played both games back to back and I must say the second game felt ridiculously fast and much smoother than the first one. The change was so jarring to me that I couldn't keep up at first, because the first game had trained me to expect a certain slowdown between actions. And I think that's wonderful! The game is beautiful, feels good and has a story that really takes you places.
I really liked Kat's and Raven's relationship in this, which was so different from the first game's. Also they released a free story DLC that explains a certain plot string that was seemingly abandoned from the first game, but turns out to have a very tragic yet nice explanation.
Took me 87hrs to get my Plat in Gravity Rush 2. Could have easily gotten it earlier, but didn't want to because like you said it's so much fun to explore and just play the game. Gravity Rush 2 is definitely one of my new favorite games.

It is a crime this game selling so poorly. It kinda makes me lose hope regarding future games.
Hell, even RE7 sold bad, a more recognizable series. You can't make interesting and out of the box games with the current gen of gamers.
Regarding the director and possibility of a third game.
The game ends without leaving much space for another sequel. As Kat says, that was the story of the gravity queen. And the director being who he is, i doubt he would want to milk the series more. If there is a third game it will probable have a different director.
Not to mention the poor sales which is another barrier.
I love the series, both games. It is sad knowing that this is probably the last time we will see Kat and her "gang" and the amazing world of gravity rush. But at least we got to see it and experience it.

CabooseAzul Sadly, games like TitanFall 2, Watch Dogs 2, Dishorned 2 and Resident Evil 7 don't seem to be doing well despite the critical acclaim. The good part is that we know the developers are paying attention to how well these games are doing.

I'm like 80% through the game, and my biggest issue is the that sidequests are all pretty annoying. Especially the ones where you have to run around and talk to NPCs until you finally stumble upon the one that will tell you something. Moving around in this game is so much fun, and it seems like most of the missions in the game want you firmly on solid ground. I had more fun with the timed challenge missions, to be honest.
Stealth missions suck all the fun out of the game, and there's way too many of them. The new styles feel a bit underutilized. The combat is definitely improved, but I still find myself using gravity kicks much more than other moves. I do really appreciate that throwing objects is now not only viable, but the best way to handle large groups.
Still a solid game, like the first one. Story and characters are better, which is nice.

This game is just full of charm! And the throwing mechanic was improved almost too much in this game! In the first one, I only ever used it when it was necessary, the auto gravity shift was annoying and the aiming was all over the place! But in this one I've invested all my points into gravity throwing!! It's so much fun and so much easier than the gravity kick or normal attack xD
Also, this review just reminded me to replay the first and second game... god i love it
It's also my favourite series since the vita and soon we're going to get the free Raven expansion!

Just finished this game and I've got to say this was some of the most fun I've had in a game in a long time. Reminded me of my time as a 7/8 year old playing Super Mario Galaxy when it came out. Definitely recommend.
I won't say it's the "best game ever" as some of the fans seem to say, but it's definitely one of my favorite games I've played
Awesome review, man. Nicely summed up all the improvements over the first game and the uniqueness. I got a PS4 slim one month ago, played gravity rush remastered and then i had to get GR2 right away. I've instantly became a fan of the series. One of the best games i've ever played. Looking forward for the free DLC comming up next week.

I'm planning to get this game somewhere this year. I just got myself RE7 and having a good time with it at the moment. I like the first GR game so getting this game someday is a no-brainer to me. I hope to see unique games like this in the future. Finally this generation is picking up some steam after few dry years.
I also delayed the end of the game, cuz it's basically my most favorite thing ever, and I was really disappointed about the dlc. I really want this game to continue, and not just as a game. With a little changes in story, this would make the best anime ever, since it has the characters, the music, the art, and the story! Not to mention they have Kat :-)
Loved the game myself. Although I have to say that even if it's technically a better and more substantial game than the first, I did come out with more mixed feelings. I feel like it gets a bit bogged down around 2/3-3/4 point. The main story missions feel like a bit of a slog at that point, with some bad boss fights and terrible stealth sections. Also a lot of unenjoyable challenge missions get introduced there too. But thankfully it gets redeemed by the last string of missions. I loved that epilogue sequence.
Even though they answered a bunch of questions the first game left open, they presented a whole bunch more new questions too. I'd love the series to continue so they can explore that stuff. But at the same time, I kind of like that there's a sense of mystery to the games, and there's always more to know. So if we never get a Gravity Rush 3, I'm okay with what we got. GR2 is a great game and a great sequel, so I won't be left feeling "what if?"

Got Remastered and 2 at once during the week 3 of sales.
(Along with a shit ton of other games earlier in the sale cuz I have psvr, oh and I got a lot of pc games too)
Overall I played Gravity Rush Remastered super quickly (and I even pretty much collected a shit ton and did a bunch of the test things)
It was amazing, one of my favorite games of this generation. I'm going to play a few games between it and 2 even though I know I'll miss out on the online stuff and a costume, I think it's worth it to not get burned out on it even though I really want to play 2.
I'll probably play final fantasy type 0, finish resi 7 in vr (whenever my friend comes along), and a few others on pc before I hop back into Gravity Rush 2.

I'm not really interested in this kind of game, but I gotta say the world in Gravity Rush 2 looks stunningly beautiful. The draw distance looks great and the art style is this cool drawn style that I find pleasing to look at.

I kept hearing the story gets bad in the second half of the game but I finally got it a week ago and took 5 days to platinum it (in retrospect I got Gravity Rush Remastered back in May during a sale and got the platinum in 6 days and then a month later I got the platinum for a friend in just 3 days) and I thought the second half of the story was perfectly fine.
Sure, it felt like it could've fit into an anime or something and the final boss made me go "wow this is something" but it didn't bother me or anything. They laid out some sequel hooks so a 3rd entry is possible but I guess we'll have to see.
I've played plenty of games from 2017 but I have to say this is definitely my GOTY, it truly is one if the best sequels to come out in a while and I wish more AAA games did sequels as amazing as this one was handled.

I've been meaning to pick this game up. Mind if I ask how jarring the drop to 30 fps is? When I played the remaster of the first game, with so much camera movement going on, I sorta felt that 60 fps was almost a necessity for this kind of game. So when I heard that Gravity Rush 2 was targeting 30, I was a bit surprised. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but I am curious.
It didn't bother me. The original game was definitely not 60fps on Vita, so the Remaster was just a one time treat.

just to add, the 30 fps drop actually wasnt noticible for me and it actually took me a bit to realize the frame rates were different cause the game runs very smoothly all around. That said there is 1 part of the game where it goes full drakengard 3 in frame rate, the rest of the game runs at a perfect 30 without frame pacing but in 1 side quest very late in the game kat impersonates a movie star and has to attract over 100 fans to follow her through the streets, and rendering said 100 individual character models all running towards you causes the game to dip so insanely low its kind of comical especially cause its the only part of the game with any dips.

This is the best PS4 exclusive. It's also one of the only good exclusives on that system, and Sony should be ashamed of themselves for shafting it. If we're not getting any more incredible Japanese-developed exclusives like this, then I'm not interested in getting a PS5.

GR2 reallly let me down. expected a lot more from the sequel. it was better and bigger than the first but seems like a wasted opportunity to fix what was tedious or bad about that title that i could more easily excuse for a new IP on a handheld
