When the screenwriter, director, and scorer all understand the same vision, they can create absolute magic. This scene is an ultimate example…
Don't forget the editor!
@@dubbeking and cinematographer and actors
@@alexeyvishnyakov8132 and just the entire crew basically lol
He did so well with this role because he's arrogant, charming and condescending naturally
Jealous much
This is like what, the best scene ever? That's what happens when you put a good screenwriter and a good director together.
Its the trifecta good Screenwriter, Director and Actors
sorkin sent the script to fincher on a whim and he said, I'll do it
I'd say Reznor has his thumbprints on this scene just as much as Fincher and Sorkin did.
@@jjpoppy972 True, same reason (one of the many) why Gone girl is also one of his best. The gripping rhythm.
Sorry for nitpicking, but Sorkin and Fincher are a little more than just "good" 😏 As for the scene, yeah, it is quite PERFECT, just like the whole movie I'd add 👌🏻
The music is so perfect. If you're in Mark's position at this point in the movie, this scene is a rush of endorphins like you're a newly crowned king with the admiration and devotion of everyone around. If you're Eduardo, it's intimidating how fast you're losing power and influence to the new guy who is winning everyone over with such easy charisma and charm. I love the ambiguity-it's electric and terrifying all at once.
"Private behavior is a relic of a time gone by."
Ironic in a movie about Facebook.
Unless one is part of a vastly wealthy family who pays Forbes not to put them in their magazine. The only way for anonymity and privacy is simply paying magazine companies like Forbes to not be mentioned so they can get away with anything. Just think of these people as the legal versions of crime families like the Five Families in NYC.
@@darkmagician2521
Which ends up being the exact same thing. 99.9% of people in the world don’t have resources or connections of that calibre, to “remain private and untouched”. So, the movie did a good job forecasting how things would be today.
Jesus. Ya think?
More apt than ironic.
Isn't that the point?
I was really surprised how decent Justin Timberlake’s performance was as Sean given most musicians have tried and failed at acting, but I guess that what happens when you’re teamed up with such a talented director in David Fincher. Apparently Jonah Hill was considered, but I think Justin really brought something with his role.
Timberlake’s casting is also ironic on two fronts: Timberlake’s boy band NSYNC were one of the biggest artists affected by Napster in the late 90’s/early 00’s, and in 2011, Justin bought his own social network with MySpace which was once the largest social networking site in the world before being surpassed by Facebook in 2008.
Hes pretty talented, Loved him in Alpha Dog and In Time
@@taina2622 TSN is definitely the peak with his sporadic film career which was mainly big in 2008-12 when he had his hiatus from music.
Jonah Hill was considered for Sean Parker? That’s hard to imagine.
He is actually a great actor. In Time was a wicked movie
@@georgeofhamilton yeah, he was, but I think Justin’s casting was great as it was and ironic.
I've always found "his biggest contribution to the company" has two meanings.
1. In one way, it's huge. It's how everyone will know it forever. Sean completely upturned the company down to leaving his mark on its name.
2. In another way, it's miniscule. He removed one word from the name and that was his BIGGEST contribution. Sean's expertise is in words and appearances, not in the hard work of actually making anything.
In Chinese, or at least there is a saying in Malaysia, "靠一张嘴巴吃饭“, which literally translates to relying on one mouth to eat rice. It is used to describe people like Sean as having no real skills or talent, never put in any kind of real work/effort and only knows how to use his mouth to get what he wants.
That’s a good point, it could have two meanings and Eduardo could have meant it more sarcastically. The way he felt about Sean definitely plays into the line having a more sarcastic tone. Parker of course did contribute and got investors to put money into the company and you can bet Eduardo wouldn’t bring that up lol because it obviously made him obsolete and he wasn’t needed.
It's huge BECAUSE it's miniscule... Facebook had a lot of competitors & Mark stole the idea from others at his own school to begin with. Being "Harvards" gave it the initial prestige but the marketing is what pushed it to win out over the others... part of that marketing was dropping the "The" from the name.
Regardless of what was meant by that comment, branding states that , Facebook is more catching then The Facebook. Not everything valuable, has to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest change brings the most value.
Now, lets not forget , without Sean Parker, there would be no Peter Thiel and without Peter Thiel, facebook wouldnt have raised a dime and would have failed . So, without Sean Parker, there would be no facebook . All facebook was at that time, was just another social networking site and there were many to include the biggest of them all, Myspace.
Sean ordered the same drinks for 4 at the beginning of the meeting but in the end, only he and Mark had the same drinks. Eduardo and the girl were out of the equation
No, Sean had also switched drinks. Looks like coffee at the end.
Sean was being a pathetic simp only ordering what alcoholic drink thr girl wants inflating female narcissism
@@lewstone5430 that's because Sean was only trying to drink everyone under the table and then run off with his equity.
@@mastershredder2002 sounds right.
@@mastershredder2002 Nice try. If Eddie Saverin had his way, Facebook would have been a local website with little advertisers like Sean alluded to later in the movie when Saverin flew out. Sean had the connections that Saverin simply did not, so even if Saverin put up the $1,000 in the beginning, Sean was entitled to much more ownership stock than Saverin. Over 50 lawyers have confirmed this in multiple studies. Eddie Saverin is lucky he got a small portion of the site. He didn't have the mind to think big.
A big reason (among many) this scene is so riveting is that great music score, full of pounding energy. Love how it stops dead in its track with the statement: "A Billion Dollars!"
The title of the film should have been just "Social Network". Its cleaner
Lol, disagree!
In this particular case the extra "the" adds a certain seriousness, and even a sort of foreboding.
Justin's acting is actually really great in this scene. Underrated performance
He Forced Britney Spears To Get An Abortion He Can Burn In HeII
Andrew Garfield who plays Eduardo is masterful in this scene. You can get cues that he's annoyed and feels under appreciated. Great body language, pace, and facial expressions.
It was wonderful how much of a diverse cast they utilized throughout this movie as well. I think that was the most important item in the movie, opening the doors even further and encouraging those from marginalized communities that they can star in a movie as well.
@@pb4ugo2bed84 its based on real events lol
agreed!!! that subtle jaw movement he did when being interrupted by sean was so good!!!
Parker was a charismatic swindler, and those types combined with business intelligence equal a recipe for success.
He’s just a conman.
@@guccimane3731But it works
So many amazing details in this scene:
0:18 After Sean asks Christy what she likes to drink, Eduardo defensively puts his arm around her
0:50 Eduardo is the only one looking down and not having fun
2:23 After Sean says, "you wanna buy a Tower Records Eduardo?" Mark looks so smug in the corner
2:46 (my favorite) Sean interrupts Eduardo talking about their stats and even though Mark starts talking, we hold on Eduardo as he sinks back down
3:25 Eduardo realizes Mark has been completely validated by what Sean is saying, so he sets his dessert down and leans back, already defeated
4:08 Mark is just staring at Sean, enamored, even though Eduardo and Christy are talking
And Eduardo is completely not listening to what is being said. Th juxtaposition between his impression as described in the deposition and what actually happened. That is why they cut to Mark to react. Eduardo already hated the guy and was being a dick but he had no game and got crushed so he couldn't just set it aside it just grew.
1:45 "you're a target for high priced escorts" eduardo's jealous girlfriend shoots him an anxious look
It’s amazing how little things can blow you away in successive rewatchings of a good movie...
I still don't understand what it meant when Sean asked if Eduardo if he wanted to buy a Tower Records! At this point I'm afraid to ask!
@@domovoibutler42 Tower Records beat Napster in court, but they continued to decline when they went out of business. Sean is saying, "yeah they won in court but did they really win in the long run? Do you think they're valuable now?"
The scene amazing, Sean really can talk then walk away leaving them something to think about with one last words to prove his worth "drop the the, just Facebook".
Did You See The Look On Marks Face? If Parker Dropped His Pants And Told Mark Get On His Knees He Would Have In Front Of Everybody! What An Embarrasing man Crush Scene.
Changes to "Just Facebook"
Somewhere in this scene is really what it's all about in reality, isn't it? Ed Saverin was never even expecting Facebook to become a billion dollar company, let alone the behemoth it is today. Zuck saw him as someone who would hold the company back, and being the robot he is, took appropriate actions.
That's exactly how I saw it too! But he's an evil genius because maybe he was a little right but that's his best friend. Does he have no soul?
ed is just another generic businessman who thinks more about the money rather than the actual product. mark is someone who knows that you earn far more money when you simply build a great product, rather than trying to squeeze as much money out of a bad product
“Ed Saverin was never even expecting Facebook to become a billion dollar company”
You completely invented this, no where in the movie is this idea communicated to us.
@@lewstone5430Nunca. Es quería meterle publicidad él mismo.
Sean Parker contaba con grandes inversores como el cofundador de PayPal.
Hay grandes diferencias.
Sean miraba más.
This writing is amazing. The dialogue from Arron Sorkin is on another level
Sean is clearly written as the most unlikeable character in the movie and Eduardo as the most likable (how they truly were in real life, I don’t think anyone will completely know).
The thing is, as smart, practical, and hard working as Eduardo’s character is, the douchey Sean is correct about everything regarding Facebook. What it is, where they are, what they shouldn’t do, and what it will become. The nice guy was wrong and very short sighted.
It had the opposite effect on me. I liked sean and disliked eduardo more and more. He was just a commoner with no vision and could’ve held facebook down.
Sean wasn’t bad aside from the computer smash scene
@@kakashi1300 haha he still ended up being a billionaire even if you don't count the lawsuit money he won. He must have done something right. Hardly a "commoner".
@@jamesmchugh2936 what he’s done something right is be at the right place at the right time. There are many others like eduardo who could’ve done the same thing, maybe more. Nothing special. But he did not have the vision mark had.
@@kakashi1300 No one has the vision mark has. He only is capable of seeing 0s and 1s.
So many noticeable details from Christy in this I finally get why she's included in the scene. Favorite one so far is 3:46 when Christy glances at Eduardo after realizing that her boyfriend could be valued at 1 billion dollars one day.
Also 01:43, when Sean says "....you're a target for high priced escorts." She also looks at him in such a way, thinking about her boyfriend being targeted by paid women.
Nice observation. That explains why she became psycho later on
2:00 and when he says you “wipe your chin and walk away” she looks down and hangs her head lol
Haha. When Sean Parker says Christy's boyfriend Eduardo could be valued at 1 billion dollars one day, she first glances at Eduardo's crotch. LOL
Man that detail, wow nice eye
this scene is so crisp
Even though Eduardo just saw this as self serving, recounting his history and talking about the experience of being a startup was the most valuable thing Sean could have told them. They didn't need help with programming or securing old investors.
"Private behavior is a relic of a time gone by."
NSA: *breathes heavily*
The Paranoid part is actually true in 2023. Whatever is going to trip you up, you've already done. Great Line
He killed this role....I loved seeing him go down the Red Carpet for the Oscars....JT you're the man!!!
I swear to god, Aaron Sorkin’s dialogue is like music.
When the smart kid and popular kid collaborate
in this case Sean was both
To create sean
this script is on a different level
Sean Parker meets Peter Parker and Lex Luthor.
That's not peter parker I will refuse to call him by that role that version of spider man sucked imo actor tho he was great just a bad script
@@hello-4503 fair enough, then you can call him Desmond Doss, I don't think anyone would disagree to that.
@@mehzaddhrubo9006 you're gonna act like London Tipton ain't sitting in the middle of that table? 😁
For some reason I always come back for 0:30 to 0:37...its just too perfect.
The soundtrack is amazing
it wasn't til the scene ended that i realised i was semi-holding my breath the entire time. BRILLIANT scene!!
0:25 I love the subtle arm that edwardo/andrew puts around Christy, showing he’s already untrusting of Sean, great acting
I love the frenzied background music, in contrast to Sean's cool fast pace.
Thank you Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
1:44 such a great detail, look at Christy's reaction when Sean says they'll be target for high priced escorts. The seeds of jealousy and paranoia have been planted. Doubt it was intentional on Sean's part, but just another way he turned Eduardo's life into a living hell lol.
This score slaps! You’re the best, Trent!
JT nailed that part! HAHAHA!
For the first 30 seconds we saw of him here, he was an absolute G. Introduced himself with confidence, knew the wait staff on a first name basis, took control of the ordering, and asked the lady what she wanted to drink
This scene and its dialogue have such large sense of excess, with Mark being absolutely intoxicated by Sean’s personality and ideas, and at 0:35, you can see the waitress bringing them another round despite the fact that their drinks are still fairly full. Awesome production detail!
"ads aren't cool" okay.
I came here just to see if anyone posted this comment. Every other thing that pops up on my FB is an ad. It just used to be a places where me and my friends would post silly stuff, just to unplug for a few minutes out of the day lol
yeah that one scene where Mark is like "No ads" had me wheezing
@@brandondaniels9471 the internet in 2005 was way different than 2009. After 2008 the internet changed for good.
Yes. Ads aren't cool. Hence why Mark/Sean wanted to wait for Facebook to become huge before introducing ads.
This is the case with a lot of tech start-ups. Growth first, profitability later
@@zaidabraham7310😊
Thanks for posting this
The blink Andrew Garfield made for the cringe inducing moment for his reaction was great: 2:10
Amazing
Sean Parker: ...and you are dry
Me: No Sean... She wasn't.
Maybe a hint of his paranoid and delusional behaviour, or a bit of a stretch from my part?
Of course Sean recognizes "The Little Bighorn" (using the schools around Baylor to get to Baylor) -- he spotted right away he wasn't going to win over Eduardo, so he put a charm offensive on Christy. The man made a few billion dollars for the price of a few appletinis.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
I honestly can't decide which one was a bigger jerk: Sean Parker or Mark Zuckerberg. Poor Eduardo.
Sean. He manipulated mark
@@matthewehrlich5157 Yeah. Eduardo was right on the money. "He owned Mark after that dinner." Sean was everything that Mark wanted to be: slick, charismatic, business savvy, devil-may-care, etc. I think Sean recognized that and used it to wrap Mark around his little finger.
@@samcostello2861 then he stays at his house for free and puts down Ed cus he can tell he's on to him!
I feel bad for Eduardo, but he was wrong. If they would have put ads on fb from the jump it would have never popped off
Eduardo is still like 2.5 billion net worth lol
Never caught that he looks dead in the eyes of both the guys when greeting them, but briefly checks out Christy.
The 3 best scenes in the movie:
3. Eduardo confronts Mark at Facebook HQ after the lawyers told him his shares were diluted.
2. Mark and Sean talk at the club with music blaring.
1. This one.
Justin was the best choice to play Sean. It couldn't have been anyone else.
James Cameron: My graphics are so good, they look real.
David Fincher: My color scheme is so sharp, they look like graphics.
For god sake, look at that clarity.
I love the track in the BG
14-Ghosts II - NIN
David Fincher is a genius
I fucking love Trent Reznor and Atticus Ros
Ok this scene was pretty spectacular
The idea of a unicorn startup was a big deal at the time. Now it's a wednesday.
Drop the 'THE'
Sean Parker's act was a bit much, and remember, he's only about four years older than Mark and Eduardo, but I think the point of this scene is the following:
1. For Facebook to take the next step, it had to relocate to California. That's where the Silicon Valley money was and where the engineering talent necessary to grow the company was.
2. Sean's vision was more inline with Mark's than Eduardo's.
3. Eduardo wasn't fully "all in." He's living on the East Coast, wants to continue going to school, wants to intern at another company, and he almost treats FB as a side gig.
Sean Parker stated that he wished his life was that cool.
Justin Timberlake resembles Mark more than Jesse honestly xD
A robot with lifelike rubber skin resembles Mark more than any actual human being
Jesse nailed the roll though.
Pork + Tuna + Lobster? Thats a guaranteed diarrhea.
Nah salmon could give you diarrhea

Not if you get small servings.
Justin has never been better playing a smarmy disrespectful sponge in his whole career, something tells me this is pretty much who he is
no it's just called being a good actor and being handed a good script.
Nice to meet you Sean Parker fan boy
Omg stfu, y'all are on his music videos and performances and now in his movie scenes too??? Just say that he is good at acting in movies. Obsessed and hating all the time.
You obviously haven’t seen PALMER, on Apple TV+...
The reaction of the Asian chick makes this scene more enjoyable.
People who think that changing the name was Sean's biggest contribution needs to get a clue. He had the connections to the necessary investors that raised enough capital to keep them going until they started being profitable.
So, peter thiel?
Where can i watch this? Netflix doesn't have it. Thanks
How things turned in the end. In this scene Mark is conquered by Sean. In the final scene Mark fires Sean.
Perfect music for this scene.
Which music.?
@@naveent4738 On the soundtrack, “Magnet.”
Andrew Garfield's facial expression is what I love during this scene. You can tell just by watching his eyes how annoyed and doesn't trust Sean. He was absolutely right about Sean Parker from the very beginning. Anytime it focuses on Andrew Garfield, he's looking down, not having a good time and sighs. 1:00
"You know what's cool?"
"You?"
*A million dollars. And that shut everyone up.*

See how Sean and Mark had an espresso and the the others had coffees. Subtle way to show the rupture at the table.

It's a movie. The social network
Not a huge fan of Eduardo, but I feel the way they squeezed him out was very unjustified. Before Sean, Eduardo was the cool one. Sean basically made him into a nerd and it got him jealous.
Justin Timberlake nailed this role.
"But we all know marlins don't really weigh 3,000 pounds, right?" Well _this_ marlin (meaning Facebook) did

That’s Sorkin for ya. Remember when people thought Zucks was some alpha genius lol
I did not appreciate the film at first because they made up so much stuff that it essentially fiction. Looking at clips now I appreciate it more.
In the end Sean Parker was right legally Napster lost to all those records companies who sued but realistically it was only a matter of time before those same companies would have to adapt to the new reality of music being shared on the internet
Which, from what I heard from another comment, Napster declared bankruptcy in '06? They supposedly revamped recently, but by then, UA-cam, Spotify, and other streaming services popped up to fill the vacuum.
