I rebuild my bike & ride it for the first time at the Pathfinder gravel event in Eindhoven, which always escalates into something resembling a race...

On my convert to single speed i just reduced the chain and it is fine. (As far as I know?!) what am I missing?
Cause you have been lucky! What if your chain had been slightly too long? Cutting more of it is not an option because it would be too short. That’s the meaning of straight dropouts on siglespeed and or fixed gear bike! So, on Through axle seems a good solution to get it done! Sure, there are others way to go, but this is fine! Sorry if I explain it to you kinda boring way, should have replied with a joke or not replied at all.. but my love for bikes kicked in 😅
Probably, but he casually managed to built one😂 maybe u don’t know the difference between a singlespeed and a fixedgear bike.. just a guess!

Shimano uses mineral sram uses dot fluid so no brake hoses must change or you will destroy brakes

Really awesome making the switch to a straight bar. It really makes a bike feel a whole lot different. A lot more traction on the winter trails and mud. Fun fact: surly has a corner bar that let's you mount the mtb shift and brake levers into a drop bar position even without changing any cables. I use it on my titanium mtb with rigid fork and it's a blast!
I'd really love to see more rides with this new build.

If you are getting sore wrists on a flat bar, look at more sweep on the bar and SQlab grips are a game changer. Great Vid

2 things I have found out from riding a single speed are; 1. do plank pose for an extended period of time. This will tell you the exact width you should be using for your flat bars. My wrists did better with old school 420cm riser bars with a slight curve to them. 2. Living in a desert where thorns abound, I found the best solution is tube protectors and tubes. Only time I get a flat is a defect in the tube. Much lighter and more supple than your set up.

really dig mixed up (weird?) stuff like this. i mixed my all rounder too, road crank,mtbs cassete,flatbar,700x35c tire. it goes the same with my track bike too. aero style frames with flat wide bar 😁😁😁

May I suggest a set of gloves and an apron while bleeding brakes?
Shimano and SRAM Brake parts are not cross compatible.
That's because Shimano uses mineral oil and SRAM uses Dot 4/5.1.
The seals will get damaged.
I guess that is also the case for the hydraulic brake cable, but I'm not sure.

There are lots of “bike packing” flat bars that have loads of back sweep on them to save your wrists - might be worth a play? Planet X sell a few for £20 as a cheap way of test

Dear Martijn, I love flat-handle-bar bikes - your build looks awesome. Don't laugh ! What catched my attention in.your video is on the wall of garden. This water-collecting thing. What's the name for this in the Netherlands, it looks very goofy from the design standpoint of view. I love it !

I think the Flask is flat because it's suppose to go in your pocket. Mounting it on the fork isn't even convenient.
Looks really cool! Almost like the old skool MTB's. :D For the long rides on my MTB I have installed Spirgrips. Works great to get slightly more aero and give you a nice different hand position.

Geen onderdelen van Shimano en Sram remmen uitwisselen, zelfs niet de remleidingen. Shimano levers en remmen zin bedoeld voor minerale olie, Sram gebruikt DOT. Dat moet je absoluut niet mixen.

Sram cable are 1.2 mm , Shimano 1,3mm. The sram trigger has a micro adjustment System, and as i tried the same changes on my bombtrack, it’s doesn‘t really work well. I changed to scram sram cables in the shimano tubes and i‘m happy with this combination.
Hi great video, I did this to a GT avalanche years ago one bit of advice I can give is use a rear cog with a double width base less chance of it cutting into your freehub and destroying it

05:38 I ride the Atlas 6.8 with the standard setup. Although, for next season I want to do some upgrades. I am thinking about a flared drop handlebar. I know they can be quite wide. Any suggestions for a 170 cm women?
jo, nice Build, but, I have made the experience that you should never spray brake pads with the brake cleaner / brake booster, only the brake disc. Brake pads are becoming cracked and glaze only more. you should rather grind off the something with sandpaper

The ratio is to big, u should start with 16/17 cog. Singlespeed can coasting, Fixed gear can't.
Big ratio on fixed gear slowing cadence make descent easily.

It looks like you kept your stem the same. How did you get along with the massively reduced reach?
I did change the stem to the longest one i had
I would have gone shorter - your width is wider with the flat bars so you're pulled further forward - I would have thought shorter stem would be needed to balance reach ( I go shorter stem when I increase MTB bar width)
Yeah the bar width definitely compensates a bit of the reach, but on drop bars i’m pretty far forward. definitely feel less bent forwards on this setup.

SRAM is most of the time DOT oil and Shimano mineral oil. DOT will ruin the seal in the Shimano levers.
Love the build. But that's a ridged SS mountain bike.

I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

sram and shimano brake parts are not compatible because sram uses dot whilst shimano uses mineral oil. Also be careful with dot brake fluid as it's toxic and bioharzard.
