Recently I put my foot in my mouth when I told a friend that I was not a fan of the science fiction genre in films. I began watching episode 1 of "The Prisoner", ignorant of the fact that it was science fiction, and the series has touched me in ways that most films rarely do....especially at the emotional level. The loss of freedom frightened and angererd me to the core of my being. Patrick McGoohan's brilliant acting reflected the degree of anger and fear I feel when in a situation of dominance and control. Untll this film, I had never heard any script that more closely mirrored my thoughts and actions of rebelliousness against dictatorship. "The Prisoner" is a timeless piece of art with moral and intellectual themes that are uncannily prevelent today. Oh the acting, the filming, the music, the scripts......my favorite (science fiction) film!
Only reason The Prisoner keeps on giving is because McGoohan was way ahead of his time and most others in tv and film. My theory is being good at maths and boxing at school gave him a superiority complex which fed into his catholic upbringing , morals and so into acting. Fact he turned down Bond proved he was ahead of the game in real life not just on set, The Hard Way 1979 he gives an extraordinary brilliant performance which is at odds with his off screen views.
Your father has so much charm and handsome good looks. I loved his work.
