I got my boat on the lake and took David Hockney-inspired pictures with my Rollei 35s and Kyiv 60.

- Somebody commented, that my pictures are inspired by David Hockney. I googled him, and sure enough, many images smashed together -- so why not!!
Please, join my first boat trip this year. Meet an interesting photographer at the marina, and shoot Kiev 60 and Zodiak 8 fisheye lens on 1996 expired Kodak TMAX 100.
Water Rat said to the Mole: “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing-absolutely nothing-half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”
Amen!!
Kyiv, Rollei . . . . Hasselblad . . . . Rhodes, Moog, Mercury. So many names and gadgets still hanging around doing what they were intended to do and I have to wonder, how many of the gadgets designed and built today will still be capable and sought after in 100 years?
A very good point!! It seems 2 years are what they remain usable ....
There's something absolutely charming about the 6x6 format. Reminds me that I should use my Kiev 88 more.
Yeah, I simply love 6x6. My absolute favorite!
Ari, your videos should carry a (good) health warning your enthusiasm is contagious.
Thanks thanks. So kind of you!
Every morning when I head into my studio, I see a framed photograph of your boat. It always makes me smile.
Awesome!!!! Happy to hear 🙂
I love wood boats! Your boat has such wonderful character and looks like a lot of fun. You give me inspiration to take images of my boat, though it is of plastic construction. It's all about the lifestyle!
All boats a worth of photos!
I have a warm spot in my heart for all wooden boats, yours is very nice.
And I again greatly enjoyed your photos as well as music.
Thanks thanks. Appreciated!
I always find myself smiling at the end of your videos.
Thanks thanks. I like that!!!
I am one of those rare people who live in Minnesota, Land of 13,000 Lakes, and do not own a boat. Or a car for that matter...lol Love the lake and boat shots, never tire of seeing them!
Boats are awesome. They make you feel free!
Make me more jealous and take the marina photographer on a photo boat ride.
This is an excellent idea. How come I have not done it already!!!!!
I love my Rollei 35S. I hadn't realised you too have one. I bought a range of ND filters- 37mm with a 30.5mm to 37mm adaptor really cheap on Ali Express and have had a lot of fun copying Olga Karlovac ICM . Cheers!
It is a very capable small camera. Feels also substantial!
Awesome, Ari. I love your collages. Keep up the great work.
Thanks thanks!
It’s great to finally be back on the water … wooden boats are so delightful! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your sailing photos later this summer. 📷⛵️😄
It is!!! And more to follow!
What a satisfying ritual! The boat and the boat photos.
It is!! A lot of things spot on!
I'm thinking about the marina photographer guy. So many photos, all taken at the same place. And paying enough attention from year to year to know you had a late start this year. Seems to me there's a story there. I've also been thinking about how you think about what you want to take photos of, which camera, which film, and which developer, and I suspect tweaking the development process depending on what you know is on the film. I just developed my first roll of B&W film (Delta 100 in Ilfosol 3) following instructions and was thrilled how it came out. Now I'm looking for the next roll.
I admire this guy because he shows us that there are so many different approaches to photography!!
My process is to limit my options before the shooting situation. Plan everything in advance and then execute. I know my films, cameras and developers, and if I have, say a Holga camera (=cheap plastic), say Pancro 400 film (rather grainy and organic), and I know I will develop it in Rodinal (more grain), my eye automatically looks for suitable subjects for that palette. Like an old rusty motorbike rather than a sunset. Limiting the options in advance makes my eye work better :-)
Interesting idea with composing pictures, I like it.
Foma stopped making 24 frames film it seems, unfortunately, 36 is too much for me too. Bulk loading to the rescue!
Also 1 million pictures holy sh... Reminds me of movie Smoke with Harvey Keitel. Guy he plays takes picture on the street in front of his shop every day for years. Great movie...
yeah, that's a great movie!!!
Love the panoramic from photos idea and what a story with unique single-pier photographer.
Your video inspired me to yet again try to find my Holga and finally, I looked at somewhere I had missed. Now I have it! As a bonus I also found a Mamiya 645 normal lens from the same place. Been looking for it also quite a while. I guess I'd need to have less gear but now I have even more it seems. Thank god I waited for few months before making a huge investment on another Holga. :D
Ha haa!!! You should still buy another Holga. The more the merrier :-)
@@ShootOnFilm I must admit, I've kept my eye out on 6x12 Holga. But this one has so nice memories assiciated with it and it has a perfect construction: none of those crappy glass lenses like some have I hear, all plastic!
I enjoy Your Photo adventures !!!!!! Great photo collage project with the Rollei 35 :) :) :)
Thanks thanks!!
Great boat, great pictures. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!!!!
Good to see you 📷 - my favourite photography vlog.I like those collages - must try it. I got 5 rolls of Kodak vericolor '92 for my Yashica EM - on the 3 roll now
Thanks thanks!!!! Expired films are so much fun!
That boat is very beautiful! I love the photography you do from the boat. I found it very funny that the gentleman told you that you are late putting your boat into the water! Haha thanks for the video and hopefully we can join you on more boat rides!!
Thanks thanks. I'm sure there will be more boat videos soon :-)
Hope he got great steak dinner for those photos and getting that guy a new boat engine.
Hi Ari,
Great and very creative photos as usual there!
We started our navigational season recently also. Small sailing skiff (or dinghy if you wish) less convenient to photos by her skipper but thinking about use my Smena or similar camera again...
Regards 😁
Awesome. Sailing is by far the optimal way on water.
I usually only roll up 6-12 shots when I bulk load. That lens on the Kyiv is a BEAST!
Yeah, short films are better!
Great video. Always nice to combine film photography wit another hobby. I I do it all the time.
Thanks! Yeah, it's all a part of life :-)
Thanks Ari for the inspiration!
Thanks for watching :-)
Anotheer Great Video!!!~
I particularly enjoyed that last picture 8-)
Thanks, thanks :-)
Great Hockney work Ari! I particularly like the boat shot with the Rollei 35. The composition/perspective is amazing! You know that after using Polaroid, he moved to 110 (using a Pentax Auto 110) but I bet you could do fantastic things with your Lomomatic.
I didn't know that. I have a fresh new cartridge in my Lomo 110. I will try that next!!! Thanks for the tip!!!!!
Great compositions!
Thanks thanks!
Nice backing music- Hissing of summer lawns?
Yeah, that's what I was aiming at :-)
Happy summer! The different exposures lend depth on your collages, is that on purpose? -mike
Do you mean the ones with a bigger image in the middle? -- then yes. That's also a different film -- so they will be different from the get-go. I wanted it to be clear that this is a "bit random collection" of pictures. Not one of those that Photoshop fits together perfectly :-)
@@ShootOnFilm No, the slight variance in exposure which highlight that they are different shots. Stacked vertically as you had in a couple of examples (from memory) it was almost like slices of time.
That room collage is so awesome! Could you please tell how did you make it? I mean is there a collage software, or just manually in PS? I imagine it takes lots of effort to allign lines and shapes the way you want... so please explain a bit if you don't mind. Thanks!
Thanks, thanks! I'm a simple guy who loves free stuff. I just used www.canva.com/ and aligned them manually. :-)
Hey. is there any possible way to see these odher mans pictures that he took on this marina eweryday ???
Let me ask him next time I'm there!
Thanks dear Ari. Great video as always... what type of empty film cassettes do you use for your bulk loading?
I went to a local film lab and asked if they had any empty cassettes. And they did :-). For free.
@@ShootOnFilm I ended up doing the same, I tested plastic reusable ones they are all leaking light, the old metal ones are too hard to find and very tricky to use so best option was to get from labs.
hi there, i never tried Rodinal stand development. Whats the benefit of that versus normal 1:50 development. I still have one bottle of Rodinal( from Adox) but its from 2016, bottle is opened? should i still use it or should i buy a new bottle,
The main -- then only real benefit is that you really do not need to worry about exposure of your film while taking a picture. For me, it is ideal, e.g., when shooting Holga or Brownie, where you cannot control exposure times or apertures. Also, I sometimes develop multiple films in the same tank. Now, I can develop them all using a 1/100 stand regardless of whether they are ISO 100, 200, or 400, etc. And finally, I can shoot a roll so that I expose the first image as ISO 100, the second ISO 400, the third ISO 200 etc. -- on the same roll. And they all come out fine when developed in stand. Stand development can easily tolerate 3-4 stops over and underexposure.
Of course, you can also do magic with stand: ua-cam.com/video/jlfFLQCOAcc/v-deo.htmlsi=qR8AI37COujx-gOH
Hyvää matskua 👍🏻
Kiitos, kiitos!
The guy at the marina, with the million images, was he shooting film?
No :-) All digital!
