I love this so much. Seeing a dark sky with bright green trees in front, in a calm neighborhood, reminds me so much of my childhood. Playing outside with my friends until it started to rain, then running inside cuz our parents were yelling at us to get inside before we got struck by lightning. The weather patterns have changed so much where I live since that time, we’d get these kind of storms maybe once every couple weeks, with lots of little storms nearly every day, but now we’re lucky if we get any kind of thunderstorm.

Where do you live now? In New Jersey, where I live, when it comes to storms, all too often they are scattered, which means some will get missed, and those that do get them, they are in and out in like 2 to 5 minutes.

I can relate to thst. If I had the means, I would move someplace like Minneanapolis, or Chicsgo, where storms are a little less hit and miss, and more spectacular. All too often, if big storms out that way head towards me, when they cross the mountains in Pennsylvania, that causes them to fizzle out before they reach New Jersey.

@@johnoconnor6356 I can tell you a lot of people are complaining about the lack of thunderstorms... When I was a little kid, even just 15-20 years ago, the weather was very different. We used to get thunderstorms all the time. They are a wonderful way to relax and get cozy. I lived 45 minutes northwest of Chicago, still do, and we barely get them anymore. Look up geoengineering. Yes, i have seen some really dark clouds in thunderstorms. I moved from Coronado CA to live with my father in Lubbock TX in the mid 70s. He was a meteorologist with the small forecasting office (nka NWS/NOAA) there. He would sometimes call me when he was working to tell me to get my blanket, pillow, one of my twin mattresses and get in the bathtub until he called to give me the all clear. Few times he forgot to call me. LOL Several years later he transferred to San Antonio (his hometown) and retired there as a lead forecaster & etc after 41+ years. He helped develop a bunch of things, was a meteorologist for the space shuttle flight that had Sally Ride as the 1st woman astronaut (I attended the luncheon with everyone involved with the mission & got to meet all the astronauts) I am so proud of him. Funny thing though, I was the one in high school in San Antonio that would not ask what the weather was going to be. So, my friends made fun of me when it would rain & i didn't have an umbrella or short sleeve tops when it was cold or long sleeve sweatshirt when it was warm. I didn't watch the weather or news channels. That was back when the TV weatherman got their "forecast" from the NWS, so I assumed that my father would tell me what was going to happen if he had been at work. But with the different shifts he worked, my high school years and my part time job, sometimes I wouldn't even see him for days. My mother still can't believe he was getting paid alot of money for being 20% right. 🤣

One of the worst thunderstorms I’ve ever seen in my area of the U.K (Bournemouth) was in May 2021. We were finishing up the last lesson of that day which was History and then suddenly I heard thunder. At first I thought I was tripping but half an hour later the biggest boom of thunder I have ever heard sounded at 15:43. When we were going home in the minibus (Stupidly driving along the coast road), we actually had to shout to be able to hear each other the hail was so loud. We also saw a Mini that had to be pulled over because the driver couldn’t see. It was one of the most exciting storms I’ve ever experienced:)

Last major storm I saw was the August 10, 2020 derecho. I was in the area that got 120-140 mph wind gusts. Greenest skies I’ve ever seen. Everything turned a very deep turquoise the moment it rolled over. Can’t say I expected to see debarked trees in Iowa, of all places.

I am from Miami, FL and I am used to seeing this type of storms on a daily basis and I LOVE THEM. Moved to Ohio a little over a year ago and I promise you I have not YET seen a storm like the ones we are doing in Miami. Have only seen baby storm and it rains like baby drops. Nothing Severe or anything, have not witness a real downpour or torrential rain here AT ALL and it’s pretty sad because I LOVE LOVE LOVE this severe weather. I guess the snow makes it up for that but still… I have only experienced 3 “big” thunderstorms here (bowling green and Toledo combined) in the last year and those storm only really brought wind and lightning/thunder… barely any rain but seen this video… I get jealous but I love it!!

When I was a kid I survived an F5 tornado in a shopping center. A lot of people were killed, and for many years a sight like this would turn me to liquid. I can thank Doppler radar for changing things. Tornado warnings are much more precise these days, and I can’t remember the last time a tornado or severe thunderstorm took my town by surprise. So these days when I see this, as I do several times each spring, I usually know what the weather is and I can enjoy it. It’s beautiful, but in a very weird way.

This was a cool storm to catch right before hitting us! A severe thunderstorm indeed. Though one thing I will say. It does not even compare to the storm that hit us in August 2007. That was a huge wall cloud that was almost black! Even though I was six, it scared the crap outta me and I remember it vividly. I still have a recording of the tornado warning that was issued due to that storm.

Maine is the 8th most humid state (our summers are not as temperate as people might assume) but, due to our location in the most northeastern part of the US, thunderstorms are pretty infrequent here. Which, as someone who _loves_ thunderstorms, is a huge big bummer. I find the deep, resonant booms that thunder produces to be both exciting and soothing and I try to maximize the experience I get of these storms as much as possible. Which, to people in states where they are incredibly frequent, would probably seem like really strange behavior lol
