    Hate painting my work. I can never get it to look like yours.
    Great video. I like that you don't spend 10 minutes showing us CAD models in Fusion. It's the kind of stuff we all have to do in our shops: building expedient solutions. I get frustrated with channels that show how to fix a problem like this by engineering a new thing in Solidworks and then use a $100,000 5 axis CNC machine to make it from 4140 billet.
    Yours turned out great.

    I have been told by those that have Lathes, when looking for a Lathe, make sure it comes with at least, a extra 4 Jaw Chuck, Steady Rest, and a Follow Rest.
    Yet, to this day, I have NEVER seen anyone use a Follow Rest. Looking forward to seeing this bad boy do it's stuff.

    You're a brave man for using a driver for tapping. I guess those titanium nitride coated taps are not as brittle as the conventional ones.

      I’ve heard that impact driving works very well but I haven’t been brave enough yet to try it. In my experience I’ve found that hand tapping breaks and chips more taps than power tapping.

    question: i also have to make a lead screw for my lathe. my follow rest has (pretty worn) brass tips so i was thinking about swapping them for bearings, but now i see you did the opposite in this case, yours had bearings and you made new ones with brass tips, is there a reason? you said you were gonna use the ones you had, im guessing the brass tips have a better chance of not damaging the lead screw threads?

    • @VanoverMachineAndRepair
      @VanoverMachineAndRepair  4 місяці тому +1

      I used ones from a steady rest which is why they had bearings. To my knowledge all follow rests use brass because you are kindof sliding sideways on a part so the load is not just radial. I would think bearings would just scoot across especially on threads.
