  • One last trip to the mountains before a storm blows in heavy snow an blocks the area for the season. Warm cozy hot tent with good food, relaxing and enjoying the snowfall. Then it hits early, hard wind, sleet and the danger of falling trees.

    My Jeep did not like the comment I made suggesting it was unreliable in this video..... and is now spewing oil all over the driveway to prove how reliable it is. Luckily I had my Toyota to run and get parts.

    Awesome little adventure. You’re right about the prep when it comes to hot tenting. The last time I did any "hot tenting" was when I was in the army…😉🤣 I was thinking how my little 66 beetle would fare doing some camping in snowy conditions. Giving thanks is always a good thing. ✌️✝️

      My Grandfather used to build VW buggies for off roading before my time, he had some home movies of the adventures they would go on in them, amazingly capable little rigs!

    Hey Scablands! Just found your channel and I gotta say, Wow! You do amazing camerawork, the quality is insane! The audio is also awesome, I personally enjoy these no music videos, where it's just you and the sound of nature. You make quality and valid content. You actually stay out there unlike others who just go home and wait the cold night out. Also gotta mention your cooking skills! Amazing job with the food, that looked delicious and nutrisious. You actually show great techniques , and your personality is also awesome. You are calm , funny. Your voice is also very relaxing but hey, I will leave that line for the ladies😂. Your videos actually make me sleep faster, they are so calming. Oh and also, be careful with the carrots, you know, family is family. 😂 Keep up the amazing work and hoping to see at least a Million followers on your account. You definitely have the skills to reach that. Keep pushing amazing content , will definitely be returning to your videos. Have an awesome day man!
    P.s.: I love your jeep, it's cute:D

    One should always check 1's camp. Say the trees around it looking for anything that might break easily a dead branches. I would didn't would last year walking and all of a sudden. A huge branch gave way across the path. You could probably hear the sound of the branch breaking and the crash of itt hitting the ground for a mil4. That's why they call large dead branches, "man killers!"

    I’m stuck in snowy Chicago right now I am not a camper just stuck being cold bc I’m homeless through no fault of my own and I’m really scared bc it’s going to be going down to negative degrees in a few days and I just don’t know how to be ready for it so if anyone has advice please tell me

      That is a whole different survival. My advice would be reach out to all family and friends extended relatives, reach out to your local Church. Next I would seek out help from local community, for instance we have special programs here for women and children fleeing violence such as Hope House, UGM charities and Catholic Charity House and other programs for substance abuse cases, searching Chicago I see quite a few of them there as well. Next I would go to state level help, persistence normally will be needed to get through the bureaucracy. There are programs for Veterans, call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at (877) 4AID-VET (877-424-3838) for assistance. · You can also call or visit your local VA Medical Center or Community Resource Office.

    never seen a stove inside a tent before; doesn't the hot pipe against the tent material cause a fire hazard?

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  4 місяці тому

      Yes it can, the pipe gets very hot. Most "hot tents" have a special section sewn in that is fire resistant high temperature material called a "stove jack". These can be purchased or made to retro fit non hot tents as well.

      Well I suppose its like I said at the end, some trips are super awesome... some trips just don't go as planned. Personally I like to take short 1-2 day trips to test new gear before longer trips to see how equipment will work out. This trip was basically a test of this new stove and tent. The tent did ok.. but I will change a few things. The stove needs probably one more section of pipe to help with the backdraft, and I will add a stabilizing ring to help in windy weather. With a few changes a longer stay should work out quite well with this setup... but I am glad I took this test run to work out the system. Once you get a setup that works it is pretty rewarding on longer trips, but it may take a day or two to get in the "zone".

      Oh? how is that? I left a few hours ahead of planned but what else is there to do, setting around in a flapping tent in the dark lol. After spending most my life working and recreating outdoors It's not a big loss losing a few hours on a one day trip.
