The final owner of this house was an elderly widow, who passed away with no remaining family so the land ended up at public auction and was sold. Sadly everything in this video has been demolished and either donated or thrown away and now there is a few courts where the house use to be, lined with newer houses. Allowing all of this history to be forgotten and built over. This house was my all time favorite explore, especially now that the land has all been bulldozed over it makes this house even more sad since it’s been torn down. Which really breaks my heart although the house was in very bad shape, it was still stunning! Especially too find a picture of the house from the 1940s and too see it when it was still loved and cared for (Shown around 10 mins in). One thing you may notice about this house is the fact that I don’t show a bathroom which is because the house didn’t have one inside of it, right beside the house completely overgrown by bushes/ trees was a small falling apart out house. Which gives some insight on its last owners as well. This home was built in the early 1820s sat right by a stream a few miles from Martinsburg, West Virginia. Thanks for watching! I love the two wooden bed frames and dressers . I loved the old vanity and the wooden Cedar Chest . I seen a couple of smaller ones too I would loved to have . I'm sure there were more relics too . It was a mess , but I bet if someone could have went in the house and cleaned it all out and done some remodeling and repairs , it would have been beautiful again . Wow, that is "heartbreaking" to know the fate of this home and all of those possessions they held onto for all of those years. Really makes one stop and think. While watching I was thinking "an Antique Dealers dream" come true! I've come to learn holding onto possessions is not worth my time and/space because no one in the family seems interested in owning it later on in life to be handed down. Such a waste in this Country!
The hay bales in that barn still looked rather fresh but I couldn’t be sure without being there and breaking one open. It’s the circle of life. America has moved into an era of mass poverty, homelessness and extreme greed. In about 40 years half this country will look like it’s third world.
@@hockeymom49721 There you are probably right. It was made with more care and more natural more pleasant materials. Although not necessarily devoid of all sorts of toxicity. Nevertheless that did not make it more convenient and comfortable over all or most suitable for modern life. For example insulation in older houses was terrible and furniture often fit less inside it, was often more decorative. Also, not all older materials were better, some are better, more fool proof today.

That house had to be beautiful back in the day. My heart breaks for the sweet little old lady who died without any family. The two pictures on the mantel had to have meant something to her. A granddaughter or grandniece? I just can’t stand the thought of my grandmother’s items left like that.... so sad...
You really can't say she was a sweet old lady for sure if you didn't know her.She may have been rotten to the core.I hope not but sadly not every ones nice in this world.
I find it incredibly sad that the last person to have lived there had no one to leave things to, or that no one was interested enough to empty the house.
You know how much work it is to clean out a house? People cringe at the thought even when they themselves have to move. Anyone who's had to empty the house of their elderly parents knows what an immense, indescribable undertaking this can be. I'm sort of glad in a sense that this one was nobody's problem. The person who passed away there really doesn't care about all this now, believe me. If anything they're glad that nobody was burdened on their behalf. Hopefully they were a good person and their soul is ins a far better place.
comment My father sold his house recently-the house my grandparents left him-because they raised the taxes by ten times what they were a few years ago and would have been 25% of his yearly income-and had to abandon the majority of his stuff to new owners because he didn’t have the time or energy to pack it. Years of my family’s history gone. I had no way to get over there and help him with any of it. The new owners will probably just trash it all, but I wish I could have saved a lot of it. Especially things like my grandmother’s old croquet set we used to play with, her sauerkraut crock, the bowl she used to make popcorn in. *sigh* :(
I can see why it was your favorite. Lots of pretty antiques worth a lot of money. The living room furniture looked to be 1940's. Bedroom furniture older. One set was from the late 20's and 30's. One head borad had railroad tracking on it. Great video.
the sad part of life,we spend our life to work for making nice home and to buy nice thing and in the end we leave with nothing of nothing .. than is better to spend our money to travel and life with the minimum ,not need bunch of cars or bunch of furniture that cost a lot of money ..! Enjoyed this video immensely... it really is sad but ultimately it's the circle of life. What's especially heartbreaking is this poor woman had no family to pass all of the history on down to. You would hope that, that wonderful photo of the farm when it was still "alive" would be framed and hung on someone's wall... That's where it should have gone... It's the photos and anything handmade, awards, certificates personal things like that, that can be held onto and cherished by future generations just to prove or show that a person actually existed. I hope when the property was sold that they removed the beautiful antique wood furniture prior to it being demolished... not everyone appreciates the significance and value of those types of pieces.
All the old wood furniture, doors, and so many of those things I would love to have and redo. WOW!! What a shame that someone couldn't have bought it and brought it back to life.

The home I just moved to was built in 1922, and we are going to fix it up a bit. It sat for 4 years until it was sold to us. Kind of sad to think of the house in the video setting all that time, keeping silent vigil over an owner that was never coming back. We have become such a throw it away society, I would bet the new homes they built are NOT going to be standing in 198 years, or even 96.
What an incredible find! The house seems so full of atmosphere. I bet it was really exciting to explore. Such a shame the house was bulldozed. So sad seeing the photos. 😢 And all that beautiful wooden furniture & doors just left rotting away...
Even West Virginia is getting paved over. More than a century of history in that house and farm, not just about a family and its eventual extinction, but about a distinct period of our country’s rural culture that no longer exists. It’s good, really good, that you documented the place before it was completely lost and that you focused time on that terrific aerial photo. Thank you for doing what you do-it’s important. Its a shame local historians/ authorities didnt take a look at the house and retrieve any photos or historical items, or even try and save the house. Would have made a great local museum.
Yes I agree and should have tried a little harder to find distant family member to pass the history and family records and photos on to. Genealogy might have helped?

So? Everyone wants to assign some kind of pathology (complete with a DSM code) to average life activities. It IS true that to rear down a house like that which is certainly restorable for a developer to build a cluster of houses is a crime

That's sad that they had no one. All the memories die with them. Even though I have 5 kids, looking at all of that, makes me want to downsize. Reminds me of my place, except mine is in storage totes, in the attic or closets. Great footage, great explore. Thanks

I know. My mom passed away 5 months ago but wanted the house sold. I pray the new owners have many more wonderful years there. My sister's and I grew up there. Thankfully the house was in good shape and not abandoned .

No it’s a reminder to have a will so when you do die your estate does not go to the government. Even if you leave your place to a good friend, distant cousin , someone in your spouses family or to a conservatory . Especially if your home has been passed down or in the family for many generations. Whoever started this estate must be looking down from above in utter dismay not resting in peace .
@@angelajohnson9542 That would be literally impossible especially from this time period people had large families , so a niece , nephew , aunt , uncle or cousin still living the home could of been willed to . Ok there could be one exception possibly if the person was jewish and a survivor of the Holocaust, however even then a distant relative could of survived. What about family of good friends ? Again as I stated I am sure someone could of been willed this home .

I had a sister and have a cousin who where not able to have children , however in both cases both my cousin and sister have siblings , nieces ,nephews as well as Aunts ,uncles and relatives related by blood . When my mother died at 92 she had 4 great great grandchildren and had she had property like a home she could of willed it to anyone . In my sisters will she left some of her belongings to her best friend. I also knew an elderly woman who willed her car to a grandchild and the step mother of someone I knew also willed her car to someone not related to her by blood .Not to insult you , however do you know about ancestry ? Or about will’s ?
I find this incredibly sad. There were obviously so many people living there at one stage, because of all the beds. Weren't there any left to come clean up after she died? I think the saddest part was the bed with just the one side slept in, with the pillows up. I hope she had a joyful life.

OMG! At 9:07 and 10:08, I would have LOVED to have that furniture! I hope they got it out before the house got torn down! 😢. What a flipping waste of history! Wondering what happened to the owner. Everything inside the house looks like they have been there for a very long time and might be left by accidentally. If the owner moved to another place, then why clothes and many other stuffs still be there. These abandoned property videos cause me goosebumps as well as curiosity. Very interesting! That couch is from the 60s. The dressers is from the 40s. Looks like they left in the 50s 0r 60s. It's all old stuff from then. Just seeing the old wooden stove tells how long ago.lts heart breaking seeing all the old stuff n no one claiming family stuff.
It’s surprising that no one had relieve the house of that beautiful farm sink. I like the kitchen cabinets too- very old-school. Looks like there might of been a Hoosier cabinet in there as well but couldn’t get a good look. It’s so sad to know that all of that beautiful brickwork was just bulldozed. I felt the saddest for the teddy bear in the back of the car. All excited to go for a ride and then nothing. Kappy, thank you for taking us with you and the update even though it’s sad. Wow that must have been a great exploration. What a sad ending though. They must have been rich farmers one time and one by one every one vanished and everything disappeared. At the end only the land is left..LIFE...awesome video.
It is sad that there wasn't anyone to take over this farm when the lady died. The dresses reminded me of my grandmother saying how much she loved her "purdy dresses." and the rest of the land reminded me of my grandpa talking about his "ranch" and garden he loved to plant every year. Shame it is all gone now. But you saved it in pictures. Thank-you for sharing this special place.
I believe that these people weren’t necessarily hoarders, but probably lived through the Great Depression, and couldn’t throw things away. Plus their kinfolk could have rummaged through their things took what they wanted and made a mess of the things left.. also i just wanted to tell you thank you for Not cursing in your videos.

The backstory is sad. Coming in the house, there is so much. The homemade afghans on the chairs and sofa. The bed with the rolled blanket down the center to keep kids spending the night from fighting about their own side of the bed. And so funny is that it worked! The kitchen. The full drawers. The children’s games. The photos, the coupe de gras of the farm in the 1940s. The good part...the old lady got to stay with her life and memories before fading away. It’s the most we can hope for. ✨❤️✨. A most cherishable find, Kappy.
Love watching these, I’m English, here houses don’t really get the chance to end up like this, any slight bit of grass going spare the councils tend to build flats 😡😡, one question though how do they end up so messy inside? Is it vandalism?
Claire lt's not vandalism per say. It might be the lady of the house might have given up at the end of her life, and just stopped cleaning. Or after she died, some people when through the house to see if there was money stashed around somewhere. Maybe someone was living there to hide from someone or something. I just loved the furniture, it was very nice nice stuff. I wonder what she lived on or if she had a caretaker. But if you have been watching other abandoned houses many end up the same way. At least someone didn't write all over the walls, the house must have been hard to find. In the city most of the stuff would be gone.
You can tell this house was ransacked., picked through hunting for valuables. She probably was a quilter from all the fabric swatches lying around. I'm sure she was worried about leaving the farm and everything behind. Poor woman. Thanks for posting.

Awesome... and very sad. You can tell it was a thriving farm very busy and full of life... and they got old and died off and I guess the children didn't want to keep it going if there were children. And I imagine there were in a house that size. I would never have abandoned that place if it were in my family. Beautiful. Great video
Dinners ready, come and get it !!!! I wonder how many times that sound traveled throughout this house , how many joyous Christmas and birthday parties were held , now all gone, no one to celebrate anything anymore...so sad, life's so short.
The crocheted afghans were lovely. So sad no one took them to wash and give to Salvation Army. Someone was strong to get all that furniture to the top floor!

You should try and find out who owns that old farm and farm house it's full of beautiful antiques. Those bedrooms and the attac are full of old beautiful bedroom furniture and old chairs in the attic.
I would have loved those two old dressers with the adjustable mirrors and the weather vane on the barn!!! That room with the snuggy had a few brand new in box blankets like that... electrical etc. I bet someone was giving her them as gifts.

The last lady to live in that house each morning would have heard the bird song and must have been happy in her old wee world, sadly the house is now gone, but in a strange way the history lives on now here on utube, i wonder way back in the 1820s did folk wonder what the world now would be like? I still love to take photos as that moment in time can never be lost, time is all we truely have, and for all of us it runs out some day, if you have a lonely neighbour it would surprise you how a few words can make that persons day, thank you for the vid, wonderful to see, and great you made the vid before the house and history gone forever.
Wonderful description and video work. Lovely farm and so sad it has now disappeared forever. These videos just confirm to me how transitory our lives are. Here, one second, living a prosperous, decent life, and the next minute gone, with all traces of one's life, loves and existence obliterated for all time.

I can see why it was your favorite. Lots of pretty antiques worth a lot of money. The living room furniture looked to be 1940's. Bedroom furniture older. One set was from the late 20's and 30's. One head borad had railroad tracking on it. Great video.

Enjoyed this video immensely... it really is sad but ultimately it's the circle of life. What's especially heartbreaking is this poor woman had no family to pass all of the history on down to. You would hope that, that wonderful photo of the farm when it was still "alive" would be framed and hung on someone's wall... That's where it should have gone... It's the photos and anything handmade, awards, certificates personal things like that, that can be held onto and cherished by future generations just to prove or show that a person actually existed. I hope when the property was sold that they removed the beautiful antique wood furniture prior to it being demolished... not everyone appreciates the significance and value of those types of pieces.

The home I just moved to was built in 1922, and we are going to fix it up a bit. It sat for 4 years until it was sold to us.
Kind of sad to think of the house in the video setting all that time, keeping silent vigil over an owner that was never coming back.
We have become such a throw it away society, I would bet the new homes they built are NOT going to be standing in 198 years, or even 96.

Why we're so many homes abandoned?
There's a lot of history there too. I believe there was a battle during Civil War if I'm not mistaken. It's not far from DC.

Its a shame local historians/ authorities didnt take a look at the house and retrieve any photos or historical items, or even try and save the house. Would have made a great local museum.
Yes I agree and should have tried a little harder to find distant family member to pass the history and family records and photos on to. Genealogy might have helped?

I know. My mom passed away 5 months ago but wanted the house sold. I pray the new owners have many more wonderful years there. My sister's and I grew up there. Thankfully the house was in good shape and not abandoned .

No it’s a reminder to have a will so when you do die your estate does not go to the government. Even if you leave your place to a good friend, distant cousin , someone in your spouses family or to a conservatory . Especially if your home has been passed down or in the family for many generations. Whoever started this estate must be looking down from above in utter dismay not resting in peace .

Ok there could be one exception possibly if the person was jewish and a survivor of the Holocaust, however even then a distant relative could of survived. What about family of good friends ? Again as I stated I am sure someone could of been willed this home .

I had a sister and have a cousin who where not able to have children , however in both cases both my cousin and sister have siblings , nieces ,nephews as well as Aunts ,uncles and relatives related by blood . When my mother died at 92 she had 4 great great grandchildren and had she had property like a home she could of willed it to anyone . In my sisters will she left some of her belongings to her best friend. I also knew an elderly woman who willed her car to a grandchild and the step mother of someone I knew also willed her car to someone not related to her by blood .Not to insult you , however do you know about ancestry ? Or about will’s ?
I find this incredibly sad. There were obviously so many people living there at one stage, because of all the beds. Weren't there any left to come clean up after she died? I think the saddest part was the bed with just the one side slept in, with the pillows up. I hope she had a joyful life.

OMG! At 9:07 and 10:08, I would have LOVED to have that furniture! I hope they got it out before the house got torn down! 😢. What a flipping waste of history! Let's just put new buildings on top of torn down historical houses and land. 😡 The way we as a society is going, our future will not have a past to visit, but only in pictures or memories.

Wondering what happened to the owner. Everything inside the house looks like they have been there for a very long time and might be left by accidentally. If the owner moved to another place, then why clothes and many other stuffs still be there.

That couch is from the 60s. The dressers is from the 40s. Looks like they left in the 50s 0r 60s. It's all old stuff from then. Just seeing the old wooden stove tells how long ago.lts heart breaking seeing all the old stuff n no one claiming family stuff.

It’s surprising that no one had relieve the house of that beautiful farm sink. I like the kitchen cabinets too- very old-school. Looks like there might of been a Hoosier cabinet in there as well but couldn’t get a good look. It’s so sad to know that all of that beautiful brickwork was just bulldozed. I felt the saddest for the teddy bear in the back of the car. All excited to go for a ride and then nothing.

It is sad that there wasn't anyone to take over this farm when the lady died. The dresses reminded me of my grandmother saying how much she loved her "purdy dresses." and the rest of the land reminded me of my grandpa talking about his "ranch" and garden he loved to plant every year. Shame it is all gone now. But you saved it in pictures. Thank-you for sharing this special place.
I believe that these people weren’t necessarily hoarders, but probably lived through the Great Depression, and couldn’t throw things away. Plus their kinfolk could have rummaged through their things took what they wanted and made a mess of the things left.. also i just wanted to tell you thank you for Not cursing in your videos.

The backstory is sad. Coming in the house, there is so much. The homemade afghans on the chairs and sofa. The bed with the rolled blanket down the center to keep kids spending the night from fighting about their own side of the bed. And so funny is that it worked! The kitchen. The full drawers. The children’s games. The photos, the coupe de gras of the farm in the 1940s. The good part...the old lady got to stay with her life and memories before fading away. It’s the most we can hope for. ✨❤️✨. A most cherishable find, Kappy.

Claire lt's not vandalism per say. It might be the lady of the house might have given up at the end of her life, and just stopped cleaning. Or after she died, some people when through the house to see if there was money stashed around somewhere. Maybe someone was living there to hide from someone or something. I just loved the furniture, it was very nice nice stuff. I wonder what she lived on or if she had a caretaker. But if you have been watching other abandoned houses many end up the same way. At least someone didn't write all over the walls, the house must have been hard to find. In the city most of the stuff would be gone.
You can tell this house was ransacked., picked through hunting for valuables. She probably was a quilter from all the fabric swatches lying around. I'm sure she was worried about leaving the farm and everything behind. Poor woman. Thanks for posting.

Awesome... and very sad. You can tell it was a thriving farm very busy and full of life... and they got old and died off and I guess the children didn't want to keep it going if there were children. And I imagine there were in a house that size. I would never have abandoned that place if it were in my family. Beautiful. Great video

You should try and find out who owns that old farm and farm house it's full of beautiful antiques. Those bedrooms and the attac are full of old beautiful bedroom furniture and old chairs in the attic.

The last lady to live in that house each morning would have heard the bird song and must have been happy in her old wee world, sadly the house is now gone, but in a strange way the history lives on now here on utube, i wonder way back in the 1820s did folk wonder what the world now would be like? I still love to take photos as that moment in time can never be lost, time is all we truely have, and for all of us it runs out some day, if you have a lonely neighbour it would surprise you how a few words can make that persons day, thank you for the vid, wonderful to see, and great you made the vid before the house and history gone forever.
Wonderful description and video work. Lovely farm and so sad it has now disappeared forever. These videos just confirm to me how transitory our lives are. Here, one second, living a prosperous, decent life, and the next minute gone, with all traces of one's life, loves and existence obliterated for all time.
