I love to see this type of video, especially from a mature professional, showing us how to use what we already have. I appreciate new makeup reviews too, but I am also tired of the haul, haul, haul, buy, buy, buy hype we get on UA-cam. Chances are we all succumbed to the latest greatest makeup release at some point-now let’s see CREATIVE ways of using our stuff like this! Love you Risa!
I agree. I can't afford to haul in much at all. I have tried to order a shade online that looks right but it will be either light or too dark making me look orangey or ghostly. I also have picked the wrong undertone foundation. As I've aged (61) my skin is so dry so adding a dewy makeup or tinted moisturizer helps great. I have a question for you or anyone. I need the moisture but want more of a full coverage. Am I asking for a miracle? Please give me some foundations to try that are no more than $35. Drugstore would be nice though.
I am in my 60's with combo skin, huge pores, acne ice pick scars and discolored acne pits. Nothing looked good on my skin until I tried a drop of beauty oil. What a difference it made! I love this combo with the Estee Lauder Double Wear. I need a lot of coverage, without caking, and this trick works. I apply two layers of foundation, the first layer is with the oil added in, and the second layer is withut the oil, strategically placed where I need the most coverage. This combo looked flawless and I got through a 12 hour day looking phenomenal! I tried this procedure with about a dozen of my foundations and the only one it didn't work with was Catrice. Thank you for your tip, I am going to try it out.
I always mix. Sometimes I add a primer to the mix to make it last longer. I also add a drop of liquid highlight in the winter. I've put a drop of oil in winter and I've also tried moisturizer to sheer it.
Thank you, Risa! You always have the best tips and you are straight to the point. I LOVE the brevity of your videos. Very refreshing and I look forward to watching them! This tip was excellent!
Queenmarie88 I don’t have any life changing tips lol. I have the CT flawless airbrush foundation, and I love it, but it’s too much coverage for me. I mix it with the Hourglass Veil and I just love how smooth it looks on the skin. I apply with a sponge and then buff with a dense brush. Btw, I have combo/oily skin that’s prone to hormonal breakouts at 38 (yay!). Xx
Awesome video my friend! 🙌🏼💗 I love mixing foundations! I find I usually need to darken a foundation that's a bit too light and love using Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi to do that. Buying a product to lighten (or darken) is an extra investment that truly pays off b/c you use that product over and over! Customizing is fun and it really works! Great job! 🥰
If you like me have very fair skin and need coverage, I can recommend L'Oréal Infalliable matte in the lightest shade. I use it to color adjust all my foundations to lighter shades, and it adds a lot of pigment. And it is drugstore.
Great tip. I remember asking you about this a while ago. It’s always good to hear of ways that can make foundations work better. I certainly have a few I’m going to try this with x
I will try this, I am oily too and sometimes go too dark or heavy. I also ordered lightening drops to try. Love your sweater, I was worried about you mixing foundation near it !!
Covergirl healthy elixir and flower beauty light illusion is some great foundations to mix with heavier, more matte foundations. And they are drugstore and affordable. The make my thicker, full coverage, really matte foundations look beautiful! I buy those just for mixing!
I'm oily too and I mix in E. L. F. Foundation Serum into any foundation and it helps control my oil. It's very sheer and comes in 4 basic and very forgiving shades so I can lighten or darken my favorite foundation AND help with shine without breaking the bank! 😁 I don't know how or why it works but it does.
@@nataliewatkins4212 oh that's one I havent tried. I'm gonna try that one. I like the ELF flawless finish foundation for mixing in with some of my foundations. It's oil free, cheap, and really pretty finish, just don't last very long on my oily skin. So I mix it with a long wear foundation and it's so pretty! I'm telling you mixing foundations is the way to go! Ive always mixed mine! I do the same with primer and even skin care. I customize everything lol.
Thanks for the tips. I have a graveyard of foundations that are either too light, or too dark and now I can mix them to find my right shade. Love the messy bun. 😘😘😘
Great idea!! I have some foundations I'm not using because too dark, not hydrating enough, etc. And they have been sitting in my drawer. I'm going to give this a try!!
I LOVE the tips. These are so helpful. There is so many of us that really don’t know how to do a lot. I have learned so much. Thanks Risa. You look good with your hair up too !!
Thank you! I personally don’t like to put foundation on my hand for the reasons you mentioned. This solution is exactly what I needed. I’m so glad I found you!
This is an awesome tip! I've done this for YEARS! I actually dont remember the last time I used ONE foundation. I like full coverage, I dont like light coverage foundations. I have oily skin but I dont like my foundation to be too matte and i dont like my foundation to look like a mask. So i just mix til i get my perfect coverage, finish, and color. Some drugstore combos is maybelline superstay and covergirl healthy elixir. Hard candy glamaflage and flower beauty light illusion. That's just some.
This tip really does work. I mix Bare Minerals Bare Skin serum foundation ( I stocked up at Marshall’s for 7.99 a bottle) with other foundations and it really helps minimize texture. I mix it on a small Corelle white plate. Also, one mistake I had been making was not dampening my beauty blender and once I started dampening the beauty blender and made a huge difference in my foundation and the way it looked. Thanks for the info!
This is so helpful! Now I know what to do with all the foundations I’ve pushed to the back of the cabinet because the color didn’t suit me at the time. I hadn’t thought of actually mixing formulas before, and I’m going to get a tray and try it!
I love doing this. I like to mix my very matte foundations with a more dewy to give me long wearing matte/dewy look. Kind of best of both worlds lol. ❤️ ya 💋
Ok, so I followed this tip today! Will let you know how it works out. I have Too faced Peach Perfect which I love on its own. But all the shades are too yellow for me. So I added a pinky light coverage foundation. Color match is great. Hope it wears well. Need my make up to last extra long today!! Love your channel!!
Thank you Risa! I have had one of these metal palettes from amazon for about three years- and I’ve never used it! I’m so glad you made this video. I also have at least 12 (or more) random foundations that I don’t use enough and I need to mix more often and use up. I haven’t bought a new foundation in months (I found my perfect one a few months ago and haven’t looked back). But this is such a great way to use up all of my other ones so they don’t go to waste! ❤️
Thanks Risa I just started doing this and you’ve given me extra ideas. I hope you don’t mind me saying this, in the natural light I thought how stunningly beautiful you are. Great video as always.
I have been mixing foundations for years, I do use the back of my hand even though I have a mixing tray because I am lazy, lol. I just use an oil cleanser to get the foundation off the back of my hand, something like the Maelove or Tatcha cleansers. I love your channel and have used many of your tips for hooded eyes.
Hi Risa, you're right about long wear foundation sticking to skin. I can't tell you how many times I've gone out with foundation still on my hand🤣After I thought I got it off! Great tips as always😚
This is so helpful, I've done the same with lipsticks for years, but I never thought to do it with foundation. I have learned so much watching your videos, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hey Risa- would you consider doing another video for beginning makeup artists on how to build a kit with foundation shade ranges? The best way to cover everyone without buying 50 shades! Thanks so much!
Great tip to share Rosa! I can’t imagine not mixing. I love using Mac Face & Body to mix along with so many other options. The metal plate is a staple and easy to clean and sterilize. Xo Jackie
Jennifer Cody a little glass mirror works just as good from the dollar store or a saucer from a tea ☕️ set works as well, just trying to save you from having to purchase something that there’s other things out there that work just as good.....🇦🇺❤️❤️
Risa! Yes! I own so many foundations. I am always looking for the best one. It doesnt exist. Thanks for encouraging me to mix. More detail the better. Lisa Lisa d1 also did and Mrs M. Beauty. Kudos to all.
Thank God for you I'm new to makeup well doing it the right way I have 6 bottles of foundation that isn't my color I can't wait to try for sure thank you so much
Mixing foundations is something most super pale people learn early on as white mixer is my best friend. I first heard about white mixers many years ago from thatalya (now Taylor Wynn) and it changed the foundation game for me. Nowadays loads of brands have white mixers but back then manic panic was the only one around available to the general public. I find white mixers work best when the foundation and the mixer are from the same brand, as they're designed to work well together. I also used to use the old school L'Oreal lumi white bottle and have many different varients of these products now. It's a great tip though. Best wishes.

stuff You add primer to the foundation? Just a bead size? Do you also put the primer on your face first?
@@jenniferlove4791 no. I don't put it on 1st. Just add a bead size to foundation. Thanks.
Thank you Risa! A small pocket mirror also works great for mixing.
