As someone currently running a Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign i'd like to bump up that DM screen by about half a point. The maps you see there are the vast majority of the world you'll interact with while in Prismeer(the domain in which the realms Hither, Thither and Yon are set) and could definitely be useful for quickly determining distances between locations. Not mega-useful or anything but definitely worth more than a combined score of zero.
But can we also give it a negative point (not even a 0) for the cover art by virtue of one of the panels being a pretty solid spoiler plus the spider depicted is not even part of the adventure (Is taken from a page in the book advertising for an add-on purchase)? Otherwise that looks like a really solid screen (having run the adventure online once).
As long as it doesn't take away anything more generically usefull, I like maps of the world on a dm-screen ! If I need to quickly look at places and towns in relation to eachother it is way more practical than having to flick trough tge pages of your notes to find the map.
I would agree if the campaign were set in a small area which could be represented legibly on the DM Screen map, but that's not the case for any of these so far
@@heyitsMattyP i'd still argue that havibg a general overvieuw of the world at first gland is still handy in a lot of situations! But to each their own
At last. the George Hancock review I waited for :D!!!! I was happy you gave the Icewind Dale ROTFM screen a 4.5. My favorite campaign and that score is understandable. Though the Map itself would be really helpful because there is a spot in that cave that can end the campaign should the players go there
@@heyitsMattyP Well there is a certain section in that cave that allows your players to go into the Underdark and because it is too steep to climb back out (My imagination), it means the campaign abruptly ends, or, you begin a new adventure with "Out of the Abyss" which also means, you could actually start Out of the Abyss from that point. Not gonna lie, you could just remove this section of the Cave just to keep the campaign flowing, I personally never used it. I replaced the spot with a Sleeping Frost Giant XD!!! Still, I am very happy you gave ROTFM a 4.5 overall. A very solid score. I would give it 5/5 but that's me being a tad biased since that is, again, my favorite campaign and setting of Dungeons and Dragons :D
Great video! I give it bonus points for the cat cameos. Thank you for the in-depth review of so many DM screens. I have the Wilderness Kit screen and by your metrics, it would be a 3.5 (maybe 4) due to the common problem of "condition-rules spread". Like you, I found the Dungeon Kit screen to be very dark which would be unrecognizable in a dimly lit game room such as the one my group uses. Do you play other games? If so, how would you rate screens from Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, etc? That might an idea for a future video...
That any screen still stretches conditions over more than one panel is inexcusable! First thing to get tapped over with a more condensed option on my screens! I'm with you on the maps, thought would contend that Spelljammer screen had a map of the astral sea on it. . .
The spelljammer map feels much more abstract and usable than continent maps - like a map of the solar system to remind you which planets are furthest from the sun.
I personally think that rules for players like actions in combat is still somewhat useful for the DM just as a quick reference if a player has a question.
It's absolutely a useful panel for brand new groups, but past a few sessions... Given the option, I'd always prefer to have that information on a little handout. Or alternatively, print that info on the art-aide of the screen.
Great review like always, but if you could get your hands on the DM screens from Beadle and Grimms they are worth the look over. Like you said Maps aren’t particularly useful but the CoS DM screen from B&G has a Barovia map with travel times between locations, very handy if party is going at normal pace.
I reckon the only way I'll every land expensive stuff like B&G products is if they sponsor me or send me freebies. I don't have the shelf space! But I've seen the CoS box before and it does look great :)
I'm totally with you on the maps on DM screens thing, but I just realised they're actually a perfect place to put PC related stats on your DM screen such as passive perceptions, HP and ACs! Post-its over that map that you're not gonna use
Great idea for a video! Some of the camerawork made me go a bit cross-eyed though. The panning of the screens got a bit blurry, with the auto-focus messing up sometimes in the low light. The screens looked a lot crisper and more colourful when you were holding them than they did when on display.
Yeah I know, but that's the difference between the $2000 camera and the $500 camera! Far from perfect, but I had to call time on this one and get it off my plate. I'll make adjustments next time :)
The dungeon one does not hive the same information as the reincarnated. It hase some sma but usefull alternate info specific for dungeons. Just like how the wikderness one hade some information specific to nature and travelling
Hey, think your rating was too good for what the D&D gives us on DMScreens. I say this based on custom DMscreens actual gaming with homebrew or even prepare campaigns and settings. But I have to admit there is a few, really very beautiful DM Screens from them Hate completely the ones that are just cheap cardboards. For just 2 or 3 extra dollars they could had a little more sturdy and durable
The flimsy ones are so odd! I don't know why they bother including them in the boxes at all, because they're so bendy that they're functionally useless

This is crazy. Yesterday I was watching your 2 years old videos about screens and today I see an update 😊 thanks!!!
I made this especially for you
1:57 and this is good argument about map, first time I can agree with you about this

Fair enough! I haven't read that adventure yet, but it's been sitting on my shelf for six months. I've heard good things!

Haha really!? What happens?

Ooh that might be fun! I haven't seen the screens for any other games, but I'll keep an eye out and start collecting some for a future video.
Great video! Can't wait to see the next part :)
Cheers Sarah! I bet that will be a very long time away haha
A super cool video for any DM that is looking for a DM Screen to buy, or a DM just looking for inspiration if they're making their own!
Cheers Jason!

Yep! I like to keep little standies hanging off my screen with all the player info :)
Wasn't it the Tomb of Horrors 4th ed GM screen that was basically a Map? Agggghhhh I hate that!
Oooh I haven't seen that one! The only 4e screen I have is the generic one, and I haven't found any other screens from older editions :(
Thanks for showing them all :) I am kind of sad that my name is not on the patreonist even though I am a patreon :(
Apologies! I update the list about once a month. I'm update it this week!

So I feel like I’m missing something, cause I love maps. Could explain the negative on maps?
They're too small to read!
The only I do not like about most screens is that most of the info on them is for the one adventure only, you can not use that on other adventures
The dungeon one does not hive the same information as the reincarnated. It hase some sma but usefull alternate info specific for dungeons. Just like how the wikderness one hade some information specific to nature and travelling
I messed up! You're right. My notes said, "same as Reincarnated Screen, " but what it should have been is, "same SCORE as Reincarnated Screen"
@@heyitsMattyP no prob! Love the video besides that!
I like the spell jammers dm screen the showcase version has that dull purple but the normal version has vibrant kind of feel.
Different cameras! I messed up some colour correction and stabilisation in my editing for this one
@@heyitsMattyP oh mlno the spelljammer like the xana tasha amd volos have different art on them between special and normal box
