I went and listened to the big production versions of this song: THIS ONE IS BETTER! There is something about the power of her voice and stripped back piano in the back, i will take this one all day long.
07:30...heartbreaking...Grizabella makes me think of my 17-year-old female cat who I said goodbye to yesterday morning...thank you, Ms. Buckley...your artistry is unparalleled...
She is a Texan but I never heard her speak with a southern accent, even as the Virginian Martha Jefferson in "1776", but here she does and it is a knockout.
Isn’t she just brilliant? Even her speaking voice is beautiful. The first time I heard Betty Buckley was in the movie Tender Mercies (Over You,) and I was astounded by the beauty of her singing. She’s also be pretty, still at a pot seventy-years old. I wish she’d record another collection. Can you imagine Betty Buckley singing with Lady GeGa? That would be amazing. ❤️
This is a really special recording of both songs. But I am particularly moved by "Memory" here. I love how much character is brought into the concert performances of songs that were written to be set in theatrical stories. And when the line about "leaves collect at my feet" comes, I'm there. So, so beautiful.
We had Tender Mercies recorded on a betamax tape. it was a movie that I watched over and over growing up, never truly understanding what it was about. I still don't, honestly. But man, I was in love with Betty Buckley's voice right away. Her song was my favorite part. Her voice paralyzes you. It takes you away to somewhere you've never been, and when the song ends and you wake up, returning from a place that you can't even recall. Her voice is an emotional rapture.
@kn9355 RDuvall's character was a songwriter - and had been a musician / singer, And a drinker ; he quit showbiz and drinking to settle with a woman and her young son, to run a rural motel ; his ex-wife, Dixie (BettyBuckley's character ), is still 'in the game / still in the show ' ; their daughter is "coming of age" but dies ( I believe in a car crash, running with a rough character ). Mostly, the movie is about the 'Tender Mercies' one can find in Life - songs ; a chance to Sing again with a young band ; to offer a song to an ex- ; to find Love, again ; to teach a young boy to play 'Catch'... 'Tender Mercies' - in Life. ! And it can be about whatever it meant and means to you ! !!! tj
You really have to question the sanity of anyone who would give a 👎 to Betty Buckley singing "Memory" from the Broadway musical "Cats". What a phenomenally great singing voice she has!
Moment by Moment in Memory is milked; the sense of feline and the fragility of life on the brink .. exquisite and the vocal is both thrilling and subtle; genius performer gifted
Her stamina is off the charts! Imagine doing this 8 times a week for 2.5 years. See how she leapt back onto the set after singing Memories? Like she's floating on air.
I think her playing Miss Collins the gym teacher in the 1976 horror film "Carrie" was my first introduction to her. Then, when she joined the cast of "Eight Is Enough" in season 2, that is when I fell in love with her. Whether acting of crooning, Betty Buckley is amazing.
Wow, what a beautiful singer, actress and person. I've always wondered why she didn't become a bigger star, like Glenn Close or Meryl Streep. She is just as talented, if not more. She is a better singer than Glenn Close. For me, she will always be Miss Collins from Carrie, my favorite movie.
Imagine if they'd marketed her performance properly in "Tender Mercies," and made "Over You" a single - she could have been on the Country / Western charts for a looooong time for her performance of that. Her talent is so widespread!
This woman is so talented but her phrasing on Over You was terrible. I understand wanting to experiment and change things io but she ruined that for me. Horrid.
Her performance on Merv Griffin is superb. Here let's not pretend that after having sung "happiness" fine earlier in the song, Betty sings "hoppyness" with affect toward the end to spoil the rendition.
After hearing Lane Brody singing 'Over You', that can be the ONLY favourite. Give yourself a treat and click to hear Lane's version; ua-cam.com/video/qSg3t2-ZbQs/v-deo.html
The very pretty and extremely actress, singer, and performer Betty Buckley performs both her signature songs brilliantly! I was born in 1978! the beautiful and classic songs Memory and Over You truly belong only to Betty Buckley! Betty Buckley is the best and one and only Grizabella ever!
She has the most amazing voice...."Over You" gives me chills every time I listen.
This Texas girl knows how to tear down a song. Man, is she fine as good wine.
Back when the Tonight Show had class.

Southsideman They know how to sell it here. You're right!!!

Sorry for your lost. I know how dear of a friend cats are.
that one sustained breath from 2:12-2:23 knocks me down every time ! she does it again at 3:03-3:15, miss betty lynn has lungs of steel.
also 5:29, my god what a performance this is.
She is a Texan but I never heard her speak with a southern accent, even as the Virginian Martha Jefferson in "1776", but here she does and it is a knockout.
Rob Sieger I just new her from this movie and this song really hit me.
GOOD GRIEF THAT WAS AWESOME!
I DONT KNOW WHO SHE IS: BUT SHE IS A PRO OF PROS!
She was wonderful in Tender Mercies.
Isn’t she just brilliant? Even her speaking voice is beautiful.

Betty had the voice for a mature Grizabella. Elaine Page had a marvelous voice, but I thought it was too high-pitched for the role.

you can take betty out of the story but you can't take the storyteller out of betty, she lives it.
Oh God! How I miss the theater!!!!!

It is such a simple yet moving movie.
Very well put.
His relationship with his daughter was heartbreaking..

Betty is so strong!
Sweet Jesus that was wonderful.
You really have to question the sanity of anyone who would give a 👎 to Betty Buckley singing "Memory" from the Broadway musical "Cats". What a phenomenally great singing voice she has!
She has said that her "assignment" in Cats was to stop the show. Here, she stopped the show. Incredible.🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Boy she's great and I'm in the music business and she said it's something she had to do. She does it,
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - Sinatra, Ella, and Buckley - three of the most masterful interpreters of song that have ever graced us!
Flew back next to Betty Buckley on a Pan Am flight from Paris around this time. Lovely person and a voice like no other.
LoveLove Betty.
I never thought " Abby from " 8 is Enough "
Is one of best
Performers to hit Stage ..screen..tv
Betty's 1983 version leaves this for dead.poor sound results in a thinner voice quality ,so disappointing.
Few have the talent of Betty Buckley. I'm thankful she was able to develop her talent and share it with me; with all of us:-)
She's amazing. Seen her on Broadway several times & in concert.
Moment by Moment in Memory is milked; the sense of feline and the fragility of life on the brink .. exquisite and the vocal is both thrilling and subtle; genius performer gifted
WOW
Knocked it out of the park!
I want to hear her sing the phone book
I love this talented lady and her giftes.
Her stamina is off the charts! Imagine doing this 8 times a week for 2.5 years. See how she leapt back onto the set after singing Memories? Like she's floating on air.
I Loved her as Abby on "Eight Is Enough"!!!
That’s what I remember her from. I had no clue, until recently, that she could sing like this.
my memory is of her, as the matriarch on "Eight Is Enough" tv show
I think her playing Miss Collins the gym teacher in the 1976 horror film "Carrie" was my first introduction to her. Then, when she joined the cast of "Eight Is Enough" in season 2, that is when I fell in love with her.

BB just REIGNS👑
This was the the best song in the movie.
👍👍👍👍👍.
For once in my life….I am speechless
good ole days, youth & memoriess ..ahhh

Fantastic stuff
Fantastic
As they say this was a musical experience
"Memories" ALW's greatest musical anthem of all time, performed by the greatest Cat of all time!
My goodness.
This woman is so talented but her phrasing on Over You was terrible. I understand wanting to experiment and change things io but she ruined that for me. Horrid.
Yeah. The piano didn't belong either. I loved the version she sang in the movie.
❤❤❤

Lane Brody nailed this song.
A way better performance than this one. Buckley’s performance in the movie was good but this was self indulgent and shrill.
